1Quando é que tudo isso vai acontecer? Eu não preciso realmente dizer nada a esse respeito, irmãos,
2porque vocês sabem muito bem que o dia do Senhor virá inesperadamente, como um ladrão de noite.
3Quando o povo estiver dizendo: “Vai tudo bem, está tudo calmo, está tudo em paz”, então, de repente, o desastre virá sobre eles, tão súbito como as dores de parto a uma mulher quando nasce o seu filho. E essa gente não poderá fugir para parte alguma — não haverá lugar onde se esconder.
4Porém vocês, irmãos, não estão na escuridão a respeito destas coisas e não serão surpreendidos, como por um ladrão.
5Porque todos vocês são filhos da luz e do dia e não pertencem à escuridão e à noite.
6Estejam vigilantes e não adormecidos, como os outros. Estejam atentos à volta do Senhor e permaneçam sóbrios.
7À noite é que as pessoas dormem; à noite se embriagam.
8Mas nós, que somos do dia, conservemo-nos sóbrios, protegidos com a couraça da fé e do amor e usando como nosso capacete a esperança da salvação.
9Porque Deus não nos escolheu para derramar a sua ira sobre nós, mas para nos salvar por meio de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo.
10Ele morreu por nós, para que possamos viver com ele para sempre, estejamos vivos ou mortos na hora da sua volta.
11Portanto, animem-se uns aos outros e edifiquem-se uns aos outros, tal como já estão fazendo.
12Agora, pedimos a vocês, irmãos, honrem aqueles que trabalham incansavelmente entre vocês, os que foram escolhidos pelo Senhor para guiá-los e aconselhá-los.
13Tenham grande consideração e respeito por eles, com amor, por causa do trabalho deles. Vivam em paz uns com os outros.
14Irmãos, admoestem aqueles que são preguiçosos ou rebeldes; confortem aqueles que estão atemorizados; tenham um carinhoso cuidado por aqueles que são fracos; e tenham paciência com todos.
15Cuidem que ninguém retribua mal por mal, mas procurem sempre fazer o bem uns aos outros e para todos.
16Estejam sempre alegres.
17Permaneçam sempre em oração.
18Estejam sempre agradecidos, haja o que houver, porque esta é a vontade de Deus para com vocês que pertencem a Cristo Jesus.
19Não abafem o Espírito Santo.
20Não zombem daqueles que profetizam,
21mas ponham à prova tudo e fiquem com o que é bom.
22Afastem-se de toda espécie de mal.
23Que o próprio Deus de paz faça vocês completamente puros, e que o espírito, a alma e o corpo de vocês sejam conservados irrepreensíveis até o dia quando nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo voltar.
24Aquele que os chama é fiel, tal como prometeu.
25Irmãos, orem por nós.
26Cumprimentem em meu nome todos os irmãos daí com um beijo santo.
27Ordeno-lhes, em nome do Senhor, que leiam esta carta a todos os irmãos.
28E que a graça de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo seja com cada um de vocês.

1EMPERO acerca de los tiempos y de los momentos, no tenéis, hermanos, necesidad de que yo os escriba:
2Porque vosotros sabéis bien, que el día del Señor vendrá así como ladrón de noche,
3Que cuando dirán, Paz y seguridad, entonces vendrá sobre ellos destrucción de repente, como los dolores á la mujer preñada; y no escaparán.
4Mas vosotros, hermanos, no estáis en tinieblas, para que aquel día os sobrecoja como ladrón;
5Porque todos vosotros sois hijos de luz, é hijos del día; no somos de la noche, ni de las tinieblas.
6Por tanto, no durmamos como los demás; antes velemos y seamos sobrios.
7Porque los que duermen, de noche duermen; y los que están borrachos, de noche están borrachos.
8Mas nosotros, que somos del día, estemos sobrios, vestidos de cota de fe y de caridad, y la esperanza de salud por yelmo.
9Porque no nos ha puesto Dios para ira, sino para alcanzar salud por nuestro Señor Jesucristo;
10El cual murió por nosotros, para que ó que velemos, ó que durmamos, vivamos juntamente con él.
11Por lo cual, consolaos los unos á los otros, y edificaos los unos á los otros, así como lo hacéis.
12Y os rogamos, hermanos, que reconozcáis á los que trabajan entre vosotros, y os presiden en el Señor, y os amonestan:
13Y que los tengáis en mucha estima por amor de su obra. Tened paz los unos con los otros.
14También os rogamos, hermanos, que amonestéis á los que andan desordenadamente, que consoléis á los de poco ánimo, que soportéis á los flacos, que seáis sufridos para con todos.
15Mirad que ninguno dé á otro mal por mal; antes seguid lo bueno siempre los unos para con los otros, y para con todos.
16Estad siempre gozosos.
17Orad sin cesar.
18Dad gracias en todo; porque esta es la voluntad de Dios para con vosotros en Cristo Jesús.
19No apaguéis el Espíritu.
20No menospreciéis las profecías.
21Examinadlo todo; retened lo bueno.
22Apartaos de toda especie de mal.
23Y el Dios de paz os santifique en todo; para que vuestro espíritu y alma y cuerpo sea guardado entero sin reprensión para la venida de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.
24Fiel es el que os ha llamado; el cual también lo hará.
25Hermanos, orad por nosotros.
26Saludad á todos los hermanos en ósculo santo.
27Conjúroos por el Señor, que esta carta sea leída á todos los santos hermanos.
28La gracia de nuestro Señor Jesucristo sea con vosotros. Amén. La primera epístola á los Tesalonicenses fué escrita de Atenas.

1But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.
2For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
3For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
4But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
5Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
6Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.
7For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.
8But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.
9For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,
10Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
11Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.
12And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;
13And to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. And be at peace among yourselves.
14Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.
15See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.
16Rejoice evermore.
17Pray without ceasing.
18In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
19Quench not the Spirit.
20Despise not prophesyings.
21Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
22Abstain from all appearance of evil.
23And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.
25Brethren, pray for us.
26Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss.
27I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the holy brethren.

1But concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need that anything be written to you.

23May the God of peace himself sanctify you completely. May your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24He who calls you is faithful, who will also do it.
