1Then the men of Kiriath-jearim arrived, and they led away the ark of the Lord. And they brought it into the house of Abinadab, in Gibeah. Then they sanctified Eleazar, his son, so that he might care for the ark of the Lord.
2And it happened that, from that day, the ark of the Lord remained in Kiriath-jearim. And the days were multiplied (for it was now the twentieth year) and all the house of Israel rested, following the Lord.
3Then Samuel spoke to the entire house of Israel, saying: “If you would return to the Lord with your whole heart, take away strange gods from among you, the Baals and Ashtaroth, and prepare your hearts for the Lord, and serve him alone. And he will rescue you from the hand of the Philistines.”
4Therefore, the sons of Israel took away the Baals and Ashtaroth, and they served the Lord alone.
5And Samuel said, “Gather all of Israel at Mizpah, so that I may pray for you to the Lord.”
6And they convened at Mizpah. And they drew water, and they poured it out in the sight of the Lord. And on that day they fasted, and in that place they said, “We have sinned against the Lord.” And Samuel judged the sons of Israel at Mizpah.
7And the Philistines heard that the sons of Israel had gathered together at Mizpah. And the princes of the Philistines ascended against Israel. And when the sons of Israel had heard this, they were afraid before the face of the Philistines.
8And they said to Samuel, “May you not cease to cry out to the Lord our God on our behalf, so that he may save us from the hand of the Philistines.”
9Then Samuel took one suckling lamb, and he offered it whole, as a holocaust to the Lord. And Samuel cried out to the Lord on behalf of Israel, and the Lord heeded him.
10Then it happened that, while Samuel was offering the holocaust, the Philistines began the battle against Israel. But the Lord thundered with a great crash, on that day, over the Philistines, and he terrified them, and they were cut down before the face of Israel.
11And the men of Israel, departing from Mizpah, pursued the Philistines, and they struck them down as far as the place which was below Bethcar.
12Then Samuel took a single stone, and he placed it between Mizpah and Shen. And he called the name of this place: The Stone of Assistance. And he said, “For in this place the Lord gave assistance to us.”
13And the Philistines were humbled, and they no longer drew near, so that they might enter into the borders of Israel. And so, the hand of the Lord was over the Philistines during all the days of Samuel.
14And the cities that the Philistines had taken from Israel were restored to Israel, from Ekron as far as Gath, with their borders. And he freed Israel from the hand of the Philistines. And there was peace between Israel and the Amorites.
15And Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.
16And he went each year, traveling around to Bethel, and to Gilgal, and to Mizpah, and he judged Israel in the above-stated places.
17And he returned to Ramah. For his house was there, and he judged Israel there. And then he built an altar to the Lord there.

1Y VINIERON los de Chîriath-jearim, y llevaron el arca de Jehová, y metiéronla en casa de Abinadab, situada en el collado; y santificaron á Eleazar su hijo, para que guardase el arca de Jehová.
2Y aconteció que desde el día que llegó el arca á Chîriath-jearim pasaron muchos días, veinte años; y toda la casa de Israel lamentaba en pos de Jehová.
3Y habló Samuel á toda la casa de Israel, diciendo: Si de todo vuestro corazón os volvéis á Jehová, quitad los dioses ajenos y á Astaroth de entre vosotros, y preparad vuestro corazón á Jehová, y á sólo él servid, y os librará de mano de los Filisteos.
4Entonces los hijos de Israel quitaron á los Baales y á Astaroth, y sirvieron á solo Jehová.
5Y Samuel dijo: Juntad á todo Israel en Mizpa, y yo oraré por vosotros á Jehová.
6Y juntándose en Mizpa, sacaron agua, y derramáronla delante de Jehová, y ayunaron aquel día, y dijeron allí: Contra Jehová hemos pecado. Y juzgó Samuel á los hijos de Israel en Mizpa.
7Y oyendo los Filisteos que los hijos de Israel estaban reunidos en Mizpa, subieron los príncipes de los Filisteos contra Israel: lo cual como hubieron oído los hijos de Israel, tuvieron temor de los Filisteos.
8Y dijeron los hijos de Israel á Samuel: No ceses de clamar por nosotros á Jehová nuestro Dios, que nos guarde de mano de los filisteos.
9Y Samuel tomó un cordero de leche, y sacrificólo entero á Jehová en holocausto: y clamó Samuel á Jehová por Israel, y Jehová le oyó.
10Y aconteció que estando Samuel sacrificando el holocausto, los Filisteos llegaron para pelear con los hijos de Israel. Mas Jehová tronó aquel día con grande estruendo sobre los Filisteos, y desbaratólos, y fueron vencidos delante de Israel.
11Y saliendo los hijos de Israel de Mizpa, siguieron á los Filisteos, hiriéndolos hasta abajo de Beth-car.
12Tomó luego Samuel una piedra, y púsola entre Mizpa y Sen, y púsole por nombre Eben-ezer, diciendo: Hasta aquí nos ayudó Jehová.
13Fueron pues los Filisteos humillados, que no vinieron más al término de Israel; y la mano de Jehová fué contra los Filisteos todo el tiempo de Samuel.
14Y fueron restituídas á los hijos de Israel las ciudades que los Filisteos habían tomado á los Israelitas, desde Ecrón hasta Gath, con sus términos: é Israel las libró de mano de los Filisteos. Y hubo paz entre Israel y el Amorrheo.
15Y juzgó Samuel á Israel todo el tiempo que vivió.
16Y todos los años iba y daba vuelta á Beth-el, y á Gilgal, y á Mizpa, y juzgaba á Israel en todos estos lugares.
17Volvíase después á Rama, porque allí estaba su casa, y allí juzgaba á Israel; y edificó allí altar á Jehová.

1And the men of Kirjath-jearim came, and fetched up the ark of the LORD, and brought it into the house of Abinadab in the hill, and sanctified Eleazar his son to keep the ark of the LORD.
2And it came to pass, while the ark abode in Kirjath-jearim, that the time was long; for it was twenty years: and all the house of Israel lamented after the LORD.
3And Samuel spake unto all the house of Israel, saying, If ye do return unto the LORD with all your hearts, then put away the strange gods and Ashtaroth from among you, and prepare your hearts unto the LORD, and serve him only: and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.
4Then the children of Israel did put away Baalim and Ashtaroth, and served the LORD only.
5And Samuel said, Gather all Israel to Mizpeh, and I will pray for you unto the LORD.
6And they gathered together to Mizpeh, and drew water, and poured it out before the LORD, and fasted on that day, and said there, We have sinned against the LORD. And Samuel judged the children of Israel in Mizpeh.
7And when the Philistines heard that the children of Israel were gathered together to Mizpeh, the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. And when the children of Israel heard it, they were afraid of the Philistines.
8And the children of Israel said to Samuel, Cease not to cry unto the LORD our God for us, that he will save us out of the hand of the Philistines.
9And Samuel took a sucking lamb, and offered it for a burnt offering wholly unto the LORD: and Samuel cried unto the LORD for Israel; and the LORD heard him.
10And as Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel: but the LORD thundered with a great thunder on that day upon the Philistines, and discomfited them; and they were smitten before Israel.
11And the men of Israel went out of Mizpeh, and pursued the Philistines, and smote them, until they came under Beth-car.
12Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name of it Eben-ezer, saying, Hitherto hath the LORD helped us.
13So the Philistines were subdued, and they came no more into the coast of Israel: and the hand of the LORD was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel.
14And the cities which the Philistines had taken from Israel were restored to Israel, from Ekron even unto Gath; and the coasts thereof did Israel deliver out of the hands of the Philistines. And there was peace between Israel and the Amorites.
15And Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.
16And he went from year to year in circuit to Beth-el, and Gilgal, and Mizpeh, and judged Israel in all those places.
17And his return was to Ramah; for there was his house; and there he judged Israel; and there he built an altar unto the LORD.

1The men of Kiriath Jearim came and took the LORD’s ark, and brought it into Abinadab’s house on the hill, and consecrated Eleazar his son to keep the LORD’s ark.
2From the day that the ark stayed in Kiriath Jearim, the time was long—for it was twenty years; and all the house of Israel lamented after the LORD.
3Samuel spoke to all the house of Israel, saying, “If you are returning to the LORD with all your heart, then put away the foreign gods and the Ashtaroth from among you, and direct your hearts to the LORD, and serve him only; and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.”
4Then the children of Israel removed the Baals and the Ashtaroth, and served the LORD only.
5Samuel said, “Gather all Israel to Mizpah, and I will pray to the LORD for you.”
6They gathered together to Mizpah, and drew water, and poured it out before the LORD, and fasted on that day, and said there, “We have sinned against the LORD.” Samuel judged the children of Israel in Mizpah.
7When the Philistines heard that the children of Israel were gathered together at Mizpah, the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. When the children of Israel heard it, they were afraid of the Philistines.
8The children of Israel said to Samuel, “Don’t stop crying to the LORD our God for us, that he will save us out of the hand of the Philistines.”

10As Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines came near to battle against Israel; but the LORD thundered with a great thunder on that day on the Philistines and confused them; and they were struck down before Israel.
11The men of Israel went out of Mizpah and pursued the Philistines, and struck them until they came under Beth Kar.
12Then Samuel took a stone and set it between Mizpah and Shen, and called its name Ebenezer, saying, “The LORD helped us until now.”
13So the Philistines were subdued, and they stopped coming within the border of Israel. The LORD’s hand was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel.
14The cities which the Philistines had taken from Israel were restored to Israel, from Ekron even to Gath; and Israel recovered its border out of the hand of the Philistines. There was peace between Israel and the Amorites.
15Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.
16He went from year to year in a circuit to Bethel, Gilgal, and Mizpah; and he judged Israel in all those places.
17His return was to Ramah, for his house was there, and he judged Israel there; and he built an altar to the LORD there.
