Darnach begab es sich, dass Nahas, der König der Ammoniter, starb und sein Sohn Hanun König wurde an seiner Statt.

DESPUÉS de estas cosas aconteció que murió Naas rey de los hijos de Ammón, y reinó en su lugar su hijo.

Now it came to pass after this, that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon died, and his son reigned in his stead.

Da dachte David: Ich will mich freundlich zeigen gegen Hanun, den Sohn des Nahas, denn sein Vater hat sich gegen mich freundlich gezeigt. So sandte denn David Boten hin, ihm sein Beileid auszusprechen wegen seines Vaters. Als nun die Leute Davids ins Land der Ammoniter zu Hanun kamen, ihm das Beileid auszusprechen,

Y dijo David: Haré misericordia con Hanán hijo de Naas, porque también su padre hizo conmigo misericordia. Así David envió embajadores que lo consolasen de la muerte de su padre. Mas venidos los siervos de David en la tierra de los hijos de Ammón á Hanán, para consolarle,

And David said, I will shew kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, because his father shewed kindness to me. And David sent messengers to comfort him concerning his father. So the servants of David came into the land of the children of Ammon to Hanun, to comfort him.

David said, “I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash, because his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent messengers to comfort him concerning his father. David’s servants came into the land of the children of Ammon to Hanun to comfort him.

sprachen die Fürsten der Ammoniter zu Hanun: Meinst du etwa, David wolle deinen Vater ehren, indem er Leute zu dir sendet, dir sein Beileid auszusprechen? Sind nicht vielmehr seine Leute darum zu dir gekommen, um das Land zu erforschen und auszukundschaften und zu verheeren?

Los príncipes de los hijos de Ammón dijeron á Hanán: ¿A tu parecer honra David á tu padre, que te ha enviado consoladores? ¿no vienen antes sus siervos á ti para escudriñar, é inquirir, y reconocer la tierra?

But the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun, Thinkest thou that David doth honour thy father, that he hath sent comforters unto thee? are not his servants come unto thee for to search, and to overthrow, and to spy out the land?

But the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun, “Do you think that David honors your father, in that he has sent comforters to you? Haven’t his servants come to you to search, to overthrow, and to spy out the land?”

Da liess Hanun die Leute Davids greifen und liess sie scheren und ihnen die Kleider zur Hälfte, bis ans Gesäss, wegschneiden und schickte sie dann fort.

Entonces Hanán tomó los siervos de David, y rapólos, y cortóles los vestidos por medio, hasta las nalgas, y despachólos.

Als man nun hinging und David wegen der Männer Meldung machte, sandte er ihnen entgegen - denn die Männer waren schwer beschimpft -, und der König liess ihnen sagen: Bleibet in Jericho, bis euch der Bart gewachsen ist; dann kommet wieder heim.

Then there went certain, and told David how the men were served. And he sent to meet them: for the men were greatly ashamed. And the king said, Tarry at Jericho until your beards be grown, and then return.

Then some people went and told David how the men were treated. He sent to meet them; for the men were greatly humiliated. The king said, “Stay at Jericho until your beards have grown, and then return.”

Als aber die Ammoniter sahen, dass sie sich bei David verhasst gemacht hatten, sandten Hanun und die Ammoniter tausend Talente Silber, um sich Streitwagen und Reiter anzuwerben von den Syrern in Mesopotamien und von den Syrern von Maacha und von Zoba.

Y viendo los hijos de Ammón que se habían hecho odiosos á David, Hanán y los hijos de Ammón enviaron mil talentos de plata, para tomar á sueldo carros y gente de á caballo de Siria de los ríos, y de la Siria de Maachâ, y de Soba.

And when the children of Ammon saw that they had made themselves odious to David, Hanun and the children of Ammon sent a thousand talents of silver to hire them chariots and horsemen out of Mesopotamia, and out of Syria-maachah, and out of Zobah.

Sie nahmen 32 000 Streitwagen in ihren Dienst, dazu den König von Maacha mit seiner Mannschaft; die kamen und lagerten sich vor Medeba. Die Ammoniter aber sammelten sich aus ihren Städten und rückten an zum Kampfe.

Y tomaron á sueldo treinta y dos mil carros, y al rey de Maachâ y á su pueblo, los cuales vinieron y asentaron su campo delante de Medeba. Y juntáronse también los hijos de Ammón de sus ciudades, y vinieron á la guerra.

So they hired thirty and two thousand chariots, and the king of Maachah and his people; who came and pitched before Medeba. And the children of Ammon gathered themselves together from their cities, and came to battle.

Als David davon hörte, sandte er Joab mit dem ganzen Heere der Helden.

Die Ammoniter aber rückten aus und stellten sich in Schlachtordnung am Eingang der Stadt, während die Könige, die gekommen waren, gesondert im freien Felde standen.

Als nun Joab sah, dass der Angriff von vorn und hinten gegen ihn gerichtet war, traf er eine Auswahl unter allen Auserlesenen in Israel und stellte sich den Syrern entgegen.

Das übrige Volk aber übergab er seinem Bruder Abisai, und sie stellten sich den Ammonitern entgegen.

Und er sprach: Wenn die Syrer stärker sind als ich, so komm mir zu Hilfe; wenn aber die Ammoniter stärker sind als du, so will ich dir zu Hilfe kommen.

Y dijo: Si los Siros fueren más fuertes que yo, tú me salvarás; y si los Ammonitas fueren más fuertes que tú, yo te salvaré.

And he said, If the Syrians be too strong for me, then thou shalt help me: but if the children of Ammon be too strong for thee, then I will help thee.

Sei tapfer und lass uns tapfer eintreten für unser Volk und für die Städte unsres Gottes. Der Herr aber tue, was ihm wohlgefällt!

Esfuérzate, y esforcémonos por nuestro pueblo, y por las ciudades de nuestro Dios; y haga Jehová lo que bien le pareciere.

Be of good courage, and let us behave ourselves valiantly for our people, and for the cities of our God: and let the LORD do that which is good in his sight.

So rückte denn Joab mit dem Volk, das bei ihm war, zum Kampfe wider die Syrer vor, und sie flohen vor ihm.

Acercóse luego Joab y el pueblo que tenía consigo, para pelear contra los Siros; mas ellos huyeron delante de él.

So Joab and the people that were with him drew nigh before the Syrians unto the battle; and they fled before him.

Sowie die Ammoniter die Syrer vor Joab fliehen sahen, flohen auch sie vor seinem Bruder Abisai und zogen sich in die Stadt zurück. Joab aber kehrte heim nach Jerusalem.

Als nun die Syrer sahen, dass sie von Israel geschlagen worden waren, sandten sie Boten hin und liessen die Syrer jenseits des Euphrat ausrücken unter der Führung Sophachs, des Feldhauptmanns Hadar-Esers.

Y viendo los Siros que habían caído delante de Israel, enviaron embajadores, y trajeron á los Siros que estaban de la otra parte del río, cuyo capitán era Sophach, general del ejército de Adarezer.

And when the Syrians saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they sent messengers, and drew forth the Syrians that were beyond the river: and Shophach the captain of the host of Hadarezer went before them.

Als dies David gemeldet wurde, sammelte er ganz Israel, zog über den Jordan und kam nach Helam; und David stellte sich den Syrern entgegen, und sie kämpften mit ihm.

Luego que fué dado aviso á David, juntó á todo Israel, y pasando el Jordán vino á ellos, y ordenó contra ellos su ejército. Y como David hubo ordenado su tropa contra ellos, pelearon con él los Siros.

And it was told David; and he gathered all Israel, and passed over Jordan, and came upon them, and set the battle in array against them. So when David had put the battle in array against the Syrians, they fought with him.

Aber die Syrer flohen vor Israel. Und David tötete von den Syrern die Bemannung von siebentausend Streitwagen, sowie 40 000 Mann Fussvolk; auch den Feldhauptmann Sophach tötete er.

Mas el Siro huyó delante de Israel; y mató David de los Siros siete mil hombres de los carros, y cuarenta mil hombres de á pie: asimismo mató á Sophach, general del ejército.

But the Syrians fled before Israel; and David slew of the Syrians seven thousand men which fought in chariots, and forty thousand footmen, and killed Shophach the captain of the host.

Als sich nun die Leute Hadar-Esers von den Israeliten geschlagen sahen, machten sie Frieden mit David und unterwarfen sich ihm. Und die Syrer hatten keine Lust mehr, den Ammonitern noch fernerhin zu helfen.

Y viendo los Siros de Adarezer que habían caído delante de Israel, concertaron paz con David, y fueron sus siervos; y nunca más quiso el Siro ayudar á los hijos de Ammón.

And when the servants of Hadarezer saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they made peace with David, and became his servants: neither would the Syrians help the children of Ammon any more.

When the servants of Hadadezer saw that they were defeated by Israel, they made peace with David and served him. The Syrians would not help the children of Ammon any more.
