1Paulo, apóstolo de Jesus Cristo, enviado por Deus, nosso Salvador, e por Jesus Cristo, nossa única esperança,
2a Timóteo, meu verdadeiro filho na fé. Que Deus, nosso Pai, e Jesus Cristo, nosso Senhor, lhe mostrem a sua graça, misericórdia, e paz.
3Como lhe disse quando viajei para a Macedônia, espero que você fique aí em Éfeso, e procure impedir os homens que estão ensinando doutrinas falsas.
4Ponha fim aos mitos e fábulas deles, e à ideia que eles têm de valorizar genealogias, gerando questões e discussões em vez de ajudarem o povo a aceitar o plano de Deus, que é pela fé.
5O meu alvo é que todos os cristãos daí sejam cheios do amor que provém de um coração puro, e que suas mentes sejam limpas e a sua fé seja sincera.
6Mas esses mestres perderam essa ideia salutar e gastam seu tempo discutindo e falando tolices.
7Querem tornar-se famosos como mestres das leis, quando não têm a menor ideia do que tais leis realmente nos mostram.
8Sabemos que as leis são boas, quando utilizadas de acordo com a intenção divina;
9mas não foram feitas para nós, a quem Deus salvou; são para os pecadores que odeiam a Deus, que têm coração rebelde, que praguejam e blasfemam, que matam seus pais e suas mães e que cometem homicídio,
10para os que praticam a imoralidade sexual e os homossexuais, para os raptores, os mentirosos e todos os outros que fazem coisas que se opõem ao verdadeiro ensinamento.
11Esse verdadeiro ensinamento é o evangelho glorioso do nosso bendito Deus, de quem eu sou mensageiro.
12Sou muito grato a Cristo Jesus, nosso Senhor, por ter me escolhido para ser um de seus mensageiros, e por ter me dado forças para ser fiel a ele,
13embora eu costumasse zombar do nome de Cristo. Persegui o seu povo, causando-lhe todo o mal que podia. Mas Deus teve misericórdia de mim, porque eu não sabia o que estava fazendo, pois naquele tempo ainda não conhecia a Cristo.
14Como nosso Senhor foi bom, pois me mostrou como confiar nele e obter a plenitude do amor de Cristo Jesus!
15Esta afirmação é verdadeira, e como eu anseio que todo o mundo conheça isto: que Cristo Jesus veio ao mundo para salvar os pecadores — e eu sou o maior de todos!
16Mas Deus teve misericórdia de mim, de tal maneira que Cristo Jesus pôde usar-me como exemplo para mostrar a todos como ele é paciente até mesmo com o pior dos pecadores, a fim de que os outros compreendam que eles também podem crer e ter a vida eterna.
17Ao Rei eterno, o Deus único, imortal e invisível — a ele sejam dadas a honra e glória para todo o sempre. Amém.
18Agora, Timóteo, meu filho, esta é a minha instrução a você de acordo com as profecias já proferidas a seu respeito: Seja um bom combatente nas batalhas do Senhor.
19Mantenha-se firme na sua fé e conserve sempre a consciência limpa, fazendo aquilo que você sabe que está certo. Porque alguns desobedeceram à consciência e fizeram deliberadamente o que sabiam que estava errado e por isso perderam a fé em Cristo.
20Himeneu e Alexandre são dois exemplos disto. Tive que entregá-los a Satanás para serem castigados para aprenderem a não blasfemar mais.

1PABLO, apóstol de Jesucristo por la ordenación de Dios nuestro Salvador, y del Señor Jesucristo, nuestra esperanza;
2A Timoteo, verdadero hijo en la fe: Gracia, misericordia y paz de Dios nuestro Padre, y de Cristo Jesús nuestro Señor.
3Como te rogué que te quedases en Efeso, cuando partí para Macedonia, para que requirieses á algunos que no enseñen diversa doctrina,
4Ni presten atención á fábulas y genealogías sin término, que antes engendran cuestiones que la edificación de Dios que es por fe; así te encargo ahora.
5Pues el fin del mandamiento es la caridad nacida de corazón limpio, y de buena conciencia, y de fe no fingida:
6De lo cual distrayéndose algunos, se apartaron á vanas pláticas;
7Queriendo ser doctores de la ley, sin entender ni lo que hablan, ni lo que afirman.
8Sabemos empero que la ley es buena, si alguno usa de ella legítimamente;
9Conociendo esto, que la ley no es puesta para el justo, sino para los injustos y para los desobedientes, para los impíos y pecadores, para los malos y profanos, para los parricidas y matricidas, para los homicidas,
10Para los fornicarios, para los sodomitas, para los ladrones de hombres, para los mentirosos y perjuros, y si hay alguna otra cosa contraria á la sana doctrina;
11Según el evangelio de la gloria del Dios bendito, el cual á mí me ha sido encargado.
12Y doy gracias al que me fortificó, á Cristo Jesús nuestro Señor, de que me tuvo por fiel, poniéndome en el ministerio:
13Habiendo sido antes blasfemo y perseguidor é injuriador: mas fuí recibido á misericordia, porque lo hice con ignorancia en incredulidad.
14Mas la gracia de nuestro Señor fué más abundante con la fe y amor que es en Cristo Jesús.
15Palabra fiel y digna de ser recibida de todos: que Cristo Jesús vino al mundo para salvar á los pecadores, de los cuales yo soy el primero.
16Mas por esto fuí recibido á misericordia, para que Jesucristo mostrase en mí el primero toda su clemencia, para ejemplo de los que habían de creer en él para vida eterna.
17Por tanto, al Rey de siglos, inmortal, invisible, al solo sabio Dios sea honor y gloria por los siglos de los siglos. Amén.
18Este mandamiento, hijo Timoteo, te encargo, para que, conforme á las profecías pasadas de ti, milites por ellas buena milicia;
19Manteniendo la fe y buena conciencia, la cual echando de sí algunos, hicieron naufragio en la fe:
20De los cuales son Himeneo y Alejandro, los cuales entregué á Satanás, para que aprendan á no blasfemar.

1Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope;
2Unto Timothy, my own son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.
3As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine,
4Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.
5Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:
6From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling;
7Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm.
8But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully;
9Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,
10For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;
11According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.

19Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck:
20Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.

3As I urged you when I was going into Macedonia, stay at Ephesus that you might command certain men not to teach a different doctrine,
4and not to pay attention to myths and endless genealogies, which cause disputes rather than God’s stewardship, which is in faith.
5But the goal of this command is love from a pure heart, a good conscience, and sincere faith,
6from which things some, having missed the mark, have turned away to vain talking,
7desiring to be teachers of the law, though they understand neither what they say nor about what they strongly affirm.
8But we know that the law is good if a person uses it lawfully,
9as knowing this, that law is not made for a righteous person, but for the lawless and insubordinate, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,
10for the sexually immoral, for homosexuals, for slave-traders, for liars, for perjurers, and for any other thing contrary to the sound doctrine,
11according to the Good News of the glory of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.
12I thank him who enabled me, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he counted me faithful, appointing me to service,
13although I used to be a blasphemer, a persecutor, and insolent. However, I obtained mercy because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.
14The grace of our Lord abounded exceedingly with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.
15The saying is faithful and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.
