1 Reyes 6

Brenton's English Septuagint

1And it came to pass in the four hundred and fortieth year after the departure of the children of Israel out of Egypt, in the fourth year and second month Gr. Solomon reigning of the reign of king Solomon over Israel,

2And the house which the king built to the Lord Gr. its length forty in cubit, etc. was Heb. and Alex. 60 cubits forty cubits in length, and twenty cubits in breadth, and its height Heb. and Alex. 30 cubits five and twenty cubits.

3And the porch in front of the temple—twenty cubits was its length according to the breadth of the house in front of the house: and he built the house, and finished it.

4And he made to the house secret windows inclining inward.

5And Gr. upon against the wall of the house he set chambers round about Heb. and Alex. with (or against) the walls of the house round about the temple and the ark.

6The under side was five cubits broad, and the middle part six, and the third was seven cubits broad; for he formed an interval to the house round about without the house, that they might not touch the walls of the house.

7And the house was built in the construction of it with rough hewn stones: and there was not heard in the house in the building of it hammer Gr. and or axe, or any iron tool.

8And the porch of the under side was below the right wing of the house, and there was a winding ascent into the middle chamber, and from the middle to the third story.

9So he built the house and finished it; and he made the ceiling of the house with cedars.

10And he made the partitions through all the house, each five cubits high, and enclosed each partition with cedar boards.

11Alex. And the word of the Lord came to Solomon, saying,

12As for this house which thou art building, if thou wilt walk in my ordinances and execute my judgements, and keep all my commandments to walk in them, I will establish my word with thee which I spoke to David thy father.

13And I will dwell in the midst of the children of Israel, and will not forsake my people Israel.

14So Solomon built the house, and finished it.

15And he framed the walls of the house within with cedar boards, from the floor of the house and on to the inner walls and to the beams: he lined the parts enclosed with boards within, and compassed the inward parts of the house with planks of fir.

16And he built the twenty cubits from the top of the wall, one side from the floor to the beams, and he made it from the Or, shrine oracle to the most holy place.

17And the temple was forty cubits in extent, that the king commanded that they should take great and costly stones for the foundation of the house, and hewn stones. - In the fourth year he laid the foundation of the house of the Lord, in the month Ziu, even in the second month.

18And the men of Solomon, and the men of Chiram hewed the stones, and laid them for a foundation.

19in front of the oracle in the midst of the house within, in order to Gr. give put there the ark of the covenant of the Lord.

20The length was twenty cubits, and the breadth was twenty cubits, and the height of it was twenty cubits. And he covered it with Gr. and Heb. shut up; See 1 Ki 10 :21 perfect gold, and he made an altar in front of the oracle, and covered it with gold.

21And he covered the whole house with gold, Gr. to the finishing of the whole house till he had finished gilding the whole house. Alex.

22And all inside the oracle he overlaid with gold.

23And he made in the oracle two cherubs of ten cubits measured size.

24And the wing of one cherub was five cubits, and his other wing was five cubits; ten cubits Gr. from the tip of his wing to the tip of his wing from the tip of one wing to the tip of the other wing.

25Thus it was with the other cherub, both were alike finished with one measure.

26And the height of the one cherub was ten cubits, and so was it with the second cherub.

27And both the cherubs were in the midst of the innermost part of the house; and they spread out their wings, and one wing touched the wall, and the wing of the other cherub touched the other wall; and their wings in the midst of the house touched each other.

28And he covered the cherubs with gold.

29He graved all the walls of the house round about with the graving of cherubs, and he sculptured palm trees within and without the house.

30And he covered the floor of the house within and without with gold.

31And for the door-way of the oracle he made doors of juniper wood, there were porches in a four-fold way.

32

33

34In both the doors were planks of fir; the one door had two leaves and their hinges, and the other door had two leaves and turned on hinges,

35being carved with cherubs, and there were palm-trees and open flower-leaves, and it was overlaid with gold gilt upon the engraving.

36And he built the inner court, three rows of See 1 Ki 10:12 hewn stones, and a row of wrought cedar round about, (6:36AA) and he made the curtain of the court of the porch of the house that was in front of the temple.

37

38In the eleventh year, in the month Baal, this is the eighth month, the house was completed according to all its plan, and according to all its arrangement.

Reina-Valera 1909

12Esta casa que tú edificas, si anduvieres en mis estatutos, é hicieres mis derechos, y guardares todos mis mandamientos andando en ellos, yo tendré firme contigo mi palabra que hablé á David tu padre;

King James Version

1And it came to pass in the four hundred and eightieth year after the children of Israel were come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon’s reign over Israel, in the month Zif, which is the second month, that he began to build the house of the LORD.

2And the house which king Solomon built for the LORD, the length thereof was threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof twenty cubits, and the height thereof thirty cubits.

3And the porch before the temple of the house, twenty cubits was the length thereof, according to the breadth of the house; and ten cubits was the breadth thereof before the house.

4And for the house he made windows of narrow lights.

5And against the wall of the house he built chambers round about, against the walls of the house round about, both of the temple and of the oracle: and he made chambers round about:

6The nethermost chamber was five cubits broad, and the middle was six cubits broad, and the third was seven cubits broad: for without in the wall of the house he made narrowed rests round about, that the beams should not be fastened in the walls of the house.

7And the house, when it was in building, was built of stone made ready before it was brought thither: so that there was neither hammer nor axe nor any tool of iron heard in the house, while it was in building.

8The door for the middle chamber was in the right side of the house: and they went up with winding stairs into the middle chamber, and out of the middle into the third.

9So he built the house, and finished it; and covered the house with beams and boards of cedar.

10And then he built chambers against all the house, five cubits high: and they rested on the house with timber of cedar.

11And the word of the LORD came to Solomon, saying,

12Concerning this house which thou art in building, if thou wilt walk in my statutes, and execute my judgments, and keep all my commandments to walk in them; then will I perform my word with thee, which I spake unto David thy father:

13And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake my people Israel.

14So Solomon built the house, and finished it.

15And he built the walls of the house within with boards of cedar, both the floor of the house, and the walls of the cieling: and he covered them on the inside with wood, and covered the floor of the house with planks of fir.

16And he built twenty cubits on the sides of the house, both the floor and the walls with boards of cedar: he even built them for it within, even for the oracle, even for the most holy place.

17And the house, that is, the temple before it, was forty cubits long.

18And the cedar of the house within was carved with knops and open flowers: all was cedar; there was no stone seen.

19And the oracle he prepared in the house within, to set there the ark of the covenant of the LORD.

20And the oracle in the forepart was twenty cubits in length, and twenty cubits in breadth, and twenty cubits in the height thereof: and he overlaid it with pure gold; and so covered the altar which was of cedar.

21So Solomon overlaid the house within with pure gold: and he made a partition by the chains of gold before the oracle; and he overlaid it with gold.

22And the whole house he overlaid with gold, until he had finished all the house: also the whole altar that was by the oracle he overlaid with gold.

23And within the oracle he made two cherubims of olive tree, each ten cubits high.

24And five cubits was the one wing of the cherub, and five cubits the other wing of the cherub: from the uttermost part of the one wing unto the uttermost part of the other were ten cubits.

25And the other cherub was ten cubits: both the cherubims were of one measure and one size.

26The height of the one cherub was ten cubits, and so was it of the other cherub.

27And he set the cherubims within the inner house: and they stretched forth the wings of the cherubims, so that the wing of the one touched the one wall, and the wing of the other cherub touched the other wall; and their wings touched one another in the midst of the house.

28And he overlaid the cherubims with gold.

29And he carved all the walls of the house round about with carved figures of cherubims and palm trees and open flowers, within and without.

30And the floor of the house he overlaid with gold, within and without.

31And for the entering of the oracle he made doors of olive tree: the lintel and side posts were a fifth part of the wall.

32The two doors also were of olive tree; and he carved upon them carvings of cherubims and palm trees and open flowers, and overlaid them with gold, and spread gold upon the cherubims, and upon the palm trees.

33So also made he for the door of the temple posts of olive tree, a fourth part of the wall.

34And the two doors were of fir tree: the two leaves of the one door were folding, and the two leaves of the other door were folding.

35And he carved thereon cherubims and palm trees and open flowers: and covered them with gold fitted upon the carved work.

36And he built the inner court with three rows of hewed stone, and a row of cedar beams.

37In the fourth year was the foundation of the house of the LORD laid, in the month Zif:

38And in the eleventh year, in the month Bul, which is the eighth month, was the house finished throughout all the parts thereof, and according to all the fashion of it. So was he seven years in building it.

World English Bible

1In the four hundred and eightieth year after the children of Israel had come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon’s reign over Israel, in the month Ziv, which is the second month, he began to build the LORD’s house.

2The house which King Solomon built for the LORD had a length of sixty cubits, and its width twenty, and its height thirty cubits.

3The porch in front of the temple of the house had a length of twenty cubits, which was along the width of the house. Ten cubits was its width in front of the house.

4He made windows of fixed lattice work for the house.

5Against the wall of the house, he built floors all around, against the walls of the house all around, both of the temple and of the inner sanctuary; and he made side rooms all around.

6The lowest floor was five cubits wide, and the middle was six cubits wide, and the third was seven cubits wide; for on the outside he made offsets in the wall of the house all around, that the beams should not be inserted into the walls of the house.

7The house, when it was under construction, was built of stone prepared at the quarry; and no hammer or ax or any tool of iron was heard in the house while it was under construction.

8The door for the middle side rooms was in the right side of the house. They went up by winding stairs into the middle floor, and out of the middle into the third.

9So he built the house and finished it; and he covered the house with beams and planks of cedar.

10He built the floors all along the house, each five cubits high; and they rested on the house with timbers of cedar.

11The LORD’s word came to Solomon, saying,

12“Concerning this house which you are building, if you will walk in my statutes, and execute my ordinances, and keep all my commandments to walk in them, then I will establish my word with you, which I spoke to David your father.

13I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake my people Israel.”

14So Solomon built the house and finished it.

15He built the walls of the house within with boards of cedar; from the floor of the house to the walls of the ceiling, he covered them on the inside with wood. He covered the floor of the house with cypress boards.

16He built twenty cubits of the back part of the house with boards of cedar from the floor to the ceiling. He built this within, for an inner sanctuary, even for the most holy place.

17In front of the temple sanctuary was forty cubits long.

18There was cedar on the house within, carved with buds and open flowers. All was cedar. No stone was visible.

19He prepared an inner sanctuary in the middle of the house within, to set the ark of the LORD’s covenant there.

20Within the inner sanctuary was twenty cubits in length, and twenty cubits in width, and twenty cubits in its height. He overlaid it with pure gold. He covered the altar with cedar.

21So Solomon overlaid the house within with pure gold. He drew chains of gold across before the inner sanctuary, and he overlaid it with gold.

22He overlaid the whole house with gold, until all the house was finished. He also overlaid the whole altar that belonged to the inner sanctuary with gold.

23In the inner sanctuary he made two cherubim of olive wood, each ten cubits high.

24Five cubits was the length of one wing of the cherub, and five cubits was the length of the other wing of the cherub. From the tip of one wing to the tip of the other was ten cubits.

25The other cherub was ten cubits. Both the cherubim were of one measure and one form.

26One cherub was ten cubits high, and so was the other cherub.

27He set the cherubim within the inner house. The wings of the cherubim were stretched out, so that the wing of the one touched the one wall and the wing of the other cherub touched the other wall; and their wings touched one another in the middle of the house.

28He overlaid the cherubim with gold.

29He carved all the walls of the house around with carved figures of cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers, inside and outside.

30He overlaid the floor of the house with gold, inside and outside.

31For the entrance of the inner sanctuary, he made doors of olive wood. The lintel and door posts were a fifth part of the wall.

32So he made two doors of olive wood; and he carved on them carvings of cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers, and overlaid them with gold. He spread the gold on the cherubim and on the palm trees.

33He also made the entrance of the temple door posts of olive wood, out of a fourth part of the wall,

34and two doors of cypress wood. The two leaves of the one door were folding, and the two leaves of the other door were folding.

35He carved cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers; and he overlaid them with gold fitted on the engraved work.

36He built the inner court with three courses of cut stone and a course of cedar beams.

37The foundation of the LORD’s house was laid in the fourth year, in the month Ziv.

38In the eleventh year, in the month Bul, which is the eighth month, the house was finished throughout all its parts and according to all its specifications. So he spent seven years building it.
