1Et Achab apprit à Jézabel sa femme tout ce qu'avait fait Elle, et comment il avait tué les prophètes par l'épée.
2Et Jézabel envoya chez Elie, et elle dit : Si tu es Elie, moi je suis Jézabel : que Dieu me punisse et me punisse encore, si demain, à pareille heure, je n'ai pas fait de ta vie ce que tu as fait de la vie de chacun d'eux.
3Et Elie eut crainte ; il se leva ; il s'éloigna pour sauver sa vie, et se rendit à Bersabée en Juda, où il laissa son serviteur.
4Lui-même s'enfonça dans le désert à une journée de marche ; il s'assit sous un genévrier, et il demanda la mort, disant : C'est assez, prenez maintenant mon âme, ô Seigneur, car je ne suis pas meilleur que mes pères.
5Et il se coucha et il s'endormit sous le genévrier ; or voilà qu'un ange le toucha, et lui dit : Lève-toi et mange.
6Il regarda, et il vit auprès de sa tête des gâteaux d'épeautre et une fiole d'eau ; il se leva, il mangea, il but et il s'endormit.
7L'ange du Seigneur revint une seconde fois, le toucha, et lui dit : Lève- toi et mange, car tu as à faire un long chemin.
8Et il se leva ; il mangea et il but, et il partit fortifié par ces aliments, et il marcha quarante jours et quarante nuits jusqu'au mont Horeb.
9Là, il entra dans la caverne ; il en fit sa demeure, et la parole du Seigneur vint à lui, disant : Que fais-tu là, Elie ?
10Le prophète répondit : J'ai eu le cœur rempli de zèle pour le Seigneur Tout-Puissant, parce que les fils d'Israël vous ont abandonné, qu'ils ont renversé vos autels, et tué par l'épée vos prophètes ; seul j'ai survécu, et ils en veulent à ma vie.
11Or, la voix reprit : Tu partiras demain ; mais tiens-toi devant le Seigneur sur la montagne, regarde : le Seigneur va passer. Aussitôt, voilà qu'un vent violent passa, déchirant la montagne, brisant les rochers, et le Seigneur n'était pas dans le vent ; après le vent, il y eut un tremblement de terre, et le Seigneur n'était pas dans le tremblement de terre ;
12Après le tremblement de terre, vint une flamme, et le Seigneur n'était pas dans la flamme ; après la flamme, vint le murmure d'un souffle léger.
13Quand Elie entendit ce souffle, il se voila le visage de son manteau de peau de brebis ; puis, il sortit et il se tint à l'entrée de la caverne ; alors, une voix s'approcha de lui, disant : Que fais-tu là, Elie ?
14Et le prophète répondit : J'ai eu le cœur plein de zèle pour le Seigneur Tout-Puissant, parce que les fils d'Israël ont abandonné votre alliance, renversé vos autels, et tué par l'épée vos prophètes ; seul j'ai survécu, et ils en veulent à ma vie.
15Et le Seigneur lui dit : Pars, remets-toi en marche, prends le chemin du désert de Damas, tu iras, et tu sacreras Azaël pour être roi de Syrie.
16Et tu sacreras Jéhu, fils de Namsi, pour être roi d'Israël ; et tu sacreras Elisée, fils de Saphat, pour être prophète après toi.
17Celui qu'épargnera l'épée d'Azaël, Jéhu le mettra à mort ; celui qu'épargnera l'épée de Jéhu, Elisée le mettra à mort.
18Et je me réserve, en Israël, sept mille hommes, les seuls qui n'aient point fléchi le genou devant Baal, les seuls dont la bouche ne l'ait point adoré.
19Et Elie partit de ce lieu, et il trouva Elisée, fils de Saphat ; celui-ci labourait avec des bœufs ; il avait devant lui douze attelages, et seul il les conduisait. Le prophète alla droit à Elisée, et jeta sur lui son manteau de peau de brebis.
20Et Elisée abandonna ses bœufs ; il suivit à grands pas Elie, et il lui dit : Je vais embrasser mon père ; puis, je t'accompagnerai. Elie reprit : Reviens, car j'ai travaillé pour toi.
21Et il s'éloigna d'Elie, il prit ses couples de bœufs, il les sacrifia, il les fit cuire avec l'attirail des attelages, il les donna au peuple, et il mangea ; enfin il rejoignit Elie et il le servit.

1Y ACHAB dió la nueva á Jezabel de todo lo que Elías había hecho, de como había muerto á cuchillo á todos los profetas.
2Entonces envió Jezabel á Elías un mensajero, diciendo: Así me hagan los dioses, y así me añadan, si mañana á estas horas yo no haya puesto tu persona como la de uno de ellos.
3Viendo pues el peligro, levantóse y fuése por salvar su vida, y vino á Beer-seba, que es en Judá, y dejó allí su criado.
4Y él se fué por el desierto un día de camino, y vino y sentóse debajo de un enebro; y deseando morirse, dijo: Baste ya, oh Jehová, quita mi alma; que no soy yo mejor que mis padres.
5Y echándose debajo del enebro, quedóse dormido: y he aquí luego un ángel que le tocó, y le dijo: Levántate, come.
6Entonces él miró, y he aquí á su cabecera una torta cocida sobre las ascuas, y un vaso de agua: y comió y bebió, y volvióse á dormir.
7Y volviendo el ángel de Jehová la segunda vez, tocóle, diciendo: Levántate, come: porque gran camino te resta.
8Levantóse pues, y comió y bebió; y caminó con la fortaleza de aquella comida cuarenta días y cuarenta noches, hasta el monte de Dios, Horeb.
9Y allí se metió en una cueva, donde tuvo la noche. Y fué á él palabra de Jehová, el cual le dijo: ¿Qué haces aquí, Elías?
10Y él respondió: Sentido he un vivo celo por Jehová Dios de los ejércitos; porque los hijos de Israel han dejado tu alianza, han derribado tus altares, y han muerto á cuchillo tus profetas: y yo solo he quedado, y me buscan para quitarme la vida.
11Y él le dijo: Sal fuera, y ponte en el monte delante de Jehová. Y he aquí Jehová que pasaba, y un grande y poderoso viento que rompía los montes, y quebraba las peñas delante de Jehová: mas Jehová no estaba en el viento. Y tras el viento un terremoto: mas Jehová no estaba en el terremoto.
12Y tras el terremoto un fuego: mas Jehová no estaba en el fuego. Y tras el fuego un silbo apacible y delicado.
13Y cuando lo oyó Elías, cubrió su rostro con su manto, y salió, y paróse á la puerta de la cueva. Y he aquí llegó una voz á él, diciendo: ¿Qué haces aquí, Elías?
14Y él respondió: Sentido he un vivo celo por Jehová Dios de los ejércitos; porque los hijos de Israel han dejado tu alianza, han derribado tus altares, y han muerto á cuchillo tus profetas: y yo solo he quedado, y me buscan para quitarme la vida.
15Y díjole Jehová: Ve, vuélvete por tu camino, por el desierto de Damasco: y llegarás, y ungirás á Hazael por rey de Siria;
16Y á Jehú hijo de Nimsi, ungirás por rey sobre Israel; y á Eliseo hijo de Saphat, de Abelmehula, ungirás para que sea profeta en lugar de ti.
17Y será, que el que escapare del cuchillo de Hazael, Jehú lo matará; y el que escapare del cuchillo de Jehú, Eliseo lo matará.
18Y yo haré que queden en Israel siete mil; todas rodillas que no se encorvaron á Baal, y bocas todas que no lo besaron.
19Y partiéndose él de allí, halló á Eliseo hijo de Saphat, que araba con doce yuntas delante de sí; y él era uno de los doce gañanes. Y pasando Elías por delante de él, echó sobre él su manto.
20Entonces dejando él los bueyes, vino corriendo en pos de Elías, y dijo: Ruégote que me dejes besar mi padre y mi madre, y luego te seguiré. Y él le dijo: Ve, vuelve: ¿qué te he hecho yo?
21Y volvióse de en pos de él, y tomó un par de bueyes, y matólos, y con el arado de los bueyes coció la carne de ellos, y dióla al pueblo que comiesen. Después se levantó, y fué tras Elías, y servíale.

1And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.
2Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time.
3And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beer-sheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there.
4But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.
5And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat.
6And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again.
7And the angel of the LORD came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.
8And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.
9And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?
10And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
11And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake:
12And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.
13And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?
14And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: because the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
15And the LORD said unto him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus: and when thou comest, anoint Hazael to be king over Syria:
16And Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel: and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy room.
17And it shall come to pass, that him that escapeth the sword of Hazael shall Jehu slay: and him that escapeth from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha slay.
18Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.
19So he departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth: and Elijah passed by him, and cast his mantle upon him.
20And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow thee. And he said unto him, Go back again: for what have I done to thee?
21And he returned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen, and slew them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave unto the people, and they did eat. Then he arose, and went after Elijah, and ministered unto him.

1Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and how he had killed all the prophets with the sword.
2Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, “So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I don’t make your life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time!”
3When he saw that, he arose and ran for his life, and came to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there.
4But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree. Then he requested for himself that he might die, and said, “It is enough. Now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.”

19So he departed from there and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth. Elijah went over to him and put his mantle on him.
20Elisha left the oxen and ran after Elijah, and said, “Let me please kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow you.” He said to him, “Go back again; for what have I done to you?”
21He returned from following him, and took the yoke of oxen, killed them, and boiled their meat with the oxen’s equipment, and gave to the people; and they ate. Then he arose, and went after Elijah, and served him.
