1Und Ahab sagte der Isebel alles, was Elia getan und wie er alle Propheten Baals mit dem Schwerte umgebracht hatte.
2Da sandte Isebel einen Boten zu Elia und ließ ihm sagen: Die Götter sollen mir dies und das tun, wenn ich morgen um diese Zeit mit deinem Leben nicht also verfahre wie du mit jener Leben!
3Als er solches vernahm, machte er sich auf und ging fort um seines Lebens willen und kam nach Beerseba in Juda und ließ seinen Knaben daselbst.
4Er aber ging hin in die Wüste, eine Tagereise weit, kam und setzte sich unter einen Ginsterstrauch und erbat sich den Tod und sprach: Es ist genug! So nimm nun, HERR, meine Seele; denn ich bin nicht besser als meine Väter!
5Und er legte sich und schlief ein unter dem Ginsterstrauch. Und siehe, ein Engel rührte ihn an und sprach zu ihm: Stehe auf und iß!
6Und als er sich umsah, siehe, da war zu seinen Häupten ein auf heißen Steinen gebackener Brotkuchen und ein Krug Wasser. Und als er gegessen und getrunken hatte, legte er sich wieder schlafen.
7Und der Engel des HERRN kam zum zweitenmal und rührte ihn an und sprach: Stehe auf und iß; denn du hast einen weiten Weg vor dir!
8Und er stand auf, aß und trank und ging kraft dieser Speise vierzig Tage und vierzig Nächte lang, bis an den Berg Gottes Horeb.
9Und er ging daselbst in eine Höhle hinein und blieb dort über Nacht. Und siehe, das Wort des HERRN kam zu ihm und sprach: Was willst du hier, Elia?
10Er sprach: Ich habe heftig für den HERRN, den Gott der Heerscharen, geeifert; denn die Kinder Israel haben deinen Bund verlassen und deine Altäre zerbrochen und deine Propheten mit dem Schwert umgebracht, und ich bin allein übriggeblieben, und sie trachten darnach, mir das Leben zu nehmen!
11Er aber sprach: Komm heraus und tritt auf den Berg vor den HERRN! Und siehe, der HERR ging vorüber; und ein großer, starker Wind, der die Berge zerriß und die Felsen zerbrach, ging vor dem HERRN her; der HERR aber war nicht im Winde. Nach dem Winde aber kam ein Erdbeben; aber der Herr war nicht im Erdbeben.
12Und nach dem Erdbeben kam ein Feuer; aber der HERR war nicht im Feuer. Und nach dem Feuer kam die Stimme eines sanften Säuselns.
13Als Elia dieses hörte, verhüllte er sein Angesicht mit seinem Mantel und ging hinaus und trat an den Eingang der Höhle. Und siehe, da kam eine Stimme zu ihm, die sprach: Was willst du hier, Elia?
14Er sprach: Ich habe heftig für den HERRN, den Gott der Heerscharen, geeifert; denn die Kinder Israel haben deinen Bund verlassen, deine Altäre zerbrochen und deine Propheten mit dem Schwerte umgebracht, und ich bin allein übriggeblieben, und sie trachten darnach, mir das Leben zu nehmen!
15Aber der HERR sprach zu ihm: Kehre wieder auf deinen Weg zurück nach der Wüste und wandere gen Damaskus und gehe hinein und salbe Hasael zum König über Syrien.
16Auch sollst du Jehu, den Sohn Nimsis, zum König über Israel salben und sollst Elisa, den Sohn Saphats, von Abel-Mechola, zum Propheten salben an deiner Statt.
17Und es soll geschehen, wer dem Schwerte Hasaels entrinnt, den soll Jehu töten; und wer dem Schwerte Jehus entrinnt, den soll Elisa töten.
18Ich aber will in Israel siebentausend übriglassen, nämlich alle, die ihre Knie nicht gebeugt haben vor Baal und deren Mund ihn nicht geküßt hat.
19Und er ging von dannen und fand Elisa, den Sohn Saphats; der pflügte mit zwölf Joch Rindern vor sich her, und er selbst war beim zwölften. Und Elia ging zu ihm und warf seinen Mantel über ihn.
20Er aber verließ die Rinder und lief Elia nach und sprach: Laß mich noch meinen Vater und meine Mutter küssen, dann will ich dir nachfolgen! Er aber sprach zu ihm: Gehe hin und komm wieder!
21Denn was habe ich dir getan? Da wandte er sich von ihm und nahm ein Joch Rinder und opferte sie und kochte das Fleisch mit dem Geschirr der Rinder und gab es dem Volk, daß sie aßen; dann machte er sich auf und folgte Elia nach und diente ihm.

1Y ACHAB dió la nueva á Jezabel de todo lo que Elías había hecho, de como había muerto á cuchillo á todos los profetas.
2Entonces envió Jezabel á Elías un mensajero, diciendo: Así me hagan los dioses, y así me añadan, si mañana á estas horas yo no haya puesto tu persona como la de uno de ellos.
3Viendo pues el peligro, levantóse y fuése por salvar su vida, y vino á Beer-seba, que es en Judá, y dejó allí su criado.
4Y él se fué por el desierto un día de camino, y vino y sentóse debajo de un enebro; y deseando morirse, dijo: Baste ya, oh Jehová, quita mi alma; que no soy yo mejor que mis padres.
5Y echándose debajo del enebro, quedóse dormido: y he aquí luego un ángel que le tocó, y le dijo: Levántate, come.
6Entonces él miró, y he aquí á su cabecera una torta cocida sobre las ascuas, y un vaso de agua: y comió y bebió, y volvióse á dormir.
7Y volviendo el ángel de Jehová la segunda vez, tocóle, diciendo: Levántate, come: porque gran camino te resta.
8Levantóse pues, y comió y bebió; y caminó con la fortaleza de aquella comida cuarenta días y cuarenta noches, hasta el monte de Dios, Horeb.
9Y allí se metió en una cueva, donde tuvo la noche. Y fué á él palabra de Jehová, el cual le dijo: ¿Qué haces aquí, Elías?
10Y él respondió: Sentido he un vivo celo por Jehová Dios de los ejércitos; porque los hijos de Israel han dejado tu alianza, han derribado tus altares, y han muerto á cuchillo tus profetas: y yo solo he quedado, y me buscan para quitarme la vida.
11Y él le dijo: Sal fuera, y ponte en el monte delante de Jehová. Y he aquí Jehová que pasaba, y un grande y poderoso viento que rompía los montes, y quebraba las peñas delante de Jehová: mas Jehová no estaba en el viento. Y tras el viento un terremoto: mas Jehová no estaba en el terremoto.
12Y tras el terremoto un fuego: mas Jehová no estaba en el fuego. Y tras el fuego un silbo apacible y delicado.
13Y cuando lo oyó Elías, cubrió su rostro con su manto, y salió, y paróse á la puerta de la cueva. Y he aquí llegó una voz á él, diciendo: ¿Qué haces aquí, Elías?
14Y él respondió: Sentido he un vivo celo por Jehová Dios de los ejércitos; porque los hijos de Israel han dejado tu alianza, han derribado tus altares, y han muerto á cuchillo tus profetas: y yo solo he quedado, y me buscan para quitarme la vida.
15Y díjole Jehová: Ve, vuélvete por tu camino, por el desierto de Damasco: y llegarás, y ungirás á Hazael por rey de Siria;
16Y á Jehú hijo de Nimsi, ungirás por rey sobre Israel; y á Eliseo hijo de Saphat, de Abelmehula, ungirás para que sea profeta en lugar de ti.
17Y será, que el que escapare del cuchillo de Hazael, Jehú lo matará; y el que escapare del cuchillo de Jehú, Eliseo lo matará.
18Y yo haré que queden en Israel siete mil; todas rodillas que no se encorvaron á Baal, y bocas todas que no lo besaron.
19Y partiéndose él de allí, halló á Eliseo hijo de Saphat, que araba con doce yuntas delante de sí; y él era uno de los doce gañanes. Y pasando Elías por delante de él, echó sobre él su manto.
20Entonces dejando él los bueyes, vino corriendo en pos de Elías, y dijo: Ruégote que me dejes besar mi padre y mi madre, y luego te seguiré. Y él le dijo: Ve, vuelve: ¿qué te he hecho yo?
21Y volvióse de en pos de él, y tomó un par de bueyes, y matólos, y con el arado de los bueyes coció la carne de ellos, y dióla al pueblo que comiesen. Después se levantó, y fué tras Elías, y servíale.

1And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.
2Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time.
3And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beer-sheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there.
4But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.
5And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat.
6And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again.
7And the angel of the LORD came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.
8And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.
9And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?
10And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
11And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake:
12And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.
13And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?
14And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: because the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
15And the LORD said unto him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus: and when thou comest, anoint Hazael to be king over Syria:
16And Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel: and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy room.
17And it shall come to pass, that him that escapeth the sword of Hazael shall Jehu slay: and him that escapeth from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha slay.
18Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.
19So he departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth: and Elijah passed by him, and cast his mantle upon him.
20And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow thee. And he said unto him, Go back again: for what have I done to thee?
21And he returned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen, and slew them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave unto the people, and they did eat. Then he arose, and went after Elijah, and ministered unto him.

1Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and how he had killed all the prophets with the sword.
2Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, “So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I don’t make your life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time!”
3When he saw that, he arose and ran for his life, and came to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there.
4But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree. Then he requested for himself that he might die, and said, “It is enough. Now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.”
5He lay down and slept under a juniper tree; and behold, an angel touched him, and said to him, “Arise and eat!”
6He looked, and behold, there was at his head a cake baked on the coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank, and lay down again.
7The LORD’s angel came again the second time, and touched him, and said, “Arise and eat, because the journey is too great for you.”
8He arose, and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Horeb, God’s Mountain.
9He came to a cave there, and camped there; and behold, the LORD’s word came to him, and he said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
10He said, “I have been very jealous for the LORD, the God of Armies; for the children of Israel have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword. I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.”
11He said, “Go out and stand on the mountain before the LORD.” Behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake.
12After the earthquake a fire passed; but the LORD was not in the fire. After the fire, there was a still small voice.
13When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his mantle, went out, and stood in the entrance of the cave. Behold, a voice came to him, and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
14He said, “I have been very jealous for the LORD, the God of Armies; for the children of Israel have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword. I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.”
15The LORD said to him, “Go, return on your way to the wilderness of Damascus. When you arrive, anoint Hazael to be king over Syria.
16Anoint Jehu the son of Nimshi to be king over Israel; and anoint Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel Meholah to be prophet in your place.
17He who escapes from the sword of Hazael, Jehu will kill; and he who escapes from the sword of Jehu, Elisha will kill.
18Yet I reserved seven thousand in Israel, all the knees of which have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth that has not kissed him.”
19So he departed from there and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth. Elijah went over to him and put his mantle on him.
20Elisha left the oxen and ran after Elijah, and said, “Let me please kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow you.” He said to him, “Go back again; for what have I done to you?”
21He returned from following him, and took the yoke of oxen, killed them, and boiled their meat with the oxen’s equipment, and gave to the people; and they ate. Then he arose, and went after Elijah, and served him.
