E fece nuovo giuramento a Davidde. Ma questi disse: Sa certamente il padre tuo, com'io ho trovata grazia negli occhi tuoi, e dirà: Gionata non dee saper questo, affinchè non ne abbia dispiacere. Per altro (viva il Signore, e viva l'anima tua) un solo gradino, per così dire, v'ha tra me, e la morte.
Y David volvió á jurar, diciendo: Tu padre sabe claramente que yo he hallado gracia delante de tus ojos, y dirá: No sepa esto Jonathán, porque no tenga pesar: y ciertamente, vive Jehová y vive tu alma, que apenas hay un paso entre mí y la muerte.
And David sware moreover, and said, Thy father certainly knoweth that I have found grace in thine eyes; and he saith, Let not Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved: but truly as the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, there is but a step between me and death.
David swore moreover, and said, “Your father knows well that I have found favor in your eyes; and he says, ‘Don’t let Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved;’ but truly as the LORD lives, and as your soul lives, there is but a step between me and death.”
