Dopo queste cose si raunarono i figliuoli di Moab, e i figliuoli di Ammon, e con essi erano degli Ammoniti per muover guerra contro Josaphat.

PASADAS estas cosas, aconteció que los hijos de Moab y de Ammón, y con ellos otros de los Ammonitas, vinieron contra Josaphat á la guerra.

It came to pass after this also, that the children of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and with them other beside the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle.

E furono spediti messi a dire a Josaphat: Una gran turba di gente si è mossa contro di te da paesi di là dal mare, e dalla Siria; ed ora sono a campo in Asason-thamar, che è Engaddi.

Y acudieron, y dieron aviso á Josaphat, diciendo: Contra ti viene una grande multitud de la otra parte de la mar, y de la Siria; y he aquí ellos están en Hasasón-tamar, que es Engedi.

Then there came some that told Jehoshaphat, saying, There cometh a great multitude against thee from beyond the sea on this side Syria; and, behold, they be in Hazazon-tamar, which is En-gedi.

E Josaphat pieno di spavento si rivolse tutto a pregare il Signore, e intimò il digiuno a tutto il popolo di Giuda.

Non se' tu quegli, o Signor nostro, che uccidesti tutti gli abitanti di questa terra all'arrivo d'Israele tuo popolo, e la assegnasti alla stirpe d'Abramo amico tuo in perpetuo?

Dios nuestro, ¿no echaste tú los moradores de aquesta tierra delante de tu pueblo Israel, y la diste á la simiente de Abraham tu amigo para siempre?

Art not thou our God, who didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever?

E la hanno abitata, e ci hanno eretto un Santuario al nome tuo, e han detto:

Se verranno sciagure sopra di noi, spada vendicatrice, o pestilenza, o carestia, noi ci presenteremo al tuo cospetto dinanzi a questa casa, la quale porta il tuo nome: e nelle nostre tribolazioni alzeremo le grida a te, e tu ci esaudirai, e ci salverai.

Si mal viniere sobre nosotros, ó espada de castigo, ó pestilencia, ó hambre, presentarnos hemos delante de esta casa, y delante de ti, (porque tu nombre está en esta casa,) y de nuestras tribulaciones clamaremos á ti, y tú nos oirás y salvarás.

If, when evil cometh upon us, as the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in thy presence, (for thy name is in this house,) and cry unto thee in our affliction, then thou wilt hear and help.

‘If evil comes on us—the sword, judgment, pestilence, or famine—we will stand before this house, and before you (for your name is in this house), and cry to you in our affliction, and you will hear and save.’

Ecco adunque che adesso i figliuolini di Ammon, e di Moab, e le montagne di Seir, sulle terre de' quali non permettesti, che passasse Israele, quando usciva dall'Egitto, ed egli lasciolli da parte, e non gli uccise;

E tutto Giuda era dinanzi al Signore co' piccoli bambini, e colle mogli e co' figliuoli.

Ed egli disse: Ponete mente tu, o Giuda, e voi, abitanti di Gerusalemme, e tu, re Josaphat: Queste cose dice a voi il Signore: Non vi spaurite, e non temete quella moltitudine: perocché non è vostra la pugna, ma di Dio.

Y dijo: Oid, Judá todo, y vosotros moradores de Jerusalem, y tú, rey Josaphat. Jehová os dice así: No temáis ni os amedrentéis delante de esta tan grande multitud; porque no es vuestra la guerra, sino de Dios.

And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.

and he said, “Listen, all Judah, and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you, King Jehoshaphat. The LORD says to you, ‘Don’t be afraid, and don’t be dismayed because of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.

Domane andrete contro di essi: perocchè saliranno al colle chiamato Sis, e li troverete all'estremità del torrente, che corre dirimpetto al deserto di Jeruel.

Mañana descenderéis contra ellos: he aquí que ellos subirán por la cuesta de Sis, y los hallaréis junto al arroyo, antes del desierto de Jeruel.

A voi non toccherà il combattere, ma solo tenetevi fermi con fidanza, e vedrete il soccorso, che darà il Signore a voi, o Giuda, e o Gerusalemme: non vi spaurite, non temete: domani vi moverete contro di loro, e il Signore sarà con voi.

Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you.

Allora Josaphat, e tutto Giuda, e tutti gli abitanti di Gerusalemme si prostraron bocconi per terra dinanzi al Signore, e lo adorarono.

Entonces Josaphat se inclinó rostro por tierra, y asimismo todo Judá y los moradores de Jerusalem se postraron delante de Jehová, y adoraron á Jehová.

E la mattina seguente si mossero, e s'incamminarono pel deserto di Thecue: e mentre erano per istrada, Josaphat stando in piedi in mezzo di loro, disse: Udite me, uomini di Giuda, e abitanti di Gerusalemme: credete al Signore Dio vostro, e sarete senza timori: credete ai profeti di lui, e tutto anderà felicemente.

E diede i suoi avvertimenti al popolo, e scelse dei cantori del Signore, i quali divisi in ischiere cantassero le sue lodi, e precedessero l'esercito, e tutti a una voce dicessero: Date lode al Signore, perchè la sua misericordia è eterna.

Y habido consejo con el pueblo, puso á algunos que cantasen á Jehová, y alabasen en la hermosura de la santidad, mientras que salía la gente armada, y dijesen: Glorificad á Jehová, porque su misericordia es para siempre.

And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth for ever.

E quand'eglino ebber dato principio al canto, il Signore rivolse contro di lor medesimi gli stratagemmi de' nemici, viene a dire de' figliuoli di Ammon, e di Moab, e di quelli del monte Seir, che erano andati per combattere contro Giuda, e rimasero sconfitti.

Y como comenzaron con clamor y con alabanza, puso Jehová contra los hijos de Ammón, de Moab, y del monte de Seir, las emboscadas de ellos mismos que venían contra Judá, y matáronse los unos á los otros:

E Giuda arrivato che fu alla vedetta che guarda il deserto, vide da lungi tutta la regione, quant'era spaziosa, piena di cadaveri, e non essere rimaso alcuno, che avesse fuggita la morte.

E imitò il padre suo Asa, né in veruna cosa tralignò da lui, facendo quello, che era accetto nel cospetto del Signore.

Ma Eliezer figliuolo di Dodau di Maresa profetizzò, e disse a Josaphat: Perchè tu hai fatto lega con Ochozia, il Signore ha rovinati i tuoi disegni. E le navi andarono in pezzi, e non poterono fare il viaggio di Tharsis. L'empio Joram figliuolo di Josaphat uccide i suoi fratelli, e alcuni principi d'Israele. Elia gli predice per lettera una pessima malattia, e la morte, e lo spogliamento di sua casa, e del regno; lo che poi avvenne.
