1En ce temps-là, les Philistins rassemblèrent leurs troupes et formèrent une armée, pour faire la guerre à Israël. Akisch dit à David: Tu sais que tu viendras avec moi à l’armée, toi et tes gens.
2David répondit à Akisch: Tu verras bien ce que ton serviteur fera. Et Akisch dit à David: Aussi je te donnerai pour toujours la garde de ma personne.
3Samuel était mort; tout Israël l’avait pleuré, et on l’avait enterré à Rama, dans sa ville. Saül avait ôté du pays ceux qui évoquaient les morts et ceux qui prédisaient l’avenir.
4Les Philistins se rassemblèrent, et vinrent camper à Sunem; Saül rassembla tout Israël, et ils campèrent à Guilboa.
5A la vue du camp des Philistins, Saül fut saisi de crainte, et un violent tremblement s’empara de son cœur.
6Saül consulta l’Éternel; et l’Éternel ne lui répondit point, ni par des songes, ni par l’urim, ni par les prophètes.
7Et Saül dit à ses serviteurs: Cherchez-moi une femme qui évoque les morts, et j’irai la consulter. Ses serviteurs lui dirent: Voici, à En-Dor il y a une femme qui évoque les morts.
8Alors Saül se déguisa et prit d’autres vêtements, et il partit avec deux hommes. Ils arrivèrent de nuit chez la femme. Saül lui dit: Prédis-moi l’avenir en évoquant un mort, et fais-moi monter celui que je te dirai.
9La femme lui répondit: Voici, tu sais ce que Saül a fait, comment il a retranché du pays ceux qui évoquent les morts et ceux qui prédisent l’avenir; pourquoi donc tends-tu un piège à ma vie pour me faire mourir?
10Saül lui jura par l’Éternel, en disant: L’Éternel est vivant! Il ne t’arrivera point de mal pour cela.
11La femme dit: Qui veux-tu que je te fasse monter? Et il répondit: Fais moi monter Samuel.
12Lorsque la femme vit Samuel, elle poussa un grand cri, et elle dit à Saül: Pourquoi m’as-tu trompée! Tu es Saül?
13Le roi lui dit: Ne crains rien; mais que vois-tu? La femme dit à Saül: je vois un dieu qui monte de la terre.
14Il lui dit: Quelle figure a-t-il? Et elle répondit: C’est un vieillard qui monte et il est enveloppé d’un manteau. Saül comprit que c’était Samuel, et il s’inclina le visage contre terre et se prosterna.
15Samuel dit à Saül: Pourquoi m’as-tu troublé, en me faisant monter? Saül répondit: Je suis dans une grande détresse: les Philistins me font la guerre, et Dieu s’est retiré de moi; il ne m’a répondu ni par les prophètes ni par des songes. Et je t’ai appelé pour que tu me fasses connaître ce que je dois faire.
16Samuel dit: Pourquoi donc me consultes-tu, puisque l’Éternel s’est retiré de toi et qu’il est devenu ton ennemi?
17L’Éternel te traite comme je te l’avais annoncé de sa part; l’Éternel a déchiré la royauté d’entre tes mains, et l’a donnée à un autre, à David.
18Tu n’as point obéi à la voix de l’Éternel, et tu n’as point fait sentir à Amalek l’ardeur de sa colère: voilà pourquoi l’Éternel te traite aujourd’hui de cette manière.
19Et même l’Éternel livrera Israël avec toi entre les mains des Philistins. Demain, toi et tes fils, vous serez avec moi, et l’Éternel livrera le camp d’Israël entre les mains des Philistins.
20Aussitôt Saül tomba à terre de toute sa hauteur, et les paroles de Samuel le remplirent d’effroi; de plus, il manquait de force, car il n’avait pris aucune nourriture de tout le jour et de toute la nuit.
21La femme vint auprès de Saül, et, le voyant très effrayé, elle lui dit: Voici, ta servante a écouté ta voix; j’ai exposé ma vie, en obéissant aux paroles que tu m’as dites.
22Écoute maintenant, toi aussi, la voix de ta servante, et laisse-moi t’offrir un morceau de pain, afin que tu manges pour avoir la force de te mettre en route.
23Mais il refusa, et dit: Je ne mangerai point. Ses serviteurs et la femme aussi le pressèrent, et il se rendit à leurs instances. Il se leva de terre, et s’assit sur le lit.
24La femme avait chez elle un veau gras, qu’elle se hâta de tuer; et elle prit de la farine, la pétrit, et en cuisit des pains sans levain.
25Elle les mit devant Saül et devant ses serviteurs. Et ils mangèrent. Puis, s’étant levés, ils partirent la nuit même.

1Y ACONTECIÓ que en aquellos días los Filisteos juntaron sus campos para pelear contra Israel. Y dijo Achîs á David: Sabe de cierto que has de salir conmigo á campaña, tú y los tuyos.
2Y David respondió á Achîs: Sabrás pues lo que hará tu siervo. Y Achîs dijo á David: Por tanto te haré guarda de mi cabeza todos los días.
3Ya Samuel era muerto, y todo Israel lo había lamentado, y habíanle sepultado en Rama, en su ciudad. Y Saúl había echado de la tierra los encantadores y adivinos.
4Pues como los Filisteos se juntaron, vinieron y asentaron campo en Sunam: y Saúl juntó á todo Israel, y asentaron campo en Gilboa.
5Y cuando vió Saúl el campo de los Filisteos, temió, y turbóse su corazón en gran manera.
6Y consultó Saúl á Jehová; pero Jehová no le respondió, ni por sueños, ni por Urim, ni por profetas.
7Entonces Saúl dijo á sus criados: Buscadme una mujer que tenga espíritu de pythón, para que yo vaya á ella, y por medio de ella pregunte. Y sus criados le respondieron: He aquí hay una mujer en Endor que tiene espíritu de pythón.
8Y disfrazóse Saúl, y púsose otros vestidos, y fuése con dos hombres, y vinieron á aquella mujer de noche; y él dijo: Yo te ruego que me adivines por el espíritu de pythón, y me hagas subir á quien yo te dijere.
9Y la mujer le dijo: He aquí tú sabes lo que Saúl ha hecho, cómo ha separado de la tierra los pythones y los adivinos: ¿por qué pues pones tropiezo á mi vida, para hacerme matar?
10Entoces Saúl le juró por Jehová, diciendo: Vive Jehová, que ningún mal te vendrá por esto.
11La mujer entonces dijo: ¿A quién te haré venir? Y él respondió: Hazme venir á Samuel.
12Y viendo la mujer á Samuel, clamó en alta voz, y habló aquella mujer á Saúl, diciendo:
13¿Por qué me has engañado? que tú eres Saúl. Y el rey le dijo: No temas: ¿qué has visto? Y la mujer respondió á Saúl: He visto dioses que suben de la tierra.
14Y él le dijo: ¿Cuál es su forma? Y ella respondió: Un hombre anciano viene, cubierto de un manto. Saúl entonces entendió que era Samuel, y humillando el rostro á tierra, hizo gran reverencia.
15Y Samuel dijo á Saúl: ¿Por qué me has inquietado haciéndome venir? Y Saúl respondió: Estoy muy congojado; pues los Filisteos pelean contra mí, y Dios se ha apartado de mí, y no me responde más, ni por mano de profetas, ni por sueños: por esto te he llamado, para que me declares qué tengo de hacer.
16Entonces Samuel dijo: ¿Y para qué me preguntas á mí, habiéndose apartado de ti Jehová, y es tu enemigo?
17Jehová pues ha hecho como habló por medio de mí; pues ha cortado Jehová el reino de tu mano, y lo ha dado á tu compañero David.
18Como tú no obedeciste á la voz de Jehová, ni cumpliste el furor de su ira sobre Amalec, por eso Jehová te ha hecho esto hoy.
19Y Jehová entregará á Israel también contigo en manos de los Filisteos: y mañana seréis conmigo, tú y tus hijos: y aun el campo de Israel entregará Jehová en manos de los Filisteos.
20En aquel punto cayó Saúl en tierra cuan grande era, y tuvo gran temor por las palabras de Samuel; que no quedó en él esfuerzo ninguno, porque en todo aquel día y aquella noche no había comido pan.
21Entonces la mujer vino á Saúl, y viéndole en grande manera turbado, díjole: He aquí que tu criada ha obedecido á tu voz, y he puesto mi vida en mi mano, y he oído las palabras que tú me has dicho.
22Ruégote pues, que tú también oigas la voz de tu sierva: pondré yo delante de ti un bocado de pan que comas, para que te corrobores, y vayas tu camino.
23Y él lo rehusó, diciendo: No comeré. Mas sus criados juntamente con la mujer le constriñeron, y él los obedeció. Levantóse pues del suelo, y sentóse sobre una cama.
24Y aquella mujer tenía en su casa un ternero grueso, el cual mató luego; y tomó harina y amasóla, y coció de ella panes sin levadura.
25Y lo trajo delante de Saúl y de sus criados; y luego que hubieron comido, se levantaron, y partieron aquella noche.

1And it came to pass in those days, that the Philistines gathered their armies together for warfare, to fight with Israel. And Achish said unto David, Know thou assuredly, that thou shalt go out with me to battle, thou and thy men.
2And David said to Achish, Surely thou shalt know what thy servant can do. And Achish said to David, Therefore will I make thee keeper of mine head for ever.
3Now Samuel was dead, and all Israel had lamented him, and buried him in Ramah, even in his own city. And Saul had put away those that had familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land.
4And the Philistines gathered themselves together, and came and pitched in Shunem: and Saul gathered all Israel together, and they pitched in Gilboa.
5And when Saul saw the host of the Philistines, he was afraid, and his heart greatly trembled.
6And when Saul enquired of the LORD, the LORD answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets.
7Then said Saul unto his servants, Seek me a woman that hath a familiar spirit, that I may go to her, and enquire of her. And his servants said to him, Behold, there is a woman that hath a familiar spirit at Endor.
8And Saul disguised himself, and put on other raiment, and he went, and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night: and he said, I pray thee, divine unto me by the familiar spirit, and bring me him up, whom I shall name unto thee.
9And the woman said unto him, Behold, thou knowest what Saul hath done, how he hath cut off those that have familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land: wherefore then layest thou a snare for my life, to cause me to die?
10And Saul sware to her by the LORD, saying, As the LORD liveth, there shall no punishment happen to thee for this thing.
11Then said the woman, Whom shall I bring up unto thee? And he said, Bring me up Samuel.
12And when the woman saw Samuel, she cried with a loud voice: and the woman spake to Saul, saying, Why hast thou deceived me? for thou art Saul.
13And the king said unto her, Be not afraid: for what sawest thou? And the woman said unto Saul, I saw gods ascending out of the earth.
14And he said unto her, What form is he of? And she said, An old man cometh up; and he is covered with a mantle. And Saul perceived that it was Samuel, and he stooped with his face to the ground, and bowed himself.
15And Samuel said to Saul, Why hast thou disquieted me, to bring me up? And Saul answered, I am sore distressed; for the Philistines make war against me, and God is departed from me, and answereth me no more, neither by prophets, nor by dreams: therefore I have called thee, that thou mayest make known unto me what I shall do.
16Then said Samuel, Wherefore then dost thou ask of me, seeing the LORD is departed from thee, and is become thine enemy?
17And the LORD hath done to him, as he spake by me: for the LORD hath rent the kingdom out of thine hand, and given it to thy neighbour, even to David:
18Because thou obeyedst not the voice of the LORD, nor executedst his fierce wrath upon Amalek, therefore hath the LORD done this thing unto thee this day.
19Moreover the LORD will also deliver Israel with thee into the hand of the Philistines: and to morrow shalt thou and thy sons be with me: the LORD also shall deliver the host of Israel into the hand of the Philistines.
20Then Saul fell straightway all along on the earth, and was sore afraid, because of the words of Samuel: and there was no strength in him; for he had eaten no bread all the day, nor all the night.
21And the woman came unto Saul, and saw that he was sore troubled, and said unto him, Behold, thine handmaid hath obeyed thy voice, and I have put my life in my hand, and have hearkened unto thy words which thou spakest unto me.
22Now therefore, I pray thee, hearken thou also unto the voice of thine handmaid, and let me set a morsel of bread before thee; and eat, that thou mayest have strength, when thou goest on thy way.
23But he refused, and said, I will not eat. But his servants, together with the woman, compelled him; and he hearkened unto their voice. So he arose from the earth, and sat upon the bed.
24And the woman had a fat calf in the house; and she hasted, and killed it, and took flour, and kneaded it, and did bake unleavened bread thereof:
25And she brought it before Saul, and before his servants; and they did eat. Then they rose up, and went away that night.

1In those days, the Philistines gathered their armies together for warfare, to fight with Israel. Achish said to David, “Know assuredly that you will go out with me in the army, you and your men.”
2David said to Achish, “Therefore you will know what your servant can do.” Achish said to David, “Therefore I will make you my bodyguard forever.”
3Now Samuel was dead, and all Israel had mourned for him and buried him in Ramah, even in his own city. Saul had sent away those who had familiar spirits and the wizards out of the land.
4The Philistines gathered themselves together, and came and encamped in Shunem; and Saul gathered all Israel together, and they encamped in Gilboa.
5When Saul saw the army of the Philistines, he was afraid, and his heart trembled greatly.
6When Saul inquired of the LORD, the LORD didn’t answer him by dreams, by Urim, or by prophets.
7Then Saul said to his servants, “Seek for me a woman who has a familiar spirit, that I may go to her and inquire of her.” His servants said to him, “Behold, there is a woman who has a familiar spirit at Endor.”
8Saul disguised himself and put on other clothing, and went, he and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night. Then he said, “Please consult for me by the familiar spirit, and bring me up whomever I shall name to you.”
9The woman said to him, “Behold, you know what Saul has done, how he has cut off those who have familiar spirits and the wizards out of the land. Why then do you lay a snare for my life, to cause me to die?”
10Saul swore to her by the LORD, saying, “As the LORD lives, no punishment will happen to you for this thing.”
11Then the woman said, “Whom shall I bring up to you?” He said, “Bring Samuel up for me.”
12When the woman saw Samuel, she cried with a loud voice; and the woman spoke to Saul, saying, “Why have you deceived me? For you are Saul!”
13The king said to her, “Don’t be afraid! What do you see?” The woman said to Saul, “I see a god coming up out of the earth.”
14He said to her, “What does he look like?” She said, “An old man comes up. He is covered with a robe.” Saul perceived that it was Samuel, and he bowed with his face to the ground, and showed respect.
15Samuel said to Saul, “Why have you disturbed me, to bring me up?” Saul answered, “I am very distressed; for the Philistines make war against me, and God has departed from me, and answers me no more, by prophets, or by dreams. Therefore I have called you, that you may make known to me what I shall do.”
16Samuel said, “Why then do you ask me, since the LORD has departed from you and has become your adversary?
17The LORD has done to you as he spoke by me. The LORD has torn the kingdom out of your hand and given it to your neighbor, even to David.
18Because you didn’t obey the LORD’s voice, and didn’t execute his fierce wrath on Amalek, therefore the LORD has done this thing to you today.
19Moreover the LORD will deliver Israel also with you into the hand of the Philistines; and tomorrow you and your sons will be with me. The LORD will deliver the army of Israel also into the hand of the Philistines.”
20Then Saul fell immediately his full length on the earth, and was terrified, because of Samuel’s words. There was no strength in him, for he had eaten no bread all day long or all night long.
21The woman came to Saul and saw that he was very troubled, and said to him, “Behold, your servant has listened to your voice, and I have put my life in my hand, and have listened to your words which you spoke to me.
22Now therefore, please listen also to the voice of your servant, and let me set a morsel of bread before you. Eat, that you may have strength when you go on your way.”
23But he refused, and said, “I will not eat.” But his servants, together with the woman, constrained him; and he listened to their voice. So he arose from the earth and sat on the bed.
24The woman had a fattened calf in the house. She hurried and killed it; and she took flour and kneaded it, and baked unleavened bread of it.
25She brought it before Saul and before his servants, and they ate. Then they rose up and went away that night.
