1Und es war ein Mann von Ramathajim Zophim, von dem Gebirge Ephraim, und sein Name war Elkanah, ein Sohn Jerochams, des Sohnes Elihu, des Sohnes Tochu, des Sohnes Zuph, ein Ephrathiter.
2Und dieser hatte zwei Weiber, der Name der einen war Channah, und der Name der zweiten Peninnah. Und Peninnah hatte Kinder, Channah aber hatte keine Kinder.
3Und derselbige Mann ging von Jahr zu Jahr hinauf aus seiner Stadt, um anzubeten und Jehovah der Heerscharen zu opfern in Schiloh. Und daselbst waren die zwei Söhne Elis, Chophni und Pinechas, Priester Jehovahs.
4Und es geschah an dem Tage, da Elkanah opferte, gab er seinem Weibe Peninnah und allen ihren Söhnen und Töchtern Anteile.
5Und der Channah gab er ein Anteil unmutig; denn er liebte Channah, aber Jehovah hatte ihr den Mutterschoß verschlossen.
6Und es reizte sie ihre Bedrängerin, auch reizte sie sie, daß sie aufbrauste, weil Jehovah ihren Mutterschoß verschlossen hätte.
7Und so tat er Jahr für Jahr; sooft sie hinaufging in das Haus Jehovahs, reizte sie dieselbe, also daß sie weinte und nicht aß.
8Und ihr Mann Elkanah sprach zu ihr: Channah, warum weinst du, und warum ißt du nicht? Und warum, ist dein Herz böse; bin ich dir nicht besser als zehn Söhne?
9Und Channah stand auf, nachdem sie in Schiloh gegessen und nachdem sie getrunken hatte. Und Eli, der Priester, saß auf dem Stuhle an dem Türpfosten von Jehovahs Tempel.
10Sie aber war in der Seele erbittert und betete zu Jehovah und weinte sehr.
11Und sie gelobte ein Gelübde und sprach: Jehovah der Heerscharen, wenn Du ansiehst das Elend deiner Magd, und mein gedenkst und nicht vergissest Deiner Magd, und Deiner Magd einen Männersamen gibst, so gebe ich ihn Jehovah für alle Tage seines Lebens, und auf sein Haupt soll kein Schermesser kommen.
12Und es geschah, als sie viel betete vor Jehovah, hielt Eli auf ihren Mund.
13Und Channah, sie redete in ihrem Herzen, nur ihre Lippen bewegten sich, und ihre Stimme hörte man nicht. Und Eli dachte, sie sei eine Betrunkene.
14Und Eli sprach zu ihr: Wie lange willst du betrunken sein, tue deinen Wein weg von dir.
15Und Channah antwortete und sprach: Nicht doch, mein Herr! Ein Weib betrübten Geistes bin ich, und Wein und starkes Getränke habe ich nicht getrunken, aber meine Seele habe ich vor Jehovah ausgeschüttet.
16Gib deine Magd nicht für eine Belialstochter aus, denn wegen der Menge meines Kummers und Unmutes habe ich bisher geredet.
17Und Eli antwortete und sprach: Gehe hin im Frieden, und der Gott Israels wird dir geben die Bitte, die du von Ihm erbeten hast.
18Sie aber sprach: Möge deine Dienstmagd Gnade finden in deinen Augen! Und das Weib ging ihres Weges und aß, und ihr Angesicht war nicht mehr wie zuvor.
19Und sie standen früh am Morgen auf und beteten an vor Jehovah und kehrten zurück und kamen in ihr Haus nach Ramah; und Elkanah erkannte Channah, sein Weib, und Jehovah gedachte ihrer.
20Und es geschah im Verlaufe der Tage, da empfing Channah und gebar einen Sohn und nannte seinen Namen Samuel, denn ich habe ihn von Jehovah erbeten.
21Und der Mann Elkanah ging hinauf und sein ganzes Haus, daß er Jehovah opferte das jährliche Opfer und sein Gelübde.
22Channah aber ging nicht hinauf, sondern sprach zu ihrem Manne: Bis der Junge entwöhnt ist, dann will ich ihn bringen, und er soll erscheinen vor Jehovahs Angesicht und bleiben daselbst ewiglich.
23Und Elkanah, ihr Mann sprach zu ihr: Tue, was gut ist in deinen Augen; bleibe, bis du ihn entwöhnst; nur möge Jehovah bestätigen Sein Wort; und das Weib blieb, und säugte ihren Sohn, bis sie ihn entwöhnte.
24Und sie brachte ihn mit sich hinauf, sowie sie ihn entwöhnt hatte, mit drei Farren und einem Ephah Mehl und einem Schlauche Wein, und brachte ihn nach dem Haus Jehovahs nach Schiloh, und der Junge war noch jung.
25Und sie schlachteten den Farren, und sie brachten den Jungen zu Eli.
26Und sie sprach: Bitte, mein Herr! Beim Leben deiner Seele, mein Herr, ich bin das Weib, das hier bei dir gestanden, um zu Jehovah zu beten.
27Um den Jungen hier habe ich gebeten. Und Jehovah gab mir meine Bitte, die ich von Ihm erbeten.
28Und ich gewähre ihn auch Jehovah für alle Tage, die er da ist, weil er von Jehovah erbeten ist; und sie beteten daselbst Jehovah an.

1HUBO un varón de Ramathaim de Sophim, del monte de Ephraim, que se llamaba Elcana, hijo de Jeroham, hijo de Eliú, hijo de Thohu, hijo de Suph, Ephrateo.
2Y tenía él dos mujeres; el nombre de la una era Anna, y el nombre de la otra Peninna. Y Peninna tenía hijos, mas Anna no los tenía.
3Y subía aquel varón todos los años de su ciudad, á adorar y sacrificar á Jehová de los ejércitos en Silo, donde estaban dos hijos de Eli, Ophni y Phinees, sacerdotes de Jehová.
4Y cuando venía el día, Elcana sacrificaba, y daba á Peninna su mujer, y á todos sus hijos y á todas sus hijas, á cada uno su parte.
5Mas á Anna daba una parte escogida; porque amaba á Anna, aunque Jehová había cerrado su matriz.
6Y su competidora la irritaba, enojándola y entristeciéndola, porque Jehová había cerrado su matriz.
7Y así hacía cada año: cuando subía á la casa de Jehová, enojaba así á la otra; por lo cual ella lloraba, y no comía.
8Y Elcana su marido le dijo: Anna, ¿por qué lloras? ¿y por qué no comes? ¿y por qué está afligido tu corazón? ¿No te soy yo mejor que diez hijos?
9Y levantóse Anna después que hubo comido y bebido en Silo; y mientras el sacerdote Eli estaba sentado en una silla junto á un pilar del templo de Jehová,
10Ella con amargura de alma oró á Jehová, y lloró abundantemente.
11E hizo voto, diciendo: Jehová de los ejércitos, si te dignares mirar la aflicción de tu sierva, y te acordares de mí, y no te olvidares de tu sierva, mas dieres á tu sierva un hijo varón, yo lo dedicaré á Jehová todos los días de su vida, y no subirá navaja sobre su cabeza.
12Y fué que como ella orase largamente delante de Jehová, Eli estaba observando la boca de ella.
13Mas Anna hablaba en su corazón, y solamente se movían sus labios, y su voz no se oía; y túvola Eli por borracha.
14Entonces le dijo Eli: ¿Hasta cuándo estarás borracha?; digiere tu vino.
15Y Anna le respondió, diciendo: No, señor mío: mas yo soy una mujer trabajada de espíritu: no he bebido vino ni sidra, sino que he derramado mi alma delante de Jehová.
16No tengas á tu sierva por una mujer impía: porque por la magnitud de mis congojas y de mi aflicción he hablado hasta ahora.
17Y Eli respondió, y dijo: Ve en paz, y el Dios de Israel te otorgue la petición que le has hecho.
18Y ella dijo: Halle tu sierva gracia delante de tus ojos. Y fuése la mujer su camino, y comió, y no estuvo más triste.
19Y levantándose de mañana, adoraron delante de Jehová, y volviéronse, y vinieron á su casa en Ramatha. Y Elcana conoció á Anna su mujer, y Jehová se acordó de ella.
20Y fué que corrido el tiempo, después de haber concebido Anna, parió un hijo, y púsole por nombre Samuel, diciendo: Por cuanto lo demandé á Jehová.
21Después subió el varón Elcana, con toda su familia, á sacrificar á Jehová el sacrificio acostumbrado, y su voto.
22Mas Anna no subió, sino dijo á su marido: Yo no subiré hasta que el niño sea destetado; para que lo lleve y sea presentado delante de Jehová, y se quede allá para siempre.
23Y Elcana su marido le respondió: Haz lo que bien te pareciere; quédate hasta que lo destetes: solamente Jehová cumpla su palabra. Y quedóse la mujer, y crió su hijo hasta que lo destetó.
24Y después que lo hubo destetado, llevólo consigo, con tres becerros, y un epha de harina, y una vasija de vino, y trájolo á la casa de Jehová en Silo: y el niño era pequeño.
25Y matando el becerro, trajeron el niño á Eli.
26Y ella dijo: ¡Oh, señor mío! vive tu alma, señor mío, yo soy aquella mujer que estuvo aquí junto á ti orando á Jehová.
27Por este niño oraba, y Jehová me dió lo que le pedí.
28Yo pues le vuelvo también á Jehová: todos los días que viviere, será de Jehová. Y adoró allí á Jehová.

1Now there was a certain man of Ramathaim-zophim, of mount Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephrathite:
2And he had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah: and Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.
3And this man went up out of his city yearly to worship and to sacrifice unto the LORD of hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, the priests of the LORD, were there.
4And when the time was that Elkanah offered, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions:
5But unto Hannah he gave a worthy portion; for he loved Hannah: but the LORD had shut up her womb.
6And her adversary also provoked her sore, for to make her fret, because the LORD had shut up her womb.
7And as he did so year by year, when she went up to the house of the LORD, so she provoked her; therefore she wept, and did not eat.
8Then said Elkanah her husband to her, Hannah, why weepest thou? and why eatest thou not? and why is thy heart grieved? am not I better to thee than ten sons?
9So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest sat upon a seat by a post of the temple of the LORD.
10And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the LORD, and wept sore.
11And she vowed a vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.
12And it came to pass, as she continued praying before the LORD, that Eli marked her mouth.
13Now Hannah, she spake in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard: therefore Eli thought she had been drunken.
14And Eli said unto her, How long wilt thou be drunken? put away thy wine from thee.
15And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit: I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but have poured out my soul before the LORD.
16Count not thine handmaid for a daughter of Belial: for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief have I spoken hitherto.
17Then Eli answered and said, Go in peace: and the God of Israel grant thee thy petition that thou hast asked of him.
18And she said, Let thine handmaid find grace in thy sight. So the woman went her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no more sad.
19And they rose up in the morning early, and worshipped before the LORD, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the LORD remembered her.
20Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of the LORD.
21And the man Elkanah, and all his house, went up to offer unto the LORD the yearly sacrifice, and his vow.
22But Hannah went not up; for she said unto her husband, I will not go up until the child be weaned, and then I will bring him, that he may appear before the LORD, and there abide for ever.
23And Elkanah her husband said unto her, Do what seemeth thee good; tarry until thou have weaned him; only the LORD establish his word. So the woman abode, and gave her son suck until she weaned him.
24And when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bullocks, and one ephah of flour, and a bottle of wine, and brought him unto the house of the LORD in Shiloh: and the child was young.
25And they slew a bullock, and brought the child to Eli.
26And she said, Oh my lord, as thy soul liveth, my lord, I am the woman that stood by thee here, praying unto the LORD.
27For this child I prayed; and the LORD hath given me my petition which I asked of him:
28Therefore also I have lent him to the LORD; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the LORD. And he worshipped the LORD there.

1Now there was a certain man of Ramathaim Zophim, of the hill country of Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite.
2He had two wives. The name of one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah. Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.
3This man went up out of his city from year to year to worship and to sacrifice to the LORD of Armies in Shiloh. The two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, priests to the LORD, were there.
4When the day came that Elkanah sacrificed, he gave portions to Peninnah his wife and to all her sons and her daughters;
5but he gave a double portion to Hannah, for he loved Hannah, but the LORD had shut up her womb.
6Her rival provoked her severely, to irritate her, because the LORD had shut up her womb.
7So year by year, when she went up to the LORD’s house, her rival provoked her. Therefore she wept, and didn’t eat.
8Elkanah her husband said to her, “Hannah, why do you weep? Why don’t you eat? Why is your heart grieved? Am I not better to you than ten sons?”
9So Hannah rose up after they had finished eating and drinking in Shiloh. Now Eli the priest was sitting on his seat by the doorpost of the LORD’s temple.
10She was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to the LORD, weeping bitterly.
11She vowed a vow, and said, “LORD of Armies, if you will indeed look at the affliction of your servant and remember me, and not forget your servant, but will give to your servant a boy, then I will give him to the LORD all the days of his life, and no razor shall come on his head.”
12As she continued praying before the LORD, Eli saw her mouth.
13Now Hannah spoke in her heart. Only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard. Therefore Eli thought she was drunk.
14Eli said to her, “How long will you be drunk? Get rid of your wine!”
15Hannah answered, “No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit. I have not been drinking wine or strong drink, but I poured out my soul before the LORD.
16Don’t consider your servant a wicked woman; for I have been speaking out of the abundance of my complaint and my provocation.”
17Then Eli answered, “Go in peace; and may the God of Israel grant your petition that you have asked of him.”
18She said, “Let your servant find favor in your sight.” So the woman went her way and ate; and her facial expression wasn’t sad any more.
19They rose up in the morning early and worshiped the LORD, then returned and came to their house to Ramah. Then Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the LORD remembered her.
20When the time had come, Hannah conceived, and bore a son; and she named him Samuel, saying, “Because I have asked him of the LORD.”
21The man Elkanah, and all his house, went up to offer to the LORD the yearly sacrifice and his vow.
22But Hannah didn’t go up, for she said to her husband, “Not until the child is weaned; then I will bring him, that he may appear before the LORD, and stay there forever.”
23Elkanah her husband said to her, “Do what seems good to you. Wait until you have weaned him; only may the LORD establish his word.” So the woman waited and nursed her son until she weaned him.
24When she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bulls, and one ephah of meal, and a container of wine, and brought him to the LORD’s house in Shiloh. The child was young.
25They killed the bull, and brought the child to Eli.
26She said, “Oh, my lord, as your soul lives, my lord, I am the woman who stood by you here, praying to the LORD.
27I prayed for this child, and the LORD has given me my petition which I asked of him.
28Therefore I have also given him to the LORD. As long as he lives he is given to the LORD.” He worshiped the LORD there.
