1Salomón emparentó con el faraón, rey de Egipto, tomando por mujer a su hija. Y la llevó a Jerusalén para que viviera en la ciudad de David hasta que él pudiera terminar la edificación de su palacio, del templo del Señor y del muro alrededor de la ciudad.
2En aquel tiempo, el pueblo de Israel ofrecía sus sacrificios y ofrendas en altares sobre las colinas, porque el templo del Señor aún no había sido edificado.
3A pesar de que Salomón amaba al Señor y obedecía todas las instrucciones de su padre David, seguía acudiendo a los pequeños santuarios, que estaban en las colinas, a ofrecer sacrificios y quemar incienso.
4El más famoso de estos altares sobre una colina era el que estaba en Gabaón, y el rey fue allí y ofreció mil holocaustos.
5Esa noche, el Señor se le apareció en un sueño, y le dijo: ―Pídeme lo que quieras, que yo te lo daré.
6Salomón le respondió: ―Fuiste muy misericordioso con mi padre David, porque él era honesto, veraz y fiel a ti, y obedecía tus mandamientos. Y has continuado mostrándole tu misericordia, al haberle dado un hijo que se sentara en su trono.
7»Señor, Dios mío, ahora tú me has hecho rey en lugar de David, mi padre, pero soy como un niño que no conoce el camino que ha de seguir.
8Y aquí estoy entre tu pueblo escogido, un pueblo tan numeroso que es imposible contarlo.
9Dame sabiduría, para poder gobernar bien a tu pueblo y para tener un buen discernimiento de lo que es bueno o es malo. Porque, ¿quién con su propia capacidad puede cargar con una responsabilidad tan grande?
10El Señor miró con agrado esta petición, y se alegró de que Salomón hubiera pedido sabiduría.
11Por eso le respondió: ―Por cuanto has pedido sabiduría para gobernar a mi pueblo, y no has pedido una larga vida ni riquezas para ti, ni has pedido derrotar a tus enemigos,
12yo te daré lo que has pedido. Te daré una sabiduría como la que nadie ha tenido antes ni tendrá después.
13Y también te daré lo que no has pedido, esto es, riquezas y honor. Nadie en el mundo será tan rico y famoso como lo serás tú por el resto de tu vida.
14Y, si te mantienes en mi voluntad y obedeces mis mandamientos, como lo hizo tu padre David, entonces te permitiré vivir muchos años.
15Entonces Salomón despertó y comprendió que había tenido una visión en sueños. Regresó a Jerusalén y entró en el santuario. Y mientras estaba delante del cofre del pacto del Señor, ofreció holocaustos y ofrendas de paz. Luego invitó a todos sus siervos a un gran banquete.
16Poco después, dos prostitutas vinieron ante el rey a pedirle que pusiera fin a una disputa que había entre ellas.
17―Señor —comenzó a hablar una de ellas—, nosotras dos vivimos en la misma casa. Yo tuve un hijo, estando esta mujer conmigo. A los tres días, ella también tuvo un hijo.
18—
19Pero el niño de ella murió durante la noche, porque, dormida, se acostó sobre él y lo aplastó.
20Luego ella se levantó en la noche y tomó a mi hijo mientras yo dormía, y puso su hijo muerto en mis brazos, y el mío lo llevó a dormir con ella.
21En la mañana, cuando quise darle de mamar a mi hijo, descubrí que estaba muerto. Pero cuando hubo suficiente luz, lo observé bien y me di cuenta de que no era mi hijo.
22La otra mujer interrumpió: ―Ese sí era el hijo de ella. El niño vivo es el mío. ―No —dijo la primera mujer—, el muerto es tuyo y el que está vivo es el mío. Y de esta manera discutieron delante del rey.
23Entonces el rey dijo: ―Aclaremos las cosas: Ambas quieren el niño vivo, y cada una dice que el niño muerto pertenece a la otra.
24Entonces el rey ordenó que le llevaran una espada. Cuando le entregaron la espada, el rey dijo:
25―Partan en dos al niño vivo, y denle una mitad a cada una de estas mujeres.
26Entonces la mujer que realmente era la madre del hijo, y que lo amaba mucho, gritó: ―No, señor. Mejor dele el niño a esa mujer, pero no lo mate. Pero la otra mujer dijo: ―Bien, de esta manera no será tuyo ni mío; que lo dividan entre nosotras.
27Entonces el rey dijo: ―Denle el niño a la mujer que lo quiere vivo, porque ella es su madre.
28Pronto se difundió este suceso y la sabia decisión del rey por toda la nación, y todo el pueblo estaba asombrado, porque comprendieron la gran sabiduría que Dios le había dado al rey para hacer justicia.

1Y SALOMÓN hizo parentesco con Faraón rey de Egipto, porque tomó la hija de Faraón, y trájola á la ciudad de David, entre tanto que acababa de edificar su casa, y la casa de Jehová, y los muros de Jerusalem alrededor.
2Hasta entonces el pueblo sacrificaba en los altos; porque no había casa edificada al nombre de Jehová hasta aquellos tiempos.
3Mas Salomón amó á Jehová, andando en los estatutos de su padre David: solamente sacrificaba y quemaba perfumes en los altos.
4E iba el rey á Gabaón, porque aquél era el alto principal, y sacrificaba allí: mil holocaustos sacrificaba Salomón sobre aquel altar.
5Y aparecióse Jehová á Salomón en Gabaón una noche en sueños, y díjole Dios: Pide lo que quisieres que yo te dé.
6Y Salomón dijo: Tú hiciste gran misericordia á tu siervo David mi padre, según que él anduvo delante de ti en verdad, en justicia, y con rectitud de corazón para contigo: y tú le has guardado esta tu grande misericordia, que le diste hijo que se sentase en su trono, como sucede en este día.
7Ahora pues, Jehová Dios mío, tú has puesto á mí tu siervo por rey en lugar de David mi padre: y yo soy mozo pequeño, que no sé cómo entrar ni salir.
8Y tu siervo está en medio de tu pueblo al cual tú escogiste; un pueblo grande, que no se puede contar ni numerar por su multitud.
9Da pues á tu siervo corazón dócil para juzgar á tu pueblo, para discernir entre lo bueno y lo malo: porque ¿quién podrá gobernar este tu pueblo tan grande?
10Y agradó delante de Adonai que Salomón pidiese esto.
11Y díjole Dios: Porque has demandado esto, y no pediste para ti muchos días, ni pediste para ti riquezas, ni pediste la vida de tus enemigos, mas demandaste para ti inteligencia para oir juicio;
12He aquí lo he hecho conforme á tus palabras: he aquí que te he dado corazón sabio y entendido, tanto que no haya habido antes de ti otro como tú, ni después de ti se levantará otro como tú.
13Y aun también te he dado las cosas que no pediste, riquezas y gloria: tal, que entre los reyes ninguno haya como tú en todos tus días.
14Y si anduvieres en mis caminos, guardando mis estatutos y mis mandamientos, como anduvo David tu padre, yo alargaré tus días.
15Y como Salomón despertó, vió que era sueño: y vino á Jerusalem, y presentóse delante del arca del pacto de Jehová, y sacrificó holocaustos, é hizo pacíficos; hizo también banquete á todos sus siervos.
16En aquella sazón vinieron dos mujeres rameras al rey, y presentáronse delante de él.
17Y dijo la una mujer: ¡Ah, señor mío! yo y esta mujer morábamos en una misma casa, y yo parí estando con ella en la casa.
18Y aconteció al tercer día después que yo parí, que ésta parió también, y morábamos nosotras juntas; ninguno de fuera estaba en casa, sino nosotras dos en la casa.
19Y una noche el hijo de esta mujer murió, porque ella se acostó sobre él.
20Y levantóse á media noche, y tomó á mi hijo de junto á mí, estando yo tu sierva durmiendo, y púsolo á su lado, y púsome á mi lado su hijo muerto.
21Y como yo me levanté por la mañana para dar el pecho á mi hijo, he aquí que estaba muerto: mas observéle por la mañana, y vi que no era mi hijo, que yo había parido.
22Entonces la otra mujer dijo: No; mi hijo es el que vive, y tu hijo es el muerto. Y la otra volvió á decir: No; tu hijo es el muerto, y mi hijo es el que vive. Así hablaban delante del rey.
23El rey entonces dijo: Esta dice: Mi hijo es el que vive, y tu hijo es el muerto: y la otra dice, No, mas el tuyo es el muerto, y mi hijo es el que vive.
24Y dijo el rey: Traedme un cuchillo. Y trajeron al rey un cuchillo.
25En seguida el rey dijo: Partid por medio el niño vivo, y dad la mitad á la una, y la otra mitad á la otra.
26Entonces la mujer cuyo era el hijo vivo, habló al rey (porque sus entrañas se le conmovieron por su hijo), y dijo: ¡Ah, señor mío! dad á ésta el niño vivo, y no lo matéis. Mas la otra dijo: Ni á mí ni á ti; partidlo.
27Entonces el rey respondió, y dijo: Dad á aquélla el hijo vivo, y no lo matéis: ella es su madre.
28Y todo Israel oyó aquel juicio que había dado el rey: y temieron al rey, porque vieron que había en él sabiduría de Dios para juzgar.
King James Version
1And Solomon made affinity with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh’s daughter, and brought her into the city of David, until he had made an end of building his own house, and the house of the LORD, and the wall of Jerusalem round about.
2Only the people sacrificed in high places, because there was no house built unto the name of the LORD, until those days.
3And Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of David his father: only he sacrificed and burnt incense in high places.
4And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place: a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon that altar.
5In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee.
6And Solomon said, Thou hast shewed unto thy servant David my father great mercy, according as he walked before thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great kindness, that thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.
7And now, O LORD my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in.
8And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude.
9Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?
10And the speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.
11And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment;
12Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.
13And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches, and honour: so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all thy days.
14And if thou wilt walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thy father David did walk, then I will lengthen thy days.
15And Solomon awoke; and, behold, it was a dream. And he came to Jerusalem, and stood before the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and offered up burnt offerings, and offered peace offerings, and made a feast to all his servants.
16Then came there two women, that were harlots, unto the king, and stood before him.
17And the one woman said, O my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house; and I was delivered of a child with her in the house.
18And it came to pass the third day after that I was delivered, that this woman was delivered also: and we were together; there was no stranger with us in the house, save we two in the house.
19And this woman’s child died in the night; because she overlaid it.
20And she arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me, while thine handmaid slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom.
21And when I rose in the morning to give my child suck, behold, it was dead: but when I had considered it in the morning, behold, it was not my son, which I did bear.
22And the other woman said, Nay; but the living is my son, and the dead is thy son. And this said, No; but the dead is thy son, and the living is my son. Thus they spake before the king.
23Then said the king, The one saith, This is my son that liveth, and thy son is the dead: and the other saith, Nay; but thy son is the dead, and my son is the living.
24And the king said, Bring me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king.
25And the king said, Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other.
26Then spake the woman whose the living child was unto the king, for her bowels yearned upon her son, and she said, O my lord, give her the living child, and in no wise slay it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor thine, but divide it.
27Then the king answered and said, Give her the living child, and in no wise slay it: she is the mother thereof.
28And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do judgment.
World English Bible
1Solomon made a marriage alliance with Pharaoh king of Egypt. He took Pharaoh’s daughter and brought her into David’s city until he had finished building his own house, the LORD’s house, and the wall around Jerusalem.
2However, the people sacrificed in the high places, because there was not yet a house built for the LORD’s name.
3Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of David his father, except that he sacrificed and burned incense in the high places.
4The king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for that was the great high place. Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings on that altar.
5In Gibeon, the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, “Ask for what I should give you.”

7Now, LORD my God, you have made your servant king instead of David my father. I am just a little child. I don’t know how to go out or come in.

9Give your servant therefore an understanding heart to judge your people, that I may discern between good and evil; for who is able to judge this great people of yours?”

20She arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me while your servant slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom.
21When I rose in the morning to nurse my child, behold, he was dead; but when I had looked at him in the morning, behold, it was not my son whom I bore.”
22The other woman said, “No! But the living one is my son, and the dead one is your son.” The first one said, “No! But the dead one is your son, and the living one is my son.” They argued like this before the king.
23Then the king said, “One says, ‘This is my son who lives, and your son is the dead one;’ and the other says, ‘No! But your son is the dead one, and my son is the living one.’”
24The king said, “Get me a sword.” So they brought a sword before the king.
25The king said, “Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other.”
26Then the woman whose the living child was spoke to the king, for her heart yearned over her son, and she said, “Oh, my lord, give her the living child, and in no way kill him!” But the other said, “He shall be neither mine nor yours. Divide him.”
27Then the king answered, “Give the first woman the living child, and definitely do not kill him. She is his mother.”
28All Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king, for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him to do justice.
