1Amasias avait vingt-cinq ans lorsqu'il monta sur le trône, et il régna vingt-neuf ans à Jérusalem ; sa mère s'appelait Joadan de Jérusalem.
2Et il fit ce qui est droit devant' Dieu, mais non avec plénitude de cœur.
3Lorsqu'il eut affermi sa royauté, il fit mettre à mort les serviteurs qui avaient tué le roi, son père.
4Mais il ne fit pas périr leurs fils, se conformant à l'alliance de la loi du Seigneur. Car il est écrit, et tel est le commandement de Dieu : Les pères ne mourront pas à cause de leurs enfants, et les fils ne mourront pas à cause de leurs pères ; mais chacun portera la peine de son péché.
5Ensuite, Amasias assembla la maison de Juda, et il les mit par familles paternelles sous des chefs de mille hommes et des centeniers, en Juda et en Jérusalem ; il fit le dénombrement du peuple depuis vingt ans et au-dessus, et il trouva trois cent mille hommes capables de faire la guerre, sachant manier la javeline et le bouclier.
6Il enrôla de plus cent mille hommes d'Israël, vaillants et robustes, au prix de cent talents d'argent.
7Mais un homme de Dieu vint le trouver, disant : Roi, n'emmène pas avec toi les troupes d'Israël, car le Seigneur n'est point avec Israël, ni avec aucun des fils d'Ephraïm.
8Si tu les prends pour te renforcer, le Seigneur te mettra en fuite devant tes ennemis ; car il appartient au Seigneur de renforcer une armée ou de la mettre en fuites.
9Alors, Amasias dit à l'homme de Dieu : Que deviendront les cent talents d'argent que j'ai donnés aux troupes d'Israël ? Et l'homme de Dieu répondit : Il ne tient qu'au Seigneur de t'en rendre beaucoup plus.
10Et Amasias éloigna l'armée qui était venue près de lui d'Ephraïm, pour que chacun retournât en sa demeure. Et ils se courroucèrent vivement contre Juda, et ils s'en allèrent chez eux la colère dans l'âme.
11Et Amasias se fortifia, et il prit son peuple, et il alla dans le val des Sels, et il tailla en pièces dix mille des fils de Seïr.
12Et les fils de Juda firent, en outre, dix mille prisonniers ; ils les transportèrent sur la cime du précipice, et ils les jetèrent au bas des rochers, et ces hommes furent déchirés.
13Et les hommes de l'armée qu'Amasias avait congédiés, pour qu'ils n'allassent pas en guerre avec lui, attaquèrent les villes de Juda, depuis Samarie jusqu'à Béthoron, et ils y tuèrent trois mille hommes, et ils y firent un riche butin.
14Or, après qu'Amasias revint ayant vaincu l'Idumée, il en rapporta les dieux des fils de Séir, et il les tint pour des dieux véritables, et il se prosterna devant eux, et il leur fit des sacrifices.
15Et la colère du Seigneur s'enflamma centre Amasias, et il lui envoya le prophète, qui lui dit : Pourquoi as-tu cherché les dieux d'un peuple qu'ils n'ont pu délivrer de tes mains ?
16Et, pendant que le prophète parlait encore, Amasias dit : Est-ce que je t'ai fait conseiller du roi ? Contiens-toi, si tu ne veux être fustigé. Et le prophète garda le silence, et il se dit : Je sais que le Seigneur a résolu de te détruire, parce que tu as fais cette chose, et que tu refuses d'écouter mes conseils.
17Ensuite, Amasias, roi de Juda, délibéra, et il envoya dire à Joas, fils de Joachaz, fils de Jéhu, roi d'Israël : Viens, que nous nous voyions face à face.
18Et Joas, roi d'Israël, envoya dire à Amasias : Le chardon du Liban envoya dire au cèdre du Liban : Donne en mariage ta fille à mon fils ; mais voilà que les bêtes fauves des campagnes, qui sont dans le Liban, allaient venir, et les bêtes fauves vinrent, et elles foulèrent aux pieds le chardon.
19Or, tu as dit : Voilà que j'ai vaincu l'Idumée. Et ton cœur impérieux s'est enorgueilli ; reste donc en repos dans ta maison ; car, pourquoi te mettre aux prises avec le malheur ? Tu tomberas, et Juda avec toi.
20Mais Amasias ne l'écouta pas, car le Seigneur avait dessein de le livrer aux mains de Joas, parce qu'il avait cherché les dieux d'Edom.
21Joas, roi d'Israël, partit donc, et les deux rois se virent l'un l'autre à Bethsamys en Judée.
22Et Juda tourna le dos devant Israël, et chacun s'enfuit en sa demeure.
23Et Joas fit Amasias prisonnier, et il le ramena à Jérusalem ; et il abattit un pan des remparts, long de quatre cents coudées, depuis la porte d'Ephraïm jusqu'à la porte de l'angle.
24Et il prit l'argent, l'or, tous les ornements qu'il trouva dans le temple du Seigneur, ce qui provenait d'Abdedom, les trésors du palais du roi, des otages, et il retourna dans Samarie.
25Amasias, fils de Joas, roi de Juda, vécut encore quinze ans après la mort de Joas, fils de Joachaz, roi d'Israël.
26Les restes des actes d'Amasias, les premiers et les derniers, ne sont-ils pas écrits au livre des Rois de Juda ?
27Dans le temps où Amasias s'était éloigné du Seigneur, un complot éclata contre lui, et il s'enfuit de Jérusalem à Lachis ; mais les révoltés envoyèrent à sa poursuite, et, en cette ville, ils le tuèrent.
28Et ils l'enlevèrent sur un char, et ils l'ensevelirent auprès de ses pères dans la ville de David.

1DE VEINTICINCO años era Amasías cuando comenzó á reinar, y veintinueve años reinó en Jerusalem: el nombre de su madre fué Joaddan, de Jerusalem.
2Hizo él lo recto en los ojos de Jehová aunque no de perfecto corazón.
3Y luego que fué confirmado en el reino, mató á sus siervos que habían muerto al rey su padre;
4Mas no mató á los hijos de ellos, según lo que está escrito en la ley en el libro de Moisés, donde Jehová mandó, diciendo: No morirán los padres por los hijos, ni los hijos por los padres; mas cada uno morirá por su pecado.
5Juntó luego Amasías á Judá, y con arreglo á las familias púsoles tribunos y centuriones por todo Judá y Benjamín; y tomólos por lista de veinte años arriba, y fueron hallados en ellos trescientos mil escogidos para salir á la guerra, que tenían lanza y escudo.
6Y de Israel tomó á sueldo cien mil hombres valientes, por cien talentos de plata.
7Mas un varón de Dios vino á él, diciéndole: Rey, no vaya contigo el ejército de Israel; porque Jehová no es con Israel, ni con todos los hijos de Ephraim.
8Pero si tú vas, si lo haces, y te esfuerzas para pelear, Dios te hará caer delante de los enemigos; porque en Dios está la fortaleza, ó para ayudar, ó para derribar.
9Y Amasías dijo al varón de Dios: ¿Qué pues se hará de cien talentos que he dado al ejército de Israel? Y el varón de Dios respondió: De Jehová es darte mucho más que esto.
10Entonces Amasías apartó el escuadrón de la gente que había venido á él de Ephraim, para que se fuesen á sus casas: y ellos se enojaron grandemente contra Judá, y volviéronse á sus casas encolerizados.
11Esforzándose entonces Amasías, sacó su pueblo, y vino al valle de la Sal: é hirió de los hijos de Seir diez mil.
12Y los hijos de Judá tomaron vivos otros diez mil, los cuales llevaron á la cumbre de un peñasco, y de allí los despeñaron, y todos se hicieron pedazos.
13Empero los del escuadrón que Amasías había despedido, porque no fuesen con él á la guerra, derramáronse sobre las ciudades de Judá, desde Samaria hasta Beth-oron, é hirieron de ellos tres mil, y tomaron un grande despojo.
14Regresando luego Amasías de la matanza de los Idumeos, trajo también consigo los dioses de los hijos de Seir, y púsoselos para sí por dioses, y encorvóse delante de ellos, y quemóles perfumes.
15Encendióse por tanto el furor de Jehová contra Amasías, y envió á él un profeta, que le dijo: ¿Por qué has buscado los dioses de gente, que no libraron á su pueblo de tus manos?
16Y hablándole el profeta estas cosas, él le respondió: ¿Hante puesto á ti por consejero del rey? Déjate de eso: ¿por qué quieres que te maten? Y al cesar, el profeta dijo luego: Yo sé que Dios ha acordado destruirte, porque has hecho esto, y no obedeciste á mi consejo.
17Y Amasías rey de Judá, habido su consejo, envió á decir á Joas, hijo de Joachâz hijo de Jehú, rey de Israel: Ven, y veámonos cara á cara.
18Entonces Joas rey de Israel envió á decir á Amasías rey de Judá: El cardo que estaba en el Líbano, envió al cedro que estaba en el Líbano, diciendo: Da tu hija á mi hijo por mujer. Y he aquí que las bestias fieras que estaban en el Líbano, pasaron, y hollaron el cardo.
19Tú dices: He aquí he herido á Edom; y tu corazón se enaltece para gloriarte: ahora estáte en tu casa; ¿para qué te entrometes en mal, para caer tú y Judá contigo?
20Mas Amasías no quiso oir; porque estaba de Dios, que los quería entregar en manos de sus enemigos, por cuanto habían buscado los dioses de Edom.
21Subió pues Joas rey de Israel, y viéronse cara á cara él y Amasías rey de Judá, en Beth-semes, la cual es de Judá.
22Pero cayó Judá delante de Israel, y huyó cada uno á su estancia.
23Y Joas rey de Israel prendió en Beth-semes á Amasías rey de Judá, hijo de Joas hijo de Joachâz, y llevólo á Jerusalem: y derribó el muro de Jerusalem desde la puerta de Ephraim hasta la puerta del ángulo, cuatrocientos codos.
24Asimismo tomó todo el oro y plata, y todos los vasos que se hallaron en la casa de Dios en casa de Obed-edom, y los tesoros de la casa del rey, y los hijos de los príncipes, y volvióse á Samaria.
25Y vivió Amasías hijo de Joas, rey de Judá, quince años después de la muerte de Joas hijo de Joachâz rey de Israel.
26Lo demás de los hechos de Amasías, primeros y postreros, ¿no está escrito en el libro de los reyes de Judá y de Israel?
27Desde aquel tiempo que Amasías se apartó de Jehová, maquinaron contra él conjuración en Jerusalem; y habiendo él huído á Lachîs, enviaron tras él á Lachîs, y allá lo mataron;
28Y trajéronlo en caballos, y sepultáronlo con sus padres en la ciudad de Judá.

1Amaziah was twenty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem.
2And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, but not with a perfect heart.
3Now it came to pass, when the kingdom was established to him, that he slew his servants that had killed the king his father.
4But he slew not their children, but did as it is written in the law in the book of Moses, where the LORD commanded, saying, The fathers shall not die for the children, neither shall the children die for the fathers, but every man shall die for his own sin.
5Moreover Amaziah gathered Judah together, and made them captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, according to the houses of their fathers, throughout all Judah and Benjamin: and he numbered them from twenty years old and above, and found them three hundred thousand choice men, able to go forth to war, that could handle spear and shield.
6He hired also an hundred thousand mighty men of valour out of Israel for an hundred talents of silver.
7But there came a man of God to him, saying, O king, let not the army of Israel go with thee; for the LORD is not with Israel, to wit, with all the children of Ephraim.
8But if thou wilt go, do it, be strong for the battle: God shall make thee fall before the enemy: for God hath power to help, and to cast down.
9And Amaziah said to the man of God, But what shall we do for the hundred talents which I have given to the army of Israel? And the man of God answered, The LORD is able to give thee much more than this.
10Then Amaziah separated them, to wit, the army that was come to him out of Ephraim, to go home again: wherefore their anger was greatly kindled against Judah, and they returned home in great anger.
11And Amaziah strengthened himself, and led forth his people, and went to the valley of salt, and smote of the children of Seir ten thousand.
12And other ten thousand left alive did the children of Judah carry away captive, and brought them unto the top of the rock, and cast them down from the top of the rock, that they all were broken in pieces.
13But the soldiers of the army which Amaziah sent back, that they should not go with him to battle, fell upon the cities of Judah, from Samaria even unto Beth-horon, and smote three thousand of them, and took much spoil.
14Now it came to pass, after that Amaziah was come from the slaughter of the Edomites, that he brought the gods of the children of Seir, and set them up to be his gods, and bowed down himself before them, and burned incense unto them.
15Wherefore the anger of the LORD was kindled against Amaziah, and he sent unto him a prophet, which said unto him, Why hast thou sought after the gods of the people, which could not deliver their own people out of thine hand?
16And it came to pass, as he talked with him, that the king said unto him, Art thou made of the king’s counsel? forbear; why shouldest thou be smitten? Then the prophet forbare, and said, I know that God hath determined to destroy thee, because thou hast done this, and hast not hearkened unto my counsel.
17Then Amaziah king of Judah took advice, and sent to Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us see one another in the face.
18And Joash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son to wife: and there passed by a wild beast that was in Lebanon, and trode down the thistle.
19Thou sayest, Lo, thou hast smitten the Edomites; and thine heart lifteth thee up to boast: abide now at home; why shouldest thou meddle to thine hurt, that thou shouldest fall, even thou, and Judah with thee?
20But Amaziah would not hear; for it came of God, that he might deliver them into the hand of their enemies, because they sought after the gods of Edom.
21So Joash the king of Israel went up; and they saw one another in the face, both he and Amaziah king of Judah, at Beth-shemesh, which belongeth to Judah.
22And Judah was put to the worse before Israel, and they fled every man to his tent.
23And Joash the king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, at Beth-shemesh, and brought him to Jerusalem, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim to the corner gate, four hundred cubits.
24And he took all the gold and the silver, and all the vessels that were found in the house of God with Obed-edom, and the treasures of the king’s house, the hostages also, and returned to Samaria.
25And Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah lived after the death of Joash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years.
26Now the rest of the acts of Amaziah, first and last, behold, are they not written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel?
27Now after the time that Amaziah did turn away from following the LORD they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem; and he fled to Lachish: but they sent to Lachish after him, and slew him there.
28And they brought him upon horses, and buried him with his fathers in the city of Judah.

11Amaziah took courage, and led his people out and went to the Valley of Salt, and struck ten thousand of the children of Seir.
12The children of Judah carried away ten thousand alive, and brought them to the top of the rock, and threw them down from the top of the rock, so that they all were broken in pieces.
13But the men of the army whom Amaziah sent back, that they should not go with him to battle, fell on the cities of Judah from Samaria even to Beth Horon, and struck of them three thousand, and took much plunder.
14Now after Amaziah had come from the slaughter of the Edomites, he brought the gods of the children of Seir, and set them up to be his gods, and bowed down himself before them and burned incense to them.
15Therefore the LORD’s anger burned against Amaziah, and he sent to him a prophet who said to him, “Why have you sought after the gods of the people, which have not delivered their own people out of your hand?”
16As he talked with him, the king said to him, “Have we made you one of the king’s counselors? Stop! Why should you be struck down?” Then the prophet stopped, and said, “I know that God has determined to destroy you, because you have done this and have not listened to my counsel.”
17Then Amaziah king of Judah consulted his advisers, and sent to Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, “Come! Let’s look one another in the face.”
18Joash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, “The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, ‘Give your daughter to my son as his wife. Then a wild animal that was in Lebanon passed by and trampled down the thistle.
19You say to yourself that you have struck Edom; and your heart lifts you up to boast. Now stay at home. Why should you meddle with trouble, that you should fall, even you and Judah with you?’”
20But Amaziah would not listen; for it was of God, that he might deliver them into the hand of their enemies, because they had sought after the gods of Edom.
21So Joash king of Israel went up, and he and Amaziah king of Judah looked one another in the face at Beth Shemesh, which belongs to Judah.
22Judah was defeated by Israel; so every man fled to his tent.
23Joash king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Joash the son of Jehoahaz, at Beth Shemesh and brought him to Jerusalem, and broke down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim to the corner gate, four hundred cubits.
