1Salomon, fils de David, s’affermit sur son trône; l’Eternel, son Dieu, était avec lui et l’éleva à un haut rang.
2Salomon s’adressa à tout Israël, aux chiliarques, aux centurions, aux juges, à tous les princes d’Israël, chefs des familles,
3et, accompagné de toute l’assemblée, il se rendit au haut lieu qui était à Gabaon; car là se trouvait la Tente d’assignation de Dieu, construite par Moïse, serviteur de l’Eternel, dans le désert.
4Toutefois l’arche de Dieu, David l’avait transférée de Kiryat-Yearim dans la résidence qu’il lui avait aménagée: il avait, en effet, dressé pour elle un pavillon à Jérusalem.
5Quant à l’autel de cuivre, qu’avait confectionné Beçalêl, fils d’Ouri, fils de Hour, on l’avait placé devant le Tabernacle du Seigneur; c’est lui, le Seigneur, que Salomon et l’assemblée allèrent rechercher.
6Là, sur cet autel de cuivre, placé devant le Seigneur et faisant partie de la Tente d’assignation, Salomon offrit mille holocaustes.
7Cette même nuit, Dieu apparut à Salomon et lui dit: "Demande: que dois-je te donner?"
8Salomon répondit à Dieu: "Tu as témoigné à mon père David une grande faveur, en me permettant de lui succéder.
9Et maintenant, Seigneur Dieu, que se vérifie la promesse faite à mon père David, puisque tu m’as fait régner sur un peuple nombreux comme le sable de la mer.
10Donne-moi donc de la sagesse et du discernement, afin que je puisse aller et venir à la tête de ce peuple; car autrement, qui pourrait gouverner un peuple aussi considérable que celui-ci?"
11Dieu répondit à Salomon: "Puisque telle a été l’inspiration de ton cœur, que tu n’as demandé ni des richesses, ni des trésors, ni des honneurs, ni la vie de tes ennemis, ni de longs jours, que tu as seulement demandé pour toi de la sagesse et du discernement pour gouverner mon peuple, sur lequel je t’ai fait régner,
12la sagesse et le discernement te sont accordés; et je te donnerai par surcroît des richesses, des trésors et de la gloire, tels que n’en ont eus les rois qui t’ont précédé et que n’en aura personne après toi."
13Puis, Salomon, s’éloignant du haut lieu de Gabaon, situé devant la Tente d’assignation, revint à Jérusalem et exerça sa royauté sur Israël.
14Salomon eut une collection de chars et de cavaliers, quatorze cents chars, douze mille cavaliers, les fit stationner dans les dépôts de chars et en garda près de lui à Jérusalem.
15Le roi rendit l’argent et l’or à Jérusalem aussi communs que les pierres, et les cèdres aussi nombreux que les sycomores dans la Plaine.
16C’était de l’Egypte que provenaient les chevaux de Salomon; un groupe de marchands, sujets du roi, les acquéraient en masse à prix d’argent.
17Tout attelage qu’ils exportaient et amenaient d’Egypte revenait à six cents pièces d’argent, et un cheval à cent cinquante. C’est dans les mêmes conditions qu’ils les exportaient personnellement pour tous les rois des Héthéens et pour les rois d’Aram.
18Salomon ordonna ensuite de construire un édifice en l’honneur de l’Eternel et un palais comme résidence royale.

1Y SALOMÓN hijo de David fué afirmado en su reino; y Jehová su Dios fué con él, y le engrandeció sobremanera.
2Y llamó Salomón á todo Israel, tribunos, centuriones, y jueces, y á todos los príncipes de todo Israel, cabezas de familias.
3Y fué Salomón, y con él toda esta junta, al alto que había en Gabaón; porque allí estaba el tabernáculo del testimonio de Dios, que Moisés siervo de Jehová había hecho en el desierto.
4Mas David había traído el arca de Dios de Chîriath-jearim al lugar que él le había preparado; porque él le había tendido una tienda en Jerusalem.
5Asimismo el altar de bronce que había hecho Bezaleel hijo de Uri hijo de Hur, estaba allí delante del tabernáculo de Jehová, al cual fué á consultar Salomón con aquella junta.
6Subió pues Salomón allá delante de Jehová, al altar de bronce que estaba en el tabernáculo del testimonio, y ofreció sobre él mil holocaustos.
7Y aquella noche apareció Dios á Salomón, y díjole: Demanda lo que quisieres que yo te dé.
8Y Salomón dijo á Dios: Tú has hecho con David mi padre grande misericordia, y á mí me has puesto por rey en lugar suyo.
9Confírmese pues ahora, oh Jehová Dios, tu palabra dada á David mi padre; porque tú me has puesto por rey sobre un pueblo en muchedumbre como el polvo de la tierra.
10Dame ahora sabiduría y ciencia, para salir y entrar delante de este pueblo: porque ¿quién podrá juzgar este tu pueblo tan grande?
11Y dijo Dios á Salomón: Por cuanto esto fué en tu corazón, que no pediste riquezas, hacienda, ó gloria, ni el alma de los que te quieren mal, ni pediste muchos días, sino que has pedido para ti sabiduría y ciencia para juzgar mi pueblo, sobre el cual te he puesto por rey,
12Sabiduría y ciencia te es dada; y también te daré riquezas, hacienda, y gloria, cual nunca hubo en los reyes que han sido antes de ti, ni después de ti habrá tal.
13Y volvió Salomón á Jerusalem del alto que estaba en Gabaón, de ante el tabernáculo del testimonio; y reinó sobre Israel.
14Y juntó Salomón carros y gente de á caballo; y tuvo mil y cuatrocientos carros, y doce mil jinetes, los cuales puso en las ciudades de los carros, y con el rey en Jerusalem.
15Y puso el rey plata y oro en Jerusalem como piedras, y cedro como cabrahigos que nacen en los campos en abundancia.
16Y sacaban caballos y lienzos finos de Egipto para Salomón; pues por contrato tomaban allí los mercaderes del rey caballos y lienzos.
17Y subían, y sacaban de Egipto, un carro por seiscientas piezas de plata, y un caballo por ciento y cincuenta: y así se sacaban por medio de ellos para todos los reyes de los Hetheos, y para los reyes de Siria.

1And Solomon the son of David was strengthened in his kingdom, and the LORD his God was with him, and magnified him exceedingly.
2Then Solomon spake unto all Israel, to the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and to the judges, and to every governor in all Israel, the chief of the fathers.
3So Solomon, and all the congregation with him, went to the high place that was at Gibeon; for there was the tabernacle of the congregation of God, which Moses the servant of the LORD had made in the wilderness.
4But the ark of God had David brought up from Kirjath-jearim to the place which David had prepared for it: for he had pitched a tent for it at Jerusalem.
5Moreover the brasen altar, that Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, had made, he put before the tabernacle of the LORD: and Solomon and the congregation sought unto it.
6And Solomon went up thither to the brasen altar before the LORD, which was at the tabernacle of the congregation, and offered a thousand burnt offerings upon it.
7In that night did God appear unto Solomon, and said unto him, Ask what I shall give thee.
8And Solomon said unto God, Thou hast shewed great mercy unto David my father, and hast made me to reign in his stead.
9Now, O LORD God, let thy promise unto David my father be established: for thou hast made me king over a people like the dust of the earth in multitude.
10Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people: for who can judge this thy people, that is so great?
11And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king:
12Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like.
13Then Solomon came from his journey to the high place that was at Gibeon to Jerusalem, from before the tabernacle of the congregation, and reigned over Israel.
14And Solomon gathered chariots and horsemen: and he had a thousand and four hundred chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen, which he placed in the chariot cities, and with the king at Jerusalem.
15And the king made silver and gold at Jerusalem as plenteous as stones, and cedar trees made he as the sycomore trees that are in the vale for abundance.
16And Solomon had horses brought out of Egypt, and linen yarn: the king’s merchants received the linen yarn at a price.
17And they fetched up, and brought forth out of Egypt a chariot for six hundred shekels of silver, and an horse for an hundred and fifty: and so brought they out horses for all the kings of the Hittites, and for the kings of Syria, by their means.

1Solomon the son of David was firmly established in his kingdom, and the LORD his God was with him, and made him exceedingly great.
2Solomon spoke to all Israel, to the captains of thousands and of hundreds, to the judges, and to every prince in all Israel, the heads of the fathers’ households.
3Then Solomon, and all the assembly with him, went to the high place that was at Gibeon; for God’s Tent of Meeting was there, which the LORD’s servant Moses had made in the wilderness.
4But David had brought God’s ark up from Kiriath Jearim to the place that David had prepared for it; for he had pitched a tent for it at Jerusalem.
5Moreover the bronze altar that Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, had made was there before the LORD’s tabernacle; and Solomon and the assembly were seeking counsel there.
6Solomon went up there to the bronze altar before the LORD, which was at the Tent of Meeting, and offered one thousand burnt offerings on it.
7That night, God appeared to Solomon and said to him, “Ask for what you want me to give you.”
8Solomon said to God, “You have shown great loving kindness to David my father, and have made me king in his place.
9Now, LORD God, let your promise to David my father be established; for you have made me king over a people like the dust of the earth in multitude.
10Now give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people; for who can judge this great people of yours?”
11God said to Solomon, “Because this was in your heart, and you have not asked riches, wealth, honor, or the life of those who hate you, nor yet have you asked for long life; but have asked for wisdom and knowledge for yourself, that you may judge my people, over whom I have made you king,
12therefore wisdom and knowledge is granted to you. I will give you riches, wealth, and honor, such as none of the kings have had who have been before you, and none after you will have.”
13So Solomon came from the high place that was at Gibeon, from before the Tent of Meeting, to Jerusalem; and he reigned over Israel.
14Solomon gathered chariots and horsemen. He had one thousand four hundred chariots and twelve thousand horsemen that he placed in the chariot cities, and with the king at Jerusalem.
15The king made silver and gold to be as common as stones in Jerusalem, and he made cedars to be as common as the sycamore trees that are in the lowland.
16The horses which Solomon had were brought out of Egypt and from Kue. The king’s merchants purchased them from Kue.
17They imported from Egypt then exported a chariot for six hundred pieces of silver and a horse for one hundred fifty. They also exported them to the Hittite kings and the Syrian kings.
