1Por lo mismo he resuelto para conmigo no ir nuevamente a veros para no causaros tristeza.
2Porque si yo voy a entriteceros, ¿quién después me ha de alegrar, toda vez que vosotros que deberíais hacerlo os hallaríais tristes por mí?
3Y ésta es la causa de haberos escrito, para no tener, llegando, tristeza sobre tristeza, con la vista de aquellos mismos que debieran causarme gozo, confiando en que todos vosotros halláis vuestra alegría en la mía.
4Es verdad que os escribí entonces en extremo afligido y con un corazón angustiado y derramando muchas lágrimas, no para entristeceros, sino para haceros conocer el amor tan singular que os tengo.
5Que si uno de vosotros ha sido causa de tristeza, sólo me ha tocado a mí una parte de la tristeza; lo digo para no agraviaros, pues todos os habéis afligido.
6Le basta a él esa corrección, hecha por muchos de los hermanos, esto es, por vuestra Iglesia.
7Ahora, por el contrario, debéis usar con él de indulgencia y consolarle, porque quizá con la demasiada tristeza no acontezca que ese tal dé al través, y se desespere.
8Por lo cual os suplico que ratifiquéis con él la caridad, y comuniquéis otra vez con él.
9Que aun por eso os he escrito, para conocer por experiencia si sois obedientes en todas las cosas.
10Lo que vosotros le concediereis por indulgencia, yo se lo concedo también; porque si yo mismo uso de indulgencia, uso de ella por amor vuestro, en nombre y en persona de Jesucristo,
11a fin de que Satanás no arrebate a ninguno de nosotros, pues no ignoramos sus maquinaciones.
12Yo por mí cuando vine a Tróade a predicar la buena nueva de Cristo , en medio de haberme abierto el Señor una entrada favorable,
13no tuvo sosiego mi espíritu, porque no hallé a mi hermano Tito; y así despidiéndome de ellos, partí para Macedonia.
14Pero gracias a Dios, que siempre nos hace triunfar en Cristo Jesús , y derrama por medio de nosotros en todas partes el buen olor del conocimiento de su Nombre.
15Porque nosotros somos el buen olor de Cristo delante de Dios, así para los que se salvan, como para los que se pierden,
16para los unos olor mortífero que les ocasiona la muerte; mas para los otros olor vivificante que les causa la vida. ¿Y quién será idóneo para un tal ministerio?
17Pero ciertamente no somos nosotros como muchísimos que adulteran la palabra de Dios, sino que la predicamos con sinceridad, como de parte de Dios, en la presencia de Dios, y según el espíritu de Cristo .

1ESTO pues determiné para conmigo, no venir otra vez á vosotros con tristeza.
2Porque si yo os contristo, ¿quién será luego el que me alegrará, sino aquel á quien yo contristare?
3Y esto mismo os escribí, porque cuando llegare no tenga tristeza sobre tristeza de los que me debiera gozar; confiando en vosotros todos que mi gozo es el de todos vosotros.
4Porque por la mucha tribulación y angustia del corazón os escribí con muchas lágrimas; no para que fueseis contristados, mas para que supieseis cuánto más amor tengo para con vosotros.
5Que si alguno me contristó, no me contristó á mí, sino en parte, por no cargaros, á todos vosotros.
6Bástale al tal esta reprensión hecha de muchos;
7Así que, al contrario, vosotros más bien lo perdonéis y consoléis, porque no sea el tal consumido de demasiada tristeza.
8Por lo cual os ruego que confirméis el amor para con él.
9Porque también por este fin os escribí, para tener experiencia de vosotros si sois obedientes en todo.
10Y al que vosotros perdonareis, yo también: porque también yo lo que he perdonado, si algo he perdonado, por vosotros lo he hecho en persona de Cristo;
11Porque no seamos engañados de Satanás: pues no ignoramos sus maquinaciones.
12Cuando vine á Troas para el evangelio de Cristo, aunque me fué abierta puerta en el Señor,
13No tuve reposo en mi espíritu, por no haber hallado á Tito mi hermano: así, despidiéndome de ellos, partí para Macedonia.
14Mas á Dios gracias, el cual hace que siempre triunfemos en Cristo Jesús, y manifiesta el olor de su conocimiento por nosotros en todo lugar.
15Porque para Dios somos buen olor de Cristo en los que se salvan, y en los que se pierden:
16A éstos ciertamente olor de muerte para muerte; y á aquéllos olor de vida para vida. Y para estas cosas ¿quién es suficiente?
17Porque no somos como muchos, mercaderes falsos de la palabra de Dios: antes con sinceridad, como de Dios, delante de Dios, hablamos en Cristo.

1But I determined this with myself, that I would not come again to you in heaviness.
2For if I make you sorry, who is he then that maketh me glad, but the same which is made sorry by me?
3And I wrote this same unto you, lest, when I came, I should have sorrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice; having confidence in you all, that my joy is the joy of you all.
4For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many tears; not that ye should be grieved, but that ye might know the love which I have more abundantly unto you.
5But if any have caused grief, he hath not grieved me, but in part: that I may not overcharge you all.
6Sufficient to such a man is this punishment, which was inflicted of many.
7So that contrariwise ye ought rather to forgive him, and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one should be swallowed up with overmuch sorrow.
8Wherefore I beseech you that ye would confirm your love toward him.
9For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye be obedient in all things.
10To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ;
11Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.
12Furthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Christ’s gospel, and a door was opened unto me of the Lord,
13I had no rest in my spirit, because I found not Titus my brother: but taking my leave of them, I went from thence into Macedonia.
14Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.
15For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish:
16To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things?
17For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.
World English Bible
1But I determined this for myself, that I would not come to you again in sorrow.
2For if I make you grieve, then who will make me glad but he who is made to grieve by me?
3And I wrote this very thing to you, so that when I came, I wouldn’t have sorrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice; having confidence in you all that my joy would be shared by all of you.
4For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote to you with many tears, not that you should be made to grieve, but that you might know the love that I have so abundantly for you.
5But if any has caused sorrow, he has caused sorrow not to me, but in part (that I not press too heavily) to you all.
6This punishment which was inflicted by the many is sufficient for such a one;
7so that, on the contrary, you should rather forgive him and comfort him, lest by any means such a one should be swallowed up with his excessive sorrow.
8Therefore I beg you to confirm your love toward him.
9For to this end I also wrote, that I might know the proof of you, whether you are obedient in all things.
10Now I also forgive whomever you forgive anything. For if indeed I have forgiven anything, I have forgiven that one for your sakes in the presence of Christ,
11that no advantage may be gained over us by Satan, for we are not ignorant of his schemes.
12Now when I came to Troas for the Good News of Christ, and when a door was opened to me in the Lord,
13I had no relief for my spirit, because I didn’t find Titus my brother, but taking my leave of them, I went out into Macedonia.
14Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and reveals through us the sweet aroma of his knowledge in every place.
15For we are a sweet aroma of Christ to God in those who are being saved and in those who perish:
16to the one a stench from death to death, to the other a sweet aroma from life to life. Who is sufficient for these things?
17For we are not as so many, peddling the word of God. But as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God, we speak in Christ.
