1David se dit en lui-même: "Un de ces jours, je périrai par la main de Saül. Je n'ai rien de mieux à faire que de me réfugier au pays des Philistins; Saül renoncera à me rechercher dans tout le territoire d'Israël, et je serai sauvé de sa main."
2Là-dessus David se transporta, avec ses six cents hommes, auprès d'Akhich, fils de Maokh, roi de Gath.
3David résida auprès d'Akhich, à Gath, lui et ses hommes, chacun avec sa famille; lui-même avec ses deux femmes, Ahinoam de Jezreël et Abigaïl, femme de Nabal, de Carmel.
4Saül, ayant appris que David s'était réfugié à Gath, cessa dès lors de le rechercher.
5Or, David dit à Akhich: "Si j'ai trouvé faveur à tes yeux, fais-moi accorder une résidence dans quelque bourg de la campagne, pour que j'y demeure: pourquoi ton serviteur résiderait-il dans la ville royale, à tes côtés?
6Et Akhich, le même jour, lui fit don de Ciklag; aussi Ciklag a-t-il appartenu aux rois de Juda jusqu'aujourd'hui.
7La durée du temps que David demeura parmi les Philistins fut d'un an et quatre mois.
8David montait avec ses hommes faire des incursions chez des gens de Guechour, de Ghézer et d'Amalec, familles habitant de longue date la région vers Chour et jusqu'au pays d'Egpyte.
9David ravageait le pays, ne laissait vivre hommes ni femmes, capturait menu et gros bétail, ânes, chameaux et vêtements, puis s'en retournait auprès d'Akhich.
10Quand celui-ci demandait: "Où avez-vous porté vos attaques aujourd'hui?" David répondait: "Sur le midi de Juda, sur le midi des Yerahmeélites et des Kënites."
11David n'épargnait donc hommes ni femmes, pour les amener jusqu'à Gath, car ils pourraient, pensait-il, nous dénoncer en disant: "David a fait telle chose, et telle a été sa conduite tout le temps de sa résidence parmi les Philistins."
12Et Akhich comptait sur David, disant: "Certes, il s'est mis en mauvaise odeur auprès d'Israël, son peuple, et il restera mon sujet à jamais."

1Y DIJO David en su corazón: Al fin seré muerto algún día por la mano de Saúl: nada por tanto me será mejor que fugarme á la tierra de los Filisteos, para que Saúl se deje de mí, y no me ande buscando más por todos los términos de Israel, y así me escaparé de sus manos.
2Levantóse pues David, y con los seiscientos hombres que tenía consigo pasóse á Achîs hijo de Maoch, rey de Gath.
3Y moró David con Achîs en Gath, él y los suyos, cada uno con su familia: David con sus dos mujeres, Ahinoam Jezreelita, y Abigail, la que fué mujer de Nabal el del Carmelo.
4Y vino la nueva á Saúl que David se había huído á Gath, y no lo buscó más.
5Y David dijo á Achîs: Si he hallado ahora gracia en tus ojos, séame dado lugar en algunas de las ciudades de la tierra, donde habite: porque ¿ha de morar tu siervo contigo en la ciudad real?
6Y Achîs le dió aquel día á Siclag. De aquí fué Siclag de los reyes de Judá hasta hoy.
7Y fué el número de los días que David habitó en la tierra de los Filisteos, cuatro meses y algunos días.
8Y subía David con los suyos, y hacían entradas en los Gesureos, y en los Gerzeos, y en los Amalecitas: porque estos habitaban de largo tiempo la tierra, desde como se va á Shur hasta la tierra de Egipto.
9Y hería David el país, y no dejaba á vida hombre ni mujer: y llevábase las ovejas y las vacas y los asnos y los camellos y las ropas; y volvía, y veníase á Achîs.
10Y decía Achîs: ¿Dónde habéis corrido hoy? Y David decía: Al mediodía de Judá, y al mediodía de Jerameel, ó contra el mediodía de Ceni.
11Ni hombre ni mujer dejaba á vida David, que viniese á Gath; diciendo: Porque no den aviso de nosotros, diciendo, Esto hizo David. Y esta era su costumbre todo el tiempo que moró en tierra de los Filisteos.
12Y Achîs creía á David, diciendo así: El se hace abominable en su pueblo de Israel, y será siempre mi siervo.

1And David said in his heart, I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul: there is nothing better for me than that I should speedily escape into the land of the Philistines; and Saul shall despair of me, to seek me any more in any coast of Israel: so shall I escape out of his hand.
2And David arose, and he passed over with the six hundred men that were with him unto Achish, the son of Maoch, king of Gath.
3And David dwelt with Achish at Gath, he and his men, every man with his household, even David with his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the Carmelitess, Nabal’s wife.
4And it was told Saul that David was fled to Gath: and he sought no more again for him.
5And David said unto Achish, If I have now found grace in thine eyes, let them give me a place in some town in the country, that I may dwell there: for why should thy servant dwell in the royal city with thee?
6Then Achish gave him Ziklag that day: wherefore Ziklag pertaineth unto the kings of Judah unto this day.
7And the time that David dwelt in the country of the Philistines was a full year and four months.
8And David and his men went up, and invaded the Geshurites, and the Gezrites, and the Amalekites: for those nations were of old the inhabitants of the land, as thou goest to Shur, even unto the land of Egypt.
9And David smote the land, and left neither man nor woman alive, and took away the sheep, and the oxen, and the asses, and the camels, and the apparel, and returned, and came to Achish.
10And Achish said, Whither have ye made a road to day? And David said, Against the south of Judah, and against the south of the Jerahmeelites, and against the south of the Kenites.
11And David saved neither man nor woman alive, to bring tidings to Gath, saying, Lest they should tell on us, saying, So did David, and so will be his manner all the while he dwelleth in the country of the Philistines.
12And Achish believed David, saying, He hath made his people Israel utterly to abhor him; therefore he shall be my servant for ever.
World English Bible
1David said in his heart, “I will now perish one day by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me than that I should escape into the land of the Philistines; and Saul will despair of me, to seek me any more in all the borders of Israel. So I will escape out of his hand.”
2David arose and passed over, he and the six hundred men who were with him, to Achish the son of Maoch, king of Gath.
3David lived with Achish at Gath, he and his men, every man with his household, even David with his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess and Abigail the Carmelitess, Nabal’s wife.
4Saul was told that David had fled to Gath, so he stopped looking for him.
5David said to Achish, “If now I have found favor in your eyes, let them give me a place in one of the cities in the country, that I may dwell there. For why should your servant dwell in the royal city with you?”
6Then Achish gave him Ziklag that day: therefore Ziklag belongs to the kings of Judah to this day.
7The number of the days that David lived in the country of the Philistines was a full year and four months.
8David and his men went up and raided the Geshurites, the Girzites, and the Amalekites; for those were the inhabitants of the land who were of old, on the way to Shur, even to the land of Egypt.
9David struck the land, and saved no man or woman alive, and took away the sheep, the cattle, the donkeys, the camels, and the clothing. Then he returned, and came to Achish.
10Achish said, “Against whom have you made a raid today?” David said, “Against the South of Judah, against the South of the Jerahmeelites, and against the South of the Kenites.”
11David saved neither man nor woman alive to bring them to Gath, saying, “Lest they should tell about us, saying, ‘David did this, and this has been his way all the time he has lived in the country of the Philistines.’”
12Achish believed David, saying, “He has made his people Israel utterly to abhor him. Therefore he will be my servant forever.”
