1Salomon avait autorité sur tous les pays situés entre le Fleuve et le pays des Philistins, jusqu'à la frontière d'Egypte; ils lui apportaient des présents et lui restèrent soumis toute sa vie durant.
2L'entretien de Salomon exigeait chaque jour: trente kôr de fleur de farine et soixante kôr de farine commune;
3dix bœufs engraissés, vingt de libre pâture et cent pièces de menu bétail, sans compter les cerfs, chevreuils, daims et volailles grasses.
4Car il commandait à tout le pays en deçà du Fleuve et à tous les rois de cette région, depuis Tifsah jusqu'à Gaza, et était en paix avec tous ses voisins d'alentour.
5Juda et Israël, pendant toute la vie de Salomon, demeurèrent en sécurité, chacun sous sa vigne et sous son figuier, depuis Dan jusqu'à Bersabée.
6Salomon avait quarante mille attelages de chevaux pour ses chars et douze mille chevaux de selle.
7Les intendants en question, chacun dans son mois, pourvoyaient le roi Salomon et tous ceux qui étaient admis à sa table, sans les laisser manquer de rien.
8L'orge et la paille destinées aux chevaux et autres montures, ils les amenaient, chacun selon sa consigne, à l'endroit où se trouvait le roi.
9Or, Dieu avait donné à Salomon un très haut degré de sagesse et d'intelligence, et une compréhension aussi vaste que le sable qui est au bord de la mer.
10La sagesse de Salomon était plus grande que celle de tous les Orientaux, plus grande que toute la sagesse des Egyptiens.
11Plus savant que tout homme, plus qu'Ethan l'Ezrahite, que Hêman, Kalkol et Darda, les fils de Mahol, sa renommée s'étendit chez tous les peuples voisins.
12Il composa trois mille paraboles, mille cinq poésies;
13discourut sur les végétaux, depuis le cèdre du Liban jusqu'à l'hysope qui rampe sur la muraille; discourut sur les quadrupèdes, les oiseaux, les reptiles et les poissons.
14On venait de chez tous les peuples pour se rendre compte de la sagesse de Salomon, de la part de tous les rois de la terre qui avaient entendu parler de sa sagesse.
15Hiram, roi de Tyr, envoya ses serviteurs à Salomon, lors- qu'il eut appris qu'on l'avait sacré roi à la place de son père; car, de tout temps, Hiram avait été ami de David.
16Et Salomon fit dire à Hiram:
17"Tu sais que David, mon père, n'a pu édifier une maison en l'honneur de l'Eternel, son Dieu, à cause des guerres que ses ennemis lui ont suscitées sans cesse, jusqu'à ce que l'Eternel les eût mis sous ses pieds.
18Mais à présent, je suis, grâce à l'Eternel, mon Dieu, en paix avec tous les peuples qui m'entourent; plus d'ennemi, plus d'obstacles fâcheux.
19Je projette donc d'édifier une maison en l'honneur de l'Eternel, mon Dieu, selon ce qu'il a dit à David, mon père, en ces termes: Ton fils, que je te donnerai pour successeur au trône, c'est lui qui bâtira la maison en mon honneur.
20Et maintenant, donne des ordres pour qu'on me coupe des cèdres du Liban; mes travailleurs aideront les tiens, dont je te paierai le salaire selon ce que tu me diras. Car, tu le sais, il n'y a personne chez nous qui soit habile à couper les arbres comme les Sidoniens."
21Lorsque Hiram eut connaissance du message de Salomon, il s'en réjouit fort et dit: "Béni soit l'Eternel d'avoir donné à David un fils capable de gouverner ce grand peuple!"
22Et il manda ce qui suit à Salomon: "J'ai reçu ton message; je ferai tout ce que tu désires, en ce qui concerne et le bois de cèdre et le bois de cyprès.
23Mes serviteurs les transporteront du Liban à la mer; je les ferai assembler en radeaux, qui iront par mer jusqu'à l'endroit que tu me désigneras; là je les ferai disjoindre, et tu en prendras livraison. De ton côté, tu me satisferas en assurant l'entretien de ma maison."
24Hiram fournit ainsi à Salomon du bois de cèdre et du bois de cyprès, autant qu'il en voulait;
25et Salomon fournit à Hiram, pour l'entretien de sa maison, vingt mille kôr de froment et vingt kôr d'huile d'olives concassées; voilà ce qu'il lui fournissait chaque année.
26Le Seigneur avait doué Salomon de sagesse, comme il le lui avait promis; Hiram et Salomon vivaient en paix, et ils conclurent entre eux une alliance.
27Le roi Salomon leva un contingent sur la totalité d'Israël, contingent qui se monta à trente mille hommes.
28Il les envoya au Liban, dix mille hommes par mois à tour de rôle; ils passaient un mois sur le Liban et deux mois dans leurs foyers; Adoniram dirigeait le service.
29Salomon employa soixante-dix mille hommes pour porter les fardeaux, et quatre-vingt mille pour extraire les pierres de la montagne,
30indépendamment des inspecteurs préposés par Salomon aux travaux, trois mille trois cents hommes, chargés de la police des travailleurs.
31Sur l'ordre du roi, on tira des carrières de grosses et lourdes pierres, des pierres de taille, pour les fondations du temple.
32Et les ouvriers de Salomon et ceux de Hiram et les Ghibléens équarrissaient et façonnaient le bois et la pierre pour l'édification du temple.

1HIRAM rey de Tiro envió también sus siervos á Salomón, luego que oyó que lo habían ungido por rey en lugar de su padre: porque Hiram había siempre amado á David.
2Entonces Salomón envió á decir á Hiram:
3Tú sabes como mi padre David no pudo edificar casa al nombre de Jehová su Dios, por las guerras que le cercaron, hasta que Jehová puso sus enemigos bajo las plantas de sus pies.
4Ahora Jehová mi Dios me ha dado reposo por todas partes; que ni hay adversarios, ni mal encuentro.
5Yo por tanto he determinado ahora edificar casa al nombre de Jehová mi Dios, como Jehová lo habló á David mi padre, diciendo: Tu hijo, que yo pondré en lugar tuyo en tu trono, él edificará casa á mi nombre.
6Manda pues ahora que me corten cedros del Líbano; y mis siervos estarán con los tuyos, y yo te daré por tus siervos el salario que tú dijeres: porque tú sabes bien que ninguno hay entre nosotros que sepa labrar la madera como los Sidonios.
7Y como Hiram oyó las palabras de Salomón, holgóse en gran manera, y dijo: Bendito sea hoy Jehová, que dió hijo sabio á David sobre este pueblo tan grande.
8Y envió Hiram á decir á Salomón: He oído lo que me mandaste á decir: yo haré todo lo que te pluguiere acerca de la madera de cedro, y la madera de haya.
9Mis siervos la llevarán desde el Líbano á la mar; y yo la pondré en balsas por la mar hasta el lugar que tú me señalares, y allí se desatará, y tú la tomarás: y tú harás mi voluntad en dar de comer á mi familia.
10Dió pues Hiram á Salomón madera de cedro y madera de haya todo lo que quiso.
11Y Salomón daba á Hiram veinte mil coros de trigo para el sustento de su familia, y veinte coros de aceite limpio: esto daba Salomón á Hiram cada un año.
12Dió pues Jehová á Salomón sabiduría como le había dicho: y hubo paz entre Hiram y Salomón, é hicieron alianza entre ambos.
13Y el rey Salomón impuso tributo á todo Israel, y el tributo fué de treinta mil hombres:
14Los cuales enviaba al Líbano de diez mil en diez mil, cada mes por su turno, viniendo así á estar un mes en el Líbano, y dos meses en sus casas: y Adoniram estaba sobre aquel tributo.
15Tenía también Salomón setenta mil que llevaban las cargas, y ochenta mil cortadores en el monte;
16Sin los principales oficiales de Salomón que estaban sobre la obra, tres mil y trescientos, los cuales tenían cargo del pueblo que hacía la obra.
17Y mandó el rey que trajesen grandes piedras, piedras de precio, para los cimientos de la casa, y piedras labradas.
18Y los albañiles de Salomón y los de Hiram, y los aparejadores, cortaron y aparejaron la madera y la cantería para labrar la casa.

1And Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants unto Solomon; for he had heard that they had anointed him king in the room of his father: for Hiram was ever a lover of David.
2And Solomon sent to Hiram, saying,
3Thou knowest how that David my father could not build an house unto the name of the LORD his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until the LORD put them under the soles of his feet.
4But now the LORD my God hath given me rest on every side, so that there is neither adversary nor evil occurrent.
5And, behold, I purpose to build an house unto the name of the LORD my God, as the LORD spake unto David my father, saying, Thy son, whom I will set upon thy throne in thy room, he shall build an house unto my name.
6Now therefore command thou that they hew me cedar trees out of Lebanon; and my servants shall be with thy servants: and unto thee will I give hire for thy servants according to all that thou shalt appoint: for thou knowest that there is not among us any that can skill to hew timber like unto the Sidonians.
7And it came to pass, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly, and said, Blessed be the LORD this day, which hath given unto David a wise son over this great people.
8And Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, I have considered the things which thou sentest to me for: and I will do all thy desire concerning timber of cedar, and concerning timber of fir.
9My servants shall bring them down from Lebanon unto the sea: and I will convey them by sea in floats unto the place that thou shalt appoint me, and will cause them to be discharged there, and thou shalt receive them: and thou shalt accomplish my desire, in giving food for my household.
10So Hiram gave Solomon cedar trees and fir trees according to all his desire.
11And Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand measures of wheat for food to his household, and twenty measures of pure oil: thus gave Solomon to Hiram year by year.
12And the LORD gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him: and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a league together.
13And king Solomon raised a levy out of all Israel; and the levy was thirty thousand men.
14And he sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month by courses: a month they were in Lebanon, and two months at home: and Adoniram was over the levy.
15And Solomon had threescore and ten thousand that bare burdens, and fourscore thousand hewers in the mountains;
16Beside the chief of Solomon’s officers which were over the work, three thousand and three hundred, which ruled over the people that wrought in the work.
17And the king commanded, and they brought great stones, costly stones, and hewed stones, to lay the foundation of the house.
18And Solomon’s builders and Hiram’s builders did hew them, and the stonesquarers: so they prepared timber and stones to build the house.

1Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants to Solomon, for he had heard that they had anointed him king in the place of his father, and Hiram had always loved David.
2Solomon sent to Hiram, saying,
3“You know that David my father could not build a house for the name of the LORD his God because of the wars which were around him on every side, until the LORD put his enemies under the soles of his feet.
4But now the LORD my God has given me rest on every side. There is no enemy and no evil occurrence.
5Behold, I intend to build a house for the name of the LORD my God, as the LORD spoke to David my father, saying, ‘Your son, whom I will set on your throne in your place shall build the house for my name.’
6Now therefore command that cedar trees be cut for me out of Lebanon. My servants will be with your servants; and I will give you wages for your servants according to all that you say. For you know that there is nobody among us who knows how to cut timber like the Sidonians.”
7When Hiram heard the words of Solomon, he rejoiced greatly, and said, “Blessed is the LORD today, who has given to David a wise son to rule over this great people.”
8Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, “I have heard the message which you have sent to me. I will do all your desire concerning timber of cedar, and concerning cypress timber.
9My servants will bring them down from Lebanon to the sea. I will make them into rafts to go by sea to the place that you specify to me, and will cause them to be broken up there, and you will receive them. You will accomplish my desire, in giving food for my household.”
10So Hiram gave Solomon cedar timber and cypress timber according to all his desire.
11Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand cors of wheat for food to his household, and twenty cors of pure oil. Solomon gave this to Hiram year by year.
12The LORD gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him. There was peace between Hiram and Solomon, and the two of them made a treaty together.
13King Solomon raised a levy out of all Israel; and the levy was thirty thousand men.
14He sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month by courses: for a month they were in Lebanon, and two months at home; and Adoniram was over the men subject to forced labor.
15Solomon had seventy thousand who bore burdens, and eighty thousand who were stone cutters in the mountains,
16besides Solomon’s chief officers who were over the work: three thousand three hundred who ruled over the people who labored in the work.
17The king commanded, and they cut out large stones, costly stones, to lay the foundation of the house with worked stone.
18Solomon’s builders and Hiram’s builders and the Gebalites cut them, and prepared the timber and the stones to build the house.
