1Les Philistins ayant donc pris l'Arche de Dieu la transférèrent d'Ebenézer à Asdod.

2Et les Philistins ayant pris l'Arche de Dieu l'introduisirent dans le temple de Dagon, et la placèrent à côté de Dagon.

3Et quand le lendemain matin les Asdodéens se levèrent, voilà que Dagon était étendu la face contre terre devant l'Arche de l'Éternel. Et ils prirent Dagon et le remirent en place.

4Et lorsque le lendemain matin ils se levèrent, voilà que Dagon était gisant la face contre terre devant l'Arche de l'Éternel, et la tête de Dagon et ses deux mains étaient en tronçons sur le seuil, il ne restait de lui que la partie poisson.

5(C'est pourquoi les prêtres de Dagon et tous ceux qui entrent dans le temple de Dagon ne posent point le pied sur le seuil de Dagon à Asdod jusqu'aujourd'hui).

6Et la main de l'Éternel s'appesantit sur les Asdodéens, et Il fit des ravages chez eux et les affligea de bubons, Asdod et son territoire.

7Et les gens d'Asdod voyant qu'il en était ainsi, dirent : il ne faut pas que l'Arche du Dieu d'Israël reste chez nous, car Sa main a été rigoureuse pour nous et pour Dagon, notre Dieu.

8Alors par des envoyés ils convoquèrent chez eux tous les princes des Philistins, et ils dirent : Que ferons-nous de l'Arche du Dieu d'Israël ? Et il fut dit : Que l'Arche du Dieu d'Israël soit transférée à Gath. Et on fit la translation de l'Arche du Dieu d'Israël.

9Et après qu'elle eut été transférée, la main de l'Éternel se fit sentir à la ville ; il y eut très grande perturbation, et Il frappa les gens de la ville du petit au grand, et ils eurent une éruption de bubons.

10Alors ils dirigèrent l'Arche de Dieu vers Ekron. Et lorsque l'Arche de Dieu entra dans Ekron, les Ekronites se récrièrent et dirent : Ils transfèrent chez nous l'Arche du Dieu d'Israël pour nous tuer, nous et notre peuple !

11Puis par des députés ils convoquèrent tous les princes des Philistins ; et ils dirent : Renvoyez l'Arche du Dieu d'Israël, et qu'elle retourne en son lieu pour qu'elle ne nous tue pas, nous et notre peuple. Car il y avait dans toute la ville une rumeur de mort ; et la main de Dieu s'y faisait gravement sentir.

12Et les gens qui ne mouraient pas, étaient affligés de bubons, et les cris de la ville en détresse montaient vers le ciel.

1Y LOS Filisteos, tomada el arca de Dios, trajéronla desde Eben-ezer á Asdod.

2Y tomaron los Filisteos el arca de Dios, y metiéronla en la casa de Dagón, y pusiéronla junto á Dagón.

3Y el siguiente día los de Asdod se levantaron de mañana, y he aquí Dagón postrado en tierra delante del arca de Jehová: y tomaron á Dagón, y volviéronlo á su lugar.

4Y tornándose á levantar de mañana el siguiente día, he aquí que Dagón había caído postrado en tierra delante del arca de Jehová; y la cabeza de Dagón y las dos palmas de sus manos estaban cortadas sobre el umbral, habiéndole quedado á Dagón el tronco solamente.

5Por esta causa los sacerdotes de Dagón, y todos los que en el templo de Dagón entran, no pisan el umbral de Dagón en Asdod, hasta hoy.

6Empero agravóse la mano de Jehová sobre los de Asdod, y destruyólos, é hiriólos con hemorroides en Asdod y en todos sus términos.

7Y viendo esto los de Asdod, dijeron: No quede con nosotros el arca del Dios de Israel, porque su mano es dura sobre nosotros, y sobre nuestro dios Dagón.

8Enviaron pues á juntar á sí todos los príncipes de los Filisteos, y dijeron: ¿Qué haremos del arca del Dios de Israel? Y ellos respondieron: Pásese el arca del Dios de Israel á Gath. Y pasaron allá el arca del Dios de Israel.

9Y aconteció que como la hubieron pasado, la mano de Jehová fué contra la ciudad con grande quebrantamiento; é hirió los hombres de aquella ciudad desde el chico hasta el grande, que se llenaron de hemorroides.

10Entonces enviaron el arca de Dios á Ecrón. Y como el arca de Dios vino á Ecrón, los Ecronitas dieron voces diciendo: Han pasado á mí el arca del Dios de Israel por matarme á mí y á mi pueblo.

11Y enviaron á juntar todos los príncipes de los Filisteos, diciendo: Despachad el arca del Dios de Israel, y tórnese á su lugar, y no mate á mí ni á mi pueblo: porque había quebrantamiento de muerte en toda la ciudad, y la mano de Dios se había allí agravado.

12Y los que no morían, eran heridos de hemorroides; y el clamor de la ciudad subía al cielo.

1And the Philistines took the ark of God, and brought it from Eben-ezer unto Ashdod.

2When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon.

3And when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of the LORD. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again.

4And when they arose early on the morrow morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the LORD; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the threshold; only the stump of Dagon was left to him.

5Therefore neither the priests of Dagon, nor any that come into Dagon’s house, tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod unto this day.

6But the hand of the LORD was heavy upon them of Ashdod, and he destroyed them, and smote them with emerods, even Ashdod and the coasts thereof.

7And when the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, The ark of the God of Israel shall not abide with us: for his hand is sore upon us, and upon Dagon our god.

8They sent therefore and gathered all the lords of the Philistines unto them, and said, What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel? And they answered, Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried about unto Gath. And they carried the ark of the God of Israel about thither.

9And it was so, that, after they had carried it about, the hand of the LORD was against the city with a very great destruction: and he smote the men of the city, both small and great, and they had emerods in their secret parts.

10Therefore they sent the ark of God to Ekron. And it came to pass, as the ark of God came to Ekron, that the Ekronites cried out, saying, They have brought about the ark of the God of Israel to us, to slay us and our people.

11So they sent and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and said, Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it go again to his own place, that it slay us not, and our people: for there was a deadly destruction throughout all the city; the hand of God was very heavy there.

12And the men that died not were smitten with the emerods: and the cry of the city went up to heaven.

World English Bible

1Now the Philistines had taken God’s ark, and they brought it from Ebenezer to Ashdod.

2The Philistines took God’s ark, and brought it into the house of Dagon and set it by Dagon.

3When the people of Ashdod arose early on the next day, behold, Dagon had fallen on his face to the ground before the LORD’s ark. They took Dagon and set him in his place again.

4When they arose early on the following morning, behold, Dagon had fallen on his face to the ground before the LORD’s ark; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off on the threshold. Only Dagon’s torso was intact.

5Therefore neither the priests of Dagon nor any who come into Dagon’s house step on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod to this day.

6But the LORD’s hand was heavy on the people of Ashdod, and he destroyed them and struck them with tumors, even Ashdod and its borders.

7When the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, “The ark of the God of Israel shall not stay with us, for his hand is severe on us and on Dagon our god.”

8They sent therefore and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and said, “What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel?” They answered, “Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried over to Gath.” They carried the ark of the God of Israel there.

9It was so, that after they had carried it there, the LORD’s hand was against the city with a very great confusion; and he struck the men of the city, both small and great, so that tumors broke out on them.

10So they sent God’s ark to Ekron. As God’s ark came to Ekron, the Ekronites cried out, saying, “They have brought the ark of the God of Israel here to us, to kill us and our people.”

11They sent therefore and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and they said, “Send the ark of the God of Israel away, and let it go again to its own place, that it not kill us and our people.” For there was a deadly panic throughout all the city. The hand of God was very heavy there.

12The men who didn’t die were struck with the tumors; and the cry of the city went up to heaven.
