1Als Samuel alt geworden, bestellte er seine Söhne zu Richtern für Israel.
2Sein Erstgeborener hieß Joel, sein Zweiter Abia. Sie richteten zu Beerseba.
3Aber seine Söhne waren nicht auf seinen Wegen gewandelt; sie gingen vielmehr auf Gewinn aus. Sie ließen sich bestechen und beugten das Recht.
4Da traten die Ältesten Israels zusammen und kamen zu Samuel auf die Rama.
5Sie sprachen zu ihm: "Du bist alt geworden. Deine Söhne aber wandeln nicht auf deinen Wegen. Deshalb setze über uns einen König, daß er uns richte, wie es bei allen anderen Völkern ist."
6Samuel aber mißfiel es, daß sie gesprochen hatten: "Gib uns einen König, daß er uns richte!" Und Samuel beklagte sich beim Herrn.
7Da sprach der Herr zu Samuel: "Hör auf des Volkes Stimme in allem, was sie zu dir sagen! Nicht dich verwerfen sie, sondern mich, damit ich nicht mehr über sie König sei.
8Gerade so, wie sie getan von dem Tage an, da ich sie aus Ägypten geführt, bis auf diesen Tag, da sie mich verließen und anderen Göttern dienten, so tun sie auch dir.
9So hör auf ihre Stimme! Doch sollst du sie ernstlich verwarnen! Tu ihnen auch die Rechte des Königs kund, der über sie herrschen soll!"
10Und Samuel verkündete alle Worte des Herrn dem Volk, das von ihm einen König verlangte.
11Er sprach: "Dies sind die Rechte des Königs, der über euch herrschen wird: Eure Söhne nimmt er und stellt sie an seine Wagen und Rosse, daß sie vor seinem Wagen laufen.
12Er setzt sich Oberste über Tausende und Oberste über fünfzig. Sie müssen sein Ackerland pflügen, seine Ernte einbringen und seine Kriegs- und Wagengeräte machen.
13Eure Töchter nimmt er zum Salbenbereiten, Kochen und Backen.
14Von euren Feldern, Weinbergen und Ölgärten nimmt er die besten und gibt sie seinen Dienern.
15Von euren Saatländern und Weinbergen erhebt er den Zehnten und gibt ihn seinen Hofleuten und Dienern.
16Und eure Knechte und Mägde, eure fetten Rinder und eure Esel nimmt er und verwendet sie für seine Wirtschaft.
17Von euren Schafen erhebt er den Zehnten. Ihr selbst aber werdet seine Knechte sein.
18Da schreit ihr an jenem Tage wegen eures Königs, den ihr euch erwählt habt. Aber der Herr erhört euch nicht an jenem Tage."
19Das Volk aber weigerte sich, auf Samuels Stimme zu hören. Sie sprachen zu ihm: "Nur ein König soll über uns sein!
20Wir wollen auch so sein wie alle Völker. Unser König richte uns und ziehe vor uns her und führe unsere Kriege!"
21Samuel hörte aber alles, was das Volk redete, und trug es dem Herrn vor.
22Da sprach der Herr zu Samuel: "Hör auf ihre Stimme und gib ihnen einen König!" Da sprach Samuel zu den Männern Israels: "Geht, ein jeglicher in seine Stadt!"

1Y ACONTECIÓ que habiendo Samuel envejecido, puso sus hijos por jueces sobre Israel.
2Y el nombre de su hijo primogénito fué Joel, y el nombre del segundo, Abia: fueron jueces en Beer-sebah.
3Mas no anduvieron los hijos por los caminos de su padre, antes se ladearon tras la avaricia, recibiendo cohecho y pervirtiendo el derecho.
4Entonces todos los ancianos de Israel se juntaron, y vinieron á Samuel en Rama,
5Y dijéronle: He aquí tú has envejecido, y tus hijos no van por tus caminos: por tanto, constitúyenos ahora un rey que nos juzgue, como todas las gentes.
6Y descontentó á Samuel esta palabra que dijeron: Danos rey que nos juzgue. Y Samuel oró á Jehová.
7Y dijo Jehová á Samuel: Oye la voz del pueblo en todo lo que te dijeren: porque no te han desechado á ti, sino á mí me han desechado, para que no reine sobre ellos.
8Conforme á todas las obras que han hecho desde el día que los saqué de Egipto hasta hoy, que me han dejado y han servido á dioses ajenos, así hacen también contigo.
9Ahora pues, oye su voz: mas protesta contra ellos declarándoles el derecho del rey que ha de reinar sobre ellos.
10Y dijo Samuel todas las palabras de Jehová al pueblo que le había pedido rey.
11Dijo pues: Este será el derecho del rey que hubiere de reinar sobre vosotros: tomará vuestros hijos, y pondrálos en sus carros, y en su gente de á caballo, para que corran delante de su carro:
12Y se elegirá capitanes de mil, y capitanes de cincuenta: pondrálos asimismo á que aren sus campos, y sieguen sus mieses, y á que hagan sus armas de guerra, y los pertrechos de sus carros:
13Tomará también vuestras hijas para que sean perfumadoras, cocineras, y amasadoras.
14Asimismo tomará vuestras tierras, vuestras viñas, y vuestros buenos olivares, y los dará á sus siervos.
15El diezmará vuestras simientes y vuestras viñas, para dar á sus eunucos y á sus siervos.
16El tomará vuestros siervos, y vuestras siervas, y vuestros buenos mancebos, y vuestros asnos, y con ellos hará sus obras.
17Diezmará también vuestro rebaño, y seréis sus siervos.
18Y clamaréis aquel día á causa de vuestro rey que os habréis elegido, mas Jehová no os oirá en aquel día.
19Empero el pueblo no quiso oir la voz de Samuel; antes dijeron: No, sino que habrá rey sobre nosotros:
20Y nosotros seremos también como todas las gentes, y nuestro rey nos gobernará, y saldrá delante de nosotros, y hará nuestras guerras.
21Y oyó Samuel todas las palabras del pueblo, y refiriólas en oídos de Jehová.
22Y Jehová dijo á Samuel: Oye su voz, y pon rey sobre ellos. Entonces dijo Samuel á los varones de Israel: Idos cada uno á su ciudad.

1And it came to pass, when Samuel was old, that he made his sons judges over Israel.
2Now the name of his firstborn was Joel; and the name of his second, Abiah: they were judges in Beer-sheba.
3And his sons walked not in his ways, but turned aside after lucre, and took bribes, and perverted judgment.
4Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel unto Ramah,
5And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.
6But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the LORD.
7And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.
8According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even unto this day, wherewith they have forsaken me, and served other gods, so do they also unto thee.
9Now therefore hearken unto their voice: howbeit yet protest solemnly unto them, and shew them the manner of the king that shall reign over them.
10And Samuel told all the words of the LORD unto the people that asked of him a king.
11And he said, This will be the manner of the king that shall reign over you: He will take your sons, and appoint them for himself, for his chariots, and to be his horsemen; and some shall run before his chariots.
12And he will appoint him captains over thousands, and captains over fifties; and will set them to ear his ground, and to reap his harvest, and to make his instruments of war, and instruments of his chariots.
13And he will take your daughters to be confectionaries, and to be cooks, and to be bakers.
14And he will take your fields, and your vineyards, and your oliveyards, even the best of them, and give them to his servants.
15And he will take the tenth of your seed, and of your vineyards, and give to his officers, and to his servants.
16And he will take your menservants, and your maidservants, and your goodliest young men, and your asses, and put them to his work.
17He will take the tenth of your sheep: and ye shall be his servants.
18And ye shall cry out in that day because of your king which ye shall have chosen you; and the LORD will not hear you in that day.
19Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have a king over us;
20That we also may be like all the nations; and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles.
21And Samuel heard all the words of the people, and he rehearsed them in the ears of the LORD.
22And the LORD said to Samuel, Hearken unto their voice, and make them a king. And Samuel said unto the men of Israel, Go ye every man unto his city.

1When Samuel was old, he made his sons judges over Israel.
2Now the name of his firstborn was Joel, and the name of his second, Abijah. They were judges in Beersheba.
3His sons didn’t walk in his ways, but turned away after dishonest gain, took bribes, and perverted justice.
4Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together and came to Samuel to Ramah.
5They said to him, “Behold, you are old, and your sons don’t walk in your ways. Now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.”
6But the thing displeased Samuel when they said, “Give us a king to judge us.” Samuel prayed to the LORD.
7The LORD said to Samuel, “Listen to the voice of the people in all that they tell you; for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected me as the king over them.
8According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even to this day, in that they have forsaken me and served other gods, so they also do to you.
9Now therefore, listen to their voice. However, you shall protest solemnly to them, and shall show them the way of the king who will reign over them.”
10Samuel told all the LORD’s words to the people who asked him for a king.
11He said, “This will be the way of the king who shall reign over you: he will take your sons and appoint them as his servants, for his chariots and to be his horsemen; and they will run before his chariots.
12He will appoint them to him for captains of thousands and captains of fifties; and he will assign some to plow his ground and to reap his harvest; and to make his instruments of war and the instruments of his chariots.
13He will take your daughters to be perfumers, to be cooks, and to be bakers.
14He will take your fields, your vineyards, and your olive groves, even your best, and give them to his servants.
15He will take one tenth of your seed and of your vineyards, and give it to his officers and to his servants.
16He will take your male servants, your female servants, your best young men, and your donkeys, and assign them to his own work.
17He will take one tenth of your flocks; and you will be his servants.
18You will cry out in that day because of your king whom you will have chosen for yourselves; and the LORD will not answer you in that day.”
19But the people refused to listen to the voice of Samuel; and they said, “No, but we will have a king over us,
20that we also may be like all the nations; and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles.”
21Samuel heard all the words of the people, and he rehearsed them in the ears of the LORD.
22The LORD said to Samuel, “Listen to their voice, and make them a king.” Samuel said to the men of Israel, “Everyone go to your own city.”
