Pero el que profetiza, habla a la gente para edificarlos, para motivarlos y consolarlos.

El que habla en una lengua se edifica a sí mismo, pero el que profetiza edifica a la iglesia.

He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.
He who speaks in another language edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the assembly.
Ahora, yo deseo que todos ustedes hablen en lenguas. Pero aún más que eso, deseo que ustedes puedieran profetizar. El que profetiza es mayor que el que habla en lenguas (a menos que alguien interprete para que la iglesia sea edificada).
Así que, quisiera que todos vosotros hablaseis lenguas, empero más que profetizaseis: porque mayor es el que profetiza que el que habla lenguas, si también no interpretare, para que la iglesia tome edificación.
I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.
Now I desire to have you all speak with other languages, but even more that you would prophesy. For he is greater who prophesies than he who speaks with other languages, unless he interprets, that the assembly may be built up.

Now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine?
But now, brothers, if I come to you speaking with other languages, what would I profit you unless I speak to you either by way of revelation, or of knowledge, or of prophesying, or of teaching?
Si instrumentos inertes producen sonidos, como la flauta o el arpa, y ellos no producen diferentes tonos, ¿cómo sabrá alguien qué melodía está tocando la flauta o el arpa?
Ciertamente las cosas inanimadas que hacen sonidos, como la flauta ó la vihuela, si no dieren distinción de voces, ¿cómo se sabrá lo que se tañe con la flauta, ó con la vihuela?
And even things without life giving sound, whether pipe or harp, except they give a distinction in the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped?
Even lifeless things that make a sound, whether pipe or harp, if they didn’t give a distinction in the sounds, how would it be known what is piped or harped?
Pues si la trompeta se toca con un sonido incierto, ¿cómo sabrá alguien cuándo es hora de prepararse para la batalla?
Y si la trompeta diere sonido incierto, ¿quién se apercibirá á la batalla?
For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?
For if the trumpet gave an uncertain sound, who would prepare himself for war?
Así es con ustedes. Si pronuncian palabras que no se entienden, ¿cómo podrá alguien comprender lo que han dicho ustedes? Estarán hablando, y nadie les entenderá.
Así también vosotros, si por la lengua no diereis palabra bien significante, ¿cómo se entenderá lo que se dice? porque hablaréis al aire.
So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak into the air.
So also you, unless you uttered by the tongue words easy to understand, how would it be known what is spoken? For you would be speaking into the air.
Indudablemente existen muchos idiomas diferentes en el mundo, y ninguno carece de significado.
Tantos géneros de voces, por ejemplo, hay en el mundo, y nada hay mudo;
There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification.
There are, it may be, so many kinds of languages in the world, and none of them is without meaning.
Pero si yo no conozco el significado de un idioma, seré como extranjero para el que habla, y el que habla será como extranjero para mí.
Mas si yo ignorare el valor de la voz, seré bárbaro al que habla, y el que habla será bárbaro para mí.
Therefore if I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be unto him that speaketh a barbarian, and he that speaketh shall be a barbarian unto me.
If then I don’t know the meaning of the language, I would be to him who speaks a foreigner, and he who speaks would be a foreigner to me.
Igualmente con ustedes. Ya que ustedes están deseosos por las manifestaciones del Espiritu, deseen fervientemente abundar en la edificación de la iglesia.
Así también vosotros; pues que anheláis espirituales dones, procurad ser excelentes para la edificación de la iglesia.
Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church.
So also you, since you are zealous for spiritual gifts, seek that you may abound to the building up of the assembly.
Así que el que habla en una lengua debe orar para que la pueda interpretar.
Por lo cual, el que habla lengua extraña, pida que la interprete.
Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret.
Therefore let him who speaks in another language pray that he may interpret.
Pues si yo oro en una lengua, mi espíritu ora, pero mi mente queda sin fruto.
Porque si yo orare en lengua desconocida, mi espíritu ora; mas mi entendimiento es sin fruto.
For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.
For if I pray in another language, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.
¿Qué haré? Oraré con mi espíritu, pero también oraré con mi mente. Cantaré con mi espíritu, y cantaré también con mi mente.
¿Qué pues? Oraré con el espíritu, mas oraré también con entendimiento; cantaré con el espíritu, mas cantaré también con entendimiento.
What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.

De otra manera, si alaban a Dios con el espíritu, ¿cómo podrá el de afuera decir "Amén" cuando ustedes están dando gracias si no sabe lo que ustedes están diciendo?
Porque si bendijeres con el espíritu, el que ocupa lugar de un mero particular, ¿cómo dirá amén á tu acción de gracias? pues no sabe lo que has dicho.
Else when thou shalt bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupieth the room of the unlearned say Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he understandeth not what thou sayest?
Otherwise, if you bless with the spirit, how will he who fills the place of the unlearned say the “Amen” at your giving of thanks, seeing he doesn’t know what you say?
Pues ustedes ciertamente hacen bien en dar gracias, pero la otra persona no es edificado.
Porque tú, á la verdad, bien haces gracias; mas el otro no es edificado.
For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified.
For you most certainly give thanks well, but the other person is not built up.
Le doy gracias a Dios que hablo en lenguas más que todos ustedes.

I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all:
I thank my God, I speak with other languages more than you all.
Pero en la iglesia yo prefiero hablar cinco palabras con mi entendimiento para poder instruir a otros, que diez mil palabras en una lengua.
Pero en la iglesia más quiero hablar cinco palabras con mi sentido, para que enseñe también á los otros, que diez mil palabras en lengua desconocida.
Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.
However, in the assembly I would rather speak five words with my understanding, that I might instruct others also, than ten thousand words in another language.
Hermanos, no sean niños en su manera de pensar. Por lo contrario, en lo que respecta al mal, sean como niños. Pero en su forma de pensar sean maduros.
Hermanos, no seáis niños en el sentido, sino sed niños en la malicia: empero perfectos en el sentido.
Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men.
Brothers, don’t be children in thoughts, yet in malice be babies, but in thoughts be mature.
En la ley está escrito: "POR HOMBRES DE LENGUA EXTRAÑA Y POR LABIOS DE EXTRAÑOS YO HABLARÉ A ESTE PUEBLO. AÚN ENTONCES ELLOS NO ME OIRÁN," dice el Señor.
En la ley está escrito: En otras lenguas y en otros labios hablaré á este pueblo; y ni aun así me oirán, dice el Señor.
In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord.
In the law it is written, “By men of strange languages and by the lips of strangers I will speak to this people. They won’t even listen to me that way, says the Lord.”
Por lo tanto, las lenguas son una señal, no a los creyentes, sino a los incrédulos. Mas la profecía es por señal, no para incrédulos, sino para creyentes.
Así que, las lenguas por señal son, no á los fieles, sino á los infieles: mas la profecía, no á los infieles, sino á los fieles.
Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.
Therefore other languages are for a sign, not to those who believe, but to the unbelieving; but prophesying is for a sign, not to the unbelieving, but to those who believe.
Si, por lo tanto, toda la iglesia se reuniera y todos hablaran en lenguas, y entraran los de afuera e incrédulos, ¿no dirían que ustedes están locos?
De manera que, si toda la iglesia se juntare en uno, y todos hablan lenguas, y entran indoctos ó infieles, ¿no dirán que estáis locos?
If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?
If therefore the whole assembly is assembled together and all speak with other languages, and unlearned or unbelieving people come in, won’t they say that you are crazy?
Pero si todos ustedes estuvieran profetizando y entrara un incrédulo o uno de afuera, sería convencido por todo lo que oye. Él sería juzgado por todo lo que se ha dicho.
Mas si todos profetizan, y entra algún infiel ó indocto, de todos es convencido, de todos es juzgado;
But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or one unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all:
But if all prophesy, and someone unbelieving or unlearned comes in, he is reproved by all, and he is judged by all.
Los secretos de su corazón serían revelados. Como resultado, él caería sobre su rostro y adoraría a Dios. Él declararía que Dios realmente está entre ustedes.
Lo oculto de su corazón se hace manifiesto: y así, postrándose sobre el rostro, adorará á Dios, declarando que verdaderamente Dios está en vosotros.
And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on his face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth.
And thus the secrets of his heart are revealed. So he will fall down on his face and worship God, declaring that God is among you indeed.
¿Qué sigue entonces, hermanos? Cuando ustedes se reúnan, cada uno tenga un salmo, una enseñanza, una revelación, una lengua o una interpretación. Hagan todo para que ustedes edifiquen la iglesia.
¿Qué hay pues, hermanos? Cuando os juntáis, cada uno de vosotros tiene salmo, tiene doctrina, tiene lengua, tiene revelación, tiene interpretación: hágase todo para edificación.
How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.
What is it then, brothers? When you come together, each one of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a revelation, has another language, or has an interpretation. Let all things be done to build each other up.
Si alguno habla en una lengua, que sean dos o máximo tres, y cada uno por turno. Y alguien debe interpretar lo dicho.
Si hablare alguno en lengua extraña, sea esto por dos, ó á lo más tres, y por turno; mas uno interprete.
If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret.
If any man speaks in another language, let there be two, or at the most three, and in turn; and let one interpret.
Pero si no hay quien interprete, que cada uno guarde silencio en la iglesia. Que cada uno hable a sí mismo y a Dios.
Y si no hubiere intérprete, calle en la iglesia, y hable á sí mismo y á Dios.
But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.
But if there is no interpreter, let him keep silent in the assembly, and let him speak to himself and to God.
Que dos o tres profetas hablen, y que los demás escuchen con discernimiento lo que se dice.
Asimismo, los profetas hablen dos ó tres, y los demás juzguen.
Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.
Let two or three of the prophets speak, and let the others discern.
Pero si una revelación es dada a alguien que está sentado en el servicio, que el que había estado hablando guarde silencio.
Y si á otro que estuviere sentado, fuere revelado, calle el primero.
If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace.
But if a revelation is made to another sitting by, let the first keep silent.
Pues cada uno de ustedes puede profetizar uno a la vez a fin de que cada cual aprenda y que todos sean alentados.
Porque podéis todos profetizar uno por uno, para que todos aprendan, y todos sean exhortados.
For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted.
For you all can prophesy one by one, that all may learn and all may be exhorted.
Pues los espíritus de los profetas están bajo el control de los profetas.
Y los espíritus de los que profetizaren, sujétense á los profetas;
And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.

Pues Dios no es un Dios de confusión, sino de paz. Esta es la regla en todas las iglesias de los creyentes.
Porque Dios no es Dios de disensión, sino de paz; como en todas las iglesias de los santos.
For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
for God is not a God of confusion but of peace, as in all the assemblies of the saints.
Las mujeres deben guardar silencio en las iglesias. Porque a ellas no les es permitido hablar. Por el contrario, ellas deben estar en sumisión, así como dice la Ley.
Vuestras mujeres callen en las congregaciones; porque no les es permitido hablar, sino que estén sujetas, como también la ley dice.
Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.
Let the wives be quiet in the assemblies, for it has not been permitted for them to be talking except in submission, as the law also says,
Si hay algo desean aprender, que le pregunten a sus esposos en su casa. Porque es indecoroso para una mujer hablar en la iglesia.
Y si quieren aprender alguna cosa, pregunten en casa á sus maridos; porque deshonesta cosa es hablar una mujer en la congregación.
And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.
if they desire to learn anything. “Let them ask their own husbands at home, for it is shameful for a wife to be talking in the assembly.”
¿La Palabra de Dios vino de ustedes? ¿O solo a ustedes ha alcanzado?
Qué, ¿ha salido de vosotros la palabra de Dios? ¿ó á vosotros solos ha llegado?
What? came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only?
What!? Was it from you that the word of God went out? Or did it come to you alone?
Si alguno piensa de sí mismo ser profeta o espiritual, debe reconocer que las cosas que yo les escribo a ustedes son un mandato del Señor.
Si alguno á su parecer, es profeta, ó espiritual, reconozca lo que os escribo, porque son mandamientos del Señor.
If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.
If any man thinks himself to be a prophet or spiritual, let him recognize the things which I write to you, that they are the commandment of the Lord.
Pero si alguno no reconoce esto, que tal persona no sea reconocida.
Mas el que ignora, ignore.
But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant.
But if anyone is ignorant, let him be ignorant.
Así entonces, hermanos, deseen fervientemente profetizar, y no prohíban a nadie hablar en lenguas.
Así que, hermanos, procurad profetizar; y no impidáis el hablar lenguas.
Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.
Therefore, brothers, desire earnestly to prophesy, and don’t forbid speaking with other languages.
Pero que todas las cosas sean hechas con propiedad y en orden.
