Damals sprach David: Jeder, der zuerst die Jebusiter schlägt, soll Hauptmann und Anführer sein! Da stieg zuerst Joab, der sohn Zerujas, hinauf und ward Hauptmann.

Y David había dicho: El que primero hiriere al Jebuseo, será cabeza y jefe. Entonces Joab hijo de Sarvia subió el primero, y fué hecho jefe.

And David said, Whosoever smiteth the Jebusites first shall be chief and captain. So Joab the son of Zeruiah went first up, and was chief.

David had said, “Whoever strikes the Jebusites first shall be chief and captain.” Joab the son of Zeruiah went up first, and was made chief.
