Supongan que yo hablo en lenguas de hombres y de ángeles. Pero si yo no tengo amor, he venido a ser un gong ruidoso o un cimbalo que retiñe.
SI yo hablase lenguas humanas y angélicas, y no tengo caridad, vengo á ser como metal que resuena, ó címbalo que retiñe.
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

Supongan que yo tengo el don de la profecía y entiendo todas las verdades escondidas y el conocimiento, y que yo tengo toda la fe como para remover montañas. Pero si yo no tengo amor, no soy nada.
Y si tuviese profecía, y entendiese todos los misterios y toda ciencia; y si tuviese toda la fe, de tal manera que traspasase los montes, y no tengo caridad, nada soy.
And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

Y supongan que yo doy todo lo que poseo para alimentar a los pobres, y que doy mi cuerpo para ser quemado. Pero si yo no tengo amor, yo nada gano.

El amor es paciente y amable. El amor no envidia ni se jacta. No es arrogante
La caridad es sufrida, es benigna; la caridad no tiene envidia, la caridad no hace sinrazón, no se ensancha;
Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
Love is patient and is kind. Love doesn’t envy. Love doesn’t brag, is not proud,
ni rudo. No busca servirse a sí mismo. No se enoja fácilmente, ni guarda cuentas de errores.
No es injuriosa, no busca lo suyo, no se irrita, no piensa el mal;
Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
doesn’t behave itself inappropriately, doesn’t seek its own way, is not provoked, takes no account of evil;
Él no se alegra en la injusticia. En su lugar, se goza en la verdad.

Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
doesn’t rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth;
El amor soporta todas las cosas, cree todas las cosas, tiene confianza acerca de todas las cosas, y sufre todas las cosas.
Todo lo sufre, todo lo cree, todo lo espera, todo lo soporta.
Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

El amor nunca acaba. Si hay profecías, ellas acabarán. Si hay lenguas, ellas cesarán. Si hay conocimiento, éste se acabará.
La caridad nunca deja de ser: mas las profecías se han de acabar, y cesarán las lenguas, y la ciencia ha de ser quitada;
Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will be done away with. Where there are various languages, they will cease. Where there is knowledge, it will be done away with.
Porque conocemos en parte y profetizamos en parte.
Porque en parte conocemos, y en parte profetizamos;
For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
For we know in part and we prophesy in part;
Pero cuando venga lo perfecto, lo que está incompleto pasará.
Mas cuando venga lo que es perfecto, entonces lo que es en parte será quitado.
But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
but when that which is complete has come, then that which is partial will be done away with.
Cuando yo era un niño, yo hablaba como un niño, yo pensaba como un niño, yo razonaba como un niño. Cuando me convertí en un adulto, yo puse a un lado las cosas infantiles.

When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

Porque ahora nosotros vemos indirectamente en un espejo, pero después cara a cara. Ahora conozco en parte, pero después conoceré completamente así como yo he sido conocido completamente.
Ahora vemos por espejo, en obscuridad; mas entonces veremos cara á cara: ahora conozco en parte; mas entonces conoceré como soy conocido.
For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

Pero ahora estas tres cosas permanecen: fe, confianza futura, y amor. Pero el mayor de éstos es el amor.
Y ahora permanecen la fe, la esperanza, y la caridad, estas tres: empero la mayor de ellas es la caridad.
And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.
But now faith, hope, and love remain—these three. The greatest of these is love.
