1Als aber Athalja, die Mutter Ahasjahus, erfuhr, daß ihr Sohn tot sei, ging sie ans Werk und brachte die ganze königliche Familie um.
2Joseba aber, die Tochter des Königs Jehoram, Ahasjahus Schwester, nahm Jehoas, den Sohn Ahasjahus, und brachte ihn mitten aus den Königssöhnen, die getötet werden sollten, hinweg in Sicherheit und steckte ihn mit seiner Amme in die Bettkammer. So verbarg man ihn vor Athalja, daß er nicht getötet ward.
3Und er war bei ihr im Tempel Jahwes sechs Jahre lang versteckt, während Athalja über das Land herrschte.
4Im siebenten Jahr aber sandte Jojada hin, ließ die Hauptleute über die Hundertschaften der Karer und der Trabanten holen und zu sich in den Tempel Jahwes kommen. Sodann nahm er sie feierlich in Pflicht und ließ sie im Tempel Jahwes schwören. Sodann zeigte er ihnen den Sohn des Königs
5und gab ihnen die Anweisung: Folgendes habt ihr zu thun: ein Drittel von euch, die ihr am Sabbat antretet, sollt die Wache im königlichen Palast übernehmen,
6und ein Drittel am Thore Sur und ein Drittel am Thore hinter den Trabanten, daß ihr die Wache über den Palast haltet dem Brauche gemäß.
7Aber die zwei Abteilungen von euch allen, die am Sabbat abtreten, sollen die Wache im Tempel Jahwes bei dem König übernehmen.
8Und ihr sollt euch rings um den König scharen, jeder mit seinen Waffen in der Hand; und wer in die Reihen eindringt, soll getötet werden. Also sollt ihr bei dem Könige sein, wann er aus dem Tempel aus- und wann er in den Palast einzieht.
9Und die Hauptleute über die Hundertschaften thaten genau so, wie der Priester Jojada sie angewiesen hatte, und nahmen ein jeder seine Leute, sowohl die, welche am Sabbat antraten, als die, welche am Sabbat abtraten, und sie kamen zum Priester Jojada.
10Und der Priester gab den Obersten über die Hundertschaften die Spieße und die Schilde, die dem Könige David gehört hatten, die sich im Tempel Jahwes befanden.
11Und die Trabanten stellten sich, ein jeder mit seinen Waffen in der Hand, von der südlichen Seite des Tempels bis zur nördlichen Seite des Tempels, bis zum Altar und wieder bis zum Tempel hin rings um den König.
12Darauf ließ er den Königssohn hervorkommen und legte ihm den Stirnreif und die Spangen an, und sie machten ihn zum König und salbten ihn und riefen unter Händeklatschen: Es lebe der König!
13Als aber Athalja das Geschrei der Trabanten, des Volkes hörte, kam sie zum Volk in den Tempel Jahwes.
14Da sah sie denn, wie der König dem Brauche gemäß an der Säule stand, und die Hauptleute und die Trompeter bei dem König, und alles Volk des Landes war fröhlich und stieß in die Trompeten. Da zerriß Athalja ihre Kleider und rief: Verschwörung, Verschwörung!
15Aber der Priester Jojada gebot den Hauptleuten über die Hundertschaften, den Obersten des Heers, und sprach zu ihnen: Führt sie hinaus zwischen den Reihen hindurch, und wer ihr folgt, den tötet mit dem Schwerte! Denn der Priester hatte befohlen, sie solle nicht im Tempel Jahwes getötet werden.
16Da legte man Hand an sie, und sie gelangte durch den Eingang für die Rosse zum königlichen Palast und ward daselbst getötet.
17Und Jojada schloß den Bund zwischen Jahwe und dem König und dem Volke, daß sie ein Volk Jahwes sein wollten, sowie zwischen dem König und dem Volk.
18Sodann begab sich alles Volk des Landes in den Tempel des Baal und riß ihn nieder. Seine Altäre und Bilder zerstörten sie gründlich; Mattan aber, den Priester des Baal, töteten sie vor den Altären. Hierauf bestellte der Priester Wachen für den Tempel Jahwes
19und nahm die Hauptleute über die Hundertschaften und die Karer und Trabanten und alles Volk des Landes, und sie führten den König aus dem Tempel Jahwes hinab und gelangten durch das Trabantenthor in den königlichen Palast, und er setzte sich auf den königlichen Thron.
20Da war alles Volk des Landes fröhlich, und die Stadt blieb ruhig. Athalja aber töteten sie im königlichen Palaste mit dem Schwert.

1Y ATHALÍA madre de Ochôzías, viendo que su hijo era muerto, levantóse, y destruyó toda la simiente real.
2Pero tomando Josaba hija del rey Joram, hermana de Ochôzías, á Joas hijo de Ochôzías, sacólo furtivamente de entre los hijos del rey, que se mataban, y ocultólo de delante de Athalía, á él y á su ama, en la cámara de las camas, y así no lo mataron.
3Y estuvo con ella escondido en la casa de Jehová seis años: y Athalía fué reina sobre el país.
4Mas al séptimo año envió Joiada, y tomó centuriones, capitanes, y gente de la guardia, y metiólos consigo en la casa de Jehová: é hizo con ellos liga, juramentándolos en la casa de Jehová; y mostróles al hijo del rey.
5Y mandóles, diciendo: Esto es lo que habéis de hacer: la tercera parte de vosotros, los que entrarán el sábado, tendrán la guardia de la casa del rey;
6Y la otra tercera parte estará á la puerta del sur, y la otra tercera parte á la puerta del postigo de los de la guardia: así guardaréis la casa, para que no sea allanada.
7Y las dos partes de vosotros, es á saber, todos los que salen el sábado, tendréis la guarda de la casa de Jehová junto al rey.
8Y estaréis alrededor del rey de todas partes, teniendo cada uno sus armas en las manos, y cualquiera que entrare dentro de estos órdenes, sea muerto. Y habéis de estar con el rey cuando saliere, y cuando entrare.
9Los centuriones pues, hicieron todo como el sacerdote Joiada les mandó: y tomando cada uno los suyos, es á saber, los que habían de entrar el sábado, y los que habían salido el sábado, viniéronse á Joiada el sacerdote.
10Y el sacerdote dió á los centuriones las picas y los escudos que habían sido del rey David, que estaban en la casa de Jehová.
11Y los de la guardia se pusieron en orden, teniendo cada uno sus armas en sus manos, desde el lado derecho de la casa hasta el lado izquierdo, junto al altar y el templo, en derredor del rey.
12Sacando luego Joiada al hijo del rey, púsole la corona y el testimonio, é hiciéronle rey ungiéndole; y batiendo las manos dijeron: ¡Viva el rey!
13Y oyendo Athalía el estruendo del pueblo que corría, entró al pueblo en el templo de Jehová;
14Y como miró, he aquí el rey que estaba junto á la columna, conforme á la costumbre, y los príncipes y los trompetas junto al rey; y que todo el pueblo del país hacía alegrías, y que tocaban las trompetas. Entonces Athalía, rasgando sus vestidos, clamó á voz en grito: ¡Traición, traición!
15Mas el sacerdote Joiada mandó á los centuriones que gobernaban el ejército, y díjoles: Sacadla fuera del recinto del templo, y al que la siguiere, matadlo á cuchillo. (Porque el sacerdote dijo que no la matasen en el templo de Jehová.)
16Diéronle pues lugar, y como iba el camino por donde entran los de á caballo á la casa del rey, allí la mataron.
17Entonces Joiada hizo alianza entre Jehová y el rey y el pueblo, que serían pueblo de Jehová: y asimismo entre el rey y el pueblo.
18Y todo el pueblo de la tierra entró en el templo de Baal, y derribáronlo: asimismo despedazaron enteramente sus altares y sus imágenes, y mataron á Mathán sacerdote de Baal delante de los altares. Y el sacerdote puso guarnición sobre la casa de Jehová.
19Después tomó los centuriones, y capitanes, y los de la guardia, y á todo el pueblo de la tierra, y llevaron al rey desde la casa de Jehová, y vinieron por el camino de la puerta de los de la guardia á la casa del rey; y sentóse el rey sobre el trono de los reyes.
20Y todo el pueblo de la tierra hizo alegrías, y la ciudad estuvo en reposo, habiendo sido Athalía muerta á cuchillo junto á la casa del rey.
21Era Joas de siete años cuando comenzó á reinar.

1And when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the seed royal.
2But Jehosheba, the daughter of king Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king’s sons which were slain; and they hid him, even him and his nurse, in the bedchamber from Athaliah, so that he was not slain.
3And he was with her hid in the house of the LORD six years. And Athaliah did reign over the land.
4And the seventh year Jehoiada sent and fetched the rulers over hundreds, with the captains and the guard, and brought them to him into the house of the LORD, and made a covenant with them, and took an oath of them in the house of the LORD, and shewed them the king’s son.
5And he commanded them, saying, This is the thing that ye shall do; A third part of you that enter in on the sabbath shall even be keepers of the watch of the king’s house;
6And a third part shall be at the gate of Sur; and a third part at the gate behind the guard: so shall ye keep the watch of the house, that it be not broken down.
7And two parts of all you that go forth on the sabbath, even they shall keep the watch of the house of the LORD about the king.
8And ye shall compass the king round about, every man with his weapons in his hand: and he that cometh within the ranges, let him be slain: and be ye with the king as he goeth out and as he cometh in.
9And the captains over the hundreds did according to all things that Jehoiada the priest commanded: and they took every man his men that were to come in on the sabbath, with them that should go out on the sabbath, and came to Jehoiada the priest.
10And to the captains over hundreds did the priest give king David’s spears and shields, that were in the temple of the LORD.
11And the guard stood, every man with his weapons in his hand, round about the king, from the right corner of the temple to the left corner of the temple, along by the altar and the temple.
12And he brought forth the king’s son, and put the crown upon him, and gave him the testimony; and they made him king, and anointed him; and they clapped their hands, and said, God save the king.
13And when Athaliah heard the noise of the guard and of the people, she came to the people into the temple of the LORD.
14And when she looked, behold, the king stood by a pillar, as the manner was, and the princes and the trumpeters by the king, and all the people of the land rejoiced, and blew with trumpets: and Athaliah rent her clothes, and cried, Treason, Treason.
15But Jehoiada the priest commanded the captains of the hundreds, the officers of the host, and said unto them, Have her forth without the ranges: and him that followeth her kill with the sword. For the priest had said, Let her not be slain in the house of the LORD.
16And they laid hands on her; and she went by the way by the which the horses came into the king’s house: and there was she slain.
17And Jehoiada made a covenant between the LORD and the king and the people, that they should be the LORD’s people; between the king also and the people.
18And all the people of the land went into the house of Baal, and brake it down; his altars and his images brake they in pieces thoroughly, and slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars. And the priest appointed officers over the house of the LORD.
19And he took the rulers over hundreds, and the captains, and the guard, and all the people of the land; and they brought down the king from the house of the LORD, and came by the way of the gate of the guard to the king’s house. And he sat on the throne of the kings.
20And all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was in quiet: and they slew Athaliah with the sword beside the king’s house.
21Seven years old was Jehoash when he began to reign.

3He was with her hidden in the LORD’s house six years while Athaliah reigned over the land.
4In the seventh year Jehoiada sent and fetched the captains over hundreds of the Carites and of the guard, and brought them to him into the LORD’s house; and he made a covenant with them, and made a covenant with them in the LORD’s house, and showed them the king’s son.
5He commanded them, saying, “This is what you must do: a third of you, who come in on the Sabbath, shall be keepers of the watch of the king’s house;
6a third of you shall be at the gate Sur; and a third of you at the gate behind the guard. So you shall keep the watch of the house, and be a barrier.
7The two companies of you, even all who go out on the Sabbath, shall keep the watch of the LORD’s house around the king.
8You shall surround the king, every man with his weapons in his hand; and he who comes within the ranks, let him be slain. Be with the king when he goes out, and when he comes in.”
9The captains over hundreds did according to all that Jehoiada the priest commanded; and they each took his men, those who were to come in on the Sabbath with those who were to go out on the Sabbath, and came to Jehoiada the priest.
10The priest delivered to the captains over hundreds the spears and shields that had been King David’s, which were in the LORD’s house.
11The guard stood, every man with his weapons in his hand, from the right side of the house to the left side of the house, along by the altar and the house, around the king.
12Then he brought out the king’s son, and put the crown on him, and gave him the covenant; and they made him king and anointed him; and they clapped their hands, and said, “Long live the king!”
13When Athaliah heard the noise of the guard and of the people, she came to the people into the LORD’s house;
14and she looked, and behold, the king stood by the pillar, as the tradition was, with the captains and the trumpets by the king; and all the people of the land rejoiced, and blew trumpets. Then Athaliah tore her clothes and cried, “Treason! Treason!”
15Jehoiada the priest commanded the captains of hundreds who were set over the army, and said to them, “Bring her out between the ranks. Kill anyone who follows her with the sword.” For the priest said, “Don’t let her be slain in the LORD’s house.”
16So they seized her; and she went by the way of the horses’ entry to the king’s house, and she was slain there.
17Jehoiada made a covenant between the LORD and the king and the people, that they should be the LORD’s people; also between the king and the people.
18All the people of the land went to the house of Baal, and broke it down. They broke his altars and his images in pieces thoroughly, and killed Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars. The priest appointed officers over the LORD’s house.
19He took the captains over hundreds, and the Carites, and the guard, and all the people of the land; and they brought down the king from the LORD’s house, and came by the way of the gate of the guard to the king’s house. He sat on the throne of the kings.
