1Tres años se pasaron sin guerra entre la Siria e Israel;
2pero al tercer año fue Josafat, rey de Judá, a visitar al rey de Israel.
3(Había dicho el rey de Israel a sus criados o cortesanos: ¿No sabéis que Ramot de Galaad es plaza nuestra, y con todo no cuidamos de recobrarla del poder del rey de Siria?)
4Y dijo a Josafat: ¿Vendrás conmigo a la guerra contra Ramot de Galaad?
5Respondió Josafat al rey de Israel: Somos los dos una misma cosa, y una misma cosa son tu pueblo y el mío, y tuya es mi caballería. Y añadió Josafat al rey de Israel: Consulta, te ruego, al Señor este día, para que sepamos su voluntad.
6Juntó, pues, el rey de Israel a sus profetas en número de cerca de cuatrocientos, y les dijo: ¿Debo emprender la guerra contra Ramot de Galaad, o estarme quieto? Empréndela, respondieron ellos; que el Señor entregará la plaza en poder del rey.
7Mas Josafat dijo: ¿No hay aquí algún profeta del Señor, a fin de consultar por medio de él?
8Le respondió el rey de Israel: Uno ha quedado, por cuyo medio podemos consultar al Señor; mas yo lo aborrezco, porque nunca me profetiza cosa buena, sino mala: ése es Miqueas, hijo de Jemla. Replicó Josafat: Oh rey, no hables de esa manera.
9Llamó, pues, el rey de Israel a un eunuco o camarero y le dijo: Anda, ve, y trae luego a Miqueas, hijo de Jemla.
10Estaban el rey de Israel y Josafat, rey de Judá, sentados cada uno en su trono, vestidos de traje real en la era o plaza contigua a la puerta de Samaria; y todos los profetas falsos profetizando delante de los dos.
11Y Sedecías, hijo de Canaana, se había hecho fabricar unos cuernos de hierro, y dijo: Esto dice el Señor: Con estos aventarás la Siria, hasta que no dejes rastro de ella.
12A este tenor los demás profetas profetizaban, diciendo: Sal a campaña contra Ramot de Galaad, ve en hora buena; que el Señor la entregará en manos del rey.
13Al mismo tiempo el mensajero que había ido a llamar a Miqueas, lo previno, diciendo: Mira que todos los profetas están acordes en anunciar prósperos sucesos al rey; sea, pues, tu lenguaje semejante al suyo, y anuncia buenas nuevas.
14Le respondió Miqueas: Vive el Señor, que no hablaré otra cosa que lo que el Señor me dijere.
15Llegó, pues, delante del rey, el cual le preguntó: Miqueas, ¿debemos ir a hacer la guerra contra Ramot de Galaad, o estarnos quietos? Le respondió Miqueas: Anda, y ve en hora buena; que el Señor la entregará en manos del rey.
16Le replicó el rey: Te conjuro una y mil veces en el nombre del Señor, que no me digas sino la verdad.
17Entonces dijo él: Yo vi a todo Israel dispersado por los montes, a semejanza de ovejas sin pastor; y dijo el Señor: Estos no tienen caudillo; vuélvase cada uno en paz a su casa.
18Al oír esto el rey de Israel dijo a Josafat: ¿Por ventura no te lo dije, que éste jamás me profetiza cosa buena, sino siempre mala?
19Pero Miqueas, ratificándose, añadió: Por tanto, oye la palabra del Señor: He visto al Señor sentado sobre su solio, y a toda la milicia celestial que estaba a su alrededor a la derecha y a la izquierda.
20Y dijo el Señor: ¿Quién engañará a Acab, rey de Israel, para que vaya y perezca en Ramot de Galaad? Sobre lo cual uno dijo una cosa, y otro otra.
21Mas salió del abismo el espíritu maligno, y se presentó al Señor, diciendo: Yo lo engañaré si me lo permites. Le preguntó el Señor: ¿De qué manera?
22Y él respondió: Saldré y seré un espíritu mentiroso en la boca de todos sus profetas. Y dijo el Señor: Lo engañarás, y lograrás tu intento; vete, y haz lo que dices.
23Mira, pues, concluyó Miqueas; mira que el Señor ha puesto o dejado entrar el espíritu de mentira en la boca de todos tus profetas que están aquí; mientras que el mismo Señor tiene decretados contra ti desastres.
24Se acercó entonces Sedecías, hijo de Canaana, y dio un bofetón a Miqueas, diciendo: ¿Con que a mí me ha desamparado el espíritu del Señor y te ha hablado a ti?
25Respondió Miqueas: Tú lo verás aquel día, cuando vayas huyendo de escondrijo en escondrijo para ocultarte y salvarte.
26Pero el rey de Israel dijo: Prended a Miqueas, y esté bajo la custodia de Amón, gobernador de la ciudad, y de Joás, hijo de Amelec;
27a quienes diréis: Esto manda el rey: Meted a ese hombre en la cárcel, y alimentadle con pan de dolor y agua de aflicción, hasta que yo vuelva victorioso.
28A lo que dijo Miqueas: Si tú vuelves victorioso, el Señor no habló por mi boca. Y añadió: Pueblos todos estad alerta, y sedme testigos.
29Salió, pues, el rey de Israel a campaña con Josafat, rey de Judá, contra Ramot de Galaad.
30Y dijo el rey de Israel a Josafat: Toma tus armas y entra en batalla, vestido de tus ropas. Mas el rey de Israel mudó de traje, y entró disfrazado en la pelea.
31Había mandado el rey de Siria a los treinta y dos comandantes de sus carros de guerra, diciendo: No pelearéis contra ninguno pequeño ni grande, sino contra solo el rey de Israel.
32Como fuesen, pues, los capitanes de los carros a Josafat, se figuraron que era el rey de Israel, y arrojándose encima, peleaban contra él. Josafat entonces dio voces al Señor;
33por donde conocieron los capitanes de los carros que no era el rey de Israel, y lo dejaron.
34Mas un soldado flechó su arco, y disparando al aire, casualmente hirió al rey de Israel entre el pulmón y el estómago. Por lo que dijo el rey a su cochero: Da la vuelta y sácame del combate, porque estoy gravemente herido.
35Se dio, pues, la batalla aquel día; y el rey de Israel, aunque herido, estaba en su carroza, vuelto de cara a los siros. Pero murió por la tarde, habiendo corrido la sangre de la herida hasta el fondo de la carroza.
36Y antes de ponerse el sol, un rey de armas tocó la trompeta por todo el ejército avisando que cada uno se volviese a su ciudad y a su país.
37Muerto, pues, el rey, fue conducido a Samaria, donde lo sepultaron.
38Y lavaron su carroza y las riendas de los caballos en el estanque de Samaria; y los perros lamieron su sangre, conforme a la palabra que había el Señor pronunciado.
39Las demás acciones de Acab, y todo cuanto hizo, y la casa de marfil que edificó, y todas las ciudades que fundó, todas estas cosas, ¿no están escritas en el Libro de los Anales de los Reyes de Israel?
40Pasó finalmente Acab a descansar con sus padres, y lo sucedió en el reino su hijo Ocozías.
41Josafat, hijo de Asa, había comenzado a reinar sobre Judá el año cuarto de Acab, rey de Israel.
42Treinta y cinco años tenía cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó veinticinco en Jerusalén . Llamábase su madre Azuba, hija de Salai.
43Josafat siguió en todo los pasos de su padre Asa, sin desviarse jamás; haciendo lo que era recto delante del Señor.
44Mas no quitó los lugares altos, pues todavía el pueblo sacrificaba y ofrecía incienso a Dios en las alturas.
45Y el rey Josafat mantuvo la paz con el rey de Israel.
46Las demás cosas de Josafat, y sus hechos y batallas, ¿no está todo esto escrito en el Libro de los Anales de los Reyes de Judá?
47Además exterminó del país las reliquias de los afeminados, que habían quedado del tiempo de su padre Asa.
48No había por entonces rey establecido en Idumea.
49El rey Josafat había formado una flota para hacerla navegar a Ofir, y traer de allí oro; pero no pudo efectuarse, porque naufragaron las naves en Asiongaber.
50Entonces Ocozías, hijo de Acab, dijo a Josafat: Vaya mi gente a navegar con la tuya; pero Josafat no quiso convenir en ello.
51Al fin pasó a descansar Josafat con sus padres, y fue sepultado con ellos en la ciudad de su padre David; y lo sucedió en el reino su hijo Joram.
52Ocozías, hijo de Acab, había comenzado a reinar sobre Israel en Samaria el año décimo séptimo de Josafat, rey de Judá; y reinó sobre Israel dos años.
53E hizo lo malo delante del Señor, y siguió el camino de su padre y de su madre, y las huellas de Jeroboam, hijo de Nabat, el cual indujo a pecar a Israel. Sirvió también a Baal, y lo adoró, e irritó al Señor Dios de Israel, haciendo todo lo malo que había hecho su padre.

2Y aconteció al tercer año, que Josaphat rey de Judá descendió al rey de Israel.
3Y el rey de Israel dijo á sus siervos: ¿No sabéis que es nuestra Ramoth de Galaad? y nosotros callamos en orden á tomarla de mano del rey de Siria.
4Y dijo á Josaphat: ¿Quieres venir conmigo á pelear contra Ramoth de Galaad? Y Josaphat respondió al rey de Israel: Como yo, así tú; y como mi pueblo, así tu pueblo; y como mis caballos, tus caballos.
5Y dijo luego Josaphat al rey de Israel: Yo te ruego que consultes hoy la palabra de Jehová.
6Entonces el rey de Israel juntó los profetas, como cuatrocientos hombres, á los cuales dijo: ¿Iré á la guerra contra Ramoth de Galaad, ó la dejaré? Y ellos dijeron: Sube; porque el Señor la entregará en mano del rey.
7Y dijo Josaphat: ¿Hay aún aquí algún profeta de Jehová, por el cual consultemos?
8Y el rey de Israel respondió á Josaphat: Aun hay un varón por el cual podríamos consultar á Jehová, Michêas, hijo de Imla: mas yo le aborrezco, porque nunca me profetiza bien, sino solamente mal. Y Josaphat dijo: No hable el rey así.
9Entonces el rey de Israel llamó á un eunuco, y díjole: trae presto á Michêas hijo de Imla.
10Y el rey de Israel y Josaphat rey de Judá estaban sentados cada uno en su silla, vestidos de sus ropas reales, en la plaza junto á la entrada de la puerta de Samaria; y todos los profetas profetizaban delante de ellos.
11Y Sedechîas hijo de Chânaana se había hecho unos cuernos de hierro, y dijo: Así ha dicho Jehová: Con éstos acornearás á los Siros hasta acabarlos.
12Y todos los profetas profetizaban de la misma manera, diciendo: Sube á Ramoth de Galaad, y serás prosperado; que Jehová la dará en mano del rey.
13Y el mensajero que había ido á llamar á Michêas, hablóle, diciendo: He aquí las palabras de los profetas á una boca anuncian al rey bien: sea ahora tu palabra conforme á la palabra de alguno de ellos, y anuncia bien.
14Y Michêas respondió: Vive Jehová, que lo que Jehová me hablare, eso diré.
15Vino pues al rey, y el rey le dijo: Michêas, ¿iremos á pelear contra Ramoth de Galaad, ó la dejaremos? Y él le respondió: Sube, que serás prosperado, y Jehová la entregará en mano del rey.
16Y el rey le dijo: ¿Hasta cuántas veces he de conjurarte que no me digas sino la verdad en el nombre de Jehová?
17Entonces él dijo: Yo ví á todo Israel esparcido por los montes, como ovejas que no tienen pastor: y Jehová dijo: Estos no tienen señor; vuélvase cada uno á su casa en paz.
18Y el rey de Israel dijo á Josaphat: ¿No te lo había yo dicho? Ninguna cosa buena profetizará él acerca de mí, sino solamente mal.
19Entonces él dijo: Oye pues palabra de Jehová: Yo vi á Jehová sentado en su trono, y todo el ejército de los cielos estaba junto á él, á su diestra y á su siniestra.
20Y Jehová dijo: ¿Quién inducirá á Achâb, para que suba y caiga en Ramoth de Galaad? Y uno decía de una manera; y otro decía de otra.
21Y salió un espíritu, y púsose delante de Jehová, y dijo: Yo le induciré. Y Jehová le dijo: ¿De qué manera?
22Y él dijo: Yo saldré, y seré espíritu de mentira en boca de todos sus profetas. Y él dijo: Inducirlo has, y aun saldrás con ello; sal pues, y hazlo así.
23Y ahora, he aquí Jehová ha puesto espíritu de mentira en la boca de todos estos tus profetas, y Jehová ha decretado el mal acerca de ti.
24Llegándose entonces Sedechîas hijo de Chânaana, hirió á Michêas en la mejilla, diciendo: ¿Por dónde se fué de mí el espíritu de Jehová para hablarte á ti?
25Y Michêas respondió: He aquí tú lo verás en aquel día, cuando te irás metiendo de cámara en cámara por esconderte.
26Entonces el rey de Israel dijo: Toma á Michêas, y vuélvelo á Amón gobernador de la ciudad, y á Joas hijo del rey;
27Y dirás: Así ha dicho el rey: Echad á éste en la cárcel, y mantenedle con pan de angustia y con agua de aflicción, hasta que yo vuelva en paz.
28Y dijo Michêas: Si llegares á volver en paz, Jehová no ha hablado por mí. En seguida dijo: Oid, pueblos todos.
29Subió pues el rey de Israel con Josaphat rey de Judá á Ramoth de Galaad.
30Y el rey de Israel dijo á Josaphat: Yo me disfrazaré, y entraré en la batalla: y tú vístete tus vestidos. Y el rey de Israel se disfrazó, y entró en la batalla.
31Mas el rey de Siria había mandado á sus treinta y dos capitanes de los carros, diciendo: No peleéis vosotros ni con grande ni con chico, sino sólo contra el rey de Israel.
32Y como los capitanes de los carros vieron á Josaphat, dijeron: Ciertamente éste es el rey de Israel; y viniéronse á él para pelear con él; mas el rey Josaphat dió voces.
33Viendo entonces los capitanes de los carros que no era el rey de Israel, apartáronse de él.
34Y un hombre disparando su arco á la ventura, hirió al rey de Israel por entre las junturas de la armadura; por lo que dijo él á su carretero: Toma la vuelta, y sácame del campo, que estoy herido.
35Mas la batalla había arreciado aquel día, y el rey estuvo en su carro delante de los Siros, y á la tarde murió: y la sangre de la herida corría por el seno del carro.
36Y á puesta del sol salió un pregón por el campo, diciendo: ¡Cada uno á su ciudad, y cada cual á su tierra!
37Y murió pues el rey, y fué traído á Samaria; y sepultaron al rey en Samaria.
38Y lavaron el carro en el estanque de Samaria; lavaron también sus armas; y los perros lamieron su sangre, conforme á la palabra de Jehová que había hablado.
39Lo demás de los hechos de Achâb, y todas las cosas que ejecutó, y la casa de marfil que hizo, y todas las ciudades que edificó, ¿no está escrito en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Israel?
40Y durmió Achâb con sus padres, y reinó en su lugar Ochôzías su hijo.
41Y Josaphat hijo de Asa comenzó á reinar sobre Judá en el cuarto año de Achâb rey de Israel.
42Y era Josaphat de treinta y cinco años cuando comenzó á reinar, y reinó veinticinco años en Jerusalem. El nombre de su madre fué Azuba hija de Silai.
43Y anduvo en todo el camino de Asa su padre, sin declinar de él, haciendo lo recto en los ojos de Jehová.
44Con todo eso los altos no fueron quitados; que el pueblo sacrificaba aún, y quemaba perfumes en los altos.
45Y Josaphat hizo paz con el rey de Israel.
46Lo demás de los hechos de Josaphat, y sus hazañas, y las guerras que hizo, ¿no está escrito en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Judá?
47Barrió también de la tierra el resto de los sodomitas que habían quedado en el tiempo de su padre Asa.
48No había entonces rey en Edom; presidente había en lugar de rey.
49Había Josaphat hecho navíos en Tharsis, los cuales habían de ir á Ophir por oro; mas no fueron, porque se rompieron en Ezion-geber.
50Entonces Ochôzías hijo de Achâb dijo á Josaphat: Vayan mis siervos con los tuyos en los navíos. Mas Josaphat no quiso.
51Y durmió Josaphat con sus padres, y fué sepultado con sus padres en la ciudad de David su padre; y en su lugar reinó Joram su hijo.
52Y Ochôzías hijo de Achâb comenzó á reinar sobre Israel en Samaria, el año diecisiete de Josaphat rey de Judá; y reinó dos años sobre Israel.
53E hizo lo malo en los ojos de Jehová, y anduvo en el camino de su padre, y en el camino de su madre, y en el camino de Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, que hizo pecar á Israel: Porque sirvió á Baal, y lo adoró, y provocó á ira á Jehová Dios de Israel, conforme á todas las cosas que su padre había hecho.

1And they continued three years without war between Syria and Israel.
2And it came to pass in the third year, that Jehoshaphat the king of Judah came down to the king of Israel.
3And the king of Israel said unto his servants, Know ye that Ramoth in Gilead is ours, and we be still, and take it not out of the hand of the king of Syria?
4And he said unto Jehoshaphat, Wilt thou go with me to battle to Ramoth-gilead? And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, I am as thou art, my people as thy people, my horses as thy horses.
5And Jehoshaphat said unto the king of Israel, Enquire, I pray thee, at the word of the LORD to day.
6Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said unto them, Shall I go against Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, Go up; for the Lord shall deliver it into the hand of the king.
7And Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the LORD besides, that we might enquire of him?
8And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we may enquire of the LORD: but I hate him; for he doth not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.
9Then the king of Israel called an officer, and said, Hasten hither Micaiah the son of Imlah.
10And the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah sat each on his throne, having put on their robes, in a void place in the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets prophesied before them.
11And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made him horns of iron: and he said, Thus saith the LORD, With these shalt thou push the Syrians, until thou have consumed them.
12And all the prophets prophesied so, saying, Go up to Ramoth-gilead, and prosper: for the LORD shall deliver it into the king’s hand.
13And the messenger that was gone to call Micaiah spake unto him, saying, Behold now, the words of the prophets declare good unto the king with one mouth: let thy word, I pray thee, be like the word of one of them, and speak that which is good.
14And Micaiah said, As the LORD liveth, what the LORD saith unto me, that will I speak.
15So he came to the king. And the king said unto him, Micaiah, shall we go against Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall we forbear? And he answered him, Go, and prosper: for the LORD shall deliver it into the hand of the king.
16And the king said unto him, How many times shall I adjure thee that thou tell me nothing but that which is true in the name of the LORD?
17And he said, I saw all Israel scattered upon the hills, as sheep that have not a shepherd: and the LORD said, These have no master: let them return every man to his house in peace.
18And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, Did I not tell thee that he would prophesy no good concerning me, but evil?
19And he said, Hear thou therefore the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left.
20And the LORD said, Who shall persuade Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead? And one said on this manner, and another said on that manner.
21And there came forth a spirit, and stood before the LORD, and said, I will persuade him.
22And the LORD said unto him, Wherewith? And he said, I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt persuade him, and prevail also: go forth, and do so.
23Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil concerning thee.
24But Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah went near, and smote Micaiah on the cheek, and said, Which way went the Spirit of the LORD from me to speak unto thee?
25And Micaiah said, Behold, thou shalt see in that day, when thou shalt go into an inner chamber to hide thyself.
26And the king of Israel said, Take Micaiah, and carry him back unto Amon the governor of the city, and to Joash the king’s son;
27And say, Thus saith the king, Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I come in peace.
28And Micaiah said, If thou return at all in peace, the LORD hath not spoken by me. And he said, Hearken, O people, every one of you.
29So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramoth-gilead.
30And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, I will disguise myself, and enter into the battle; but put thou on thy robes. And the king of Israel disguised himself, and went into the battle.
31But the king of Syria commanded his thirty and two captains that had rule over his chariots, saying, Fight neither with small nor great, save only with the king of Israel.
32And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, Surely it is the king of Israel. And they turned aside to fight against him: and Jehoshaphat cried out.
33And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots perceived that it was not the king of Israel, that they turned back from pursuing him.
34And a certain man drew a bow at a venture, and smote the king of Israel between the joints of the harness: wherefore he said unto the driver of his chariot, Turn thine hand, and carry me out of the host; for I am wounded.
35And the battle increased that day: and the king was stayed up in his chariot against the Syrians, and died at even: and the blood ran out of the wound into the midst of the chariot.
36And there went a proclamation throughout the host about the going down of the sun, saying, Every man to his city, and every man to his own country.
37So the king died, and was brought to Samaria; and they buried the king in Samaria.
38And one washed the chariot in the pool of Samaria; and the dogs licked up his blood; and they washed his armour; according unto the word of the LORD which he spake.
39Now the rest of the acts of Ahab, and all that he did, and the ivory house which he made, and all the cities that he built, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
40So Ahab slept with his fathers; and Ahaziah his son reigned in his stead.
41And Jehoshaphat the son of Asa began to reign over Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel.
42Jehoshaphat was thirty and five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.
43And he walked in all the ways of Asa his father; he turned not aside from it, doing that which was right in the eyes of the LORD: nevertheless the high places were not taken away; for the people offered and burnt incense yet in the high places.
44And Jehoshaphat made peace with the king of Israel.
45Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, and his might that he shewed, and how he warred, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
46And the remnant of the sodomites, which remained in the days of his father Asa, he took out of the land.
47There was then no king in Edom: a deputy was king.
48Jehoshaphat made ships of Tharshish to go to Ophir for gold: but they went not; for the ships were broken at Ezion-geber.
49Then said Ahaziah the son of Ahab unto Jehoshaphat, Let my servants go with thy servants in the ships. But Jehoshaphat would not.
50And Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father: and Jehoram his son reigned in his stead.
51Ahaziah the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned two years over Israel.
52And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the way of his father, and in the way of his mother, and in the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin:
53For he served Baal, and worshipped him, and provoked to anger the LORD God of Israel, according to all that his father had done.

1They continued three years without war between Syria and Israel.
2In the third year, Jehoshaphat the king of Judah came down to the king of Israel.
3The king of Israel said to his servants, “You know that Ramoth Gilead is ours, and we do nothing, and don’t take it out of the hand of the king of Syria?”
4He said to Jehoshaphat, “Will you go with me to battle to Ramoth Gilead?” Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.”
5Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “Please inquire first for the LORD’s word.”
6Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said to them, “Should I go against Ramoth Gilead to battle, or should I refrain?” They said, “Go up; for the Lord will deliver it into the hand of the king.”
7But Jehoshaphat said, “Isn’t there here a prophet of the LORD, that we may inquire of him?”
8The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of the LORD, Micaiah the son of Imlah; but I hate him, for he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil.” Jehoshaphat said, “Don’t let the king say so.”
9Then the king of Israel called an officer, and said, “Quickly get Micaiah the son of Imlah.”
10Now the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah were sitting each on his throne, arrayed in their robes, in an open place at the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets were prophesying before them.
11Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made himself horns of iron, and said, “The LORD says, ‘With these you will push the Syrians, until they are consumed.’”
12All the prophets prophesied so, saying, “Go up to Ramoth Gilead and prosper; for the LORD will deliver it into the hand of the king.”
13The messenger who went to call Micaiah spoke to him, saying, “See now, the prophets declare good to the king with one mouth. Please let your word be like the word of one of them, and speak good.”
14Micaiah said, “As the LORD lives, what the LORD says to me, that I will speak.”
15When he had come to the king, the king said to him, “Micaiah, shall we go to Ramoth Gilead to battle, or shall we forbear?” He answered him, “Go up and prosper; and the LORD will deliver it into the hand of the king.”
16The king said to him, “How many times do I have to adjure you that you speak to me nothing but the truth in the LORD’s name?”
17He said, “I saw all Israel scattered on the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd. The LORD said, ‘These have no master. Let them each return to his house in peace.’”
18The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “Didn’t I tell you that he would not prophesy good concerning me, but evil?”
19Micaiah said, “Therefore hear the LORD’s word. I saw the LORD sitting on his throne, and all the army of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left.
20The LORD said, ‘Who will entice Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth Gilead?’ One said one thing, and another said another.
21A spirit came out and stood before the LORD, and said, ‘I will entice him.’
22The LORD said to him, ‘How?’ He said, ‘I will go out and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’ He said, ‘You will entice him, and will also prevail. Go out and do so.’
23Now therefore, behold, the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets; and the LORD has spoken evil concerning you.”
24Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near and struck Micaiah on the cheek, and said, “Which way did the LORD’s Spirit go from me to speak to you?”
25Micaiah said, “Behold, you will see on that day when you go into an inner room to hide yourself.”
26The king of Israel said, “Take Micaiah, and carry him back to Amon the governor of the city and to Joash the king’s son.
27Say, ‘The king says, “Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I come in peace.”’”
28Micaiah said, “If you return at all in peace, the LORD has not spoken by me.” He said, “Listen, all you people!”
29So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramoth Gilead.
30The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “I will disguise myself and go into the battle, but you put on your robes.” The king of Israel disguised himself and went into the battle.
31Now the king of Syria had commanded the thirty-two captains of his chariots, saying, “Don’t fight with small nor great, except only with the king of Israel.”
32When the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, they said, “Surely that is the king of Israel!” and they came over to fight against him. Jehoshaphat cried out.
33When the captains of the chariots saw that it was not the king of Israel, they turned back from pursuing him.
34A certain man drew his bow at random, and struck the king of Israel between the joints of the armor. Therefore he said to the driver of his chariot, “Turn around, and carry me out of the battle, for I am severely wounded.”
35The battle increased that day. The king was propped up in his chariot facing the Syrians, and died at evening. The blood ran out of the wound into the bottom of the chariot.
36A cry went throughout the army about the going down of the sun, saying, “Every man to his city, and every man to his country!”
37So the king died, and was brought to Samaria; and they buried the king in Samaria.
38They washed the chariot by the pool of Samaria; and the dogs licked up his blood where the prostitutes washed themselves, according to the LORD’s word which he spoke.
39Now the rest of the acts of Ahab, and all that he did, and the ivory house which he built, and all the cities that he built, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
40So Ahab slept with his fathers; and Ahaziah his son reigned in his place.
41Jehoshaphat the son of Asa began to reign over Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel.
42Jehoshaphat was thirty-five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty-five years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.
43He walked in all the way of Asa his father. He didn’t turn away from it, doing that which was right in the LORD’s eyes. However, the high places were not taken away. The people still sacrificed and burned incense on the high places.
44Jehoshaphat made peace with the king of Israel.
45Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, and his might that he showed, and how he fought, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
46The remnant of the sodomites, that remained in the days of his father Asa, he put away out of the land.
47There was no king in Edom. A deputy ruled.
48Jehoshaphat made ships of Tarshish to go to Ophir for gold, but they didn’t go, for the ships wrecked at Ezion Geber.
49Then Ahaziah the son of Ahab said to Jehoshaphat, “Let my servants go with your servants in the ships.” But Jehoshaphat would not.
50Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in his father David’s city. Jehoram his son reigned in his place.
51Ahaziah the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and he reigned two years over Israel.
52He did that which was evil in the LORD’s sight, and walked in the way of his father, and in the way of his mother, and in the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, in which he made Israel to sin.
53He served Baal and worshiped him, and provoked the LORD, the God of Israel, to anger in all the ways that his father had done so.
