1Und siehe, ein Mann Gottes kam aus Judah durch das Wort Jehovahs nach Bethel, und Jerobeam stand am Altare, zu räuchern.
2Und er rief wider den Altar durch das Wort Jehovahs und sprach: Altar! Altar! so spricht Jehovah: Siehe, ein Sohn wird geboren dem Hause Davids, Joschijahu ist sein Name, und der opfert auf dir die Priester der Opferhöhen, die auf dir räuchern, und Gebeine von Menschen werden sie auf dir verbrennen.
3Und er gab an selbigem Tage ein Wahrzeichen und sprach: Dies ist das Wahrzeichen, das Jehovah geredet hat: Siehe, der Altar wird zerrissen und die Fettasche darauf verschüttet werden.
4Und es geschah, wie der König das Wort des Mannes Gottes hörte, das er wider den Altar in Bethel ausrief; da reckte Jerobeam vom Altare seine Hand aus und sprach: Fasset ihn! Und es verdorrte seine Hand, die er wider ihn ausgereckt, und er vermochte nicht, sie an sich zurückzuziehen.
5Und der Altar zerriß und die Fettasche ward verschüttet vom Altar, nach dem Wahrzeichen, das der Mann Gottes gab durch das Wort Jehovahs.
6Und der König antwortete und sprach zu dem Manne Gottes: Flehe doch an das Angesicht Jehovahs, deines Gottes, und bete für mich, daß meine Hand zu mir zurückkomme; und der Mann Gottes flehte an das Angesicht Jehovahs, und die Hand des Königs kam zurück zu ihm und ward wie früher.
7Und der König redete zu dem Manne Gottes: Komm mit mir ins Haus und labe dich, und ich will dir eine Gabe geben.
8Und der Mann Gottes sprach zu dem Könige: Wenn du mir die Hälfte deines Hauses gibst, so komme ich nicht mit dir und esse kein Brot und trinke kein Wasser an diesem Orte.
9Denn so ward mir geboten durch das Wort Jehovahs und gesagt: Du sollst nicht essen Brot und nicht Wasser trinken und nicht zurückkehren auf dem Wege, den du gegangen bist.
10Und er ging einen anderen Weg und kehrte nicht zurück auf dem Wege, auf dem er nach Bethel gekommen war.
11Und es wohnte ein alter Prophet in Bethel. Zu dem kam sein Sohn und erzählte ihm all das Tun, das der Mann Gottes heute in Bethel getan; die Worte, die er zum König geredet, die erzählten sie ihrem Vater.
12Und ihr Vater redete zu ihnen: Welchen Weg ist er gegangen? Seine Söhne aber hatten den Weg gesehen, den der Mann Gottes, der aus Judah gekommen war, ging.
13Und er sprach zu seinen Söhnen: Sattelt mir den Esel! Und sie sattelten ihm den Esel, und er ritt darauf.
14Und er ging dem Manne Gottes nach und fand ihn sitzend unter der Eiche und sprach zu ihm: Bist du der Mann Gottes, der aus Judah gekommen ist? Und er sprach: Ich bin es.
15Und er sprach zu ihm: Komm mit mir nach Haus und iß Brot.
16Und er sprach: Ich vermag nicht mit dir zurückzukehren und mit dir zu kommen und esse kein Brot und trinke kein Wasser mit dir an diesem Ort.
17Denn das Wort war an mich durch das Wort Jehovahs: Du sollst kein Brot essen und kein Wasser allda trinken, du sollst nicht zurückkehren, auf dem Wege zu gehen, auf dem du gegangen bist.
18Und er sprach zu ihm: Auch ich bin ein Prophet wie du, und ein Engel hat zu mir geredet durch Jehovahs Wort und gesprochen: Bringe ihn mit dir zurück nach deinem Haus, daß er Brot esse und Wasser trinke. Aber er täuschte ihn.
19Und er kehrte zurück mit ihm und aß Brot in seinem Haus und trank Wasser.
20Und es geschah, da sie am Tische saßen, da erging das Wort Jehovahs zu dem Propheten, der ihn zurückgebracht hatte.
21Und er rief dem Manne Gottes, der aus Judah gekommen war, zu und sprach: So spricht Jehovah: Weil du dem Munde Jehovahs widerspenstig geworden bist und nicht gehalten hast das Gebot, das dir Jehovah, dein Gott, geboten hatte;
22Und du zurückkehrtest und Brot aßest und Wasser trankest an dem Orte, von dem Ich zu dir geredet: Du sollst kein Brot essen und kein Wasser trinken, darum soll dein Leichnam nicht zum Grabe deiner Väter kommen.
23Und es geschah, nachdem er Brot gegessen und nachdem er getrunken hatte, da sattelte man dem Propheten, den er zurückgeführt hatte, den Esel.
24Und er ging hin, und ein Löwe fand ihn auf dem Wege und tötete ihn, und sein Leichnam ward hingeworfen auf dem Wege, und der Esel stand neben ihm, und der Löwe stand neben dem Leichnam.
25Und siehe, Männer gingen vorüber und sahen den Leichnam hingeworfen am Wege und den Löwen neben dem Leichnam stehen, und sie kamen und redeten davon in der Stadt, in welcher der alte Prophet wohnte.
26Und der Prophet, der ihn zurückgeführt vom Wege, hörte es, und er sprach: Dies ist der Mann Gottes, der dem Munde Gottes widerspenstig wurde, und Jehovah gab ihn dem Löwen hin, und der zerbrach ihn und tötete ihn, nach dem Worte Jehovahs, das Er zu ihm redete.
27Und er redete zu seinen Söhnen und sprach: Sattelt mir den Esel, und sie sattelten ihn.
28Und er ging hin und fand seinen Leichnam hingeworfen am Wege, und der Esel und der Löwe standen neben dem Leichnam. Der Löwe hatte den Leichnam nicht gefressen und den Esel nicht zerrissen.
29Und der Prophet hob den Leichnam des Mannes Gottes auf und legte ihn hin auf den Esel und brachte ihn zurück, und er kam zur Stadt des alten Propheten, um ihn zu klagen und ihn zu begraben.
30Und er legte seinen Leichnam hin in sein Grab, und sie klagten über ihn: Wehe, mein Bruder!
31Und es geschah, nachdem er ihn begraben hatte, da sprach er zu seinen Söhnen und sagte: Wenn ich sterbe, so begrabet mich in dem Grabe, darin der Mann Gottes begraben ist, und legt meine Gebeine hin neben seine Gebeine.
32Denn es wird geschehen, das Wort, das er durch Jehovahs Wort wider den Altar in Bethel und wider alle die Häuser der Opferhöhen in den Städten Samariens gerufen hat.
33Nach dieser Geschichte kehrte Jerobeam nicht von seinem bösen Wege zurück, sondern kehrte zurück und machte aus den Enden des Volkes Priester der Opferhöhen; nach seiner Lust füllte er ihre Hand, daß sie Priester der Opferhöhen wurden.
34Und diese Sache ward zur Sünde des Hauses Jerobeams, so daß es vom Boden weggeschafft und vernichtet wurde.

1Y HE aquí que un varón de Dios por palabra de Jehová vino de Judá á Beth-el; y estando Jeroboam al altar para quemar perfumes,
2El clamó contra el altar por palabra de Jehová, y dijo: Altar, altar, así ha dicho Jehová: He aquí que á la casa de David nacerá un hijo, llamado Josías, el cual sacrificará sobre ti á los sacerdotes de los altos que queman sobre ti perfumes; y sobre ti quemarán huesos de hombres.
3Y aquel mismo día dió una señal, diciendo: Esta es la señal de que Jehová ha hablado: he aquí que el altar se quebrará, y la ceniza que sobre él está se derramará.
4Y como el rey Jeroboam oyó la palabra del varón de Dios, que había clamado contra el altar de Beth-el, extendiendo su mano desde el altar, dijo: ¡Prendedle! Mas la mano que había extendido contra él, se le secó, que no la pudo tornar á sí.
5Y el altar se rompió, y derramóse la ceniza del altar, conforme á la señal que el varón de Dios había dado por palabra de Jehová.
6Entonces respondiendo el rey, dijo al varón de Dios: Te pido que ruegues á la faz de Jehová tu Dios, y ora por mí, que mi mano me sea restituída. Y el varón de Dios oró á la faz de Jehová, y la mano del rey se le recuperó, y tornóse como antes.
7Y el rey dijo al varón de Dios: Ven conmigo á casa, y comerás, y yo te daré un presente.
8Mas el varón de Dios dijo al rey: Si me dieses la mitad de tu casa, no iría contigo, ni comería pan ni bebería agua en este lugar;
9Porque así me está mandado por palabra de Jehová, diciendo: No comas pan, ni bebas agua, ni vuelvas por el camino que fueres.
10Fuése pues por otro camino, y no volvió por el camino por donde había venido á Beth-el.
11Moraba á la sazón en Beth-el un viejo profeta, al cual vino su hijo, y contóle todo lo que el varón de Dios había hecho aquel día en Beth-el: contáronle también á su padre las palabras que había hablado al rey.
12Y su padre les dijo: ¿Por qué camino fué? Y sus hijos le mostraron el camino por donde se había tornado el varón de Dios, que había venido de Judá.
13Y él dijo á sus hijos: Enalbardadme el asno. Y ellos le enalbardaron el asno, y subió en él.
14Y yendo tras el varón de Dios, hallóle que estaba sentado debajo de un alcornoque: y díjole: ¿Eres tú el varón de Dios que viniste de Judá? Y él dijo: Yo soy.
15Díjole entonces: Ven conmigo á casa, y come del pan.
16Mas él respondió: No podré volver contigo, ni iré contigo; ni tampoco comeré pan ni beberé agua contigo en este lugar;
17Porque por palabra de Dios me ha sido dicho: No comas pan ni bebas agua allí, ni vuelvas por el camino que fueres.
18Y el otro le dijo: Yo también soy profeta como tú, y un ángel me ha hablado por palabra de Jehová, diciendo: Vuélvele contigo á tu casa, para que coma pan y beba agua. Empero mintióle.
19Entonces volvió con él, y comió del pan en su casa, y bebió del agua.
20Y aconteció que, estando ellos á la mesa, fué palabra de Jehová al profeta que le había hecho volver;
21Y clamó al varón de Dios que había venido de Judá, diciendo: Así dijo Jehová: Por cuanto has sido rebelde al dicho de Jehová, y no guardaste el mandamiento que Jehová tu Dios te había prescrito,
22Sino que volviste, y comiste del pan y bebiste del agua en el lugar donde Jehová te había dicho no comieses pan ni bebieses agua, no entrará tu cuerpo en el sepulcro de tus padres.
23Y como hubo comido del pan y bebido, el profeta que le había hecho volver le enalbardó un asno;
24Y yéndose, topóle un león en el camino, y matóle; y su cuerpo estaba echado en el camino, y el asno estaba junto á él, y el león también estaba junto al cuerpo.
25Y he aquí unos que pasaban, y vieron el cuerpo que estaba echado en el camino, y el león que estaba junto al cuerpo: y vinieron, y dijéronlo en la ciudad donde el viejo profeta habitaba.
26Y oyéndolo el profeta que le había vuelto del camino, dijo: El varón de Dios es, que fué rebelde al dicho de Jehová: por tanto Jehová le ha entregado al león, que le ha quebrantado y muerto, conforme á la palabra de Jehová que él le dijo.
27Y habló á sus hijos, y díjoles: Enalbardadme un asno. Y ellos se lo enalbardaron.
28Y él fué, y halló su cuerpo tendido en el camino, y el asno y el león estaban junto al cuerpo: el león no había comido el cuerpo, ni dañado al asno.
29Y tomando el profeta el cuerpo del varón de Dios, púsolo sobre el asno, y llevóselo. Y el profeta viejo vino á la ciudad, para endecharle y enterrarle.
30Y puso su cuerpo en su sepulcro; y endecháronle, diciendo: ¡Ay, hermano mío!
31Y después que le hubieron enterrado, habló á sus hijos, diciendo: Cuando yo muriere, enterradme en el sepulcro en que está sepultado el varón de Dios; poned mis huesos junto á los suyos.
32Porque sin duda vendrá lo que él dijo á voces por palabra de Jehová contra el altar que está en Beth-el, y contra todas las casas de los altos que están en las ciudades de Samaria.
33Después de esto no se tornó Jeroboam de su mal camino: antes volvió á hacer sacerdotes de los altos de la clase del pueblo, y quien quería se consagraba, y era de los sacerdotes de los altos.
34Y esto fué causa de pecado á la casa de Jeroboam; por lo cual fué cortada y raída de sobre la haz de la tierra.

1And, behold, there came a man of God out of Judah by the word of the LORD unto Beth-el: and Jeroboam stood by the altar to burn incense.
2And he cried against the altar in the word of the LORD, and said, O altar, altar, thus saith the LORD; Behold, a child shall be born unto the house of David, Josiah by name; and upon thee shall he offer the priests of the high places that burn incense upon thee, and men’s bones shall be burnt upon thee.
3And he gave a sign the same day, saying, This is the sign which the LORD hath spoken; Behold, the altar shall be rent, and the ashes that are upon it shall be poured out.
4And it came to pass, when king Jeroboam heard the saying of the man of God, which had cried against the altar in Beth-el, that he put forth his hand from the altar, saying, Lay hold on him. And his hand, which he put forth against him, dried up, so that he could not pull it in again to him.
5The altar also was rent, and the ashes poured out from the altar, according to the sign which the man of God had given by the word of the LORD.
6And the king answered and said unto the man of God, Intreat now the face of the LORD thy God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored me again. And the man of God besought the LORD, and the king’s hand was restored him again, and became as it was before.
7And the king said unto the man of God, Come home with me, and refresh thyself, and I will give thee a reward.
8And the man of God said unto the king, If thou wilt give me half thine house, I will not go in with thee, neither will I eat bread nor drink water in this place:
9For so was it charged me by the word of the LORD, saying, Eat no bread, nor drink water, nor turn again by the same way that thou camest.
10So he went another way, and returned not by the way that he came to Beth-el.
11Now there dwelt an old prophet in Beth-el; and his sons came and told him all the works that the man of God had done that day in Beth-el: the words which he had spoken unto the king, them they told also to their father.
12And their father said unto them, What way went he? For his sons had seen what way the man of God went, which came from Judah.
13And he said unto his sons, Saddle me the ass. So they saddled him the ass: and he rode thereon,
14And went after the man of God, and found him sitting under an oak: and he said unto him, Art thou the man of God that camest from Judah? And he said, I am.
15Then he said unto him, Come home with me, and eat bread.
16And he said, I may not return with thee, nor go in with thee: neither will I eat bread nor drink water with thee in this place:
17For it was said to me by the word of the LORD, Thou shalt eat no bread nor drink water there, nor turn again to go by the way that thou camest.
18He said unto him, I am a prophet also as thou art; and an angel spake unto me by the word of the LORD, saying, Bring him back with thee into thine house, that he may eat bread and drink water. But he lied unto him.
19So he went back with him, and did eat bread in his house, and drank water.
20And it came to pass, as they sat at the table, that the word of the LORD came unto the prophet that brought him back:
21And he cried unto the man of God that came from Judah, saying, Thus saith the LORD, Forasmuch as thou hast disobeyed the mouth of the LORD, and hast not kept the commandment which the LORD thy God commanded thee,
22But camest back, and hast eaten bread and drunk water in the place, of the which the Lord did say to thee, Eat no bread, and drink no water; thy carcase shall not come unto the sepulchre of thy fathers.
23And it came to pass, after he had eaten bread, and after he had drunk, that he saddled for him the ass, to wit, for the prophet whom he had brought back.
24And when he was gone, a lion met him by the way, and slew him: and his carcase was cast in the way, and the ass stood by it, the lion also stood by the carcase.
25And, behold, men passed by, and saw the carcase cast in the way, and the lion standing by the carcase: and they came and told it in the city where the old prophet dwelt.
26And when the prophet that brought him back from the way heard thereof, he said, It is the man of God, who was disobedient unto the word of the LORD: therefore the LORD hath delivered him unto the lion, which hath torn him, and slain him, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake unto him.
27And he spake to his sons, saying, Saddle me the ass. And they saddled him.
28And he went and found his carcase cast in the way, and the ass and the lion standing by the carcase: the lion had not eaten the carcase, nor torn the ass.
29And the prophet took up the carcase of the man of God, and laid it upon the ass, and brought it back: and the old prophet came to the city, to mourn and to bury him.
30And he laid his carcase in his own grave; and they mourned over him, saying, Alas, my brother!
31And it came to pass, after he had buried him, that he spake to his sons, saying, When I am dead, then bury me in the sepulchre wherein the man of God is buried; lay my bones beside his bones:
32For the saying which he cried by the word of the LORD against the altar in Beth-el, and against all the houses of the high places which are in the cities of Samaria, shall surely come to pass.
33After this thing Jeroboam returned not from his evil way, but made again of the lowest of the people priests of the high places: whosoever would, he consecrated him, and he became one of the priests of the high places.
34And this thing became sin unto the house of Jeroboam, even to cut it off, and to destroy it from off the face of the earth.

1Behold, a man of God came out of Judah by the LORD’s word to Bethel; and Jeroboam was standing by the altar to burn incense.
2He cried against the altar by the LORD’s word, and said, “Altar! Altar! The LORD says: ‘Behold, a son will be born to David’s house, Josiah by name. On you he will sacrifice the priests of the high places who burn incense on you, and they will burn men’s bones on you.’”
3He gave a sign the same day, saying, “This is the sign which the LORD has spoken: Behold, the altar will be split apart, and the ashes that are on it will be poured out.”
4When the king heard the saying of the man of God, which he cried against the altar in Bethel, Jeroboam put out his hand from the altar, saying, “Seize him!” His hand, which he put out against him, dried up, so that he could not draw it back again to himself.
5The altar was also split apart, and the ashes poured out from the altar, according to the sign which the man of God had given by the LORD’s word.
6The king answered the man of God, “Now intercede for the favor of the LORD your God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored to me.” The man of God interceded with the LORD, and the king’s hand was restored to him, and became as it was before.
7The king said to the man of God, “Come home with me and refresh yourself, and I will give you a reward.”
8The man of God said to the king, “Even if you gave me half of your house, I would not go in with you, neither would I eat bread nor drink water in this place;
9for so was it commanded me by the LORD’s word, saying, ‘You shall eat no bread, drink no water, and don’t return by the way that you came.’”
10So he went another way, and didn’t return by the way that he came to Bethel.
11Now an old prophet lived in Bethel, and one of his sons came and told him all the works that the man of God had done that day in Bethel. They also told their father the words which he had spoken to the king.
12Their father said to them, “Which way did he go?” Now his sons had seen which way the man of God went, who came from Judah.
13He said to his sons, “Saddle the donkey for me.” So they saddled the donkey for him; and he rode on it.
14He went after the man of God, and found him sitting under an oak. He said to him, “Are you the man of God who came from Judah?” He said, “I am.”
15Then he said to him, “Come home with me and eat bread.”
16He said, “I may not return with you, nor go in with you. I will not eat bread or drink water with you in this place.
17For it was said to me by the LORD’s word, ‘You shall eat no bread or drink water there, and don’t turn again to go by the way that you came.’”
18He said to him, “I also am a prophet as you are; and an angel spoke to me by the LORD’s word, saying, ‘Bring him back with you into your house, that he may eat bread and drink water.’” He lied to him.
19So he went back with him, ate bread in his house, and drank water.
20As they sat at the table, the LORD’s word came to the prophet who brought him back;
21and he cried out to the man of God who came from Judah, saying, “The LORD says, ‘Because you have been disobedient to the LORD’s word, and have not kept the commandment which the LORD your God commanded you,
22but came back, and have eaten bread and drank water in the place of which he said to you, “Eat no bread, and drink no water,” your body will not come to the tomb of your fathers.’”
23After he had eaten bread and after he drank, he saddled the donkey for the prophet whom he had brought back.
24When he had gone, a lion met him by the way and killed him. His body was thrown on the path, and the donkey stood by it. The lion also stood by the body.
25Behold, men passed by and saw the body thrown on the path, and the lion standing by the body; and they came and told it in the city where the old prophet lived.
26When the prophet who brought him back from the way heard of it, he said, “It is the man of God who was disobedient to the LORD’s word. Therefore the LORD has delivered him to the lion, which has mauled him and slain him, according to the LORD’s word which he spoke to him.”
27He said to his sons, saying, “Saddle the donkey for me,” and they saddled it.
28He went and found his body thrown on the path, and the donkey and the lion standing by the body. The lion had not eaten the body nor mauled the donkey.
29The prophet took up the body of the man of God, and laid it on the donkey, and brought it back. He came to the city of the old prophet to mourn, and to bury him.
30He laid his body in his own grave; and they mourned over him, saying, “Alas, my brother!”
31After he had buried him, he spoke to his sons, saying, “When I am dead, bury me in the tomb in which the man of God is buried. Lay my bones beside his bones.
32For the saying which he cried by the LORD’s word against the altar in Bethel, and against all the houses of the high places which are in the cities of Samaria, will surely happen.”
33After this thing, Jeroboam didn’t turn from his evil way, but again made priests of the high places from among all the people. Whoever wanted to, he consecrated him, that there might be priests of the high places.
34This thing became sin to the house of Jeroboam, even to cut it off and to destroy it from off the surface of the earth.
