1In the second year of Joash, son of Joahaz, king of Israel, Amaziah, the son of Joash, became king of Judah.
2He was twenty-five years old when he became king; and he was ruling in Jerusalem for twenty-nine years; his mother's name was Jehoaddin of Jerusalem.
3He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, though not like David his father; he did as Joash his father had done.
4But still the high places were not taken away; the people went on making offerings and burning them in the high places.
5Now when he became strong in the kingdom, straight away he put to death those servants who had taken the life of the king his father;
6But he did not put their children to death; for the orders of the Lord recorded in the book of the law of Moses say, The fathers are not to be put to death for the children, or the children for their fathers; but a man is to be put to death for the sin which he himself has done.
7He put to the sword twelve thousand men of Edom in the Valley of Salt, and took Sela in war, naming it Joktheel, as it is to this day.
8Then Amaziah sent representatives to Jehoash, the son of Jehoahaz, son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us have a meeting face to face.
9And Jehoash, king of Israel, sent to Amaziah, king of Judah, saying, The thorn-tree in Lebanon sent to the cedar in Lebanon, saying, Give your daughter to my son for a wife: and a beast from the woodland in Lebanon went by, crushing the thorn under his feet.
10It is true that you have overcome Edom and your heart is uplifted; let that glory be enough for you, and keep in your country; why do you make causes of trouble, putting yourself, and Judah with you, in danger of downfall?
11But Amaziah gave no attention. So Jehoash, king of Israel, went up, and he and Amaziah, king of Judah, came face to face at Beth-shemesh, which is in Judah.
12And Judah was overcome before Israel, so that they went in flight, every man to his tent.
13And Jehoash, king of Israel, made Amaziah, king of Judah, the son of Jehoash, son of Ahaziah, prisoner at Beth-shemesh, and came to Jerusalem, and had the wall of Jerusalem pulled down from the doorway of Ephraim to the door in the angle, four hundred cubits.
14And he took all the gold and silver and all the vessels which were in the house of the Lord and in the store-house of the king, together with those whose lives would be the price of broken faith, and went back to Samaria.
15Now the rest of the acts of Jehoash, and his power, and how he went to war with Amaziah, king of Judah, are they not recorded in the book of the history of the kings of Israel?
16And Jehoash went to rest with his fathers, and was put into the earth in Samaria with the kings of Israel; and Jeroboam his son became king in his place.
17Amaziah, the son of Joash, king of Judah, went on living for fifteen years after the death of Jehoash, son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel.
18And the rest of the acts of Amaziah, are they not recorded in the book of the history of the kings of Judah?
19Now they made a secret design against him in Jerusalem; and he went in flight to Lachish, but they sent after him to Lachish and put him to death there.
20And they took his body on horseback and put it into the earth with his fathers in Jerusalem, the town of David.
21Then all the people of Judah took Azariah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in place of his father Amaziah.
22He was the builder of Elath, which he got back for Judah after the death of the king.
23In the fifteenth year of the rule of Amaziah, son of Joash, king of Judah, Jeroboam, the son of Joash, king of Israel, became king in Samaria, ruling for forty-one years.
24He did evil in the eyes of the Lord, not turning away from the sin which Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, did and made Israel do.
25He got back the old limits of Israel from the way into Hamath to the sea of the Arabah, as the Lord had said by his servant Jonah, the son of Amittai, the prophet of Gath-hepher.
26For the Lord saw how bitter was the trouble of Israel, and that everyone was cut off, he who was shut up and he who went free, and that Israel had no helper.
27And the Lord had not said that the name of Israel was to be taken away from the earth; but he gave them a saviour in Jeroboam, the son of Joash.
28Now the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, and all he did, and his power, and how he went to war with Damascus, causing the wrath of the Lord to be turned away from Israel, are they not recorded in the book of the history of the kings of Israel?
29And Jeroboam went to rest with his fathers, and was put into the earth with the kings of Israel; and Zechariah his son became king in his place.

1EN el año segundo de Joas hijo de Joachâz rey de Israel, comenzó á reinar Amasías hijo de Joas rey de Judá.
2Cuando comenzó á reinar era de veinticinco años, y veintinueve años reinó en Jerusalem: el nombre de su madre fué Joaddan, de Jerusalem.
3Y él hizo lo recto en ojos de Jehová, aunque no como David su padre: hizo conforme á todas las cosas que había hecho Joas su padre.
4Con todo eso los altos no fueron quitados; que el pueblo aun sacrificaba y quemaba perfumes en los altos.
5Y luego que el reino fué confirmado en su mano, hirió á sus siervos, los que habían muerto al rey su padre.
6Mas no mató á los hijos de los que le mataron, conforme á lo que está escrito en el libro de la ley de Moisés, donde Jehová mandó, diciendo: No matarán á los padres por los hijos, ni á los hijos por los padres: mas cada uno morirá por su pecado.
7Este hirió asimismo diez mil Idumeos en el valle de las Salinas, y tomó á Sela por guerra, y llamóla Jocteel, hasta hoy.
8Entonces Amasías envió embajadores á Joas, hijo de Joachâz hijo de Jehú, rey de Israel, diciendo: Ven, y veámonos de rostro.
9Y Joas rey de Israel envió á Amasías rey de Judá esta respuesta: El cardillo que está en el Líbano envió á decir al cedro que está en el Líbano: Da tu hija por mujer á mi hijo. Y pasaron las bestias fieras que están en el Líbano, y hollaron el cardillo.
10Ciertamente has herido á Edom, y tu corazón te ha envanecido: gloríate pues, mas estáte en tu casa. ¿Y por qué te entrometerás en un mal, para que caigas tú, y Judá contigo?
11Mas Amasías no dió oídos; por lo que subió Joas rey de Israel, y viéronse de rostro él y Amasías rey de Judá, en Beth-semes, que es de Judá.
12Y Judá cayó delante de Israel, y huyeron cada uno á sus estancias.
13Además Joas rey de Israel tomó á Amasías rey de Judá, hijo de Joas hijo de Ochôzías, en Beth-semes: y vino á Jerusalem, y rompió el muro de Jerusalem desde la puerta de Ephraim hasta la puerta de la esquina, cuatrocientos codos.
14Y tomó todo el oro y la plata, y todos los vasos que fueron hallados en la casa de Jehová, y en los tesoros de la casa del rey, y los hijos en rehenes, y volvióse á Samaria.

16Y durmió Joas con sus padres, y fué sepultado en Samaria con los reyes de Israel; y reinó en su lugar Jeroboam su hijo.
17Y Amasías hijo de Joas rey de Judá, vivió después de la muerte de Joas hijo de Joachâz rey de Israel, quince años.
18Lo demás de los hechos de Amasías, ¿no está escrito en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Judá?
19E hicieron conspiración contra él en Jerusalem, y él huyó á Lachîs; mas enviaron tras él á Lachîs, y allá lo mataron.
20Trajéronlo luego sobre caballos, y sepultáronlo en Jerusalem con sus padres, en la ciudad de David.
21Entonces todo el pueblo de Judá tomó á Azarías, que era de diez y seis años, é hiciéronlo rey en lugar de Amasías su padre.

24E hizo lo malo en ojos de Jehová, y no se apartó de todos los pecados de Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, el que hizo pecar á Israel.
25El restituyó los términos de Israel desde la entrada de Amath hasta la mar de la llanura, conforme á la palabra de Jehová Dios de Israel, la cual había él hablado por su siervo Jonás hijo de Amittai, profeta que fué de Gath-hepher.
26Por cuanto Jehová miró la muy amarga aflicción de Israel; que no había guardado ni desamparado, ni quien diese ayuda á Israel;
27Y Jehová no había determinado raer el nombre de Israel de debajo del cielo: por tanto, los salvó por mano de Jeroboam hijo de Joas.
28Y lo demás de los hechos de Jeroboam, y todas las cosas que hizo, y su valentía, y todas las guerras que hizo, y cómo restituyó á Judá en Israel á Damasco y á Hamath, ¿no está escrito en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Israel?

1In the second year of Joash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel reigned Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah.
2He was twenty and five years old when he began to reign, and reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem.
3And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, yet not like David his father: he did according to all things as Joash his father did.
4Howbeit the high places were not taken away: as yet the people did sacrifice and burnt incense on the high places.
5And it came to pass, as soon as the kingdom was confirmed in his hand, that he slew his servants which had slain the king his father.
6But the children of the murderers he slew not: according unto that which is written in the book of the law of Moses, wherein the LORD commanded, saying, The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, nor the children be put to death for the fathers; but every man shall be put to death for his own sin.
7He slew of Edom in the valley of salt ten thousand, and took Selah by war, and called the name of it Joktheel unto this day.
8Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash, the son of Jehoahaz son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us look one another in the face.
9And Jehoash the king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son to wife: and there passed by a wild beast that was in Lebanon, and trode down the thistle.
10Thou hast indeed smitten Edom, and thine heart hath lifted thee up: glory of this, and tarry at home: for why shouldest thou meddle to thy hurt, that thou shouldest fall, even thou, and Judah with thee?
11But Amaziah would not hear. Therefore Jehoash king of Israel went up; and he and Amaziah king of Judah looked one another in the face at Beth-shemesh, which belongeth to Judah.
12And Judah was put to the worse before Israel; and they fled every man to their tents.
13And Jehoash king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Jehoash the son of Ahaziah, at Beth-shemesh, and came to Jerusalem, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim unto the corner gate, four hundred cubits.
14And he took all the gold and silver, and all the vessels that were found in the house of the LORD, and in the treasures of the king’s house, and hostages, and returned to Samaria.
15Now the rest of the acts of Jehoash which he did, and his might, and how he fought with Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
16And Jehoash slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel; and Jeroboam his son reigned in his stead.

19Now they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem: and he fled to Lachish; but they sent after him to Lachish, and slew him there.
20And they brought him on horses: and he was buried at Jerusalem with his fathers in the city of David.
21And all the people of Judah took Azariah, which was sixteen years old, and made him king instead of his father Amaziah.
22He built Elath, and restored it to Judah, after that the king slept with his fathers.

25He restored the coast of Israel from the entering of Hamath unto the sea of the plain, according to the word of the LORD God of Israel, which he spake by the hand of his servant Jonah, the son of Amittai, the prophet, which was of Gath-hepher.
26For the LORD saw the affliction of Israel, that it was very bitter: for there was not any shut up, nor any left, nor any helper for Israel.
27And the LORD said not that he would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven: but he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash.
28Now the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, and all that he did, and his might, how he warred, and how he recovered Damascus, and Hamath, which belonged to Judah, for Israel, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
29And Jeroboam slept with his fathers, even with the kings of Israel; and Zachariah his son reigned in his stead.
