Y le dijo: Mira, eres viejo, y tus hijos no van en tus caminos. Danos un rey ahora para que sea nuestro juez, para que podamos ser como las otras naciones.

Pero a Samuel no le gustó la petición que le hicieron. Danos un rey para que sea nuestro juez. Y Samuel hizo oración al Señor.
Y descontentó á Samuel esta palabra que dijeron: Danos rey que nos juzgue. Y Samuel oró á Jehová.

Entonces el Señor le dijo a Samuel: Escucha la voz de la gente y lo que te dicen. No se han apartado de ti, sino que se han apartado de mí, no queriendo que yo fuera rey sobre ellos.
Y dijo Jehová á Samuel: Oye la voz del pueblo en todo lo que te dijeren: porque no te han desechado á ti, sino á mí me han desechado, para que no reine sobre ellos.
And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.

Como lo han hecho desde el principio, desde el día en que los saqué de Egipto hasta el día de hoy, dándome la espalda y adorando a otros dioses, así que ahora están actuando de la misma manera contigo.
Conforme á todas las obras que han hecho desde el día que los saqué de Egipto hasta hoy, que me han dejado y han servido á dioses ajenos, así hacen también contigo.

Escucha ahora su voz: pero advertirles seriamente a ellos y dales una imagen de la clase de rey que será su gobernante.

Y Samuel dijo todas estas palabras del Señor a la gente que deseaba un rey.

Dijo pues: Este será el derecho del rey que hubiere de reinar sobre vosotros: tomará vuestros hijos, y pondrálos en sus carros, y en su gente de á caballo, para que corran delante de su carro:
And he said, This will be the manner of the king that shall reign over you: He will take your sons, and appoint them for himself, for his chariots, and to be his horsemen; and some shall run before his chariots.
He said, “This will be the way of the king who shall reign over you: he will take your sons and appoint them as his servants, for his chariots and to be his horsemen; and they will run before his chariots.
Y los convertirá en capitanes de miles y de cincuenta; a algunos los pondrá a trabajar arando y cortando su grano y haciendo sus instrumentos de guerra y construyendo sus carruajes de guerra.
Y se elegirá capitanes de mil, y capitanes de cincuenta: pondrálos asimismo á que aren sus campos, y sieguen sus mieses, y á que hagan sus armas de guerra, y los pertrechos de sus carros:
And he will appoint him captains over thousands, and captains over fifties; and will set them to ear his ground, and to reap his harvest, and to make his instruments of war, and instruments of his chariots.

Tus hijas las llevará a ser fabricantes de perfumistas, cocineras y panaderas.

Pero el pueblo no prestó atención a la voz de Samuel; Y ellos dijeron: No, pero tendremos un rey sobre nosotros,

Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have a king over us;

Para que podamos ser como las otras naciones, y para que nuestro rey sea nuestro juez y salga ante nosotros a la guerra.
Y nosotros seremos también como todas las gentes, y nuestro rey nos gobernará, y saldrá delante de nosotros, y hará nuestras guerras.

Entonces Samuel, después de escuchar todo lo que la gente tenía que decir, fue y dio cuenta de ello al Señor.
