1DANN nahm Samuel die Ölflasche und goss sie über sein Haupt aus, küsste ihn und sprach: Hat dich nicht der Herr zum Fürsten über sein Volk gesalbt? Du sollst herrschen über das Volk des Herrn, und du sollst es erretten aus der Hand seiner Feinde ringsumher. Dies aber sei dir das Zeichen, dass dich der Herr zum Fürsten über sein Eigentum gesalbt hat:
2Wenn du heute von mir gehst, wirst du beim Grab der Rahel an der Grenze Benjamins, in Zelzah, zwei Männer treffen; die werden zu dir sagen: Die Eselinnen sind gefunden, die du zu suchen gegangen bist; und siehe, dein Vater denkt gar nicht mehr an die Eselinnen, sondern er sorgt sich um euch und spricht: Was soll ich wegen meines Sohnes tun? (a) 1Mo 35:19
3Und wenn du von dort weitergehst und zu der Eiche Thabor kommst, so werden dir daselbst drei Männer begegnen, die zu Gott nach Bethel hinaufziehen; einer trägt drei Böcklein, der andere drei Laibe Brot, der dritte einen Schlauch Wein.
4Die werden dich grüssen und dir zwei Brote geben; die sollst du von ihnen annehmen.
5Darnach wirst du nach dem Gibea Gottes kommen, wo der Vogt der Philister wohnt. Und wenn du daselbst in die Stadt hineingehst, wirst du auf eine Schar Propheten stossen, die von der Höhe herabkommen; vor ihnen her ertönt Harfe, Handpauke, Flöte und Zither, während sie selbst in Verzückung sind.
6Alsdann wird der Geist des Herrn über dich kommen, und du wirst mit ihnen in Verzückung geraten und wirst dich in einen andern Menschen verwandeln.
7Wenn dir nun diese Zeichen eintreffen, so tue, was sich dir darbietet; denn Gott ist mit dir!
8Gehe mir voran nach Gilgal hinab; ich werde dann zu dir kommen, um Brandopfer und Heilsopfer darzubringen. Sieben Tage sollst du warten, bis ich zu dir komme und dir sage, was du tun sollst. (a) 1Sa 13:8
9Als er nun den Rücken wandte, um von Samuel wegzugehen, wandelte ihm Gott das Herz, und es trafen alle diese Zeichen an jenem Tage ein.
10Sobald sie von dort nach Gibea kamen, da begegnete ihm auch schon eine Schar Propheten, und der Geist Gottes kam über ihn, und er geriet in Verzückung unter ihnen. (a) 1Sa 19:20
11Als aber alle, die ihn von früher kannten, sahen, wie er mit den Propheten in Verzückung war, sprachen die Leute zueinander: Was ist denn mit dem Sohn des Kis geschehen? Ist Saul auch unter den Propheten?
12Und einer von dort hob an und sprach: Wer ist denn ihr Vater? Daher ist es zum Sprichwort geworden: Ist Saul auch unter den Propheten? (a) 1Sa 19:24
13Als aber seine Verzückung zu Ende war, kam er nach Hause.
14Da sprach der Oheim Sauls zu ihm und seinem Knechte: Wo seid ihr hingegangen? Er antwortete: Die Eselinnen zu suchen; und als wir sahen, dass sie nirgends waren, da gingen wir zu Samuel hinein.
15Da sprach Sauls Oheim: Tue mir doch kund, was Samuel zu euch gesagt hat.
16Saul antwortete seinem Oheim: Er hat uns kundgetan, dass die Eselinnen gefunden seien. Aber was Samuel vom Königtum gesagt hatte, tat er ihm nicht kund.
17SAMUEL aber berief das Volk zum Herrn nach Mizpa. (a) 1Sa 7:5; Ri 20:1
18Und er sprach zu den Israeliten: So spricht der Herr, der Gott Israels: Ich habe Israel aus Ägypten heraufgeführt und euch errettet aus der Gewalt der Ägypter und aller Königreiche, die euch bedrängten.
19Ihr aber habt heute euren Gott verworfen, der euch aus allen euren Nöten und Drangsalen erlöst hat, und habt gesagt: "Nein! einen König sollst du über uns setzen!" Wohlan, so tretet vor den Herrn nach Stämmen und nach Tausenden. (a) 1Sa 8:7
20Als nun Samuel alle Stämme Israels herzutreten liess, da traf es den Stamm Benjamin. (1) d.h. das Los.
21Und als er den Stamm Benjamin herzutreten liess, Geschlecht um Geschlecht, da traf es das Geschlecht Matri; und als er das Geschlecht Matri Mann für Mann herzutreten liess, da traf es Saul, den Sohn des Kis. Wie man ihn aber suchte, war er nicht zu finden.
22Da befragten sie den Herrn nochmals: Ist der Mann überhaupt hergekommen? Der Herr antwortete: Ja; er hält sich beim Gepäck versteckt.
23Da liefen sie hin und holten ihn von dort. Als er aber mitten unter das Volk trat, da überragte er alles Volk um Haupteslänge.
24Und Samuel sprach zum ganzen Volk: Seht ihr, wen der Herr erwählt hat? Seinesgleichen ist ja nicht im ganzen Volke! Da jauchzte alles Volk und rief: Es lebe der König!
25Samuel aber verkündete dem Volk das Königrecht und schrieb es in ein Buch und legte es vor dem Herrn nieder. Darnach entliess Samuel das ganze Volk, einen jeden in sein Haus. (a) 1Sa 8:9
26Auch Saul ging heim nach Gibea, und mit ihm die Tapfern, denen Gott das Herz gerührt hatte.
27Einige Nichtswürdige aber sprachen: Was kann der uns helfen? und sie verachteten ihn und brachten ihm kein Geschenk.

2Hoy, después que te hayas apartado de mí, hallarás dos hombres junto al sepulcro de Rachêl, en el término de Benjamín, en Selsah, los cuales te dirán: Las asnas que habías ido á buscar, se han hallado; tu padre pues ha dejado ya el negocio de las asnas, si bien está angustioso por vosotros, diciendo: ¿Qué haré acerca de mi hijo?
3Y como de allí te fueres más adelante, y llegares á la campiña de Tabor, te saldrán al encuentro tres hombres que suben á Dios en Beth-el, llevando el uno tres cabritos, y el otro tres tortas de pan, y el tercero una vasija de vino:
4Los cuales, luego que te hayan saludado, te darán dos panes, los que tomarás de manos de ellos.
5De allí vendrás al collado de Dios donde está la guarnición de los Filisteos; y cuando entrares allá en la ciudad encontrarás una compañía de profetas que descienden del alto, y delante de ellos salterio, y adufe, y flauta, y arpa, y ellos profetizando:
6Y el espíritu de Jehová te arrebatará, y profetizarás con ellos, y serás mudado en otro hombre.
7Y cuando te hubieren sobrevenido estas señales, haz lo que te viniere á la mano, porque Dios es contigo.
8Y bajarás delante de mí á Gilgal; y luego descenderé yo á ti para sacrificar holocaustos, é inmolar víctimas pacíficas. Espera siete días, hasta que yo venga á ti, y te enseñe lo que has de hacer.
9Y fué que así como tornó él su hombro para partirse de Samuel, mudóle Dios su corazón; y todas estas señales acaecieron en aquel día.
10Y cuando llegaron allá al collado, he aquí la compañía de los profetas que venía á encontrarse con él, y el espíritu de Dios lo arrebató, y profetizó entre ellos.
11Y aconteció que, cuando todos los que le conocían de ayer y de antes, vieron como profetizaba con los profetas, el pueblo decía el uno al otro: ¿Qué ha sucedido al hijo de Cis? ¿Saúl también entre los profetas?
12Y alguno de allí respondió, y dijo: ¿Y quién es el padre de ellos? Por esta causa se tornó en proverbio: ¿También Saúl entre los profetas?
13Y cesó de profetizar, y llegó al alto.
14Y un tío de Saúl dijo á él y á su criado: ¿Dónde fuisteis? Y él respondió: A buscar las asnas; y como vimos que no parecían, fuimos á Samuel.
15Y dijo el tío de Saúl: Yo te ruego me declares qué os dijo Samuel.
16Y Saúl respondió á su tío: Declarónos expresamente que las asnas habían parecido. Mas del negocio del reino, de que Samuel le había hablado, no le descubrió nada.
17Y Samuel convocó el pueblo á Jehová en Mizpa;
18Y dijo á los hijos de Israel: Así ha dicho Jehová el Dios de Israel: Yo saqué á Israel de Egipto, y os libré de mano de los Egipcios, y de mano de todos los reinos que os afligieron:
19Mas vosotros habéis desechado hoy á vuestro Dios, que os guarda de todas vuestras aflicciones y angustias, y dijisteis: No, sino pon rey sobre nosotros. Ahora pues, poneos delante de Jehová por vuestras tribus y por vuestros millares.
20Y haciendo allegar Samuel todas las tribus de Israel, fué tomada la tribu de Benjamín.
21E hizo llegar la tribu de Benjamín por sus linajes, y fué tomada la familia de Matri; y de ella fué tomado Saúl hijo de Cis. Y le buscaron, mas no fué hallado.
22Preguntaron pues otra vez á Jehová, si había aún de venir allí aquel varón. Y respondió Jehová: He aquí que él está escondido entre el bagaje.
23Entonces corrieron, y tomáronlo de allí, y puesto en medio del pueblo, desde el hombro arriba era más alto que todo el pueblo.
24Y Samuel dijo á todo el pueblo: ¿Habéis visto al que ha elegido Jehová, que no hay semejante á él en todo el pueblo? Entonces el pueblo clamó con alegría, diciendo: Viva el rey.
25Samuel recitó luego al pueblo el derecho del reino, y escribiólo en un libro, el cual guardó delante de Jehová.
26Y envió Samuel á todo el pueblo cada uno á su casa. Y Saúl también se fué á su casa en Gabaa, y fueron con él el ejército, el corazón de los cuales Dios había tocado.
27Pero los impíos dijeron: ¿Cómo nos ha de salvar éste? Y tuviéronle en poco, y no le trajeron presente: mas él disimuló.

1Then Samuel took a vial of oil, and poured it upon his head, and kissed him, and said, Is it not because the LORD hath anointed thee to be captain over his inheritance?
2When thou art departed from me to day, then thou shalt find two men by Rachel’s sepulchre in the border of Benjamin at Zelzah; and they will say unto thee, The asses which thou wentest to seek are found: and, lo, thy father hath left the care of the asses, and sorroweth for you, saying, What shall I do for my son?
3Then shalt thou go on forward from thence, and thou shalt come to the plain of Tabor, and there shall meet thee three men going up to God to Beth-el, one carrying three kids, and another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a bottle of wine:
4And they will salute thee, and give thee two loaves of bread; which thou shalt receive of their hands.
5After that thou shalt come to the hill of God, where is the garrison of the Philistines: and it shall come to pass, when thou art come thither to the city, that thou shalt meet a company of prophets coming down from the high place with a psaltery, and a tabret, and a pipe, and a harp, before them; and they shall prophesy:
6And the Spirit of the LORD will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man.
7And let it be, when these signs are come unto thee, that thou do as occasion serve thee; for God is with thee.
8And thou shalt go down before me to Gilgal; and, behold, I will come down unto thee, to offer burnt offerings, and to sacrifice sacrifices of peace offerings: seven days shalt thou tarry, till I come to thee, and shew thee what thou shalt do.
9And it was so, that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs came to pass that day.
10And when they came thither to the hill, behold, a company of prophets met him; and the Spirit of God came upon him, and he prophesied among them.
11And it came to pass, when all that knew him beforetime saw that, behold, he prophesied among the prophets, then the people said one to another, What is this that is come unto the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?
12And one of the same place answered and said, But who is their father? Therefore it became a proverb, Is Saul also among the prophets?
13And when he had made an end of prophesying, he came to the high place.
14And Saul’s uncle said unto him and to his servant, Whither went ye? And he said, To seek the asses: and when we saw that they were no where, we came to Samuel.
15And Saul’s uncle said, Tell me, I pray thee, what Samuel said unto you.
16And Saul said unto his uncle, He told us plainly that the asses were found. But of the matter of the kingdom, whereof Samuel spake, he told him not.
17And Samuel called the people together unto the LORD to Mizpeh;
18And said unto the children of Israel, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I brought up Israel out of Egypt, and delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all kingdoms, and of them that oppressed you:
19And ye have this day rejected your God, who himself saved you out of all your adversities and your tribulations; and ye have said unto him, Nay, but set a king over us. Now therefore present yourselves before the LORD by your tribes, and by your thousands.
20And when Samuel had caused all the tribes of Israel to come near, the tribe of Benjamin was taken.
21When he had caused the tribe of Benjamin to come near by their families, the family of Matri was taken, and Saul the son of Kish was taken: and when they sought him, he could not be found.
22Therefore they enquired of the LORD further, if the man should yet come thither. And the LORD answered, Behold, he hath hid himself among the stuff.
23And they ran and fetched him thence: and when he stood among the people, he was higher than any of the people from his shoulders and upward.
24And Samuel said to all the people, See ye him whom the LORD hath chosen, that there is none like him among all the people? And all the people shouted, and said, God save the king.
25Then Samuel told the people the manner of the kingdom, and wrote it in a book, and laid it up before the LORD. And Samuel sent all the people away, every man to his house.
26And Saul also went home to Gibeah; and there went with him a band of men, whose hearts God had touched.
27But the children of Belial said, How shall this man save us? And they despised him, and brought him no presents. But he held his peace.

1Then Samuel took the vial of oil and poured it on his head, then kissed him and said, “Hasn’t the LORD anointed you to be prince over his inheritance?
2When you have departed from me today, then you will find two men by Rachel’s tomb, on the border of Benjamin at Zelzah. They will tell you, ‘The donkeys which you went to look for have been found; and behold, your father has stopped caring about the donkeys and is anxious for you, saying, “What shall I do for my son?”’
3“Then you will go on forward from there, and you will come to the oak of Tabor. Three men will meet you there going up to God to Bethel: one carrying three young goats, and another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a container of wine.
4They will greet you and give you two loaves of bread, which you shall receive from their hand.
5“After that you will come to the hill of God, where the garrison of the Philistines is; and it will happen, when you have come there to the city, that you will meet a band of prophets coming down from the high place with a lute, a tambourine, a pipe, and a harp before them; and they will be prophesying.
6Then the LORD’s Spirit will come mightily on you, then you will prophesy with them and will be turned into another man.
7Let it be, when these signs have come to you, that you do what is appropriate for the occasion; for God is with you.
8“Go down ahead of me to Gilgal; and behold, I will come down to you to offer burnt offerings and to sacrifice sacrifices of peace offerings. Wait seven days, until I come to you and show you what you are to do.”
9It was so, that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart; and all those signs happened that day.
10When they came there to the hill, behold, a band of prophets met him; and the Spirit of God came mightily on him, and he prophesied among them.
11When all who knew him before saw that, behold, he prophesied with the prophets, then the people said to one another, “What is this that has come to the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?”
12One from the same place answered, “Who is their father?” Therefore it became a proverb, “Is Saul also among the prophets?”
13When he had finished prophesying, he came to the high place.
14Saul’s uncle said to him and to his servant, “Where did you go?” He said, “To seek the donkeys. When we saw that they were not found, we came to Samuel.”
15Saul’s uncle said, “Please tell me what Samuel said to you.”
16Saul said to his uncle, “He told us plainly that the donkeys were found.” But concerning the matter of the kingdom, of which Samuel spoke, he didn’t tell him.
17Samuel called the people together to the LORD to Mizpah;
18and he said to the children of Israel, “The LORD, the God of Israel, says ‘I brought Israel up out of Egypt and I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all the kingdoms that oppressed you.’
19But you have today rejected your God, who himself saves you out of all your calamities and your distresses; and you have said to him, ‘No! Set a king over us!’ Now therefore present yourselves before the LORD by your tribes and by your thousands.”
20So Samuel brought all the tribes of Israel near, and the tribe of Benjamin was chosen.
21He brought the tribe of Benjamin near by their families and the family of the Matrites was chosen. Then Saul the son of Kish was chosen; but when they looked for him, he could not be found.
22Therefore they asked of the LORD further, “Is there yet a man to come here?” The LORD answered, “Behold, he has hidden himself among the baggage.”
23They ran and got him there. When he stood among the people, he was higher than any of the people from his shoulders and upward.
24Samuel said to all the people, “Do you see him whom the LORD has chosen, that there is no one like him among all the people?” All the people shouted and said, “Long live the king!”
25Then Samuel told the people the regulations of the kingdom, and wrote it in a book and laid it up before the LORD. Samuel sent all the people away, every man to his house.
26Saul also went to his house in Gibeah; and the army went with him, whose hearts God had touched.
27But certain worthless fellows said, “How could this man save us?” They despised him, and brought him no tribute. But he held his peace.
