1O filho mais velho de Israel era Rúben, mas já que ele havia desonrado o leito do seu pai, seus direitos de filho mais velho foram dados aos filhos de José, filho de Israel, seu irmão por parte de pai. Por isso, nos registros genealógicos não aparece o nome de Rúben como o filho mais velho.
