1Lorsque David eut achevé de parler à Saül, l'âme de Jonathas s'attacha à l'âme de David, et Jonathas l'aima comme son âme.
2Ce même jour, Saül prit David, et ne le laissa pas retourner dans la maison de son père.
3Et Jonathas fit alliance avec David, parce qu'il l'aimait comme son âme.
4Jonathas se dépouilla du manteau qu'il portait et le donna à David, ainsi que son armure, jusqu'à son épée, jusqu'à son arc et jusqu'à sa ceinture.
5Quand David sortait, partout où l'envoyait Saül, il réussissait ; Saül le mit à la tête des gens de guerre, et il plaisait à tout le peuple, même aux serviteurs du roi.
6Quand ils firent leur entrée, lorsque David revint après avoir tué le Philistin, les femmes sortirent de toutes les villes d'Israël, en chantant et en dansant, au-devant du roi Saül, avec joie, au son des tambourins et des harpes.
7Les femmes, les danseuses, se répondaient et disaient : Saül a tué ses mille, et David ses dix mille.
8Saül fut très irrité, et ces paroles lui déplurent : il dit : « On donne dix mille à David, et à moi on donne les mille ! Il ne lui manque plus que la royauté. »
9Et Saül voyait David de mauvais œil, à partir de ce jour.
10Le lendemain, un mauvais esprit envoyé de Dieu fondit sur Saül, et il eut des transports au milieu de sa maison. David jouait de la harpe, comme les autres jours, et Saül avait sa lance à la main.
11Saül brandit sa lance, disant en lui-même : « Je frapperai David et la paroi » ; mais David se détourna de devant lui par deux fois.
12Saül craignait David, car Yahweh était avec David et s'était retiré de Saül, —
13et Saül l'éloigna de sa personne, et il l'établit chef de mille hommes ; et David sortait et rentrait devant le peuple.
14David se montrait habile dans toutes ses entreprises, et Yahweh était avec lui.
15Saül, voyant qu'il était très habile, avait peur de lui ;
16mais tout Israël et Juda aimaient David, parce qu'il sortait et rentrait devant eux.
17Saül dit à David : « Voici que je te donnerai pour femme ma fille aînée Mérob ; seulement montre-toi plein de vaillance et soutiens les guerres de Yahweh. » Or Saül se disait : « Que ma main ne soit pas sur lui, mais que sur lui soit la main des Philistins ! »
18David répondit à Saül : « Qui suis-je et qu'est-ce que ma vie, qu'est-ce que la famille de mon père en Israël, pour que je devienne le gendre du roi ? »
19Mais, au moment de donner Mérob, fille de Saül, à David, on la donna pour femme à Hadriel de Molathi.
20Michol, fille de Saül, aima David. On en informa Saül, et cela lui plut.
21Saül se disait : « Je la lui donnerai, afin qu'elle soit pour lui un piège, et que la main des Philistins soit sur lui. » Et Saül dit à David, pour la seconde fois : « Tu vas aujourd'hui devenir mon gendre. »
22Et Saül donna cet ordre à ses serviteurs : « Parlez confidentiellement à David, et dites-lui : Le roi t'a pris en affection, et tous ses serviteurs t'aiment ; sois donc maintenant le gendre du roi. »
23Les serviteurs de Saül dirent ces paroles aux oreilles de David, et David répondit : « Est-ce peu de chose à vos yeux que de devenir le gendre du roi ? Moi, je suis un homme pauvre et d'humble origine. »
24Les serviteurs de Saül lui firent rapport en ces termes : « David a tenu ce langage. »
25Saül dit : « Vous parlerez ainsi à David : Le roi ne demande aucune dot, mais cent prépuces de Philistins, pour être vengé des ennemis du roi. » Saül pensait faire ainsi tomber David dans la main des Philistins.
26Les serviteurs de Saül rapportèrent ces paroles à David, et cela plut à David, à savoir devenir le gendre du roi.
27Les jours n'étaient pas accomplis que David, s'étant levé, partit avec ses gens et tua aux Philistins deux cents hommes ; et David apporta leurs prépuces et en remit au roi le nombre complet, afin de devenir son gendre. Alors Saül lui donna pour femme sa fille Michol.
28Saül vit et comprit que Yahweh était avec David ; et Michol, fille de Saül, aimait David.
29Et Saül craignit David de plus en plus, et Saül fut hostile à David tous les jours.
30Les princes des Philistins faisaient des excursions et, chaque fois qu'ils sortaient, David par son habileté remportait plus de succès que tous les serviteurs de Saül ; et son nom devint très célèbre.

1Y ASÍ que él hubo acabado de hablar con Saúl, el alma de Jonathán fué ligada con la de David, y amólo Jonathán como á su alma.
2Y Saúl le tomó aquel día, y no le dejó volver á casa de su padre.
3E hicieron alianza Jonathán y David, porque él le amaba como á su alma.
4Y Jonathán se desnudó la ropa que tenía sobre sí, y dióla á David, y otras ropas suyas, hasta su espada, y su arco, y su talabarte.
5Y salía David á donde quiera que Saúl le enviaba, y portábase prudentemente. Hízolo por tanto Saúl capitán de gente de guerra, y era acepto en los ojos de todo el pueblo, y en los ojos de los criados de Saúl.
6Y aconteció que como volvían ellos, cuando David tornó de matar al Filisteo, salieron las mujeres de todas las ciudades de Israel cantando, y con danzas, con tamboriles, y con alegrías y sonajas, á recibir al rey Saúl.
7Y cantaban las mujeres que danzaba, y decían: Saúl hirió sus miles, y David sus diez miles.
8Y enojóse Saúl en gran manera, y desagradó esta palabra en sus ojos, y dijo: A David dieron diez miles, y á mí miles; no le falta más que el reino.
9Y desde aquel día Saúl miró de través á David.
10Otro día aconteció que el espíritu malo de parte de Dios tomó á Saúl, y mostrábase en su casa con trasportes de profeta: y David tañía con su mano como los otros días; y estaba una lanza á mano de Saúl.
11Y arrojó Saúl la lanza, diciendo: Enclavaré á David en la pared. Y dos veces se apartó de él David.
12Mas Saúl se temía de David, por cuanto Jehová era con él, y se había apartado de Saúl.
13Apartólo pues Saúl de sí, é hízole capitán de mil; y salía y entraba delante del pueblo.
14Y David se conducía prudentemente en todos sus negocios, y Jehová era con él.
15Y viendo Saúl que se portaba tan prudentemente, temíase de él.
16Mas todo Israel y Judá amaba á David, porque él salía y entraba delante de ellos.
17Y dijo Saúl á David: He aquí yo te daré á Merab mi hija mayor por mujer: solamente que me seas hombre valiente, y hagas las guerras de Jehová. Mas Saúl decía: No será mi mano contra él, mas la mano de los Filisteos será contra él.
18Y David respondió á Saúl: ¿Quién soy yo, ó qué es mi vida, ó la familia de mi padre en Israel, para ser yerno del rey?
19Y venido el tiempo en que Merab, hija de Saúl, se había de dar á David, fué dada por mujer á Adriel Meholatita.
20Mas Michâl la otra hija de Saúl amaba á David; y fué dicho á Saúl, lo cual plugo en sus ojos.
21Y Saúl dijo: Yo se la daré, para que le sea por lazo, y para que la mano de los Filisteos sea contra él. Dijo pues Saúl á David: Con la otra serás mi yerno hoy.
22Y mandó Saúl á sus criados: Hablad en secreto á David, diciéndole: He aquí, el rey te ama, y todos sus criados te quieren bien; sé pues yerno del rey.
23Y los criados de Saúl hablaron estas palabras á los oídos de David. Y David dijo: ¿Paréceos á vosotros que es poco ser yerno del rey, siendo yo un hombre pobre y de ninguna estima?
24Y los criados de Saúl le dieron la respuesta diciendo: Tales palabras ha dicho David.
25Y Saúl dijo: Decid así á David: No está el contentamiento del rey en el dote, sino en cien prepucios de Filisteos, para que sea tomada venganza de los enemigos del rey. Mas Saúl pensaba echar á David en manos de los Filisteos.
26Y como sus criados declararon á David estas palabras, plugo la cosa en los ojos de David, para ser yerno del rey. Y como el plazo no era aún cumplido,
27Levantóse David, y partióse con su gente, é hirió doscientos hombres de los Filisteos; y trajo David los prepucios de ellos, y entregáronlos todos al rey, para que él fuese hecho yerno del rey. Y Saúl le dió á su hija Michâl por mujer.
28Pero Saúl, viendo y considerando que Jehová era con David, y que su hija Michâl lo amaba,
29Temióse más de David; y fué Saúl enemigo de David todos los días.
30Y salían los príncipes de los Filisteos; y como ellos salían, portábase David más prudentemente que todos los siervos de Saúl: y era su nombre muy ilustre.

1And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.
2And Saul took him that day, and would let him go no more home to his father’s house.
3Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.
4And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle.
5And David went out whithersoever Saul sent him, and behaved himself wisely: and Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul’s servants.
6And it came to pass as they came, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women came out of all cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with tabrets, with joy, and with instruments of musick.
7And the women answered one another as they played, and said, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands.
8And Saul was very wroth, and the saying displeased him; and he said, They have ascribed unto David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed but thousands: and what can he have more but the kingdom?
9And Saul eyed David from that day and forward.
10And it came to pass on the morrow, that the evil spirit from God came upon Saul, and he prophesied in the midst of the house: and David played with his hand, as at other times: and there was a javelin in Saul’s hand.
11And Saul cast the javelin; for he said, I will smite David even to the wall with it. And David avoided out of his presence twice.
12And Saul was afraid of David, because the LORD was with him, and was departed from Saul.
13Therefore Saul removed him from him, and made him his captain over a thousand; and he went out and came in before the people.
14And David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and the LORD was with him.
15Wherefore when Saul saw that he behaved himself very wisely, he was afraid of him.
16But all Israel and Judah loved David, because he went out and came in before them.
17And Saul said to David, Behold my elder daughter Merab, her will I give thee to wife: only be thou valiant for me, and fight the LORD’s battles. For Saul said, Let not mine hand be upon him, but let the hand of the Philistines be upon him.
18And David said unto Saul, Who am I? and what is my life, or my father’s family in Israel, that I should be son in law to the king?
19But it came to pass at the time when Merab Saul’s daughter should have been given to David, that she was given unto Adriel the Meholathite to wife.
20And Michal Saul’s daughter loved David: and they told Saul, and the thing pleased him.
21And Saul said, I will give him her, that she may be a snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him. Wherefore Saul said to David, Thou shalt this day be my son in law in the one of the twain.
22And Saul commanded his servants, saying, Commune with David secretly, and say, Behold, the king hath delight in thee, and all his servants love thee: now therefore be the king’s son in law.
23And Saul’s servants spake those words in the ears of David. And David said, Seemeth it to you a light thing to be a king’s son in law, seeing that I am a poor man, and lightly esteemed?
24And the servants of Saul told him, saying, On this manner spake David.
25And Saul said, Thus shall ye say to David, The king desireth not any dowry, but an hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to be avenged of the king’s enemies. But Saul thought to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines.
26And when his servants told David these words, it pleased David well to be the king’s son in law: and the days were not expired.
27Wherefore David arose and went, he and his men, and slew of the Philistines two hundred men; and David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full tale to the king, that he might be the king’s son in law. And Saul gave him Michal his daughter to wife.
28And Saul saw and knew that the LORD was with David, and that Michal Saul’s daughter loved him.
29And Saul was yet the more afraid of David; and Saul became David’s enemy continually.
30Then the princes of the Philistines went forth: and it came to pass, after they went forth, that David behaved himself more wisely than all the servants of Saul; so that his name was much set by.

1When he had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.
2Saul took him that day, and wouldn’t let him go home to his father’s house any more.
3Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.
4Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was on him and gave it to David with his clothing, even including his sword, his bow, and his sash.
5David went out wherever Saul sent him, and behaved himself wisely; and Saul set him over the men of war. It was good in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul’s servants.
6As they came, when David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, the women came out of all the cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet King Saul with tambourines, with joy, and with instruments of music.
7The women sang to one another as they played, and said, “Saul has slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands.”
8Saul was very angry, and this saying displeased him. He said, “They have credited David with ten thousands, and they have only credited me with thousands. What can he have more but the kingdom?”
9Saul watched David from that day and forward.
10On the next day, an evil spirit from God came mightily on Saul, and he prophesied in the middle of the house. David played with his hand, as he did day by day. Saul had his spear in his hand;
11and Saul threw the spear, for he said, “I will pin David to the wall!” David escaped from his presence twice.
12Saul was afraid of David, because the LORD was with him, and had departed from Saul.
13Therefore Saul removed him from his presence, and made him his captain over a thousand; and he went out and came in before the people.
14David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and the LORD was with him.

26When his servants told David these words, it pleased David well to be the king’s son-in-law. Before the deadline,
27David arose and went, he and his men, and killed two hundred men of the Philistines. Then David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full number to the king, that he might be the king’s son-in-law. Then Saul gave him Michal his daughter as wife.
28Saul saw and knew that the LORD was with David; and Michal, Saul’s daughter, loved him.
29Saul was even more afraid of David; and Saul was David’s enemy continually.
30Then the princes of the Philistines went out; and as often as they went out, David behaved himself more wisely than all the servants of Saul, so that his name was highly esteemed.
