1Achaz avait vingt ans à son avènement et il régna seize ans à Jérusalem. Et il ne fit pas ce qui est bien aux yeux de l'Éternel, comme David, son père,
2et il marcha sur les errements des rois d'Israël, et il fit aussi des images de fonte aux Baals,
3et il offrit de l'encens dans la vallée des fils de Hinnom et brûla ses fils au feu, imitant les abominations des nations que l'Éternel avait chassées devant les enfants d'Israël.
4Et il offrit des victimes et de l'encens sur les tertres et sur les collines et sous tous les arbres verts.
5Alors l'Éternel, son Dieu, le livra aux mains du roi de Syrie, et les Syriens le battirent et lui firent beaucoup de prisonniers qu'ils menèrent à Damas ; il fut aussi livré aux mains du roi d'Israël qui lui fit essuyer une grande défaite.
6Et Pékach, fils de Remalia, tua en Juda dans une journée cent vingt mille hommes, tous braves guerriers, parce qu'ils abandonnaient l'Éternel, Dieu de leurs pères.
7Et Zichri, héros d'Éphraïm, tua Maaseïa, fils du roi, et Azricam, préfet du palais, et Elkana, le second après le roi.
8Et les Israélites emmenèrent en captivité, de leurs frères, deux cent mille femmes, fils et filles, et ils leur enlevèrent aussi un grand butin qu'ils amenèrent à Samarie.
9Or il y avait là un prophète de l'Éternel, nommé Oded, et il sortit à la rencontre de l'armée qui rentrait à Samarie et il leur dit : Voilà que dans sa colère contre Juda l'Éternel, Dieu de vos pères, les a livrés entre vos mains, et dans la fureur vous en avez fait un tel carnage, qu'il est parvenu jusqu'aux Cieux.
10Et maintenant pensez-vous vous assujettir comme serviteurs et servantes les enfants de Juda et de Jérusalem ? mais vous, en votre particulier, ne vous sentez-vous pas coupables envers l'Éternel, votre Dieu ?…
11Écoutez-moi donc et renvoyez les prisonniers que vous avez faits sur vos frères ; car la colère de l'Éternel est allumée sur vous.
12Alors se levèrent des hommes d'entre les chefs des fils d'Éphraïm, Azaria, fils de Jochanan, Béréchia, fils de Mesillemoth, et Ézéchias, fils de Sallum, et Amasa, fils de Hadlaï, pour s'opposer à ceux qui venaient de l'armée
13et ils leur dirent : N'introduisez pas ces prisonniers-là ! pensez-vous en effet, pour nous attirer la vindicte de l'Éternel, augmenter encore nos péchés et notre culpabilité ? car notre culpabilité est grande et la colère est allumée sur Israël !
14Alors la troupe armée laissa les prisonniers et le butin devant les chefs et toute l'Assemblée.
15Et les hommes, qui ont été désignés par leurs noms, se levèrent et s'emparèrent des prisonniers, et vêtirent tous ceux d'entre eux qui étaient nus, en prenant sur le butin, ils les vêtirent et les chaussèrent et leur donnèrent à manger et à boire, et les oignirent et les reconduisirent, sur des ânes tous les excédés, et les amenèrent à Jéricho, la ville des palmiers, chez leurs frères, puis-regagnèrent Samarie.
16Dans ce temps-là le roi Achaz députa vers les rois d'Assyrie pour se ménager leur secours.
17Et vinrent encore les Edomites qui firent un coup en Juda et emmenèrent des captifs.
18Et il y eut invasion des Philistins dans les villes du pays-bas et du midi de Juda, et ils s'emparèrent de Bethsémès et d'Ajalon et de Gedéroth et de Socho et de ses annexes et de Thimna et de ses annexes, et de Gimzo et de ses annexes, et s'y établirent.
19Car l'Éternel humiliait Juda à cause d'Achaz, roi d'Israël, parce qu'il laissait Juda sans frein et qu'il était rebelle à l'Éternel.
20Et il fut assailli par Thiglath-Pilnéser, roi d'Assyrie, qui le serra de près, loin de lui prêter secours.
21Bien que Achaz eût dépouillé le Temple de l'Éternel et le palais du roi et des Grands pour payer le roi d'Assyrie, cela ne lui servit de rien.
22Et dans le moment de la détresse il fut encore plus infidèle à l'Éternel, lui, le roi Achaz.
23Et il fit des sacrifices aux dieux de Damas qui l'avaient battu et il dit : Les dieux des rois de Syrie leur sont secourables, je veux leur faire des sacrifices afin qu'ils me soient secourables. Mais ils servirent à amener la chute de lui et de tout Israël.
24Et Achaz ramassa toute la vaisselle de la Maison de Dieu et mit en pièces la vaisselle de la Maison de Dieu, et il ferma les portes du Temple de l'Éternel et se fit des autels à tous les coins de Jérusalem.
25Et dans toutes les villes de Juda il fit des tertres pour brûler de l'encens aux autres dieux ; et il provoqua l'Éternel, Dieu de ses pères.
26Le reste de ses actes et tous ses errements, les premiers et les derniers, sont d'ailleurs consignés dans le livre des rois de Juda et d'Israël.
27Et Achaz reposa à côté de ses pères et reçut la sépulture dans la ville de Jérusalem ; car on ne l'introduisit pas dans les tombeaux des rois d'Israël. Et Ezéchias, son fils, devint roi en sa place.

1DE VEINTE años era Achâz cuando comenzó á reinar, y dieciséis años reinó en Jerusalem: mas no hizo lo recto en ojos de Jehová, como David su padre.
2Antes anduvo en los caminos de los reyes de Israel, y además hizo imágenes de fundición á los Baales.
3Quemó también perfume en el valle de los hijos de Hinnom, y quemó sus hijos por fuego, conforme á las abominaciones de las gentes que Jehová había echado delante de los hijos de Israel.
4Asimismo sacrificó y quemó perfumes en los altos, y en los collados, y debajo de todo árbol espeso.
5Por lo cual Jehová su Dios lo entregó en manos del rey de los Siros, los cuales le derrotaron, y cogieron de él una grande presa, que llevaron á Damasco. Fué también entregado en manos del rey de Israel, el cual lo batió con gran mortandad.
6Porque Peca, hijo de Remalías mató en Judá en un día ciento y veinte mil, todos hombres valientes; por cuanto habían dejado á Jehová el Dios de sus padres.
7Asimismo Zichri, hombre poderoso de Ephraim, mató á Maasías hijo del rey, y á Azricam su mayordomo, y á Elcana, segundo después del rey.
8Tomaron también cautivos los hijos de Israel de sus hermanos doscientos mil, mujeres, muchachos, y muchachas, á más de haber saqueado de ellos un gran despojo, el cual trajeron á Samaria.
9Había entonces allí un profeta de Jehová, que se llamaba Obed, el cual salió delante del ejército cuando entraba en Samaria, y díjoles: He aquí Jehová el Dios de vuestros padres, por el enojo contra Judá, los ha entregado en vuestras manos; y vosotros los habéis muerto con ira, que hasta el cielo ha llegado.
10Y ahora habéis determinado sujetar á vosotros á Judá y á Jerusalem por siervos y siervas: mas ¿no habéis vosotros pecado contra Jehová vuestro Dios?
11Oidme pues ahora, y volved á enviar los cautivos que habéis tomado de vuestros hermanos: porque Jehová está airado contra vosotros.
12Levantáronse entonces algunos varones de los principales de los hijos de Ephraim, Azarías hijo de Johanán, y Berechîas hijo de Mesillemoth, y Ezechîas hijo de Sallum, y Amasa hijo de Hadlai, contra los que venían de la guerra.
13Y dijéronles: No metáis acá la cautividad; porque el pecado contra Jehová será sobre nosotros. Vosotros tratáis de añadir sobre nuestros pecados y sobre nuestras culpas, siendo asaz grande nuestro delito, y la ira del furor sobre Israel.
14Entonces el ejército dejó los cautivos y la presa delante de los príncipes y de toda la multitud.
15Y levantáronse los varones nombrados, y tomaron los cautivos, y vistieron del despojo á los que de ellos estaban desnudos; vistiéronlos y calzáronlos, y diéronles de comer y de beber, y ungiéronlos, y condujeron en asnos á todos los flacos, y lleváronlos hasta Jericó, ciudad de las palmas, cerca de sus hermanos; y ellos se volvieron á Samaria.
16En aquel tiempo envió á pedir el rey Achâz á los reyes de Asiria que le ayudasen:
17Porque á más de esto, los Idumeos habían venido y herido á los de Judá, y habían llevado cautivos.
18Asimismo los Filisteos se habían derramado por las ciudades de la llanura, y al mediodía de Judá, y habían tomado á Beth-semes, á Ajalón, Gederoth, y Sochô con sus aldeas, Timna también con sus aldeas, y Gimzo con sus aldeas; y habitaban en ellas.
19Porque Jehová había humillado á Judá por causa de Achâz rey de Israel: por cuanto él había desnudado á Judá, y rebeládose gravemente contra Jehová.
20Y vino contra él Tilgath-pilneser, rey de los Asirios: pues lo redujo á estrechez, y no lo fortificó.
21Aunque despojó Achâz la casa de Jehová, y la casa real, y las de los príncipes, para dar al rey de los Asirios, con todo eso él no le ayudó.
22Además el rey Achâz en el tiempo que aquél le apuraba, añadió prevaricación contra Jehová;
23Porque sacrificó á los dioses de Damasco que le habían herido, y dijo: Pues que los dioses de los reyes de Siria les ayudan, yo también sacrificaré á ellos para que me ayuden; bien que fueron éstos su ruina, y la de todo Israel.
24A más de eso recogió Achâz los vasos de la casa de Dios, y quebrólos, y cerró las puertas de la casa de Jehová, é hízose altares en Jerusalem en todos los rincones.
25Hizo también altos en todas las ciudades de Judá, para quemar perfumes á los dioses ajenos, provocando así á ira á Jehová el Dios de sus padres.
26Lo demás de sus hechos, y todos sus caminos, primeros y postreros, he aquí ello está escrito en el libro de los reyes de Judá y de Israel.
27Y durmió Achâz con sus padres, y sepultáronlo en la ciudad de Jerusalem: mas no le metieron en los sepulcros de los reyes de Israel; y reinó en su lugar Ezechîas su hijo.

1Ahaz was twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem: but he did not that which was right in the sight of the LORD, like David his father:
2For he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, and made also molten images for Baalim.
3Moreover he burnt incense in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and burnt his children in the fire, after the abominations of the heathen whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel.
4He sacrificed also and burnt incense in the high places, and on the hills, and under every green tree.
5Wherefore the LORD his God delivered him into the hand of the king of Syria; and they smote him, and carried away a great multitude of them captives, and brought them to Damascus. And he was also delivered into the hand of the king of Israel, who smote him with a great slaughter.
6For Pekah the son of Remaliah slew in Judah an hundred and twenty thousand in one day, which were all valiant men; because they had forsaken the LORD God of their fathers.
7And Zichri, a mighty man of Ephraim, slew Maaseiah the king’s son, and Azrikam the governor of the house, and Elkanah that was next to the king.
8And the children of Israel carried away captive of their brethren two hundred thousand, women, sons, and daughters, and took also away much spoil from them, and brought the spoil to Samaria.
9But a prophet of the LORD was there, whose name was Oded: and he went out before the host that came to Samaria, and said unto them, Behold, because the LORD God of your fathers was wroth with Judah, he hath delivered them into your hand, and ye have slain them in a rage that reacheth up unto heaven.
10And now ye purpose to keep under the children of Judah and Jerusalem for bondmen and bondwomen unto you: but are there not with you, even with you, sins against the LORD your God?
11Now hear me therefore, and deliver the captives again, which ye have taken captive of your brethren: for the fierce wrath of the LORD is upon you.
12Then certain of the heads of the children of Ephraim, Azariah the son of Johanan, Berechiah the son of Meshillemoth, and Jehizkiah the son of Shallum, and Amasa the son of Hadlai, stood up against them that came from the war,
13And said unto them, Ye shall not bring in the captives hither: for whereas we have offended against the LORD already, ye intend to add more to our sins and to our trespass: for our trespass is great, and there is fierce wrath against Israel.
14So the armed men left the captives and the spoil before the princes and all the congregation.
15And the men which were expressed by name rose up, and took the captives, and with the spoil clothed all that were naked among them, and arrayed them, and shod them, and gave them to eat and to drink, and anointed them, and carried all the feeble of them upon asses, and brought them to Jericho, the city of palm trees, to their brethren: then they returned to Samaria.
16At that time did king Ahaz send unto the kings of Assyria to help him.
17For again the Edomites had come and smitten Judah, and carried away captives.
18The Philistines also had invaded the cities of the low country, and of the south of Judah, and had taken Beth-shemesh, and Ajalon, and Gederoth, and Shocho with the villages thereof, and Timnah with the villages thereof, Gimzo also and the villages thereof: and they dwelt there.
19For the LORD brought Judah low because of Ahaz king of Israel; for he made Judah naked, and transgressed sore against the LORD.
20And Tilgath-pilneser king of Assyria came unto him, and distressed him, but strengthened him not.
21For Ahaz took away a portion out of the house of the LORD, and out of the house of the king, and of the princes, and gave it unto the king of Assyria: but he helped him not.
22And in the time of his distress did he trespass yet more against the LORD: this is that king Ahaz.
23For he sacrificed unto the gods of Damascus, which smote him: and he said, Because the gods of the kings of Syria help them, therefore will I sacrifice to them, that they may help me. But they were the ruin of him, and of all Israel.
24And Ahaz gathered together the vessels of the house of God, and cut in pieces the vessels of the house of God, and shut up the doors of the house of the LORD, and he made him altars in every corner of Jerusalem.
25And in every several city of Judah he made high places to burn incense unto other gods, and provoked to anger the LORD God of his fathers.
26Now the rest of his acts and of all his ways, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
27And Ahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city, even in Jerusalem: but they brought him not into the sepulchres of the kings of Israel: and Hezekiah his son reigned in his stead.

13and said to them, “You must not bring in the captives here, for you intend that which will bring on us a trespass against the LORD, to add to our sins and to our guilt; for our guilt is great, and there is fierce wrath against Israel.”

15The men who have been mentioned by name rose up and took the captives, and with the plunder clothed all who were naked among them, dressed them, gave them sandals, gave them something to eat and to drink, anointed them, carried all the feeble of them on donkeys, and brought them to Jericho, the city of palm trees, to their brothers. Then they returned to Samaria.
16At that time King Ahaz sent to the kings of Assyria to help him.
17For again the Edomites had come and struck Judah, and carried away captives.
18The Philistines also had invaded the cities of the lowland and of the South of Judah, and had taken Beth Shemesh, Aijalon, Gederoth, Soco with its villages, Timnah with its villages, and also Gimzo and its villages; and they lived there.
19For the LORD brought Judah low because of Ahaz king of Israel, because he acted without restraint in Judah and trespassed severely against the LORD.
20Tilgath-pilneser king of Assyria came to him and gave him trouble, but didn’t strengthen him.
21For Ahaz took away a portion out of the LORD’s house, and out of the house of the king and of the princes, and gave it to the king of Assyria; but it didn’t help him.
22In the time of his distress, he trespassed yet more against the LORD, this same King Ahaz.
23For he sacrificed to the gods of Damascus which had defeated him. He said, “Because the gods of the kings of Syria helped them, I will sacrifice to them, that they may help me.” But they were the ruin of him and of all Israel.
24Ahaz gathered together the vessels of God’s house, cut the vessels of God’s house in pieces, and shut up the doors of the LORD’s house; and he made himself altars in every corner of Jerusalem.
25In every city of Judah he made high places to burn incense to other gods, and provoked the LORD, the God of his fathers, to anger.
26Now the rest of his acts, and all his ways, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
