1Und Rehabeam begab sich nach Sichem, denn zu Sichem war ganz Israel erschienen, um ihn zum Könige zu machen.
2Sobald aber Jerobeam, der Sohn Nebats, vernahm - er war nämlich noch in Ägypten, wohin er vor dem Könige Salomo geflohen war -, daß Salomo gestorben sei, da kehrte Jerobeam aus Ägypten zurück.
3Und sie sandten hin und ließen ihn rufen. Da kamen Jerobeam und die ganze Gemeinde Israel, und sie redeten zu Rehabeam also:
4Dein Vater hat uns ein drückendes Joch auferlegt; so erleichtere du uns nun den harten Dienst und das schwere Joch, das uns dein Vater auferlegt hat, so wollen wir dir unterthan sein.
5Er erwiderte ihnen: Zieht euch noch für drei Tage zurück und kommt dann wieder zu mir! Und das Volk zog sich zurück.
6Da beriet sich der König Rehabeam mit den Alten, die seinem Vater Salomo bei dessen Lebzeiten gedient hatten, und sprach: Welchen Bescheid ratet ihr diesen Leuten zu geben?
7Sie erwiderten ihm also: Wirst du heute diesen Leuten zu Willen sein und dich ihnen fügen und auf sie hören und ihnen einen freundlichen Bescheid erteilen, so werden sie dir allezeit zu Willen sein.
8Er aber kehrte sich nicht an den Rat, den ihm die Alten gegeben hatten, sondern beriet sich mit den Jungen, die mit ihm aufgewachsen waren und nun in seinem Dienste standen,
9und fragte sie: Welchen Bescheid ratet ihr diesen Leuten zu geben, die also zu mir geredet haben: Mache das Joch leichter, das uns dein Vater auferlegt hat?
10Da antworteten ihm die Jungen, die mit ihm aufgewachsen waren, also: So muß du diesen Leuten antworten, die das zu dir gesagt haben: “Dein Vater hat uns ein schweres Joch auferlegt, du aber mache es uns leichter”, - so mußt du zu ihnen sprechen: Mein kleiner Finger ist dicker als meines Vaters Lenden!
11Wohlan denn, hat mein Vater euch ein schweres Joch aufgeladen, so will ich euer Joch noch drückender machen; hat euch mein Vater mit Peitschen gezüchtigt, so will ich euch mit Skorpionen züchtigen!
12Als nun Jerobeam und das ganze Volk am dritten Tage zu Rehabeam kam, nach dem Befehle des Königs: Kommt am dritten Tage wieder zu mir:
13da gab der König dem Volk eine harte Antwort und kehrte sich nicht an den Rat, den ihm die Alten gegeben hatten,
14sondern redete nach der Jungen Rat also zu ihnen: Hat euch mein Vater ein schweres Joch auferlegt, so will ich euer Joch noch drückender machen; hat euch mein Vater mit Peitschen gezüchtigt, so will ich euch mit Skorpionen züchtigen!
15Also gab der König dem Volke kein Gehör; denn so war es von Jahwe verhängt, damit er sein Wort in Kraft treten ließe, das Jahwe durch Ahia von Silo zu Jerobeam, dem Sohne Nebats, geredet hatte.
16Als aber ganz Israel erkannte, daß ihnen der König kein Gehör geschenkt habe, gab das Volk dem Könige diesen Bescheid: Was haben wir für Teil an David? Kein Erbe steht uns zu am Sohne Isais! Nach deiner Heimat begieb dich Israel! Nun sieh nach deinem Hause, David! Also begaben sich die Israeliten in ihre Heimat.
17Über die Israeliten aber, die in den Städten Judas wohnten, über diese war Rehabeam König.
18Als nun der König Rehabeam den Fronmeister Adoniram hinsandte, warf ihn ganz Israel mit Steinen zu Tode. Der König Rehabeam aber sprang noch rasch auf seinen Wagen und floh nach Jerusalem.
19Also fiel Israel vom Hause Davids ab bis auf den heutigen Tag.
20Als aber ganz Israel vernahm, daß Jerobeam zurückgekehrt sei, sandten sie hin und ließen ihn zur Volksversammlung rufen und machten ihn zum König über das ganze Israel. Niemand hielt es mit dem Hause Davids außer allein der Stamm Juda.
21Als aber Rehabeam nach Jerusalem gelangt war, versammelte er das ganze Haus Juda und den Stamm Benjamin, 180 000 auserlesene Krieger, zum Kampfe gegen das Haus Israel, um Rehabeam, dem Sohne Salomos, das Königtum wiederzugewinnen.
22Aber das Wort Gottes erging an Semaja, den Mann Gottes, also:
23Sprich zu Rehabeam, dem Sohne Salomos, dem Könige von Juda, und zum ganzen Hause Juda und Benjamin samt dem übrigen Volk also:
24So spricht Jahwe: Ihr sollt nicht hinziehen, um gegen eure Brüder, die Israeliten, zu kämpfen: jedermann kehre wieder heim, denn durch mich ist es also gefügt worden! Als sie das Wort Jahwes vernahmen, kehrten sie um und zogen ab, wie Jahwe befahl.
25Jerobeam aber befestigte Sichem auf dem Gebirge Ephraim und ließ sich darin nieder; sodann zog er von dort aus und befestigte Pnuel.
26Jerobeam aber dachte bei sich: das Königtum wird nun wohl an das Haus Davids zurückfallen.
27Wenn dieses Volk hinaufziehen wird, um im Tempel Jahwes zu Jerusalem Schlachtopfer zu bringen, so werden die Herzen dieses Volks ihrem Herrn Rehabeam, dem Könige von Juda, wieder zufallen, und sie werden mich umbringen und Rehabeam, dem Könige von Juda, wieder zufallen.
28Darum ging der König mit sich zu Rate, fertigte zwei goldene Kälber und sprach zum Volke: Ihr seid nun lange genug nach Jerusalem gepilgert! Da hast du deine Gottheit, Israel, die dich aus Ägypten hergeführt hat.
29Und er stellte das eine in Bethel auf, das andere aber that er nach Dan.
30Aber dies geriet zur Sünde, und das Volk zog vor dem einen her bis nach Dan.
31Auch errichtete er Höhentempel und bestellte zu Priestern alle beliebigen Leute, die nicht zu den Leviten gehörten.
32Und Jerobeam richtete ein Fest ein am fünfzehnten Tage des achten Monats, in der Weise des Festes, das in Juda stattfand, und er stieg hinauf zum Altar. Also that er zu Bethel, um den Kälbern, die er angefertigt hatte, Opfer zu schlachten, und ließ in Bethel die Höhenpriester, die er bestellt hatte, zum Dienst antreten.
33Und er stieg hinauf zu dem Altare, den er zu Bethel errichtet hatte, am fünfzehnten Tage des achten Monats, in dem Monate, den er sich selber erdacht hatte, um in ihm ein Fest für die Israeliten einzurichten. Als er aber gerade zum Altar hinaufstieg, um zu räuchern,

1Y FUÉ Roboam á Sichêm; porque todo Israel había venido á Sichêm para hacerlo rey.
2Y aconteció, que como lo oyó Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, que estaba en Egipto, porque había huído de delante del rey Salomón, y habitaba en Egipto;
3Enviaron y llamáronle. Vino pues Jeroboam y toda la congregación de Israel, y hablaron á Roboam, diciendo:
4Tu padre agravó nuestro yugo, mas ahora tú disminuye algo de la dura servidumbre de tu padre, y del yugo pesado que puso sobre nosotros, y te serviremos.
5Y él les dijo: Idos, y de aquí á tres días volved á mí. Y el pueblo se fué.
6Entonces el rey Roboam tomó consejo con los ancianos que habían estado delante de Salomón su padre cuando vivía, y dijo: ¿Cómo aconsejáis vosotros que responda á este pueblo?
7Y ellos le hablaron, diciendo: Si tú fueres hoy siervo de este pueblo, y lo sirvieres, y respondiéndole buenas palabras les hablares, ellos te servirán para siempre.
8Mas él, dejado el consejo de los viejos que ellos le habían dado, tomó consejo con los mancebos que se habían criado con él, y estaban delante de él.
9Y díjoles: ¿Cómo aconsejáis vosotros que respondamos á este pueblo, que me ha hablado, diciendo: Disminuye algo del yugo que tu padre puso sobre nosotros?
10Entonces los mancebos que se habían criado con él, le respondieron, diciendo: Así hablarás á este pueblo que te ha dicho estas palabras: Tu padre agravó nuestro yugo; mas tú disminúyenos algo: así les hablarás: El menor dedo de los míos es más grueso que los lomos de mi padre.
11Ahora pues, mi padre os cargó de pesado yugo, mas yo añadiré á vuestro yugo; mi padre os hirió con azotes, mas yo os heriré con escorpiones.
12Y al tercer día vino Jeroboam con todo el pueblo á Roboam; según el rey lo había mandado, diciendo: Volved á mí al tercer día.
13Y el rey respondió al pueblo duramente, dejado el consejo de los ancianos que ellos le habían dado;
14Y hablóles conforme al consejo de los mancebos, diciendo: Mi padre agravó vuestro yugo, pero yo añadiré á vuestro yugo; mi padre os hirió con azotes, mas yo os heriré con escorpiones.
15Y no oyó el rey al pueblo; porque era ordenación de Jehová, para confirmar su palabra, que Jehová había hablado por medio de Ahías Silonita á Jeroboam hijo de Nabat.
16Y cuando todo el pueblo vió que el rey no les había oído, respondióle estas palabras, diciendo: ¿Qué parte tenemos nosotros con David? No tenemos heredad en el hijo de Isaí. ¡Israel, á tus estancias! ¡Provee ahora en tu casa, David! Entonces Israel se fué á sus estancias.
17Mas reinó Roboam sobre los hijos de Israel que moraban en las ciudades de Judá.
18Y el rey Roboam envió á Adoram, que estaba sobre los tributos; pero apedreóle todo Israel, y murió. Entonces el rey Roboam se esforzó á subir en un carro, y huir á Jerusalem.
19Así se apartó Israel de la casa de David hasta hoy.
20Y aconteció, que oyendo todo Israel que Jeroboam había vuelto, enviaron y llamáronle á la congregación, é hiciéronle rey sobre todo Israel, sin quedar tribu alguna que siguiese la casa de David, sino sólo la tribu de Judá.
21Y como Roboam vino á Jerusalem, juntó toda la casa de Judá y la tribu de Benjamín, ciento y ochenta mil hombres escogidos de guerra, para hacer guerra á la casa de Israel, y reducir el reino á Roboam hijo de Salomón.
22Mas fué palabra de Jehová á Semeías varón de Dios, diciendo:
23Habla á Roboam hijo de Salomón, rey de Judá, y á toda la casa de Judá y de Benjamín, y á los demás del pueblo, diciendo:
24Así ha dicho Jehová: No vayáis, ni peleéis contra vuestros hermanos los hijos de Israel; volveos cada uno á su casa; porque este negocio yo lo he hecho. Y ellos oyeron la palabra de Dios, y volviéronse, y fuéronse, conforme á la palabra de Jehová.
25Y reedificó Jeroboam á Sichêm en el monte de Ephraim, y habitó en ella; y saliendo de allí, reedificó á Penuel.
26Y dijo Jeroboam en su corazón: Ahora se volverá el reino á la casa de David,
27Si este pueblo subiere á sacrificar á la casa de Jehová en Jerusalem: porque el corazón de este pueblo se convertirá á su señor Roboam rey de Judá, y me matarán á mí, y se tornarán á Roboam rey de Judá.
28Y habido consejo, hizo el rey dos becerros de oro, y dijo al pueblo: Harto habéis subido á Jerusalem: he aquí tus dioses, oh Israel, que te hicieron subir de la tierra de Egipto.
29Y puso el uno en Beth-el, y el otro puso en Dan.
30Y esto fué ocasión de pecado; porque el pueblo iba á adorar delante del uno, hasta Dan.
31Hizo también casa de altos, é hizo sacerdotes de la clase del pueblo, que no eran de los hijos de Leví.
32Entonces instituyó Jeroboam solemnidad en el mes octavo, á los quince del mes, conforme á la solemnidad que se celebraba en Judá; y sacrificó sobre altar. Así hizo en Beth-el, sacrificando á los becerros que había hecho. Ordenó también en Beth-el sacerdotes de los altos que él había fabricado.
33Sacrificó pues sobre el altar que él había hecho en Beth-el, á los quince del mes octavo, el mes que él había inventado de su corazón; é hizo fiesta á los hijos de Israel, y subió al altar para quemar perfumes.

1And Rehoboam went to Shechem: for all Israel were come to Shechem to make him king.
2And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who was yet in Egypt, heard of it, (for he was fled from the presence of king Solomon, and Jeroboam dwelt in Egypt;)
3That they sent and called him. And Jeroboam and all the congregation of Israel came, and spake unto Rehoboam, saying,
4Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make thou the grievous service of thy father, and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, lighter, and we will serve thee.
5And he said unto them, Depart yet for three days, then come again to me. And the people departed.
6And king Rehoboam consulted with the old men, that stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, and said, How do ye advise that I may answer this people?
7And they spake unto him, saying, If thou wilt be a servant unto this people this day, and wilt serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be thy servants for ever.
8But he forsook the counsel of the old men, which they had given him, and consulted with the young men that were grown up with him, and which stood before him:
9And he said unto them, What counsel give ye that we may answer this people, who have spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke which thy father did put upon us lighter?
10And the young men that were grown up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou speak unto this people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it lighter unto us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little finger shall be thicker than my father’s loins.
11And now whereas my father did lade you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke: my father hath chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.
12So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king had appointed, saying, Come to me again the third day.
13And the king answered the people roughly, and forsook the old men’s counsel that they gave him;
14And spake to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, and I will add to your yoke: my father also chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.
15Wherefore the king hearkened not unto the people; for the cause was from the LORD, that he might perform his saying, which the LORD spake by Ahijah the Shilonite unto Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
16So when all Israel saw that the king hearkened not unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse: to your tents, O Israel: now see to thine own house, David. So Israel departed unto their tents.
17But as for the children of Israel which dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.
18Then king Rehoboam sent Adoram, who was over the tribute; and all Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. Therefore king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.
19So Israel rebelled against the house of David unto this day.
20And it came to pass, when all Israel heard that Jeroboam was come again, that they sent and called him unto the congregation, and made him king over all Israel: there was none that followed the house of David, but the tribe of Judah only.
21And when Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he assembled all the house of Judah, with the tribe of Benjamin, an hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, which were warriors, to fight against the house of Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam the son of Solomon.
22But the word of God came unto Shemaiah the man of God, saying,
23Speak unto Rehoboam, the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and unto all the house of Judah and Benjamin, and to the remnant of the people, saying,
24Thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren the children of Israel: return every man to his house; for this thing is from me. They hearkened therefore to the word of the LORD, and returned to depart, according to the word of the LORD.
25Then Jeroboam built Shechem in mount Ephraim, and dwelt therein; and went out from thence, and built Penuel.
26And Jeroboam said in his heart, Now shall the kingdom return to the house of David:
27If this people go up to do sacrifice in the house of the LORD at Jerusalem, then shall the heart of this people turn again unto their lord, even unto Rehoboam king of Judah, and they shall kill me, and go again to Rehoboam king of Judah.
28Whereupon the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold, and said unto them, It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem: behold thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.
29And he set the one in Beth-el, and the other put he in Dan.
30And this thing became a sin: for the people went to worship before the one, even unto Dan.
31And he made an house of high places, and made priests of the lowest of the people, which were not of the sons of Levi.
32And Jeroboam ordained a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month, like unto the feast that is in Judah, and he offered upon the altar. So did he in Beth-el, sacrificing unto the calves that he had made: and he placed in Beth-el the priests of the high places which he had made.
33So he offered upon the altar which he had made in Beth-el the fifteenth day of the eighth month, even in the month which he had devised of his own heart; and ordained a feast unto the children of Israel: and he offered upon the altar, and burnt incense.

1Rehoboam went to Shechem, for all Israel had come to Shechem to make him king.
2When Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it (for he was yet in Egypt, where he had fled from the presence of King Solomon, and Jeroboam lived in Egypt;
3and they sent and called him), Jeroboam and all the assembly of Israel came, and spoke to Rehoboam, saying,
4“Your father made our yoke difficult. Now therefore make the hard service of your father, and his heavy yoke which he put on us, lighter, and we will serve you.”
5He said to them, “Depart for three days, then come back to me.” So the people departed.
6King Rehoboam took counsel with the old men who had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, “What counsel do you give me to answer these people?”
7They replied, “If you will be a servant to this people today, and will serve them, and answer them with good words, then they will be your servants forever.”
8But he abandoned the counsel of the old men which they had given him, and took counsel with the young men who had grown up with him, who stood before him.
9He said to them, “What counsel do you give, that we may answer these people who have spoken to me, saying, ‘Make the yoke that your father put on us lighter’?”
10The young men who had grown up with him said to him, “Tell these people who spoke to you, saying, ‘Your father made our yoke heavy, but make it lighter to us’—tell them, ‘My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist.
11Now my father burdened you with a heavy yoke, but I will add to your yoke. My father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.’”
12So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king asked, saying, “Come to me again the third day.”
13The king answered the people roughly, and abandoned the counsel of the old men which they had given him,
14and spoke to them according to the counsel of the young men, saying, “My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to your yoke. My father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.”
15So the king didn’t listen to the people; for it was a thing brought about from the LORD, that he might establish his word, which the LORD spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
16When all Israel saw that the king didn’t listen to them, the people answered the king, saying, “What portion have we in David? We don’t have an inheritance in the son of Jesse. To your tents, Israel! Now see to your own house, David.” So Israel departed to their tents.
17But as for the children of Israel who lived in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.
18Then King Rehoboam sent Adoram, who was over the men subject to forced labor; and all Israel stoned him to death with stones. King Rehoboam hurried to get himself up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.
19So Israel rebelled against David’s house to this day.
20When all Israel heard that Jeroboam had returned, they sent and called him to the congregation, and made him king over all Israel. There was no one who followed David’s house, except for the tribe of Judah only.
21When Rehoboam had come to Jerusalem, he assembled all the house of Judah and the tribe of Benjamin, a hundred and eighty thousand chosen men who were warriors, to fight against the house of Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam the son of Solomon.
22But the word of God came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,
23“Speak to Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all the house of Judah and Benjamin, and to the rest of the people, saying,
24‘The LORD says, “You shall not go up or fight against your brothers, the children of Israel. Everyone return to his house; for this thing is from me.”’” So they listened to the LORD’s word, and returned and went their way, according to the LORD’s word.
25Then Jeroboam built Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim, and lived in it; and he went out from there and built Penuel.
26Jeroboam said in his heart, “Now the kingdom will return to David’s house.
27If this people goes up to offer sacrifices in the LORD’s house at Jerusalem, then the heart of this people will turn again to their lord, even to Rehoboam king of Judah; and they will kill me, and return to Rehoboam king of Judah.”
28So the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold; and he said to them, “It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem. Look and behold your gods, Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt!”
29He set the one in Bethel, and the other he put in Dan.
30This thing became a sin, for the people went even as far as Dan to worship before the one there.
31He made houses of high places, and made priests from among all the people, who were not of the sons of Levi.
32Jeroboam ordained a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month, like the feast that is in Judah, and he went up to the altar. He did so in Bethel, sacrificing to the calves that he had made, and he placed in Bethel the priests of the high places that he had made.
33He went up to the altar which he had made in Bethel on the fifteenth day in the eighth month, even in the month which he had devised of his own heart; and he ordained a feast for the children of Israel, and went up to the altar to burn incense.
