1Und man berichtete David und sprach: Siehe, die Philister streiten wider Kehila, und sie plündern die Tennen.
2Und David befragte Jehova und sprach: Soll ich hinziehen und diese Philister schlagen? Und Jehova sprach zu David: Ziehe hin, und schlage die Philister und rette Kehila.
3Aber die Männer Davids sprachen zu ihm: Siehe, wir fürchten uns hier in Juda, und wie sollten wir gar nach Kehila wider die Schlachtreihen der Philister ziehen?
4Da befragte David wiederum Jehova, und Jehova antwortete ihm und sprach: Mache dich auf, ziehe nach Kehila hinab; denn ich werde die Philister in deine Hand geben.
5Und David zog mit seinen Männern nach Kehila und stritt wider die Philister, und er trieb ihr Vieh weg und richtete eine große Niederlage unter ihnen an. Und so rettete David die Bewohner von Kehila. -
6Es geschah aber, als Abjathar, der Sohn Ahimelechs, zu David nach Kehila floh, da kam er hinab mit einem Ephod in seiner Hand.
7Und es wurde Saul berichtet, daß David nach Kehila gekommen wäre. Da sprach Saul: Gott hat ihn verworfen und in meine Hand überliefert; denn er hat sich eingeschlossen, indem er in eine Stadt mit Toren und Riegeln gekommen ist.
8Und Saul rief alles Volk, zum Streit auf, um nach Kehila hinabzuziehen, David und seine Männer zu belagern.
9Und als David erfuhr, daß Saul Böses wider ihn schmiedete, da sprach er zu Abjathar, dem Priester: Bringe das Ephod her!
10Und David sprach: Jehova, Gott Israels! Dein Knecht hat für gewiß gehört, daß Saul danach trachtet, nach Kehila zu kommen, um die Stadt zu verderben um meinetwillen.
11Werden die Bürger von Kehila mich seiner Hand ausliefern? Wird Saul herabziehen, wie dein Knecht gehört hat? Jehova, Gott Israels, tue es doch deinem Knechte kund! Und Jehova sprach: Er wird herabziehen.
12Und David sprach: Werden die Bürger von Kehila mich und meine Männer der Hand Sauls ausliefern? Und Jehova sprach: Sie werden dich ausliefern.
13Da machten David und seine Männer sich auf, bei sechshundert Mann, und sie zogen von Kehila aus und gingen, wohin sie gehen konnten. Und es wurde Saul berichtet, daß David aus Kehila entronnen wäre; da stand er davon ab auszuziehen.
14Und David blieb in der Wüste auf den Bergfesten, und er blieb auf dem Gebirge in der Wüste Siph. Und Saul suchte ihn alle Tage, aber Gott gab ihn nicht in seine Hand.
15Und David sah, daß Saul ausgezogen war, um nach seinem Leben zu trachten; und David war in der Wüste Siph, im Walde.
16Da machte sich Jonathan, der Sohn Sauls, auf und ging zu David in den Wald und stärkte seine Hand in Gott.
17Und er sprach zu ihm: Fürchte dich nicht! Denn die Hand meines Vaters Saul wird dich nicht finden; und du wirst König werden über Israel, und ich werde der zweite nach dir sein; und auch mein Vater Saul weiß es so.
18Und sie schlossen beide einen Bund vor Jehova. Und David blieb im Walde, und Jonathan ging nach seinem Hause.
19Da zogen die Siphiter zu Saul hinauf, nach Gibea, und sprachen: Hält sich David nicht bei uns verborgen auf den Bergfesten im Walde, auf dem Hügel Hakila, der zur Rechten der Wildnis ist?
20Und nun, o König, wenn irgend deine Seele es begehrt, herabzukommen, so komm herab; und an uns ist es, ihn der Hand des Königs auszuliefern.
21Und Saul sprach: Gesegnet seiet ihr von Jehova, daß ihr euch meiner erbarmt habt!
22Gehet doch hin, vergewissert euch noch mehr, und erkundet und sehet seinen Ort, wo sein Fuß weilt, und wer ihn daselbst gesehen hat; denn man hat mir gesagt, er sei sehr listig.
23Und besehet und kundet alle Schlupfwinkel aus, wo er sich versteckt hält, und kommet wieder zu mir mit sicherer Kunde; und ich werde mit euch gehen. Und es soll geschehen, wenn er im Lande ist, so will ich ihn aufspüren unter allen Tausenden Judas!
24Und sie machten sich auf und gingen nach Siph, vor Saul her. David und seine Männer waren aber in der Wüste Maon, in der Ebene, zur Rechten der Wildnis.
25Und Saul und seine Männer zogen hin, um ihn zu suchen; und man berichtete es David, und er ging den Felsen hinab und blieb in der Wüste Maon. Und als Saul es hörte, jagte er David nach in die Wüste Maon.
26Und Saul ging auf dieser Seite des Berges, David aber und seine Männer auf jener Seite des Berges. Und es geschah, als David eilte, Saul zu entgehen, und Saul und seine Männer David und seine Männer umringten, um sie zu fangen,
27da kam ein Bote zu Saul und sprach: Eile und komm, denn die Philister sind ins Land eingefallen!
28Da kehrte Saul um von der Verfolgung Davids und zog den Philistern entgegen. Daher nannte man jenen Ort: Selach-Hammachlekoth.
29(024:1) Und David zog von dannen hinauf und blieb auf den Bergfesten von Engedi.

1Y DIERON aviso á David, diciendo: He aquí que los Filisteos combaten á Keila, y roban las eras.
2Y David consultó á Jehová, diciendo: ¿Iré á herir á estos Filisteos? Y Jehová respondió á David: Ve, hiere á los Filisteos, y libra á Keila.
3Mas los que estaban con David le dijeron: He aquí que nosotros aquí en Judá estamos con miedo; ¿cuánto más si fuéremos á Keila contra el ejército de los Filisteos?
4Entonces David volvió á consultar á Jehová. Y Jehová le respondió, y dijo: Levántate, desciende á Keila, que yo entregaré en tus manos á los Filisteos.
5Partióse pues David con sus hombres á Keila, y peleó contra los Filisteos, y trajo antecogidos sus ganados, é hiriólos con grande estrago: y libró David á los de Keila.
6Y aconteció que, huyendo Abiathar hijo de Ahimelech á David á Keila, vino también con él el ephod.
7Y fué dicho á Saúl que David había venido á Keila. Entonces dijo Saúl: Dios lo ha traído á mis manos; porque él está encerrado, habiéndose metido en ciudad con puertas y cerraduras.
8Y convocó Saúl todo el pueblo á la batalla, para descender á Keila, y poner cerco á David y á los suyos.
9Mas entendiendo David que Saúl ideaba el mal contra él, dijo á Abiathar sacerdote: Trae el ephod.
10Y dijo David: Jehová Dios de Israel, tu siervo tiene entendido que Saúl trata de venir contra Keila, á destruir la ciudad por causa mía.
11¿Me entregarán los vecinos de Keila en sus manos? ¿descenderá Saúl, como tu siervo tiene oído? Jehová Dios de Israel, ruégote que lo declares á tu siervo. Y Jehová dijo: Sí, descenderá.
12Dijo luego David: ¿Me entregarán los vecinos de Keila á mí y á mis hombres en manos de Saúl? Y Jehová respondió: Te entregarán.
13David entonces se levantó con sus hombres, que eran como seiscientos, y saliéronse de Keila, y fuéronse de una parte á otra. Y vino la nueva á Saúl de como David se había escapado de Keila; y dejó de salir.
14Y David se estaba en el desierto en peñas, y habitaba en un monte en el desierto de Ziph; y buscábalo Saúl todos los días, mas Dios no lo entregó en sus manos.
15Viendo pues David que Saúl había salido en busca de su alma, estábase él en el bosque en el desierto de Ziph.
16Entonces se levantó Jonathán hijo de Saúl, y vino á David en el bosque, y confortó su mano en Dios.
17Y díjole: No temas, que no te hallará la mano de Saúl mi padre, y tú reinarás sobre Israel, y yo seré segundo después de ti; y aun Saúl mi padre así lo sabe.
18Y entrambos hicieron alianza delante de Jehová: y David se quedó en el bosque, y Jonathán se volvió á su casa.
19Y subieron los de Ziph á decir á Saúl en Gabaa: ¿No está David escondido en nuestra tierra en las peñas del bosque, en el collado de Hachîla que está á la mano derecha del desierto?
20Por tanto, rey, desciende ahora presto, según todo el deseo de tu alma, y nosotros lo entregaremos en la mano del rey.
21Y Saúl dijo: Benditos seáis vosotros de Jehová, que habéis tenido compasión de mí:
22Id pues ahora, apercibid aún, considerad y ved su lugar donde tiene el pie, y quién lo haya visto allí; porque se me ha dicho que él es en gran manera astuto.
23Considerad pues, y ved todos los escondrijos donde se oculta, y volved á mí con la certidumbre, y yo iré con vosotros: que si él estuviere en la tierra, yo le buscaré entre todos los millares de Judá.
24Y ellos se levantaron, y se fueron á Ziph delante de Saúl. Mas David y su gente estaban en el desierto de Maón, en la llanura que está á la diestra del desierto.
25Y partióse Saúl con su gente á buscarlo; pero fué dado aviso á David, y descendió á la peña, y quedóse en el desierto de Maón. Lo cual como Saúl oyó, siguió á David al desierto de Maón.
26Y Saúl iba por el un lado del monte, y David con los suyos por el otro lado del monte: y dábase priesa David para ir delante de Saúl; mas Saúl y los suyos habían encerrado á David y á su gente para tomarlos.
27Entonces vino un mensajero á Saúl, diciendo: Ven luego, porque los Filisteos han hecho una irrupción en el país.
28Volvióse por tanto Saúl de perseguir á David, y partió contra los Filisteos. Por esta causa pusieron á aquel lugar por nombre Sela-hammah-lecoth.

1Then they told David, saying, Behold, the Philistines fight against Keilah, and they rob the threshingfloors.
2Therefore David enquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go and smite these Philistines? And the LORD said unto David, Go, and smite the Philistines, and save Keilah.
3And David’s men said unto him, Behold, we be afraid here in Judah: how much more then if we come to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?
4Then David enquired of the LORD yet again. And the LORD answered him and said, Arise, go down to Keilah; for I will deliver the Philistines into thine hand.
5So David and his men went to Keilah, and fought with the Philistines, and brought away their cattle, and smote them with a great slaughter. So David saved the inhabitants of Keilah.
6And it came to pass, when Abiathar the son of Ahimelech fled to David to Keilah, that he came down with an ephod in his hand.
7And it was told Saul that David was come to Keilah. And Saul said, God hath delivered him into mine hand; for he is shut in, by entering into a town that hath gates and bars.
8And Saul called all the people together to war, to go down to Keilah, to besiege David and his men.
9And David knew that Saul secretly practised mischief against him; and he said to Abiathar the priest, Bring hither the ephod.
10Then said David, O LORD God of Israel, thy servant hath certainly heard that Saul seeketh to come to Keilah, to destroy the city for my sake.
11Will the men of Keilah deliver me up into his hand? will Saul come down, as thy servant hath heard? O LORD God of Israel, I beseech thee, tell thy servant. And the LORD said, He will come down.
12Then said David, Will the men of Keilah deliver me and my men into the hand of Saul? And the LORD said, They will deliver thee up.
13Then David and his men, which were about six hundred, arose and departed out of Keilah, and went whithersoever they could go. And it was told Saul that David was escaped from Keilah; and he forbare to go forth.
14And David abode in the wilderness in strong holds, and remained in a mountain in the wilderness of Ziph. And Saul sought him every day, but God delivered him not into his hand.
15And David saw that Saul was come out to seek his life: and David was in the wilderness of Ziph in a wood.
16And Jonathan Saul’s son arose, and went to David into the wood, and strengthened his hand in God.
17And he said unto him, Fear not: for the hand of Saul my father shall not find thee; and thou shalt be king over Israel, and I shall be next unto thee; and that also Saul my father knoweth.
18And they two made a covenant before the LORD: and David abode in the wood, and Jonathan went to his house.
19Then came up the Ziphites to Saul to Gibeah, saying, Doth not David hide himself with us in strong holds in the wood, in the hill of Hachilah, which is on the south of Jeshimon?
20Now therefore, O king, come down according to all the desire of thy soul to come down; and our part shall be to deliver him into the king’s hand.
21And Saul said, Blessed be ye of the LORD; for ye have compassion on me.
22Go, I pray you, prepare yet, and know and see his place where his haunt is, and who hath seen him there: for it is told me that he dealeth very subtilly.
23See therefore, and take knowledge of all the lurking places where he hideth himself, and come ye again to me with the certainty, and I will go with you: and it shall come to pass, if he be in the land, that I will search him out throughout all the thousands of Judah.
24And they arose, and went to Ziph before Saul: but David and his men were in the wilderness of Maon, in the plain on the south of Jeshimon.
25Saul also and his men went to seek him. And they told David: wherefore he came down into a rock, and abode in the wilderness of Maon. And when Saul heard that, he pursued after David in the wilderness of Maon.
26And Saul went on this side of the mountain, and David and his men on that side of the mountain: and David made haste to get away for fear of Saul; for Saul and his men compassed David and his men round about to take them.
27But there came a messenger unto Saul, saying, Haste thee, and come; for the Philistines have invaded the land.
28Wherefore Saul returned from pursuing after David, and went against the Philistines: therefore they called that place Sela-hammahlekoth.
29And David went up from thence, and dwelt in strong holds at En-gedi.
World English Bible
1David was told, “Behold, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah, and are robbing the threshing floors.”
2Therefore David inquired of the LORD, saying, “Shall I go and strike these Philistines?” The LORD said to David, “Go strike the Philistines, and save Keilah.”
3David’s men said to him, “Behold, we are afraid here in Judah. How much more then if we go to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?”
4Then David inquired of the LORD yet again. The LORD answered him, and said, “Arise, go down to Keilah; for I will deliver the Philistines into your hand.”
5David and his men went to Keilah and fought with the Philistines, and brought away their livestock, and killed them with a great slaughter. So David saved the inhabitants of Keilah.
6When Abiathar the son of Ahimelech fled to David to Keilah, he came down with an ephod in his hand.
7Saul was told that David had come to Keilah. Saul said, “God has delivered him into my hand, for he is shut in by entering into a town that has gates and bars.”
8Saul summoned all the people to war, to go down to Keilah to besiege David and his men.
9David knew that Saul was devising mischief against him. He said to Abiathar the priest, “Bring the ephod here.”
10Then David said, “O LORD, the God of Israel, your servant has surely heard that Saul seeks to come to Keilah to destroy the city for my sake.
11Will the men of Keilah deliver me up into his hand? Will Saul come down, as your servant has heard? LORD, the God of Israel, I beg you, tell your servant.” The LORD said, “He will come down.”
12Then David said, “Will the men of Keilah deliver me and my men into the hand of Saul?” The LORD said, “They will deliver you up.”
13Then David and his men, who were about six hundred, arose and departed out of Keilah and went wherever they could go. Saul was told that David had escaped from Keilah; and he gave up going there.
14David stayed in the wilderness in the strongholds, and remained in the hill country in the wilderness of Ziph. Saul sought him every day, but God didn’t deliver him into his hand.
15David saw that Saul had come out to seek his life. David was in the wilderness of Ziph in the woods.
16Jonathan, Saul’s son, arose and went to David into the woods, and strengthened his hand in God.
17He said to him, “Don’t be afraid, for the hand of Saul my father won’t find you; and you will be king over Israel, and I will be next to you; and Saul my father knows that also.”
18They both made a covenant before the LORD. Then David stayed in the woods and Jonathan went to his house.
19Then the Ziphites came up to Saul to Gibeah, saying, “Doesn’t David hide himself with us in the strongholds in the woods, in the hill of Hachilah, which is on the south of the desert?
20Now therefore, O king, come down. According to all the desire of your soul to come down; and our part will be to deliver him up into the king’s hand.”
21Saul said, “You are blessed by the LORD, for you have had compassion on me.
22Please go make yet more sure, and know and see his place where his haunt is, and who has seen him there; for I have been told that he is very cunning.
23See therefore, and take knowledge of all the lurking places where he hides himself; and come again to me with certainty, and I will go with you. It shall happen, if he is in the land, that I will search him out among all the thousands of Judah.”
24They arose, and went to Ziph before Saul; but David and his men were in the wilderness of Maon, in the Arabah on the south of the desert.
25Saul and his men went to seek him. When David was told, he went down to the rock, and stayed in the wilderness of Maon. When Saul heard that, he pursued David in the wilderness of Maon.
26Saul went on this side of the mountain, and David and his men on that side of the mountain; and David hurried to get away for fear of Saul, for Saul and his men surrounded David and his men to take them.
27But a messenger came to Saul, saying, “Hurry and come, for the Philistines have made a raid on the land!”
28So Saul returned from pursuing David, and went against the Philistines. Therefore they called that place Sela Hammahlekoth.
29David went up from there and lived in the strongholds of En Gedi.
