Dopo queste, e simili opere di giustizia, Sennacherib re degli Assiri si mosse, ed entrato sulle terre di Giuda, assediò le città forti per espugnarle.

DESPUÉS de estas cosas y de esta fidelidad, vino Sennachêrib rey de los Asirios, entró en Judá, y asentó campo contra las ciudades fuertes, y determinó de entrar en ellas.

After these things, and the establishment thereof, Sennacherib king of Assyria came, and entered into Judah, and encamped against the fenced cities, and thought to win them for himself.

Lo che vedendo Ezechia, viene a dire, che Sennacherib si avvicinavo e che tutto l'impeto della guerra si rivolgeva contro Gerusalemme.

Viendo pues Ezechîas la venida de Sennachêrib, y su aspecto de combatir á Jerusalem,

Tenuto consiglio co' suoi' grandi, e cogli uomini più valorosi, ed essendo concorsi tutti nel parere di turare le sorgive della fontana, che eran fuori della città.

Tuvo su consejo con sus príncipes y con sus valerosos, sobre cegar las fuentes de las aguas que estaban fuera de la ciudad; y ellos le apoyaron.

He took counsel with his princes and his mighty men to stop the waters of the fountains which were without the city: and they did help him.

So there was gathered much people together, who stopped all the fountains, and the brook that ran through the midst of the land, saying, Why should the kings of Assyria come, and find much water?

Egli parimente usando ogni diligenza riparò tutta la muraglia, che era rovinata, e vi fabbricò sopra delle torri, e un altro muro al di fuori; e restaurò Mello nella città di David, e fece armi di ogni sorta, e scudi:

Alentóse así Ezechîas, y edificó todos los muros caídos, é hizo alzar las torres, y otro muro por de fuera: fortificó además á Millo en la ciudad de David, é hizo muchas espadas y paveses.

Also he strengthened himself, and built up all the wall that was broken, and raised it up to the towers, and another wall without, and repaired Millo in the city of David, and made darts and shields in abundance.

E nominò i comandanti dell'esercito, e gli adunò tutti quanti sulla piazza della porta della città, e parlò al loro cuore, dicendo:

Operate da forti, e fatevi animo: non temete, e non abbiate paura del re degli Assiri, né di tutta quella moltitudine, che vien con lui: perocché molti più sono dalla parte nostra, che dalla sua.

Esforzaos y confortaos; no temáis, ni hayáis miedo del rey de Asiria, ni de toda su multitud que con él viene; porque más son con nosotros que con él.

Be strong and courageous, be not afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude that is with him: for there be more with us than with him:

“Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid or dismayed because of the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude who is with him; for there is a greater one with us than with him.

Egli ha seco un braccio di carne: con noi sta il Signore Dio nostro, che è nostro aiuto, e combatte per noi. E il popolo a queste parole di Ezechia re di Giuda prese coraggio.

Con él es el brazo de carne, mas con nosotros Jehová nuestro Dios para ayudarnos, y pelear nuestras batallas. Y afirmóse el pueblo sobre las palabras de Ezechîas rey de Judá.

With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.

Dopo che tali cose furon fatte, Sennacherib re degli Assiri (il quale con tutto il suo esercito assediava Lachis) spedì suoi messi ad Ezechia re di Giuda, e a tutto il popolo, che era nella città, i quali dissero:

Después de esto Sennachêrib rey de los Asirios, estando él sobre Lachîs y con él toda su potencia, envió sus siervos á Jerusalem, para decir á Ezechîas rey de Judá, y á todos los de Judá que estaban en Jerusalem:

After this did Sennacherib king of Assyria send his servants to Jerusalem, (but he himself laid siege against Lachish, and all his power with him,) unto Hezekiah king of Judah, and unto all Judah that were at Jerusalem, saying,

Queste cose dice Sennacherib re degli Assiri: su quale speranza ve ne state voi chiusi in Gerusalemme?

Así ha dicho Sennachêrib rey de los Asirios: ¿En quién confiáis vosotros para estar cercados en Jerusalem?

V'inganna forse Ezechia per farvi morire di fame, e di sete, assicurandovi, che il Signore Dio vostri vi libererà dalle mani del re degli Assiri?

¿No os engaña Ezechîas para entregaros á muerte, á hambre, y á sed, diciendo: Jehová nuestro Dios nos librará de la mano del rey de Asiria?

Doth not Hezekiah persuade you to give over yourselves to die by famine and by thirst, saying, The LORD our God shall deliver us out of the hand of the king of Assyria?

Non è egli quell'Ezechia, che distrusse i suoi luoghi eccelsi, e gli altari, e intimò, e disse a quelli di Giuda, e di Gerusalemme: Dinanzi ad un solo altare adorerete, e sopra di questo brucerete l'incenso?

¿No es Ezechîas el que ha quitado sus altos y sus altares, y dijo á Judá y á Jerusalem: Delante de este solo altar adoraréis, y sobre él quemaréis perfume?

Hath not the same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall worship before one altar, and burn incense upon it?

Non sapete forse voi quello, che io, e i padri miei abbiam fatto a tutti i popoli della terra? Furon eglino da tanto gli dei delle genti, e di tutti i paesi, che potesser liberare dalle mie mani il loro paese?

¿No habéis sabido lo que yo y mis padres hemos hecho á todos los pueblos de la tierra? ¿Pudieron los dioses de las gentes de las tierras librar su tierra de mi mano?

Know ye not what I and my fathers have done unto all the people of other lands? were the gods of the nations of those lands any ways able to deliver their lands out of mine hand?

Don’t you know what I and my fathers have done to all the peoples of the lands? Were the gods of the nations of those lands in any way able to deliver their land out of my hand?

Qual è tra gli dei tutti delle nazioni sterminate da' padri miei, che abbia potuto liberare il suo popolo dalle mie mani, onde possa anche sottrarvi a questa mia mano il Dio vostro?

¿Qué dios hubo de todos los dioses de aquellas gentes que destruyeron mis padres, que pudiese salvar su pueblo de mis manos? ¿Por qué podrá vuestro Dios libraros de mi mano?

Who was there among all the gods of those nations that my fathers utterly destroyed, that could deliver his people out of mine hand, that your God should be able to deliver you out of mine hand?

Badate adunque, che Ezechia non vi seduca, o con vane lusinghe vi gabbi, e non gli credete. Perocché se verun dio di tutte le genti, e reami non potè salvare il suo popolo dalla mia mano, e dalle mani de' padri miei, per conseguenza nemmeno il Dio vostro dalla mia mano potrà salvarvi.

Ahora pues, no os engañe Ezechîas, ni os persuada tal cosa, ni le creáis; que si ningún dios de todas aquellas naciones y reinos pudo librar su pueblo de mis manos, y de las manos de mis padres, ¿cuánto menos vuestro Dios os podrá librar de mi mano?

Now therefore let not Hezekiah deceive you, nor persuade you on this manner, neither yet believe him: for no god of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people out of mine hand, and out of the hand of my fathers: how much less shall your God deliver you out of mine hand?

E molte altre cose dissero i servi di Sennacherib contro il Signore Dio, e in biasimo di Ezechia suo servo.

Ed egli scrisse eziandio lettere piene di bestemmie contro il Signore Dio d'Israele, e disse di lui: Siccome gli dei delle altre genti non poteron liberare i popoli loro dalle mie mani; così il Dio di Ezechia non potrà salvare il suo popolo da questa mano.

Además de esto escribió letras en que blasfemaba á Jehová el Dios de Israel, y hablaba contra él, diciendo: Como los dioses de las gentes de los países no pudieron librar su pueblo de mis manos, tampoco el Dios de Ezechîas librará al suyo de mis manos.

He wrote also letters to rail on the LORD God of Israel, and to speak against him, saying, As the gods of the nations of other lands have not delivered their people out of mine hand, so shall not the God of Hezekiah deliver his people out of mine hand.

He also wrote letters insulting the LORD, the God of Israel, and speaking against him, saying, “As the gods of the nations of the lands, which have not delivered their people out of my hand, so shall the God of Hezekiah not deliver his people out of my hand.”

È oltre a ciò ad altissima voce in lingua Ebrea sgridava il popolo, che stava sulle mura di Gerusalemme, per isbigottirlo, e così prendere la città.

Y clamaron á gran voz en judaico al pueblo de Jerusalem que estaba en los muros, para espantarlos y ponerles temor, para tomar la ciudad.

Then they cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ speech unto the people of Jerusalem that were on the wall, to affright them, and to trouble them; that they might take the city.

E parlava del Dio di Gerusalemme, come degli dei delle nazioni della terra, lavori di mano d'uomo.

Fecer pertanto orazione Ezechia re, e Isaia figliuolo di Amos profeta contro questo bestemmiatore, e alzarono al cielo le loro voci.

E il Signore mandò un Angelo, il quale uccise tutti gli uomini forti, e valorosi, e il capo dell'esercito del re degli Assiri, il quale se ne tornò svergognato al suo paese. Ed essendo entrato nella casa del suo dio, i suoi proprj figliuoli lo ucciser di spada.

E molti eziandio portavan vittime, e offerivano sagrifizj al Signore in Gerusalemme, e doni ad Ezechia re di Giuda, il quale da indi in poi divenne famoso presso tutte le genti.

In quel tempo Ezechia si ammalò mortalmente, e fece orazione al Signore, il quale lo esaudì, e gliene diede un segno.

But Hezekiah rendered not again according to the benefit done unto him; for his heart was lifted up: therefore there was wrath upon him, and upon Judah and Jerusalem.

E de' maggazzini di grano, e di vino, e di olio, e delle stalle di ogni specie giumenti, e ovili di pecore.

Asimismo depósitos para las rentas del grano, del vino, y aceite; establos para toda suerte de bestias, y majadas para los ganados.

Ed egli edificò delle città: perocché aveva innumerabili greggi di pecore, perchè il Signore gli avea date stragrandi ricchezze.

Questi è quell'Ezechia, che turò la fontana superiore delle acque di Gihon, e le fece correre sotto terra verso ponente nella città di David. Egli riuscì felicemente in tutto quello, che intraprese.

Con tutto ciò Dio per far prova di lui, e per far conoscere tutto quello, ch'egli aveva nel cuore, lo abbandonò allorchè gli furon mandati quegli ambasciadori principi di Babilonia ad informarsi da lui del prodigio, che era avvenuto sopra la terra.

Ed Ezechia si addormentò co' padri suoi, e fu sepolto sopra i sepolcri de' figliuoli di David: e tutto Giuda celebrò i suoi funerali con tutti gli abitanti di Gerusalemme: e Manasse suo figliuolo gli succedette nel regno. Manasse per la sua empietà è condotto prigioniero a Babilonia; e convertitosi a Dio nella sua afflizione, è rimesso nel regno, e tolti di mezzo gl’idoli, ristaura il culto di Dio. A lui succede l'’empio figliuolo Ammon, e, ucciso questo da' suoi, regna il suo figliuolo, il pio Ozia.

Y durmió Ezechîas con sus padres, y sepultáronlo en los más insignes sepulcros de los hijos de David, honrándole en su muerte todo Judá y los de Jerusalem: y reinó en su lugar Manasés su hijo.

And Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the chiefest of the sepulchres of the sons of David: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem did him honour at his death. And Manasseh his son reigned in his stead.
