17Und saul redete david an: Hier meine älteste Tochter Merab, die geb ich dir zum Weibe - aber du mußt dich mir als Held erweisen und die Kämpfe Jahwes führen! Saul dachte nämlich: Ich mag nicht selbst Hand an ihn legen, die Philister mögen Hand an ihn legen!

17Y dijo Saúl á David: He aquí yo te daré á Merab mi hija mayor por mujer: solamente que me seas hombre valiente, y hagas las guerras de Jehová. Mas Saúl decía: No será mi mano contra él, mas la mano de los Filisteos será contra él.

17And Saul said to David, Behold my elder daughter Merab, her will I give thee to wife: only be thou valiant for me, and fight the LORD’s battles. For Saul said, Let not mine hand be upon him, but let the hand of the Philistines be upon him.
