1Und im dritten Jahre von Hoschea, dem Sohne Elahs, König von Israel, geschah es, daß Chiskijah, Sohn des Achas, König von Judah, König ward.
2Er war fünfundzwanzig Jahre alt, da er König wurde, und regierte neunundzwanzig Jahre in Jerusalem; und der Name seiner Mutter war Abi, eine Tochter Sacharjahs.
3Und er tat, was recht war in den Augen Jehovahs, nach allem, was David, sein Vater, getan hatte.
4Er tat die Opferhöhen weg und zerbrach die Bildsäulen und hieb die Aschere um, und zerstieß die eherne Schlange, die Mose gemacht; denn bis zu jenen Tagen räucherten ihr die Söhne Israels und nannten sie Nechuschthan.
5Er vertraute auf Jehovah, den Gott Israels; und nach ihm war keiner wie er unter allen Königen Judahs und denen, die vor ihm waren.
6Und er hing Jehovah an, wich nicht ab von Ihm, und hielt Seine Gebote, die Jehovah dem Mose geboten hatte.
7Und Jehovah war mit ihm; in allem, wozu er auszog, war er klug; und er empörte sich wider den König von Aschur und diente ihm nicht.
8Er schlug die Philister bis Gazah und dessen Grenzen vom Turm der Wächter bis zur festen Stadt.
9Und es geschah im vierten Jahre des Königs Chiskijahu, das ist im siebenten Jahre von Hoschea, dem Sohne Elahs, dem König von Israel, zog Schalmaneser, König von Aschur herauf wider Samaria, und belagerte es.
10Und sie eroberten es am Ende von drei Jahren, im sechsten Jahre des Chiskijahu, das war das neunte Jahr des Hoschea, König von Israel; da ward Samaria erobert.
11Und der König von Aschur führte Israel weg nach Aschur, und ließ sie sich niederlassen in Chalach und in Chabor an dem Flusse Gosan und in den Städten Mediens.
12Darum, daß sie nicht hörten auf die Stimme Jehovahs, ihres Gottes, und Seinen Bund überschritten, alles, was Mose, der Knecht Jehovahs, geboten hatte, und sie hörten es nicht und taten es nicht.
13Und im vierzehnten Jahre des Königs Chiskijahu zog Sancherib, König von Aschur, herauf wider alle festen Städte Judahs, und nahm sie ein.
14Und Chiskijah, König von Judah, sandte an den König von Aschur gen Lachisch, und ließ ihm sagen: Ich habe gesündigt, kehre zurück von mir, ich will tragen, was du mir aufgibst. Und der König von Aschur legte Chiskijah, dem König von Judah, dreihundert Talente Silbers und dreißig Talente Goldes auf.
15Und Chiskijah gab alles Silber, das sich im Hause Jehovahs und in den Schätzen des Hauses des Königs fand.
16Zur selben Zeit schnitt Chiskijah die Türen des Tempels Jehovahs und die Pfosten, die Chiskijah, der König Judahs, selbst hatte überziehen lassen, ab, und gab sie dem König von Aschur.
17Aber der König von Aschur sandte Tharthan und Rab-Saris und Rabschakeh von Lachisch wider den König Chiskijahu mit schwerer Streitmacht gen Jerusalem, und sie zogen herauf und kamen gen Jerusalem. Und sie kamen herauf und kamen und standen an dem Wassergraben des oberen Teiches, der auf der Landstraße des Feldes des Walkers ist.
18Und riefen dem König; und es kam zu ihnen heraus Eljakim, der Sohn Chilkijahus, der über das Haus war, und Schebnah, der Schreiber, und Joach, der Sohn Asaphs, der Kanzler.
19Und es sprach zu ihnen Rabschakeh: Sagt doch dem Chiskijahu: So spricht der große König, der König von Aschur: Was für ein Vertrauen ist das, das du vertraust?
20Du hast gesprochen: Nur ein Wort der Lippen ist es, Rat und Macht zum Streite ist da! Nun auf wen vertraust du, daß du dich wider mich empörst?
21Nun siehe, du verläßt dich auf die Stütze dieses zerquetschten Rohres, auf Ägypten; so ein Mann sich darauf stützt, so kommt es in seine flache Hand und durchsticht sie; so ist Pharao, König von Ägypten, allen, die auf ihn vertrauen.
22Und so ihr zu mir sagt: Auf Jehovah, unseren Gott, vertrauen wir; ist Er es nicht, Dessen Opferhöhen und Altäre Chiskijahu weggetan, und zu Judah und Jerusalem gesprochen hat: Vor dem Altar da sollt ihr anbeten in Jerusalem.
23Und nun, verbürge dich doch meinem Herrn, dem König von Aschur, und ich will dir zweitausend Pferde geben. Vermagst du für dich zu geben, die auf ihnen reiten?
24Und wie willst du zurückwenden das Angesicht eines Statthalters, eines der geringsten Knechte meines Herrn, und du verläßt dich auf Ägypten, auf Streitwagen und Reiter?
25Nun, bin ich ohne Jehovah wider diesen Ort heraufgezogen, um ihn zu verderben? Jehovah hat zu mir gesprochen: Zieh wider dieses Land hinauf und verdirb es.
26Und es sprach Eljakim, der Sohn Chilkijahus, und Schebnah und Joach zu Rabschakeh: Rede doch zu deinen Knechten auf aramäisch, denn wir verstehen es und rede nicht mit uns auf jüdisch vor den Ohren des Volkes, das auf der Stadtmauer ist.
27Rabschakeh aber sprach zu ihnen: Hat mein Herr zu deinem Herrn und zu dir mich gesandt, diese Worte zu reden? nicht zu den Männern, die auf der Stadtmauer sitzen, um ihren Kot zu essen und ihren Harn mit euch zu trinken?
28Und Rabschakeh stand und rief mit großer Stimme auf jüdisch und redete und sprach: Höret das Wort des großen Königs, des Königs von Aschur:
29So spricht der König: Lasset den Chiskijahu euch nicht verführen; denn er vermag euch nicht aus meiner Hand zu erretten.
30Und laßt euch nicht von Chiskijahu auf Jehovah vertrösten, indem er spricht: Jehovah wird uns gewiß erretten, daß diese Stadt nicht in die Hand des Königs von Aschur gegeben werde.
31Hört nicht auf Chiskijahu, denn so spricht der König von Aschur: Macht euch einen Segen bei mir und kommt heraus zu mir, und esset jeder Mann von seinem Weinstock und jeder Mann von seinem Feigenbaum, und jeder Mann trinke das Wasser seiner Grube,
32Bis daß ich komme und euch nehme in ein Land, wie euer Land, ein Land des Korns und des Mostes, ein Land des Brotes und der Weinberge, ein Land der Ölbäume mit Öl und des Honigs, auf daß ihr lebt und nicht sterbet; aber hört nicht auf Chiskijahu, wenn er euch antreibt und spricht: Jehovah wird uns erretten.
33Hat von den Göttern der Völkerschaften ein Mann sein Land aus der Hand des Königs von Aschur errettet?
34Wo waren die Götter von Chamath und Arpad, wo die Götter von Sepharvaim, Hena und Ivah, haben sie Samarien aus meiner Hand errettet?
35Welche unter allen Göttern der Länder haben ihr Land von meiner Hand errettet, daß Jehovah Jerusalem aus meiner Hand erretten sollte?
36Und das Volk schwieg stille und sie antworteten ihm kein Wort. Denn des Königs Gebot sagte: Ihr sollt ihm nicht antworten.
37Und Eljakim, der Sohn Chilkijahs, der über das Haus war, und Schebna, der Schreiber, und Joach, Asaphs Sohn, der Kanzler, kamen mit zerrissenen Kleidern zu Chiskijahu und sagten ihm an die Worte Rabschakehs.

1EN el tercer año de Oseas hijo de Ela rey de Israel, comenzó á reinar Ezechîas hijo de Achâz rey de Judá.
2Cuando comenzó á reinar era de veinticinco años, y reinó en Jerusalem veintinueve años. El nombre de su madre fué Abi hija de Zachârías.
3Hizo lo recto en ojos de Jehová, conforme á todas las cosas que había hecho David su padre.
4El quitó los altos, y quebró las imágenes, y taló los bosques, é hizo pedazos la serpiente de bronce que había hecho Moisés, porque hasta entonces le quemaban perfumes los hijos de Israel; y llamóle por nombre Nehustán.
5En Jehová Dios de Israel puso su esperanza: después ni antes de él no hubo otro como él en todos los reyes de Judá.
6Porque se llegó á Jehová, y no se apartó de él, sino que guardó los mandamientos que Jehová prescribió á Moisés.
7Y Jehová fué con él; y en todas las cosas á que salía prosperaba. El se rebeló contra el rey de Asiria, y no le sirvió.
8Hirió también á los Filisteos hasta Gaza y sus términos, desde las torres de las atalayas hasta la ciudad fortalecida.
9En el cuarto año del rey Ezechîas, que era el año séptimo de Oseas hijo de Ela rey de Israel, subió Salmanasar rey de los Asirios contra Samaria, y cercóla.
10Y tomáronla al cabo de tres años; esto es, en el sexto año de Ezechîas, el cual era el año nono de Oseas rey de Israel, fué Samaria tomada.
11Y el rey de Asiria traspuso á Israel á Asiria, y púsolos en Hala, y en Habor, junto al río de Gozán, y en las ciudades de los Medos:
12Por cuanto no habían atendido la voz de Jehová su Dios, antes habían quebrantado su pacto; y todas las cosas que Moisés siervo de Jehová había mandado, ni las habían escuchado, ni puesto por obra.
13Y á los catorce años del rey Ezechîas, subió Sennachêrib rey de Asiria contra todas las ciudades fuertes de Judá, y tomólas.
14Entonces Ezechîas rey de Judá envió á decir al rey de Asiria en Lachîs: Yo he pecado: vuélvete de mí, y llevaré todo lo que me impusieres. Y el rey de Asiria impuso á Ezechîas rey de Judá trescientos talentos de plata, y treinta talentos de oro.
15Dió por tanto Ezechîas toda la plata que fué hallada en la casa de Jehová, y en los tesoros de la casa real.
16Entonces descompuso Ezechîas las puertas del templo de Jehová, y los quiciales que el mismo rey Ezechîas había cubierto de oro, y diólo al rey de Asiria.
17Después el rey de Asiria envió al rey Ezechîas, desde Lachîs contra Jerusalem, á Thartán y á Rabsaris y á Rabsaces, con un grande ejército: y subieron, y vinieron á Jerusalem. Y habiendo subido, vinieron y pararon junto al conducto del estanque de arriba, que es en el camino de la heredad del batanero.
18Llamaron luego al rey, y salió á ellos Eliacim hijo de Hilcías, que era mayordomo, y Sebna escriba, y Joah hijo de Asaph, canciller.
19Y díjoles Rabsaces: Decid ahora á Ezechîas: Así dice el gran rey de Asiria: ¿Qué confianza es esta en que tú estás?
20Dices, (por cierto palabras de labios): Consejo tengo y esfuerzo para la guerra. Mas ¿en qué confías, que te has rebelado contra mí?
21He aquí tú confías ahora en este bordón de caña cascada, en Egipto, en el que si alguno se apoyare, entrarále por la mano, y se le pasará. Tal es Faraón rey de Egipto, para todos los que en él confían.
22Y si me decís: Nosotros confiamos en Jehová nuestro Dios: ¿no es aquél cuyos altos y altares ha quitado Ezechîas, y ha dicho á Judá y á Jerusalem: Delante de este altar adoraréis en Jerusalem?
23Por tanto, ahora yo te ruego que des rehenes á mi señor, el rey de Asiria, y yo te daré dos mil caballos, si tú pudieres dar jinetes para ellos.
24¿Cómo pues harás volver el rostro de un capitán el menor de los siervos de mi señor, aunque estés confiado en Egipto por sus carros y su gente de á caballo?
25Además, ¿he venido yo ahora sin Jehová á este lugar, para destruirlo? Jehová me ha dicho: Sube á esta tierra, y destrúyela.
26Entonces dijo Eliacim hijo de Hilcías, y Sebna y Joah, á Rabsaces: Ruégote que hables á tus siervos siriaco, porque nosotros lo entendemos, y no hables con nosotros judaico á oídos del pueblo que está sobre el muro.
27Y Rabsaces les dijo: ¿Hame enviado mi señor á ti y á tu señor para decir estas palabras, y no antes á los hombres que están sobre el muro, para comer su estiércol, y beber el agua de sus pies con vosotros?
28Paróse luego Rabsaces, y clamó á gran voz en judaico, y habló, diciendo: Oid la palabra del gran rey, el rey de Asiria.
29Así ha dicho el rey: No os engañe Ezechîas, porque no os podrá librar de mi mano.
30Y no os haga Ezechîas confiar en Jehová, diciendo: De cierto nos librará Jehová, y esta ciudad no será entregada en mano del rey de Asiria.
31No oigáis á Ezechîas, porque así dice el rey de Asiria: Haced conmigo paz, y salid á mí, y cada uno comerá de su vid, y de su higuera, y cada uno beberá las aguas de su pozo;
32Hasta que yo venga, y os lleve á una tierra como la vuestra, tierra de grano y de vino, tierra de pan y de viñas, tierra de olivas, de aceite, y de miel; y viviréis, y no moriréis. No oigáis á Ezechîas, porque os engaña cuando dice: Jehová nos librará.
33¿Acaso alguno de los dioses de las gentes ha librado su tierra de la mano del rey de Asiria?
34¿Dónde está el dios de Hamath, y de Arphad? ¿dónde el dios de Sepharvaim, de Hena, y de Hiva? ¿pudieron éstos librar á Samaria de mi mano?
35¿Qué dios de todos los dioses de las provincias ha librado á su provincia de mi mano, para que libre Jehová de mi mano á Jerusalem?
36Y el pueblo calló, que no le respondieron palabra: porque había mandamiento del rey, el cual había dicho: No le respondáis.
37Entonces Eliacim hijo de Hilcías, que era mayordomo, y Sebna el escriba, y Joah hijo de Asaph, canciller, vinieron á Ezechîas, rotos sus vestidos, y recitáronle las palabras de Rabsaces.

1Now it came to pass in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign.
2Twenty and five years old was he when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also was Abi, the daughter of Zachariah.
3And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that David his father did.
4He removed the high places, and brake the images, and cut down the groves, and brake in pieces the brasen serpent that Moses had made: for unto those days the children of Israel did burn incense to it: and he called it Nehushtan.
5He trusted in the LORD God of Israel; so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor any that were before him.
6For he clave to the LORD, and departed not from following him, but kept his commandments, which the LORD commanded Moses.
7And the LORD was with him; and he prospered whithersoever he went forth: and he rebelled against the king of Assyria, and served him not.
8He smote the Philistines, even unto Gaza, and the borders thereof, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city.
9And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria, and besieged it.
10And at the end of three years they took it: even in the sixth year of Hezekiah, that is the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel, Samaria was taken.
11And the king of Assyria did carry away Israel unto Assyria, and put them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes:
12Because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD their God, but transgressed his covenant, and all that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded, and would not hear them, nor do them.
13Now in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah did Sennacherib king of Assyria come up against all the fenced cities of Judah, and took them.
14And Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria to Lachish, saying, I have offended; return from me: that which thou puttest on me will I bear. And the king of Assyria appointed unto Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.
15And Hezekiah gave him all the silver that was found in the house of the LORD, and in the treasures of the king’s house.
16At that time did Hezekiah cut off the gold from the doors of the temple of the LORD, and from the pillars which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and gave it to the king of Assyria.
17And the king of Assyria sent Tartan and Rabsaris and Rab-shakeh from Lachish to king Hezekiah with a great host against Jerusalem. And they went up and came to Jerusalem. And when they were come up, they came and stood by the conduit of the upper pool, which is in the highway of the fuller’s field.
18And when they had called to the king, there came out to them Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, which was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder.
19And Rab-shakeh said unto them, Speak ye now to Hezekiah, Thus saith the great king, the king of Assyria, What confidence is this wherein thou trustest?
20Thou sayest, (but they are but vain words,) I have counsel and strength for the war. Now on whom dost thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?
21Now, behold, thou trustest upon the staff of this bruised reed, even upon Egypt, on which if a man lean, it will go into his hand, and pierce it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt unto all that trust on him.
22But if ye say unto me, We trust in the LORD our God: is not that he, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and hath said to Judah and Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem?
23Now therefore, I pray thee, give pledges to my lord the king of Assyria, and I will deliver thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders upon them.
24How then wilt thou turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master’s servants, and put thy trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?
25Am I now come up without the LORD against this place to destroy it? The LORD said to me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.
26Then said Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, and Shebna, and Joah, unto Rab-shakeh, Speak, I pray thee, to thy servants in the Syrian language; for we understand it: and talk not with us in the Jews’ language in the ears of the people that are on the wall.
27But Rab-shakeh said unto them, Hath my master sent me to thy master, and to thee, to speak these words? hath he not sent me to the men which sit on the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own piss with you?
28Then Rab-shakeh stood and cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ language, and spake, saying, Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria:
29Thus saith the king, Let not Hezekiah deceive you: for he shall not be able to deliver you out of his hand:
30Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, The LORD will surely deliver us, and this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.
31Hearken not to Hezekiah: for thus saith the king of Assyria, Make an agreement with me by a present, and come out to me, and then eat ye every man of his own vine, and every one of his fig tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his cistern:
32Until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of oil olive and of honey, that ye may live, and not die: and hearken not unto Hezekiah, when he persuadeth you, saying, The LORD will deliver us.
33Hath any of the gods of the nations delivered at all his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?
34Where are the gods of Hamath, and of Arpad? where are the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah? have they delivered Samaria out of mine hand?
35Who are they among all the gods of the countries, that have delivered their country out of mine hand, that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem out of mine hand?
36But the people held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king’s commandment was, saying, Answer him not.
37Then came Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, which was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder, to Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and told him the words of Rab-shakeh.

1Now in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign.
2He was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Abi the daughter of Zechariah.
3He did that which was right in the LORD’s eyes, according to all that David his father had done.
4He removed the high places, broke the pillars, and cut down the Asherah. He also broke in pieces the bronze serpent that Moses had made, because in those days the children of Israel burned incense to it; and he called it Nehushtan.
5He trusted in the LORD, the God of Israel, so that after him was no one like him among all the kings of Judah, nor among them that were before him.
6For he joined with the LORD. He didn’t depart from following him, but kept his commandments, which the LORD commanded Moses.
7The LORD was with him. Wherever he went, he prospered. He rebelled against the king of Assyria, and didn’t serve him.
8He struck the Philistines to Gaza and its borders, from the tower of the watchmen to the fortified city.

14Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria at Lachish, saying, “I have offended you. Withdraw from me. That which you put on me, I will bear.” The king of Assyria appointed to Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.
15Hezekiah gave him all the silver that was found in the LORD’s house and in the treasures of the king’s house.
16At that time, Hezekiah cut off the gold from the doors of the LORD’s temple, and from the pillars which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and gave it to the king of Assyria.
17The king of Assyria sent Tartan, Rabsaris, and Rabshakeh from Lachish to King Hezekiah with a great army to Jerusalem. They went up and came to Jerusalem. When they had come up, they came and stood by the conduit of the upper pool, which is in the highway of the fuller’s field.

19Rabshakeh said to them, “Say now to Hezekiah, ‘The great king, the king of Assyria, says, “What confidence is this in which you trust?
20You say (but they are but vain words), ‘There is counsel and strength for war.’ Now on whom do you trust, that you have rebelled against me?
21Now, behold, you trust in the staff of this bruised reed, even in Egypt. If a man leans on it, it will go into his hand and pierce it. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust on him.
22But if you tell me, ‘We trust in the LORD our God,’ isn’t that he whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah has taken away, and has said to Judah and to Jerusalem, ‘You shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem’?
23Now therefore, please give pledges to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give you two thousand horses if you are able on your part to set riders on them.

27But Rabshakeh said to them, “Has my master sent me to your master and to you, to speak these words? Hasn’t he sent me to the men who sit on the wall, to eat their own dung, and to drink their own urine with you?”
28Then Rabshakeh stood and cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ language, and spoke, saying, “Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria.
29The king says, ‘Don’t let Hezekiah deceive you, for he will not be able to deliver you out of his hand.
30Don’t let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, “The LORD will surely deliver us, and this city shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.”
31Don’t listen to Hezekiah.’ For the king of Assyria says, ‘Make your peace with me, and come out to me; and everyone of you eat from his own vine, and everyone from his own fig tree, and everyone drink water from his own cistern;
32until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olive trees and of honey, that you may live and not die. Don’t listen to Hezekiah when he persuades you, saying, “The LORD will deliver us.”
33Has any of the gods of the nations ever delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?
