Ahora cuando los filisteos escucharon que David había sido ungido como rey sobre todo Israel, todos ellos fueron en busca de él. Pero David escuchó sobre ello y fue en contra de ellos.

And David enquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? and wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the LORD said unto him, Go up; for I will deliver them into thine hand.

Así que ellos subieron a Baal Perazim y allí él los venció. Él comentó: "Por mi mano el SEÑOR ha penetrado a mis enemigos como un torrente de agua." Así que el nombre de ese sitio se convirtió en Baal Perazim.
Subieron pues á Baal-perasim, y allí los hirió David. Dijo luego David: Dios rompió mis enemigos por mi mano, como se rompen las aguas. Por esto llamaron el nombre de aquel lugar Baal-perasim.
So they came up to Baal-perazim; and David smote them there. Then David said, God hath broken in upon mine enemies by mine hand like the breaking forth of waters: therefore they called the name of that place Baal-perazim.

Los filisteos abandonaron a sus dioses allí y David dio una orden que debían de ser quemados.

Cuando escuches el sonido de marcha en el viento que sopla a través de las copas de árboles de bálsamo, luego ataca con fuerza. Haz esto porque Dios habrá salido por delante de ustedes para atacar al ejército de los filisteos."
Y así que oyeres venir un estruendo por las copas de los morales, sal luego á la batalla: porque Dios saldrá delante de ti, y herirá el campo de los Filisteos.
And it shall be, when thou shalt hear a sound of going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt go out to battle: for God is gone forth before thee to smite the host of the Philistines.

Así que David hizo como Dios ordenó. Él venció el ejército de los filisteos desde Gabaon todo el camino hasta Gezer.
