1Hierauf nahm das ganze Volk von Juda den Ussia, obgleich er erst sechzehn Jahre alt war, und machte ihn zum König als Nachfolger seines Vaters Amazja.
2Er befestigte Eloth, das er an Juda zurückgebracht hatte, nachdem der König sich zu seinen Vätern gelegt hatte.
3Im Alter von sechzehn Jahren bestieg Ussia den Thron, und zweiundfünfzig Jahre regierte er in Jerusalem; seine Mutter hieß Jecholja und stammte aus Jerusalem.
4Er tat, was dem HERRN wohlgefiel, ganz wie sein Vater Amazja getan hatte.
5Er war darauf bedacht, sich an Gott zu halten, solange Sacharja lebte, der ihn zur Furcht Gottes anleitete; und solange er den HERRN suchte, gab Gott ihm Glück.
6Denn als er einen Feldzug gegen die Philister unternahm, riß er die Mauern der Städte Gath, Jabne und Asdod nieder und legte feste Plätze um Asdod her und im (übrigen) Philisterlande an.
7So half Gott ihm im Kampf gegen die Philister und ebenso gegen die Araber, die in Gur-Baal wohnten, und gegen die Mehuniter.
8Auch die Ammoniter mußten Ussia Abgaben entrichten, und sein Ruhm verbreitete sich bis nach Ägypten hin; denn er war überaus mächtig geworden.
9Auch baute Ussia in Jerusalem Türme am Ecktor, am Taltor und am Winkel und befestigte sie.
10Weiter ließ er in der Steppe Türme erbauen und zahlreiche Zisternen anlegen; denn er besaß große Viehherden sowohl in der Niederung als auch in der Ebene, dazu Ackerleute und Weingärtner im Gebirge und im Gefilde; denn er war ein Freund der Landwirtschaft.
11Ussia hatte aber auch ein kriegstüchtiges Heer, das, in Scharen gegliedert, zu Felde zog, soviele ihrer durch den Schreiber Jehiel und den Amtmann Maaseja unter der Aufsicht Hananjas, eines der Heerführer des Königs, gemustert worden waren.
12Die Gesamtzahl der Familienhäupter der kriegstüchtigen Mannschaft betrug 2600,
13unter deren Befehl eine Heeresmacht von 307500 kriegstüchtigen, vollkräftigen Männern stand, die dem König gegen die Feinde zu Gebote standen.
14Für dieses ganze Heer beschaffte Ussia Schilde, Lanzen, Helme, Panzer, Bogen und Schleudersteine.
15Auch ließ er in Jerusalem kunstvoll gebaute Maschinen anfertigen, die auf den Türmen und Zinnen aufgestellt werden sollten, um mit ihnen Pfeile und große Steine zu schleudern. So drang sein Ruhm in weite Ferne; denn er erlangte wunderbare Erfolge, bis er (überaus) mächtig geworden war.
16Als er aber zu Macht gelangt war, überhob sich sein Sinn zu gottlosem Handeln, so daß er sich gegen den HERRN, seinen Gott, versündigte, indem er in den Tempel des HERRN ging, um auf dem Räucheraltar Rauchopfer darzubringen.
17Da kam der Priester Asarja hinter ihm her, begleitet von achtzig Priestern des HERRN, vortrefflichen Männern;
18die traten dem König Ussia mit den Worten entgegen: »Nicht dir, Ussia, steht das Recht zu, dem HERRN Rauchopfer darzubringen, sondern nur den Priestern, den Nachkommen Aarons, die zu diesem Dienst geweiht sind. Verlaß das Heiligtum, denn du hast dich vergangen, und das bringt dir vor Gott, dem HERRN, keine Ehre!«
19Da geriet Ussia in Zorn, während er noch das Räucherfaß in der Hand hielt, um zu räuchern; als er aber seinen Zorn gegen die Priester ausließ, kam der Aussatz an seiner Stirn vor den Augen der Priester im Tempel des HERRN neben dem Räucheraltar zum Ausbruch.
20Als sich nun der Oberpriester Asarja und alle Priester zu ihm hinwandten, da war er in der Tat an der Stirn vom Aussatz befallen. Da brachten sie ihn schleunigst von dort weg, und auch er selbst beeilte sich hinauszukommen, weil der HERR ihn geschlagen hatte.
21So war denn der König Ussia aussätzig bis zu seinem Todestage und wohnte als Aussätziger in einem Hause für sich; denn er war vom Tempel des HERRN ausgeschlossen. Jotham aber, sein Sohn, waltete im königlichen Hause als Familienhaupt und versah die Regierungsgeschäfte für das Land.
22Die übrige Geschichte Ussias aber, von Anfang bis zu Ende, hat der Prophet Jesaja, der Sohn des Amoz, geschrieben.
23Als Ussia sich dann zu seinen Vätern gelegt hatte, begrub man ihn bei seinen Vätern auf dem (freien) Felde bei der Begräbnisstätte der Könige; denn man sagte: »Er ist aussätzig!« Sein Sohn Jotham folgte ihm in der Regierung nach.

1ENTONCES todo el pueblo de Judá tomó á Uzzías, el cual era de diez y seis años, y pusiéronlo por rey en lugar de Amasías su padre.
2Edificó él á Eloth, y la restituyó á Judá después que el rey durmió con sus padres.
3De diez y seis años era Uzzías cuando comenzó á reinar, y cincuenta y dos años reinó en Jerusalem. El nombre de su madre fué Jechôlía, de Jerusalem.
4E hizo lo recto en los ojos de Jehová, conforme á todas las cosas que había hecho Amasías su padre.
5Y persistió en buscar á Dios en los días de Zachârías, entendido en visiones de Dios; y en estos días que él buscó á Jehová, él le prosperó.
6Y salió, y peleó contra los Filisteos, y rompió el muro de Gath, y el muro de Jabnia, y el muro de Asdod; y edificó ciudades en Asdod, y en la tierra de los Filisteos.
7Y dióle Dios ayuda contra los Filisteos, y contra los Arabes que habitaban en Gur-baal, y contra los Ammonitas.
8Y dieron los Ammonitas presentes á Uzzías, y divulgóse su nombre hasta la entrada de Egipto; porque se había hecho altamente poderoso.
9Edificó también Uzzías torres en Jerusalem, junto á la puerta del ángulo, y junto á la puerta del valle, y junto á las esquinas; y fortificólas.
10Asimismo edificó torres en el desierto, y abrió muchas cisternas: porque tuvo muchos ganados, así en los valles como en las vegas; y viñas, y labranzas, así en los montes como en los llanos fértiles; porque era amigo de la agricultura.
11Tuvo también Uzzías escuadrones de guerreros, los cuales salían á la guerra en ejército, según que estaban por lista hecha por mano de Jehiel escriba y de Maasías gobernador, y por mano de Hananías, uno de los príncipes del rey.
12Todo el número de los jefes de familias, valientes y esforzados, era dos mil y seiscientos.
13Y bajo la mano de éstos estaba el ejército de guerra, de trescientos siete mil y quinientos guerreros poderosos y fuertes para ayudar al rey contra los enemigos.
14Y aprestóles Uzzías para todo el ejército, escudos, lanzas, almetes, coseletes, arcos, y hondas de tirar piedras.
15E hizo en Jerusalem máquinas por industria de ingenieros, para que estuviesen en las torres y en los baluartes, para arrojar saetas y grandes piedras, y su fama se extendió lejos, porque se ayudó maravillosamente, hasta hacerse fuerte.
16Mas cuando fué fortificado, su corazón se enalteció hasta corromperse; porque se rebeló contra Jehová su Dios, entrando en el templo de Jehová para quemar sahumerios en el altar del perfume.
17Y entró tras él el sacerdote Azarías, y con él ochenta sacerdotes de Jehová, de los valientes.
18Y pusiéronse contra el rey Uzzías, y dijéronle: No á ti, oh Uzzías, el quemar perfume á Jehová, sino á los sacerdotes hijos de Aarón, que son consagrados para quemarlo: sal del santuario, por que has prevaricado, y no te será para gloria delante del Dios Jehová.
19Y airóse Uzzías, que tenía el perfume en la mano para quemarlo; y en esta su ira contra los sacerdotes, la lepra le salió en la frente delante de los sacerdotes en la casa de Jehová, junto al altar del perfume.
20Y miróle Azarías el sumo sacerdote, y todos los sacerdotes, y he aquí la lepra estaba en su frente; é hiciéronle salir apriesa de aquel lugar; y él también se dió priesa á salir, porque Jehová lo había herido.
21Así el rey Uzzías fué leproso hasta el día de su muerte, y habitó en una casa apartada, leproso, por lo que había sido separado de la casa de Jehová; y Joatham su hijo tuvo cargo de la casa real, gobernando al pueblo de la tierra.
22Lo demás de los hechos de Uzzías, primeros y postreros, escribiólo Isaías profeta, hijo de Amós.
23Y durmió Uzzías con sus padres, y sepultáronlo con sus padres en el campo de los sepulcros reales; porque dijeron: Leproso es. Y reinó Joatham su hijo en lugar suyo.

1Then all the people of Judah took Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in the room of his father Amaziah.
2He built Eloth, and restored it to Judah, after that the king slept with his fathers.
3Sixteen years old was Uzziah when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty and two years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also was Jecoliah of Jerusalem.
4And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father Amaziah did.
5And he sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God: and as long as he sought the LORD, God made him to prosper.
6And he went forth and warred against the Philistines, and brake down the wall of Gath, and the wall of Jabneh, and the wall of Ashdod, and built cities about Ashdod, and among the Philistines.
7And God helped him against the Philistines, and against the Arabians that dwelt in Gur-baal, and the Mehunims.
8And the Ammonites gave gifts to Uzziah: and his name spread abroad even to the entering in of Egypt; for he strengthened himself exceedingly.
9Moreover Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at the corner gate, and at the valley gate, and at the turning of the wall, and fortified them.
10Also he built towers in the desert, and digged many wells: for he had much cattle, both in the low country, and in the plains: husbandmen also, and vine dressers in the mountains, and in Carmel: for he loved husbandry.
11Moreover Uzziah had an host of fighting men, that went out to war by bands, according to the number of their account by the hand of Jeiel the scribe and Maaseiah the ruler, under the hand of Hananiah, one of the king’s captains.
12The whole number of the chief of the fathers of the mighty men of valour were two thousand and six hundred.
13And under their hand was an army, three hundred thousand and seven thousand and five hundred, that made war with mighty power, to help the king against the enemy.
14And Uzziah prepared for them throughout all the host shields, and spears, and helmets, and habergeons, and bows, and slings to cast stones.
15And he made in Jerusalem engines, invented by cunning men, to be on the towers and upon the bulwarks, to shoot arrows and great stones withal. And his name spread far abroad; for he was marvellously helped, till he was strong.
16But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction: for he transgressed against the LORD his God, and went into the temple of the LORD to burn incense upon the altar of incense.
17And Azariah the priest went in after him, and with him fourscore priests of the LORD, that were valiant men:
18And they withstood Uzziah the king, and said unto him, It appertaineth not unto thee, Uzziah, to burn incense unto the LORD, but to the priests the sons of Aaron, that are consecrated to burn incense: go out of the sanctuary; for thou hast trespassed; neither shall it be for thine honour from the LORD God.
19Then Uzziah was wroth, and had a censer in his hand to burn incense: and while he was wroth with the priests, the leprosy even rose up in his forehead before the priests in the house of the LORD, from beside the incense altar.
20And Azariah the chief priest, and all the priests, looked upon him, and, behold, he was leprous in his forehead, and they thrust him out from thence; yea, himself hasted also to go out, because the LORD had smitten him.
21And Uzziah the king was a leper unto the day of his death, and dwelt in a several house, being a leper; for he was cut off from the house of the LORD: and Jotham his son was over the king’s house, judging the people of the land.
22Now the rest of the acts of Uzziah, first and last, did Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, write.
23So Uzziah slept with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the field of the burial which belonged to the kings; for they said, He is a leper: and Jotham his son reigned in his stead.

13Under their hand was an army, three hundred seven thousand five hundred, who made war with mighty power, to help the king against the enemy.
14Uzziah prepared for them, even for all the army, shields, spears, helmets, coats of mail, bows, and stones for slinging.
15In Jerusalem, he made devices, invented by skillful men, to be on the towers and on the battlements, with which to shoot arrows and great stones. His name spread far abroad, because he was marvelously helped until he was strong.
16But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up, so that he did corruptly and he trespassed against the LORD his God, for he went into the LORD’s temple to burn incense on the altar of incense.
17Azariah the priest went in after him, and with him eighty priests of the LORD, who were valiant men.
18They resisted Uzziah the king, and said to him, “It isn’t for you, Uzziah, to burn incense to the LORD, but for the priests the sons of Aaron, who are consecrated to burn incense. Go out of the sanctuary, for you have trespassed. It will not be for your honor from the LORD God.”
19Then Uzziah was angry. He had a censer in his hand to burn incense, and while he was angry with the priests, the leprosy broke out on his forehead before the priests in the LORD’s house, beside the altar of incense.
20Azariah the chief priest and all the priests looked at him, and behold, he was leprous in his forehead; and they thrust him out quickly from there. Indeed, he himself also hurried to go out, because the LORD had struck him.
21Uzziah the king was a leper to the day of his death, and lived in a separate house, being a leper; for he was cut off from the LORD’s house. Jotham his son was over the king’s house, judging the people of the land.
