1Tout le peuple de Juda prit Ouzzia, alors âgé de seize ans, et le proclama roi à la place de son père Amacia.
2Il rebâtit Elot et la restitua à Juda, après que le roi se fut endormi avec ses aïeux.
3Agé de seize ans à son avènement, Ouzzia régna cinquante-deux ans à Jérusalem. Le nom de sa mère était Yekholia, de Jérusalem.
4Il fit ce qui est droit aux yeux de l’Eternel, suivant en tout l’exemple de son père Amacia.
5Il s’appliqua à rechercher Dieu tant que vécut Zekhariahou, qui savait inspirer la crainte de Dieu. Et tant qu’il recherchait le Seigneur, Dieu lui donnait le succès.
6Il entra en campagne pour combattre les Philistins, renversa les remparts de Gath, de Jabné, d’Asdod, et fortifia des villes dans le territoire d’Asdod et d’autres régions des Philistins.
7Dieu l’assista contre les Philistins, les Arabes établis à Gour-Baal, et les Meounites.
8Les Ammonites aussi offrirent des présents à Ouzzia. Sa renommée se répandit jusqu’au territoire d’Egypte, car il acquit une extrême puissance.
9Ouzzia bâtit des tours à Jérusalem, sur la porte de l’Angle, sur la porte de la Vallée et sur l’Encoignure, et les rendit très fortes.
10Il bâtit aussi des tours dans le désert, fit creuser de nombreuses citernes, car il avait un nombreux bétail dans les terres basses et dans la plaine, des laboureurs et des vignerons dans les montagnes et les champs fertiles, ayant beaucoup de goût pour l’agriculture.
11Ouzzia eut une armée de gens de guerre allant en campagne par bandes selon le contingent fixé par les soins de Yeïêl, le secrétaire, et Maassêyahou, le préfet, sous la direction de Hananiahou, l’un des lieutenants royaux.
12Le nombre des chefs de famille parmi ces guerriers était en tout de deux mille six cents.
13Sous leur direction il y avait une armée active de trois cent sept mille cinq cents combattants, vaillants guerriers pour aider le roi contre l’ennemi.
14Ouzzia leur fit préparer, à toute l’armée, des boucliers, des lances, des casques, des cuirasses, des carquois et les pierres de fronde.
15Il fit aussi fabriquer à Jérusalem des engins imaginés par un ingénieur, qui devaient être placés sur les tours et les angles, et lancer des traits et de grosses pierres; aussi sa renommée s’étendit-elle au loin, car il se fit seconder à merveille jusqu’à devenir puissant.
16Mais dans la puissance, son cœur s’enorgueillit jusqu’au crime; il fut rebelle contre l’Eternel, son Dieu, et pénétra dans le sanctuaire de l’Eternel, pour faire des fumigations sur l’autel des parfums.
17Azariahou, le prêtre, entra derrière lui, accompagné des prêtres de l’Eternel, au nombre de quatre-vingts hommes courageux,
18qui s’opposèrent au roi Ouzzia et lui dirent: "Ce n’est pas ton rôle, Ouzzia, d’offrir l’encens à l’Eternel; c’est celui des prêtres, des descendants d’Aaron, consacrés à ce soin; sors du sanctuaire, car tu as péché, et cela ne te fait point honneur devant l’Eternel Dieu.
19Ouzzia se mit en colère, tandis qu’il tenait en main l’encensoir à fumigation, et alors qu’il s’emportait contre les prêtres, la lèpre brilla sur son front, en présence des prêtres, dans le temple de l’Eternel, auprès de l’autel des parfums.
20Azariahou, le prêtre en chef, se tourna vers lui ainsi que tous les prêtres, et voici qu’il était atteint de lèpre au front. Ils le firent sortir en hâte du lieu, et lui-même, d’ailleurs, s’empressa de sortir, car l’Eternel l’avait frappé.
21Le roi Ouzzia resta atteint de lèpre jusqu’au jour de sa mort et demeura lépreux dans une maison d’isolement, car il avait été retranché du temple de l’Eternel. Jotham, son fils, préposé au palais du roi, gouvernait les gens du pays.
22Le reste de l’histoire d’Ouzzia, du commencement à la fin, a été écrit par Isaïe, fils d’Amoç, le prophète.
23Ouzzia s’endormit avec ses aïeux, et il fut enterré avec eux dans le champ de la sépulture des rois, car on allégua qu’il était lépreux. Son fils Jotham lui succéda.

1ENTONCES todo el pueblo de Judá tomó á Uzzías, el cual era de diez y seis años, y pusiéronlo por rey en lugar de Amasías su padre.
2Edificó él á Eloth, y la restituyó á Judá después que el rey durmió con sus padres.
3De diez y seis años era Uzzías cuando comenzó á reinar, y cincuenta y dos años reinó en Jerusalem. El nombre de su madre fué Jechôlía, de Jerusalem.
4E hizo lo recto en los ojos de Jehová, conforme á todas las cosas que había hecho Amasías su padre.
5Y persistió en buscar á Dios en los días de Zachârías, entendido en visiones de Dios; y en estos días que él buscó á Jehová, él le prosperó.
6Y salió, y peleó contra los Filisteos, y rompió el muro de Gath, y el muro de Jabnia, y el muro de Asdod; y edificó ciudades en Asdod, y en la tierra de los Filisteos.
7Y dióle Dios ayuda contra los Filisteos, y contra los Arabes que habitaban en Gur-baal, y contra los Ammonitas.
8Y dieron los Ammonitas presentes á Uzzías, y divulgóse su nombre hasta la entrada de Egipto; porque se había hecho altamente poderoso.
9Edificó también Uzzías torres en Jerusalem, junto á la puerta del ángulo, y junto á la puerta del valle, y junto á las esquinas; y fortificólas.
10Asimismo edificó torres en el desierto, y abrió muchas cisternas: porque tuvo muchos ganados, así en los valles como en las vegas; y viñas, y labranzas, así en los montes como en los llanos fértiles; porque era amigo de la agricultura.
11Tuvo también Uzzías escuadrones de guerreros, los cuales salían á la guerra en ejército, según que estaban por lista hecha por mano de Jehiel escriba y de Maasías gobernador, y por mano de Hananías, uno de los príncipes del rey.
12Todo el número de los jefes de familias, valientes y esforzados, era dos mil y seiscientos.
13Y bajo la mano de éstos estaba el ejército de guerra, de trescientos siete mil y quinientos guerreros poderosos y fuertes para ayudar al rey contra los enemigos.
14Y aprestóles Uzzías para todo el ejército, escudos, lanzas, almetes, coseletes, arcos, y hondas de tirar piedras.
15E hizo en Jerusalem máquinas por industria de ingenieros, para que estuviesen en las torres y en los baluartes, para arrojar saetas y grandes piedras, y su fama se extendió lejos, porque se ayudó maravillosamente, hasta hacerse fuerte.
16Mas cuando fué fortificado, su corazón se enalteció hasta corromperse; porque se rebeló contra Jehová su Dios, entrando en el templo de Jehová para quemar sahumerios en el altar del perfume.
17Y entró tras él el sacerdote Azarías, y con él ochenta sacerdotes de Jehová, de los valientes.
18Y pusiéronse contra el rey Uzzías, y dijéronle: No á ti, oh Uzzías, el quemar perfume á Jehová, sino á los sacerdotes hijos de Aarón, que son consagrados para quemarlo: sal del santuario, por que has prevaricado, y no te será para gloria delante del Dios Jehová.
19Y airóse Uzzías, que tenía el perfume en la mano para quemarlo; y en esta su ira contra los sacerdotes, la lepra le salió en la frente delante de los sacerdotes en la casa de Jehová, junto al altar del perfume.
20Y miróle Azarías el sumo sacerdote, y todos los sacerdotes, y he aquí la lepra estaba en su frente; é hiciéronle salir apriesa de aquel lugar; y él también se dió priesa á salir, porque Jehová lo había herido.
21Así el rey Uzzías fué leproso hasta el día de su muerte, y habitó en una casa apartada, leproso, por lo que había sido separado de la casa de Jehová; y Joatham su hijo tuvo cargo de la casa real, gobernando al pueblo de la tierra.
22Lo demás de los hechos de Uzzías, primeros y postreros, escribiólo Isaías profeta, hijo de Amós.
23Y durmió Uzzías con sus padres, y sepultáronlo con sus padres en el campo de los sepulcros reales; porque dijeron: Leproso es. Y reinó Joatham su hijo en lugar suyo.

1Then all the people of Judah took Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in the room of his father Amaziah.
2He built Eloth, and restored it to Judah, after that the king slept with his fathers.
3Sixteen years old was Uzziah when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty and two years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also was Jecoliah of Jerusalem.
4And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father Amaziah did.
5And he sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God: and as long as he sought the LORD, God made him to prosper.
6And he went forth and warred against the Philistines, and brake down the wall of Gath, and the wall of Jabneh, and the wall of Ashdod, and built cities about Ashdod, and among the Philistines.
7And God helped him against the Philistines, and against the Arabians that dwelt in Gur-baal, and the Mehunims.
8And the Ammonites gave gifts to Uzziah: and his name spread abroad even to the entering in of Egypt; for he strengthened himself exceedingly.
9Moreover Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at the corner gate, and at the valley gate, and at the turning of the wall, and fortified them.
10Also he built towers in the desert, and digged many wells: for he had much cattle, both in the low country, and in the plains: husbandmen also, and vine dressers in the mountains, and in Carmel: for he loved husbandry.
11Moreover Uzziah had an host of fighting men, that went out to war by bands, according to the number of their account by the hand of Jeiel the scribe and Maaseiah the ruler, under the hand of Hananiah, one of the king’s captains.
12The whole number of the chief of the fathers of the mighty men of valour were two thousand and six hundred.
13And under their hand was an army, three hundred thousand and seven thousand and five hundred, that made war with mighty power, to help the king against the enemy.
14And Uzziah prepared for them throughout all the host shields, and spears, and helmets, and habergeons, and bows, and slings to cast stones.
15And he made in Jerusalem engines, invented by cunning men, to be on the towers and upon the bulwarks, to shoot arrows and great stones withal. And his name spread far abroad; for he was marvellously helped, till he was strong.
16But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction: for he transgressed against the LORD his God, and went into the temple of the LORD to burn incense upon the altar of incense.
17And Azariah the priest went in after him, and with him fourscore priests of the LORD, that were valiant men:
18And they withstood Uzziah the king, and said unto him, It appertaineth not unto thee, Uzziah, to burn incense unto the LORD, but to the priests the sons of Aaron, that are consecrated to burn incense: go out of the sanctuary; for thou hast trespassed; neither shall it be for thine honour from the LORD God.
19Then Uzziah was wroth, and had a censer in his hand to burn incense: and while he was wroth with the priests, the leprosy even rose up in his forehead before the priests in the house of the LORD, from beside the incense altar.
20And Azariah the chief priest, and all the priests, looked upon him, and, behold, he was leprous in his forehead, and they thrust him out from thence; yea, himself hasted also to go out, because the LORD had smitten him.
21And Uzziah the king was a leper unto the day of his death, and dwelt in a several house, being a leper; for he was cut off from the house of the LORD: and Jotham his son was over the king’s house, judging the people of the land.
22Now the rest of the acts of Uzziah, first and last, did Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, write.
23So Uzziah slept with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the field of the burial which belonged to the kings; for they said, He is a leper: and Jotham his son reigned in his stead.

12The whole number of the heads of fathers’ households, even the mighty men of valor, was two thousand six hundred.
13Under their hand was an army, three hundred seven thousand five hundred, who made war with mighty power, to help the king against the enemy.
14Uzziah prepared for them, even for all the army, shields, spears, helmets, coats of mail, bows, and stones for slinging.
15In Jerusalem, he made devices, invented by skillful men, to be on the towers and on the battlements, with which to shoot arrows and great stones. His name spread far abroad, because he was marvelously helped until he was strong.
16But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up, so that he did corruptly and he trespassed against the LORD his God, for he went into the LORD’s temple to burn incense on the altar of incense.
17Azariah the priest went in after him, and with him eighty priests of the LORD, who were valiant men.
18They resisted Uzziah the king, and said to him, “It isn’t for you, Uzziah, to burn incense to the LORD, but for the priests the sons of Aaron, who are consecrated to burn incense. Go out of the sanctuary, for you have trespassed. It will not be for your honor from the LORD God.”
19Then Uzziah was angry. He had a censer in his hand to burn incense, and while he was angry with the priests, the leprosy broke out on his forehead before the priests in the LORD’s house, beside the altar of incense.
20Azariah the chief priest and all the priests looked at him, and behold, he was leprous in his forehead; and they thrust him out quickly from there. Indeed, he himself also hurried to go out, because the LORD had struck him.
21Uzziah the king was a leper to the day of his death, and lived in a separate house, being a leper; for he was cut off from the LORD’s house. Jotham his son was over the king’s house, judging the people of the land.
